Cool spot with creative matcha deserts. I had the matcha parfait and while I wouldn't get again as was too much, I enjoyed it a lot, especially the red bean. Would come back to explore menu.
Tried the Kyo Matcha towel cake and it was really good. Not too sweet which is honestly an elite Asian compliment. I do not usually go for matcha desserts but this one was light, soft, and not overpowering at all. It actually made me want to try more matcha stuff.
Loved this place! Im not even a matcha fan but i was wowed. The floats are good value imo-- 8.50 for basically two desserts, first the soft serve float and then the latte. The hojicha soft serve was incredible and I loved the latte too. Do note that they use thin petal shaped pieces of ice throughout the latte to support the ice cream. So the latte is going to be 80% ice. However, the liquid in the latte is extremely concentrated to make up for this, so I recommend breaking up the ice and dissolving it a bit to really enjoy the latte as much as possible. The place was busy and some tabletops/chairs were sticky. There was some outdoor seating but it was a bit uncomfortable in the cold. It also took a while to get our drinks. The line is long but a kiosk is available to skip the line!
The ambiance was quite nice with cool decor and service moved pretty fast. Unfortunately, the giant matcha roll dessert was underwhelming and had a very foreign taste to it even though I've had matcha in Japan before. Probably just not the right taste profile for me unfortunately.
Such good matcha and creative spins. Hojicha also good, strawberry isn't whole strawberry kinda of grounded up. Had rotating favor of the month.
Has ice cream, drinks and pastry items, all with match or Asian flavors~ very cute and easy to spot, and busy. Location is small and first come, first serve seating/tables. Our drinks were prepared quickly! I ordered the match red bean latte with oat milk, bobba topping and iced. My partner got the matcha latte with whole milk. My drink was sweet but not too much, with the sweetness coming from the red bean pieces and bobba. The match is delicious~ perfect. My partners drink is very good. No bad comments about our treat! Tables could be cleaner and properly sipped down more often, but a good spot for a solid matcha drink~ my rating is high for the quality and taste of the matcha, which is a huge part of their brand.
We ordered two ice cream bowls with shots of espresso and Matcha on top. Each of these was a twist and not necessarily what they had on the menu, which I guess led to the staff becoming very mixed up, and needing to remake both of our ice creams. Surface was also very slow, and there is not much seating on the inside, and there is a line out the door. Even outside, seating is hard to come by. The ice cream itself is very, very nice, especially the red bean at the bottom as an add-on. I would say the ice cream is not terribly sweet, but works very very well with the extra sweet red bean. I would consider getting takeout from here, if I didn't think it would melt quickly.
The most amazing matcha! You can tell the matcha here is quality compared to other places. It's so good it's hard to get matcha anywhere else. I got the original matcha latte and jasmine matcha latte. They also have matcha icecream and it was thickly and creamy. Service is quick and friendly. They also have a self kiosk to order on your own. They're always busy but knock out the line quickly. The shop is clean and bright with lots of seating.
Great matcha. Love the ice cream with the Oreo and mochi. Good amount of seating. The crepe was excellent and soft. Would come by any time I'm craving matcha.
the hojicha float and banana matcha were good and the location was conveniently next to other food spots. a great place to stop by after a walk around boston!
Rating: 4.3 Came to try due to recommendation by a friend. It's a matcha focused tea shop that also offer soft serve, bubble tea, mille crepe cake, parfait and more. I'm assuming that the name kyo comes from kyoto which is known for matcha. It was busy inside but service was quick. Inside is pretty small and only has few seatings. Outside seatings are also available. We ordered matcha latte and matcha red bean latte with boba. The tea was ready within minutes and they were pretty good. I didn't get the matcha soft serve but i assume it's good as well. Overall a solid spot especially for matcha lovers. Would come back when i'm in the area and maybe try their soft serve or combine it with tea.
The Hojicha latte with Matcha ice cream float was exactly what I was craving - earthy, slightly smoky, and perfectly balanced in sweetness (as any good Asian dessert should be). The flavors were spot on, and the presentation was beautiful. My only complaint was the amount of ice. For nearly $10, it felt like I got more ice cubes than tea, which was pretty disappointing. As much as I loved it, I'm not sure the portion justifies the price.
Amazing drinks and desserts, and the service was wonderful. I would highly recommend stopping in.

Kyo Matcha serves up tasty treats and desserts! Although matcha is in its name, don't be fooled; they also have some non-matcha items (which are also delicious). Kyo Matcha is a cute little spot across from the Saint Mary's Street green line stop, making it super accessible. There's also lots of street parking nearby. There's always a long line but you get your order quite quickly after placing it. My favorite items are the matcha latte and the matcha soft serve! You can taste the high quality of the matcha in every sip of the latte and every bite of the ice cream. I personally would get the matcha latte with less sweetness (maybe 50 or 70%) but that's just my preference! I also enjoy their brown sugar boba milk cap cake because of how soft the boba is which pairs with the airy/fluffiness of the cake! I like how there's outdoor seating as well since there is minimal indoor seating due to how busy they get. It can get quite crowded inside due to how many people there are. Kyo Matcha is a wonderful addition to the area; I wish it had been around when I lived nearby! Definitely would recommend giving it a try! read more
Kyo Matcha is such a cute cafe spot with a variety of cute cakes, drinks, and even ice cream. The matcha soft serve was very delicious and had the perfect texture. The strawberry cake was light and had the perfect amount of sweetness. The towel cakes are basically crepe cakes wrapped to resemble a towel. I got to try the ube towel cake and it had a great ube flavor and the cream was so light and airy. read more
Thank goodness the line has died down since it has opened - every time I passed by for a solid month, there was a line out the door. Once, I even stood in it for 45 minutes before realizing that they were out of milk ice cream, but now the line is a lot more manageable. There's a lot of really pretty desserts and drinks on their menu, but I opted for the milk ice cream, which was something I've generally been wanting to try for a while. Milk ice cream ($7.00) - First, the menu says that the milk ice cream is $6.50 but when I got to the front of the line I put my order in on the machine and it said that it was $7.00, so that was a bit strange. Other than that, it was very easy to use the machine and it told me a number that I waited to be called out to collect my food. The ice cream itself was very creamy, and didn't exactly taste like vanilla, which I guess is why it's called "milk" flavor. That being said, it was a really nice and sweet but not to sweet creamy flavor, and I enjoyed it a lot. The price being different was a bit strange, and I'm not sure I can justify $7 for a single cone, but I'm glad I tried it. Overall, 4/5 - it was a nice treat and I'm happy I finally tried milk ice cream, but with the current price and even with a 10 minute wait or so, it doesn't feel like I'll be back for the ice cream. read more
We got the parfait and matcha latte. The parfait was really nice, had a lot of layers of different things, and was not overly sweet. The matcha latte was yummy as well, but the matcha was not mixed in too well despite shaking the drink. The space is very clean and bright. It can get a bit crowded and be hard to find seating on weekend evenings, but during the day, I think this would be the perfect spot to plop down, study, read a book, or hang out! read more
Finally got to experience Kyo Matcha and it did not disappoint! Since this place opened, there is always a line out the door...literally all day! People have been excited for this place and for good reason! They obviously specialize in all things matcha, from matcha lattes to soft serve + floats to bubble tea and slushes to cakes/pastries. Definitely a matcha-loving foodie's dream! I tried the matcha latte with soymilk, which was nice to have a dairy-free option compared to some of the otherwise dairy-based desserts. There is an option to add in toppings like boba, red bean, or mochi, as well and even matcha floats (latte + soft serve which seem to be a very popular item). I also shared the matcha layer crepe cake and it was delicious! A great balance of sweetness but letting the matcha flavors shine through. Would highly recommend!! What is nice about all of the drinks is that you can alter the sweetness level so if you want a classic sweet bubble tea, there is something for you, but if you are also craving a matcha latte with little/no sweetness added, you can have that too! Of course they have quite an extensive menu beyond matcha. Latte-wise they have a lot of different combos of matcha lattes + floats, hojicha latte + floats, and black sesame lattes. They also have a lot of other teas and tea slushes (kind of like a frappe), including non-caffeinated options. The most popular items that I saw tended to be different combinations of the latte floats, ice creams, and cakes (the crepe layer cakes and the milk cap cakes). I don't think there is much you can go wrong with though!! The inside is small and with the lines definitely can get loud inside. There are a few small tables and some window seats (best for parties of 1-2 people), but larger groups could try to snag a table outside or just plan to take their drinks or orders to go and hang out on Beacon street. There is definitely more limited seating given the popularity of the cafe, so judge accordingly and be on the look out for a spot if you plan on dining in. The line moves pretty quickly. We were waiting in a 15-20 person line and only had to wait ~5 min before ordering and about 5-10 min for our order, which is pretty impressive in my opinion. Quality seems to be top-notch and they are well staffed, so are handling the bustling business pretty great. Would recommend a visit in, especially as the weather is nice this summer! The outside area right around the cafe is actually covered so even if it rains (as is typical in the New England summers), you can enjoy a sweet treat here! read more

The interior is really cute, which made the experience even more enjoyable, and a great place to hang out with friends. We ordered off a tablet and the ice cream came relatively quickly. I got the hojicha soft serve ($7), and it was super creamy with a smooth roasted tea flavor. It wasn't overly sweet, which I liked--it had that toasty, earthy note that makes hojicha so good. I'm looking forward to coming back to try more of their soft serve flavors--especially to compare the hojicha with some of their other options. read more

So I frequent this place, and usually their icecream is great, phenomenal even. But today I got these, probably 3/4 height and 3/4 width which probably translates to 60-70% of usual icecream by weight. The inconsistency is too big for a place know for its icecream. Sorry for leaving a negative comment only when I had a bad experience but this was too big of a delta read more

I was lured in by the TikTok hype and I can't help but feel let down by my visit to Kyo Matcha. After waiting about 40-minute in line, I opted for the Kyoto Milk Tea, Matcha Brulée Cream, and Milk Cap Cake (because all the other cakes were sold out). The teas were mid, nothing you can't find at another cafe when it comes to flavor. The real disappointment was the Milk Cap Cake, which was overwhelming salty. Ultimately, the long wait in the cold was not justified by the average-at-best offerings. The only redeeming aspect was the food presentation. Everything looked really pretty. read more

First time and I'm already in love with the place! It's so cute inside and the nice aesthetic designs are on point. I would say it was very busy around the time we went but the lines were moving so it didn't take us a long time to order. I got the ube latte, matcha soft serve and ube hojicha soft serve. The ube flavor was so good, you can actually taste the flavor. Matcha was good too! You can taste the matcha aftertaste after every bite! read more
The shop has lots of seating indoors and outdoors. Even now there is a bit of a wait for orders. It took 7 mins for one icecream cone. The matcha soft serve is $7 for a pretty standard cone. Sweet but a light green and doesn't have a strong matcha flavor. The cone is just a regular sugar cone read more
Sooooo ... I love this place!!! It just opened up and I've only been here once, BUT ... I AM OBSESSED!!! This place is small but sooooo cute!!! I love the designs and how it's decorated. It has both inside and outside seating. I feel like they could add more outside seating ... as there's ample space for it. The bathrooms are also super nice, very clean, and even luxurious. However, I do wish they had a baby changing device ... as this place is located in a very family friendly area. Regarding the food and drinks ... ah-mazinggggg!!! Very matcha and not too sweet at all. I am so impressed with their menu as it's pretty large ... without being weird and overwhelming. The prices are also really good for the product ... as the matcha seems pretty high quality. I can't wait to go back but am so nervous for my wallet ... as I want this like every week!!! It's going to be tempting cuz this location is so convenient for me, and it's just a short walk to Coolidge Corner or to Kenmore Square. This place just opened up, so there was a little line when I went ... which was noonish time on a weekday. I could see the line being a lot longer in the evenings and on weekends. The service was superb. Although it was super busy, the staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and efficient. They kindly answered all questions and were extremely patient with customers. I had my baby with me, and they were sweet enough to tell me that they were about to run a fire alarm test. I really appreciated their caring attitude. As a side not and so not a reason to go to one place over another, but everyone is so beautiful here ... inside and out. read more
The line was wrapped around the block, but it was worth the 45 min wait. Definitely try their soft serve and matcha cap cake. The soft serve was creamy and packed with deep matcha flavor. The cap cake was a matcha chiffon cake topped with cheese foam + red bean. When you combine some red bean with the fluffiness of the matcha cake, it's a perfect bite. Something they can improve upon is their matcha latte needs a deeper matcha flavor. The matcha towel cake looked pretty, but it's just a crepe filled with a ton of matcha whipped cream and red bean. The red beans were oddly hard. If you're a fan of whipped cream, then you'd like the roll cake. But personally I think the cap cake was way better. Another thing to note is their service is amazing. They limit each customer to 2 cakes & the cashier told us they sold out of all cakes besides the cap cake. We were a bit bummed because the towel cake was the main reason we came, but after our order came out, a lady from the back brought more out. We thought they wouldn't let us order it since we already left the line, but the lady (who I assumed was the manager) was kind enough to let us purchase one. She even personally rang us up. Even though this place is so busy (for good reason) it's nice that they still care about the little details. read more

I love the ice cream -- you can't go wrong with any of the ice cream flavors. Black sesame is a seasonal flavor, but I usually go got matcha. Lines can get long after dinner time. read more
I cannot count the amount of times we've driven past Kyo Matcha & all of the new businesses that have opened on this block. All new & super hyped on social media. Finally we were able to stop in to see what the hype is all about around Kyo Matcha's offerings. They are a Japanese cafe chain that specializes in matcha desserts and drinks. Today, we tried their ice cream: matcha mixed with milk favored ice cream in a cup with a cone & hojicha mixed with their flavor of the month, which was ube! Also in a cup with a cone. At $7/each, their price is very similar to Matcha Cafe Maiko's soft serve price! Thoughts: Flavors of the ice cream were okay. Did not "wow" me & I found that my ube/hojicha combo was a bit too sweet for my liking. The hojicha also tasted a lot like burnt chocolate. Unfortunately, I could not get myself to finish it. I would come back again to try their other menu items though! Their drinks look good. Matcha Cafe Maiko is still my favorite when it comes to matcha & ube... they're unbeatable (for me), for now. Parking: can be found on Beacon St. Lots of diagonal meter parking spots located across the street, by the train. read more
Hands down a big fan of this place! I've been here at least 4 times so far. The line was extremely long near the beginning of their opening where it went around the block, but has since died down to just a straight line out the door. Not sure if the hype is slightly over or if the spring semester is over. LOVE: * I've ordered the Matcha, Hojicha, and Black Sesame (flavor of the June month) soft serves, and I would get them again! They all had a very strong flavor, so be aware of the caffeine for those who get the tea flavors in the evening! * The matcha crepe cake had evenly layered cream and crepe. Would order again. OKAY: * I've also gotten the Ube (flavor of the May month) soft serve and thought it tasted more like the base/milk flavor with a slight hint of ube. I've had ones with more ube taste, so I wouldn't get it again here. * I've also had the long-awaited Matcha Towel Cake, which I waited a few visits to finally order when it was not out of stock! The cake is definitely very beautiful..and I definitely felt bad that I had to rip this towel apart. While the taste was strong in matcha, it was hard to cut the cake up with a fork, so I would prefer the crepe cake over the towel cake. There's seating inside and outside the place. During times when all the tables were taken, I've found seating on benches along the street. I'm excited to try the other desserts and drinks on their menu! read more
Finally got to try Kyo Matcha and it's definitely the perfect place to grab a sweet treat! We heard it always has a line but luckily we went during off hours and it wasn't too busy. We ordered two matcha drinks and two desserts: the tiramisu crepe cake and the matcha cheese mousse cake. Both desserts were good but the cheese mousse cake was the star and I would definitely order again! There's not much seating inside and a few tables outside so just be prepared if you plan on visiting. A few dessert options had also sold out by the time we got there too. Overall, loved the experience here! read more

Arrived here and there was a long line out the door. The line did move fairly quickly and we got our items fairly quickly also. Ice cream was delicious- great matcha flavor though the matcha isn't very sweet so if you like yours sweet, I would make sure to get it with the vanilla for balance. The milk tea was a bit disappointing. Boba wasn't good and the drink felt water down with minimal flavor. Would come back for the ice cream but pass on the drinks read more
!!I WAITED 3 HOURS FOR THIS AND IT WAS WORTH EVERY SECOND!! Strawberry Matcha Latte was so smooth and had fresh strawberry bits in the bottom! The match towel cake was $10 and I could inhale it in like 10 seconds no fork is required. The towel cake is so interesting with light and fluffy matcha cream inside! I also liked their sakura cheesecake, the crust tasted like oreos but I'm not sure if it is? The clear gelatin on top a great jello texture but is overal flavorless, it just adds a great aesthetic layer to it. The cheesecake was not too sweet and very light! I can also inhale it in 10 seconds. The matcha crepe cake was soooo good! Look at all those even layers! The interior is also beautifully designed but pleasseeee I wish there was more seating! It was so cramped and just not enough space in between the seats. They do offer outside seating which is awesomeee!! But I really wanted to sit inside for vibes :( ALSOOO they have a beautiful big mirror wall with flowers for pictures! The staff was so friendly and welcoming, with such a busy business I give kudos for keeping it cool! Please please please let the hype die down so I can come in peace and get seating inside!! read more

walked by here in the morning and one of the workers stopped us to let us know it was their soft opening! I'm only in Boston for a trip so it was so exciting to try a new store during their early stages. we ordered their tiramisu crepe cake, matcha cream puff, guava grapefruit tea, and their matcha latte. their tiramisu crepe cake was delicious. there was such an equal balance of crepe and crepe, and their cocoa powder on top really sealed the deal. their matcha cream puff had plenty of matcha inside of it and it looked amazing. their guava grapefruit tea was delicious. it's a little on the sweeter side so we were recommended to get it less sweet and it was the perfect amount. the service was amazing! I believe it is two sisters who run the shop and they are so friendly and sweet. they gave the best recommendations and they were even kind enough to let us try they raindrop dessert that came with a brown sugar syrup and another powder. the space inside is very clean and minimalistic. there's plenty of seating available and I think it would be the perfect spot to do work or catch up with friends. I believe they will also have outside seating as well. if you're in the area be sure to support this new business! when we went, drinks were dine in only, but their food items were available for dine in or take out. read more
Ending the trip into the city with soft serve was perfect! Ordered on the kiosk. The staff were pleasant and friendly. Informed me to head to pick up area when they started to work on my order. This was perfect since I'm not a fan of melting ice cream. Great texture. The flavor could be a hint stronger. read more
Really enjoyed it and worth the wait. Plenty of street meter parking for your leisure. Really bright, earthy, modern and quick with your orders. Love the matcha drinks and the ice cream with order ingredients mixed in, which did not make it overly sweet. Matcha flavor is not too strong but has flavor for sure. read more
Heard that the flavor of the month for ice cream was black sesame so I had to come try it out! The sesame flavor was very strong which was nice and the portion size was huge. Prices was $7, a bit expensive but not outrageous for the area. You order on a machine and everything comes out pretty quickly. read more

As a matcha connoisseur from LA I'm glad to say this place was delicious! The quality of the matcha was good and fresh. I got my matcha latte less sweet and it was still very good. I also got less ice but it was still cold and good so I'd recommend that. The matcha affogato was good although the ice cream to matcha shot ratio could have been less. The hojicha was good and the different toppings made it fun to eat. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty quick (waited maybe 5-10 mins). Super cute outdoor seating and would recommend going with a group on a nice day! There's a decent amount of street meter parking. read more

Tried this spot for the first time while visiting friends. It was amazing! One of the best dessert places I've been to. We ordered a few things which we shared. This includes ice cream, drinks, a mousse, and towel cake all of which were decadent and delicious. If you're driving, there is metered street parking around, or you can always take the T. You place your order using a kiosk, which is then ready for you in no time. The staff is friendly and efficient, and the place is nicely decorated with a few cute spots to take photos/selfies. I'll be back for more! Hopefully they'll have spot closer to my parents in the South Shore area. read more

Overhyped by tiktok as usual. I got a matcha ice cream and matcha crepe cake, both were awful and disappointing. The ice cream had a bitter aftertaste and while talking about bitter, the crepe cake was wayyyy overloaded with matcha powder, inside and out. It tasted like if you were to put a spoonful of grass into your mouth. It was very bitter for a cake that is meant to be sweet. Overall, definitely won't be back...like a 2/10. read more

Came back on Saturday post lunch and the line wasn't too long. Luckily, they still have some of the cake so finally was able to try it.
