I was looking for a spot for my friends and I to hang out and enjoy dessert. This is the perfect place to do that because there's tons of seating and they even have board games that you can play. I may have also seen a karaoke machine in the back, but I'm not sure if that's available for public use. They have a lot of traditional Chinese/Taiwanese desserts, including grass jelly, which I really enjoyed. The jelly was fragrant and perfectly sweetened, and the coconut cream was smooth and silky. I really liked the texture of the soufflé pancake and the cream was so tasty. Unfortunately, after eating one pancake, I ran out of cream for the rest, so I definitely wish there was a little bit more to go around. Wasn't the biggest fan of the milk tea, but it did the trick. They also have a few savory dishes. I enjoyed my White & White (almond soup and tofu pudding) with taro balls, which had just the right amount of sweetness. The Ovaltine toast was also tasty, although the milk inside was a little thick and sweet for my taste. It all went well with the vanilla ice cream though. My friend also liked her Red & White (red bean soup with lotus seeds and tofu pudding). We went down a Google rabbit hole trying to figure out what the dessert ho fun was, and my partner ended up getting it with osmanthus noodles, milk tea, watermelon, taro balls, and mini rice balls. He loved it, and we were all pleasantly surprised that the "noodles" were really just thicker, jelly-like strands. Great to have another late-night dessert option in the area. I've been wanting to try Kowloon Tong for a while but held off because of the subpar reviews. Sad to say that I agree with people's overall rating, though I do give KT props for the decoration effort and big menu. I always feel like it's a rip-off getting HK desserts in NY because of the priciness, so I tried to get things that aren't easily available at other spots or easy to make at home. Kowloon Tong ho fun - creative format of mimicking a bowl of ho fun and selecting the soup base and toppings. You get to choose the flavor of ho fun (coconut jelly or osmanthus), soup base (coconut milk, ilk tea, mango juice), base (sago or grass jelly), fruit topping, and 2 more toppings. Since I've had the coconut noodle dessert in HK before, I went with osmanthus. But I think coconut would've tasted better. The floral notes also didn't match the milk tea soup base I chose. Overall, I don't recommend the milk tea because it felt like I was drinking milk tea with toppings from a bowl. I think coconut milk would've been the best choice to make it feel more dessert-like and less beverage-like. My bowl also had mango, milk pudding, and mini rice balls. I give this a 3/5. For almost $13, you get a lot of stuff. However, if you don't select bases and toppings that go well together, your dessert might not taste good. Moreover, I couldn't say that any aspect of this dessert was really delicious and that I'd want it again. Strawberry creme souffle pancake - do NOT get. This has to be the worst souffle pancake I've ever eaten at a restaurant. And trust me, I've had my fair share of souffle pancakes in the U.S. and abroad. My husband is not a professional chef by any means, and this literally tasted like the souffle pancake he tried to make at home. It was a big fail because it did not have the airiness and fluff that souffle pancakes are supposed to have. It was also very densely eggy. The strawberry creme also tasted very artificial in a saccharine way, similar to those boxed strawberry shortcake rolls from American supermarkets. Kowlong Tong Ho Fun: there are many components to ordering this! And it's very customizable too so have fun and cater to what you like to eat. First, you decide on the flavor of the ho fun/noodle - I asked the water and he said the osmanthus oolong flavor is the most unique, which I definitely agreed. Next is your "soup" base, which I think coconut milk is usually a good base for these Asian desserts. After those two, you have to select another base, your fruits and toppings. It's a whole process! I really enjoyed everything all together, but depending on what you get, some items will definitely be on the sweeter side. Came here today after dinner to try out this new spot by my house. My friend had previously came here and said it was good so I had high expectations. We ordered a few dessert to share. Highlight was probably the coconut ice dessert with grass jelly. The coconut ice was refreshing everything else I could have done without since the mochi ball was bland and none of us could figure out what it was.. we assumed sweet potato for orange and taro for purple but it didn't taste like any. Didn't enjoy the purple taro sago it was way too sweet IMO The soufflé was quite pricey at $14-15 we ordered the strawberry one and while it did come out jiggly I was dissapointed in the strawberry frosting they used.. it tasted like boxed cake frosting or the dip for the Yan yans and was a bit too artificial for me but my friends seemed to like it. I think if they just had strawberries and whipped cream it would have tasted better to me. We didn't get to try the ginger steamed milk but my friend who did try it previously said it was good but the ginger was a bit too strong that it tasted quite spicy. Do note that they only carry the tofu pudding ( tofu fa on weekends). And we had to ask for a reward stamp card when checking out, I would have thought it would be offered when I went to pay since we did get $40-50 worth of stuff. read more

Decided to grab desserts one random evening and was able to try a couple of items. They are open as late as 11pm and midnight on the weekends. Closed on Mondays. This spot and the building is fairly new, clean and spacious. They have this pink theme throughout the restaurant with a backdrop of a pink tree and a moon. My top 2 favorite is their Coconut Shaved Ice with Ube paste, mochi, grass jelly. I love the texture of their fine and smooth shaved ice, when consumed in store. The dessert will be a watery texture for takeout/delivery, but still good. The mochi was not my favorite. To me, the mochi has a light lychee taste and/or strong freezer taste. It's just a bit off putting compared to another spot. The ube paste is fire, get it, you won't regret it. Almond Paste Soup with Sesame Balls. Their almond paste is really good. I do recommend this if you're going for something hot. I only have compared it to trying it in China and those instant ones in dessert spots. Hard to find a smooth and thick one without that instant gritty watery texture. I was really disappointed with their black sesame paste and their Matcha Soufflé pancakes, do not plan on ordering these again. I did not want to finish these desserts. The Soufflé pancake does take at least 30 minutes if you're up for the wait. The matcha cream had no matcha flavor. The pancake batter and preparation has a lot of room for improvement. Kowloon Tong has very easily and quickly become one of my favorite dessert spots in Bensonhurst Brooklyn! The interior of this quaint, unassuming dessert place is so amazingly cute and inviting. With the lively pink and white interior, it feels like I can have any conversation with anyone at this dessert spot. They have this amazing deal where they have BOGO 50% off for bubble tea. After seating ourselves, we were given a menu to look at. To start, there's a good variety you can choose from. Originally, my friend had wanted the black and white, but they don't serve it during weekdays. We opted for the mango pomelo sago (my go-to), the purple yam and taro with sago, and the black sesame soup with peanut glutinous rice ball. This place keeps popping up when I'm looking for restaurants along 86st. Finally got a chance to try this when I was craving black sesame soup for a few days. My mom ordered it for takeout so we could try it together at home. Credit card minimum $12 Black sesame soup $7.5 This was quite bad...it was thicker than Elmer's glue, inedible. I added soymilk at home and had to add like half the quart size to dilute it to a normal consistency. Similar to what other people said, it's not sweet which is good. I won't say this is yummy but realistically it is more sesame flavor than other places. When black sesame soup packets or black sesame powder from supermarkets are even more tasteless, I guess this place is not bad. It still doesn't satisfy my craving and itch for genuinely rich and flavorful black sesame soup. Also I think $7.5 is so expensive. I wouldn't want to eat this outside regardless of how much I was craving. Also I think it's stupid how half half mixes with other flavors are more expensive than the price of a full bowl of the more expensive half. That's just discouraging people from trying other flavors. I bet they just scoop from a big pot into these bowls. It's not like it's super hard to portion out. How much will they lose from having 0.5 bowl of waste. My mom likes souffle pancake but thought it was too expensive to try here. Dessert is like that nowadays. The bigger issue is that she couldn't try it for takeout. It's eat-in only. I get that it takes longer to make and will deflate after being out for too long, but I think it's still doable to let people do takeout, maybe not delivery which is harder to control the timing. I think as long as the customer is aware of the 30 minutes preparation time and is aware of the risk of deflation, it's okay to sell takeout. So many people live nearby or can eat in their car. Plenty of other things on their menu are at risk of not tasting good when not eaten fresh: glutinous rice balls and tapioca will turn stiff, ice cream will melt, hot soups will turn cold, etc. Also I'm not pleased with their branding. My mom commented that their interior looks cheap/finished poorly despite it seemingly being pretty on camera. The interior and paper menu are consistently pink, but what is the meaning of it? The design elements are more Japanese. The moon decoration in store is not related to either. I get that their Chinese name is a pun on the word sugar in Cantonese such that their English name Kowloon Tong can use sugar to replace the original word of Tong. Then here comes the question, what does Kowloon Tong mean? I meant for the sake of the store or items or owners? Even if you tell me something as basic as maybe the owners grew up in Kowloon Tong, then there's some meaning. Otherwise, I see no reason for the name Kowloon Tong, and it's a waste of the name when there are many thematic elements that can be used to fulfill their branding. I'm not saying all businesses are consistent with their branding, but they have multiple strong elements here that are not cohesive. Also I thought their menu would be typo free but unfortunately it has typos. Some of the formatting is weird. Fixing that would help with the spacing and readability of their menu. read more

This is a new spot and it is hidden. If I didn't look at the billboard standing at the street corner closely and decide to look up and around to find this place, I would've missed it. I'm a fan of Chinese dessert and I'm currently love "ice noodle" which this place calls "ho fun". So glad to see a place in the neighborhood that serve that. You get to pick from three types of ho fun and various toppings. I wish I had more ho fun but otherwise you get good portions of the other toppings. The souffle pancake is also really goo and bouncy. We ordered the peanut glutinous rice balls, red bean sweet soup mixed with tofu, eggs with beancurd sweet soup and Grass jelly coconut milk with taro balls. The sweet soup is not sweet ,just made it how HK style was. The glutinous rice balls is very chewy and has nice texture. Portions are just right and the price is reasonable. If you like HK traditional sweet soup and nearly the neighborhood you must definitely give this new place a try. Overall my experience with this place is very good. Food is OK at best. This review is based entirely on the service. A lady chased us for tips which we paid. No water, or tea provided. For a drink and 1 sweet dessert soup. I do not recall being chased for tips in Mango mango, grace street, or VIVIs. Just a warning for new diners, they will chase you for tips, expect to pay!!! Just dine out if u really need sugar cravings. read more
