Delicious! All food was very fresh and a plentiful helping! Friendly and attentive staff.

It was a busy rainy day when I came here last Saturday. And it's been a long time since I've last visited Kozue. Luckily, it's been surviving through the pandemic. A tent now surrounds the outdoor seating area and knowing where to wait was a it awkward. Walking in, you'll find an area for take out orders, but if you walk past that to the indoor seating area, you'll find a clipboard for the waiting list where you can put your name down. One of the servers noticed me and I waved back to get a table. They kindly asked me to put my name down on the waiting list. Most of the tables were full and there were not that many of them. Fortunately for me, a table just left. So I was able to get a table for 3 in the tented area. It was dinner time, so I ordered the grilled salmon teriyaki entree and an order of gyoza to start. I also got a blue fin tuna hand roll that was advertised on their specials. The rest of my party ended up ordering sushi. We also got a large hot house sake since it felt appropriate with the rainy weather. Warmed me up while listening to the sounds of the rain falling. Felt really relaxed. The salmon entree came with miso soup which was nice and cloudy. It was good for this weather too. Didn't wait too long for the food to come out. The salmon entree was very good that had 3 pieces which looked like a lot, but it was enough that it didn't feel like I was over stuffed. Came with a shredded iceberg lettuce salad which covered half of the plate. That was overdoing it for me presentation-wise and as part of the meal. Did not finish the salad that's for sure. The gyoza could've been crispier, but tasted delicious never the less. The sushi was alright. Nothing too special here, but it was good. Simple is never bad here. Service was quite good here, but I definitely think they can have more tables if they rearrange the place a bit. I do enjoy their entrees a lot over the sushi here. Will definitely come back for that.

I happened upon this place after a few hiccups in my trip. I was grateful they took cards. The sushi was ok; I honestly expected way more out of what I got. They also DIDNT have any fatty tuna or blue fin tuna, which was so disappointing. Otherwise the service was really friendly and I was served my sushi promptly. Seem to have great happy hour deals.

Day 2 of escaping the center of the sun at home. I drove and another person chose Kozue, three doors down from my favorite izakaya spot (6/19/18). Chose a corner table inside with its feeble AC, but better than outdoor seating wearing too many clothes. But then, if I had stripped down to my skivvies, there would be sudden snowfall on their outdoor patio! lol Drowned in copious ice water. Tasty miso. Stuck with a hamachi roll and hotate nigiri. Chomped on the fried shrimp head, but not the eyes. Made the bad move of ordering the curry beef bowl. Decent steamed rice. Curry sauce with slivers of mushroom, no evidence of carrots, potatoes, or onions. To the sentiment of Calgon, Mashiko take me away! The thinly sliced, flavorless, overcooked shoe leather...oh I meant, beef, was dreadful. My black leather motorcycle jacket is more supple than the beef served. Takes talent to brutalize beef! Two stars for that sad protein (sushi wasn't spectacular...but then I ate some questionable kaiten sushi elsewhere yesterday!). Increased to three because the wait staff were pleasant and kept me hydrated. Went to Kozue a gazillion years ago, in prehistoric dino Yelp days. I'll just let this go extinct and next time stick with my izakaya spot at the sushi bar. Unlike this place with zero background music, the other spot plays reggae, ya mon.

They have a good Happy Hour menu, in which most of the items are $5, my favorite items are the spicy teriyaki beef, takoyaki and fried oysters. They have great choices of Bentos as well. I like their sparkling sake, very refreshing! It's best to make reservations here as they're always busy! It's one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Seattle.

Clam Chazuke Kozue Style (grilled rice ball with spicy clam and shrimp soup)

Came here for a Saturday dinner with friends. We ordered edamame, calamari stripes Katsu style, and gyoza to share. For entrees I ordered the clam chazuke kozue style (grilled rice ball with spicy clam and shrimp soup). My boyfriend ordered the Katsu curry with pork Katsu. The food got served quite fast. Food: Edamame was served warm, which was not the authentic way to do it, but I like it :) Gyoza was average, but the bean sprouts on side were delicious. The calamari Katsu tasted good with the house sauce but weird with the sweet soy sauce. My clam chazuke was disappointing. The rice ball and the soup was separated, unlike how they are served usually. That's fine, I can pour the soup over the rice. The broth itself was okay, though a bit too heavy and salty. On the menu it was said there would be shrimp in the chazuke, but I only found clams, unagi and salmon. To be honest, the soft fatty texture of unagi (eel) and salmon made them taste disgusting in soup, let alone the small bones in the fish chunks. The clams were just okay, slightly fishy and not very refreshing. The yellow radish on the side had a weird sanitizer taste in it... My boyfriend thought his curry Katsu was okay. My friends ordered salmon salad and yosenabe and rated them average too. Service was good. No mandatory tips. Won't be back though...

My gf and I ate nothing all day so decided to be mega fattys and ordered a ton of food here during happy hour. While the sushi was pretty expensive compared to other places in the neighborhood (like Musashi), it was fairly tasty. The Seattle roll was a bit salty but the Cali roll was awesome. We also ordered shrimp shu mai, spring rolls, and gyoza. To me, the gyoza was good but the other two apps were mediocre at best. As a main my gf ordered the shoyu ramen and I got yakisoba. I thought the yakisoba was good, not great. However, the ramen was pretty awful. Broth was bland, egg was overcooked, and chashu was chewy. We did get a matcha tea that was probably some of the best matcha I've ever had. We loved it. As far as the service goes, they were incredibly good hosts. They also passed my water test (they fill up your water without asking). Overall, food was 2.5/5 and service was 5/5 so I rated it a 3. Worth going to ONLY during happy hours and AVOID the ramen.

We love the food here! We came for the Saturday lunch (note: lunch is only available on Saturday from 12-3) and it amazed us. We tried chicken karaage & teriyaki salmon, and teriyaki beef. All of the main food was really tasty. Th rice and miso soup were great too. Both of us chose the $12 combination lunch and we were really full after the food. The service was warm and the staff was really friendly. Thank you for providing the great food and service!

    Salmon Lovers roll, rectangle sushi

First time here and I loved it! The HH menu is also available on the weekends, def try it out if you get the chance. We were seated inside and fortunately they allow one party inside. There were plenty of people seated outside by 5:30, I recommend calling ahead for reservations or arriving early. My partner and I enjoyed the white fish sashimi with ponzu sauce (not pictured). For drinks we got the sencha matcha tea that's $5 for a bottle, super refreshing! Next we ordered the rectangle sushi, Salmon lovers--the roll is paired with this white creamy sauce. Honestly this was also refreshing and this was one of the most aesthetically pleasing rolls I've ordered. My partner ordered a tempura bento box and the tempura was on point; the batter was cooked perfectly and the California rolls that came with it were huge. I ordered the chazuke dish, this was paired with a onigiri and a very strong broth with clams, octopus, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and salmon (?). The soup is very salty but you're supposed to pour some onto the onigiri and everything just meelllltsss in your mouth. There's danmuji (yellow pickled radish) on the side to refresh your palette from time to time. Overall 5/5 and I look forward to coming back!

I finally got a chance to try this place! I'm glad to see it's still there. It's been there for years, but I had never gone. Well, it was delicious! I had a yummy lunch with grilled chicken and salmon teriyaki, rice, salad, and miso, all well-priced and satisfying (the onigiri I ate for dinner). The service was impeccable, and I got to practice my Japanese. The teriyaki was a little sweet, but more savory, not sticky-sweet like other places do teriyaki, and it went well with the grilled chicken and soft salmon. The salad was fresh and the dressing light. I thought the lunch was nicely priced at $12 (the onigiri was only $4 more). I would have liked a little more salmon in the onigiri, but otherwise I really enjoyed it all. There were a lot of options for lunch and more for dinner, so I look forward to trying it again.

We came on the earlier side and ended up waiting around 20 minutes before ordering. I got the dover and fries, and this was probably one of the best fish and chips dishes I have ever had! The fish was super duper thin and coated generously, and then topped with some seasoning mix that was so flavorful. The fries / potatoes were also insanely crispy and flavorful - the skins were the best part. I also really liked the tarter sauce that it came with! I can still remember how it all tastes. We tried the smoked salmon dip with chips, the fried chicken sandwich and the the black cod kasusuke. The crab rolls were sold out by the time we got there or we definitely would have tried those. The salmon dip was good, lots of dill, and the chips were crispy. The fried fish sandwich was light, which was nice for something fried, and the roll it was on was soft and warm. The black cod kasusuke was my favorite dish of the meal. The black cod was tender and fell apart, and it was seasoned so nice. It came with a spinach salad and rice which was also delicious. If I could give half stars, this would be pushing a 4.5. Nothing blew me away, but everything was fresh and enjoyable!

The service was friendly, attentive, and surprisingly quick. The restaurant was completely full on a weekday at 7 PM, which says a lot about how popular it is, yet the staff still kept everything running smoothly. The staff, on a busy summer evening, seemed personally offended that we were there. The host sat us at a wet table, when I asked if they could dry it, the drying process came with an attitude. I specifically noticed that the host was busy, and wanting to be overly gracious, I thanked them for returning to dry the table three times, and was ignored - no "You're welcome" or "No worries" or anything, just dry the table with an attitude and rush off. Drinks, also delivered by the host, were dropped off with an attitude at the end of the table - "Here you go," as they sat them down - not asking which one of you had this or that - just "Here you go" and then away. The server, at first also seemed a little rude, no pleasantries - just "What can I get you." No "Hello, welcome in" The server got better with time. We appreciated the character arc. The food was fine. Our appetizer arrived after our entrées, which was a choice. (It was olives. We're still not sure what they needed more time to do.) Because we were so close to our dining neighbors, I was actually able to ask them what they were eating since it looked so good. And that's how we ended up with some mind blowing fritters. A perfect appetizer to start the night. They have a great selection of wines that are actually reasonably priced to buy by the bottle. I'm pretty sure I saw someone taking one home that they drank a few bottles out of also, which is a first. I was impressed by the creativity of the dishes as well. I'm not one to be impressed by cabbage, or ever order it, but the charred cabbage looked enticing. The cheese on the bottom, seasoning, and dates transformed this ordinary vegetable into a star. And of course you gotta see what they're doing with the seasonal veggies. I can't seem to ever cook squash the right way, but they crafted it into the ideal consistency where it was almost meaty. That New York Strip was out of this world though... the garlic sauce that accompanied it was just enough of a flavor enhancer that it didn't take away from a steak that was cooked to the ideal temp. The depth of flavor and uniqueness of each dish was incredible. Cocktails: I got the Carajillo Frosty. This was WAY too strong to where I could hardly taste anything but the alcohol. It sounded like a fun drink, but I was tipsy before our first dish arrived and I didn't even finish the drink. Oyster Shooters- Cool concept, not great execution. If we are adding fun things like Mezcal and Jalapeno vinegar I was thinking something magical would happen in my mouth. Instead, my tastebuds were seared and my stomach was questioning if it would keep everything down. This is a hard pass. Oysters: They go from sweetest to most briny on the menu. So we got top two sweetest, followed by two in the middle and the last two. It was fun because we were really able to tell a difference in taste this way. I found out Im a sweeter oyster gal while my husband enjoyed the brinier one. With our oysters we got a glass of the NV Azimut Cava Brut Nature-excellent with all of the oysters! We will get this glass again. Next, clams. This is a MUST GET! The broth was outstanding and a different vibe from your typical "clams in white wine broth". Next, Pork Belly. I usually love Pork Belly, and this was mentioned as a must try a lot in the reviews, so that's why we got it. But the Pork Belly is definitely Pork Belly-ing here. Super rich (normal), and the accompanying flavors were strong and also fatty. It was a little heavy for us on this night. Great option if you don't like seafood, but if you do, go for the Halibut instead. We had a couple next to us who got the Halibut and I could smell that we missed out on that dish. So I would highly recommend you get the Halibut (even though we never tried it. I can just tell it's amazing). Dessert was Spiced Chocolate Pot De Creme. Again, fantastic! I honestly wasn't expecting this to be so good but the chef hit it out of the park. Really this review is more so I can remember what I got and liked/didn't like and can order the winners again. The servers acted like they didn't want to be at work, we even observed a customer adding a last minute order when she received her check, watched the server make a face and then walk away, under her breath making eye contact with another coworker and said " Oh my God!". Apparently there is a mandatory 22% gratuity charge with your bill, so maybe that is why the service is mediocre to poor, as they don't care about their attitude, they know they're getting a tip anyway. Beautiful views, poor service, and limited meal options.

starting off, i was pleasantly surprised by the portion of sourdough bread given prior to the meal…read more- as I wasn't expecting that the bread wasn't anything special - but i did like the outside; found it to be pretty crispy. also, i liked the fact that they gave you butter as a dip, although it wasn't easy to spread it on the sourdough as it was just one big block i thought the main part of this dish, the salmon sliders, were quite good, however this came in three separate 'sliders', each with a base of rosemary bread, a sliced tomato, and a portion of salmon, topped with pesto the actual salmon itself was ok - personally i thought it was a bit stringy and chewy, but otherwise not bad. being brushed with oil certainly helped with the taste however, the other aspects of the slider were fantastic normally, i don't like tomatoes, but it fit really well with this dish. the flavor was there but not overpowering i also quite liked the pesto as a condiment - there was a solid amount on there - and it added a nutty texture that was good the best part of these sliders, however, was the rosemary bread. this was exquisitely good - it was crispy, herby, buttery, and served as an incredible base for the sandwich as a whole. i absolutely loved every bite of this the other thing that was a great touch was placing the sliders on the bottom of the bread rather than the 'more fluffy' side. this ensured that the bread wouldn't get soggy from the tomato/salmon and had it retain its crunchiness to the maximum three sliders was also a pretty good portion size another thing i enjoyed was the salad. a lot of places think that lots of dressing, often oil, is necessary to make a good salad, but this place managed to deliver something that tasted really good and had nice flavor with the use of little to no dressing. i'm impressed at the end of my meal, i got a carrot cake from the dessert menu this was decently sized, and the cream cheese frosting on this had a wonderful flavor i didn't taste the carrot as much in the inside of the cake, but i could tell it was still baked well, and the frosting added a great touch i would say its more of a cupcake than a cake, however i came during happy hour, so for the price of about $14, the sourdough bread + the salmon sliders were a pretty good value i can't say the same for the carrot cake - as while it was good - about 9 dollars is a little too expensive for that

I like the decor and it really has a Seattle vibe. There are a lot of window booths which I like…read more Parking can be a bit spotty as the lot is small. I had calamari and Salmon blue cheese Caesar salad. The salad with the blueberries and pecans tasted really good together. The service was definitely excellent too.
