It was very busy when we went so we had to wait a little. I enjoy their combo menu where you can get a entree and a drink. The food came out hot and quick. Their milk tea is yummy. A very casual and busy restaurant.
Staffs were friendly. Came here for brunch which was busy. I recommend ordering their breakfast set which has variety of options - each $8. It also comes with coffee or milk tea. You can request them to make the drinks cold on a summer day. Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambience: 4/5
One of my favorite afternoon tea and breakfast place for a steal. Their breakfast in the past has been a hit or miss especially with their milk tea but surprisingly it's gotten better the last few times I've been there in recent months. Afternoon tea is a great place to hang and grab a small bite with drink. Definitely your classic HK tea feel. They're quick and does rush you during weekend brunch hours. Their baked dishes are also one of our favorites. Prices are reasonable for the neighborhood.
Kowloon Café 九龍冰室 was bustling when we visited twice in one day; we had short waits for a table in both visits. What we had: - Spam and Egg Sandwich 餐肉蛋三明治: $4.25; $4.63 with tax. - Plain Wonton Soup 淨雲吞湯: $9; $9.80 with tax. - Singapore-style Stir-Fried Vermicelli 星州炒米: $12; $13.07 with tax. Good flavor, but with a thin layer of ingredients atop the noodles. - Baked Portuguese Chicken with Spaghetti 焗葡國雞意粉: $10; $10.89 with tax. We didn't like the coconut-flavored noodles and chicken. - Hong Kong Style Milk Tea (hot, 8 oz) 熱港式奶茶: $2.75; $2.99 with tax. Good, but not as nuanced as the one from Superior Wonton. Other: One has to separately request chopsticks. The restrooms are well-maintained. Overall we prefer Chun Hong Kong Café to Kowloon Café as the former seems to use more and higher-quality ingredients in their dishes, but Kowloon Café is a respectable choice for the area.
Great date spot for lunch! Got the HK milk tea, butter and condensed milk roll, and baked Portuguese chicken over spaghetti. It was super delicious and as a bonus, it all came out to under $20! The atmosphere is very retro and I love the vibe (we sat next to the wonton soup picture). Highly recommend, definitely will be coming here again. =)
Nice little place that has authentic Hong Kong breakfast and some plates from there. The only problem is the place opens a little late for offering breakfast at 10am. This place gets very crowded, especially on the weekends so it can get loud and feel a little crowded. Because it can busy, sometimes your wait time for food can get a little long. Overall, the food the pretty good at least.
Had the sizzling steak that comes with Broccoli and spaghetti, the steak was salty and spaghetti was too sweet and had a weird aftertaste. Had the shrimp and egg rice noodles which were alright. The soy sauce chicken wings, toast with Condensed milk, scallion pancake, and imitation shark fin soup. Service was good and quick.
Was in the area and visited Kowloon again with my nephew, which hasn't been there for over 10 years. While the food was decent, I felt the portion got smaller. The sweet & sour pork over rice needed a little more sauce. The crab pocket was just not how it used to tasted. Wings were great, French toast tasted a little off as well. Both the noodle soups were meh, my nephew wasn't quite full with the bowl of noodles.
Service was excellent. Not busy when we went around 8pm. People did come in after we ordered. Food reminded me of Hong Kong. Would go back for more .
This restaurant makes me feel like I'm dining in Hong Kong. The menu selection and décor bring back memories of Hong Kong, and the food is delicious with generous portions at a good price. It does get crowded, especially on weekends, so be prepared for a bit of a wait.
Liked a place that tastes good and offers a good selection of special combos. Came here for breakfast and it's a place for Hong Kong style food. That means tasty and not spicy. Lots of rice based offers. We had congees and noodles (both string and flat ones). Just go and give it a try. I will come back!
Ordered take out last night. They are really skimping/not doing quality control. The "6th" wing is basically not existent. And don't even get me started on the toast. We asked very specifically for "butter & condense milk toast" only! They added peanut butter and almost killed my son who is allergic to nuts! Thank God I checked the toast before giving it to him. Only reason I'm still giving two stars is for the beef chow fun with egg sauce which is always on point.
Came recently because I really wanted to try the beef with radish stew. However, the stewed beef was mostly all beef tendors- very chewy. I actually disliked those Chinese stew beef tendons as its hard to eat. I know it's expected in Chinese beef stew and even in the traditional beef noodle soups, but there wasn't much regular beef pieces. Their noodles in mix sauce (cheng fun) is always piping hot and delicious.

Was a loyal customer. And they have officially failed me. My coworker is pregnant she ordered a chicken cutlet with spaghetti and she got a raw piece of chicken literally. RAW. We called and they told us they will give us another order next time we come back. What kind of service is that. read more

This is like the Brooklyn version of Cha Tan Tang (in Manhattan CT). I think I went into the restaurant with high expectation. The food was alright. I ordered a black bean noodle and it came with a soup. My brother ordered a beef stir-fry and a shark fin soup (not real shark obv.). He said the stir-fry was really greasy. I also ordered a peach drink (forgot the name) and a red bean ice for my brother. The peach drink was soooo sweet, waaayy to sweet. I think I was sugar high after that. The bill came to $30~. I don't think it was worth it...but I'm only judging by the 2 dishes and 2 drinks we got. They have many more traditional Hong Kong style dishes to choose from. read more

This was a lunch visit and it was surely a better experience than breakfast. We arrived before 1pm and had a 10 minute wait which was normal on a Sunday. We had : 1/ beef chow ho fan - the dish was nicely done in the way it's meant to be in HK style ~ really hot oil and wok. The noodles came out nice and soft with the grease and soy sauce equally lingered on each noodles but not having them stuck together like glue. It was perfect! The beef they use in this shop has to be high quality meat because it's not chewy and you can't taste the bicarbonate soda which they use in most Chinese restaurant. The texture of the beef is like homemade loin meat-so good! 2/ salt and pepper pork ribs with rice - nice dish with plenty of rice. Would have preferred more pork but I guess with the set price you can't expect a lot. Again the dish was nicely done. Came out hot and fresh and the salt and pepper taste is just right. I would eat in the restaurant. Take out would ruin the entire dish altogether. read more
Kowloon Cafe has been a neighborhood favorite for me and my friends for years. With large photos of Hong Kong decorating the walls, the cafe offers a casual and authentic Hong Kong cha chan tang feel, great for lunch, midday snack, or dinner. Prices are reasonable and food is good. It might not blow you away, but the food hits the spot, and sometimes that's just okay. We particularly love coming for their Hong Kong style milk tea. They also have toasts and crepes for your dessert or midday tea desires. It's always a good time at Kowloon Cafe if you come with the right people. read more

OH MY Foodness!!!! I found another spot that is worth talking about. This is Kowloon Cafe in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. For breakfast they have a special for $5.50 and I got myself a congee, stir fried noodles and a cup of coffee... the congee is so good I want to get another bowl but I know it will be too much. I also got an order of sunny side egg top my noodles. worth the extra buck or two! It gets crazy here during lunch time so come early! Worth the stop I promise! read more

Food 4 stars. Service 3. Finally there's a legit HK cafe in NYC. Ordered Portuguese baked chicken rice, it was delicious. There were crispy potatoes in it. Soup was salty but we ll take it. French toast was good. We think our waiter had an all nighter. He got 3 out of 4 things wrong. He wasn't rude but hello!!?? We will definitely be back, perhaps for take out.. read more

This is one of the best Hong Kong cafe I always like in NYC. The food is always delicious and of course affordable. Their HK milk tea is silky and authentic. The HK style lo mein is my favorite of all time. read more

This was my first exposure to food that, according to my Cantonese friend, is typically served in Hong Kong cafes. Apparently white rice baked in cheese is a thing there. We ordered a Portuguese Chicken Baked Rice and an Oxtail Stew Baked Rice. I wasn't sure how the baked rice dishes would taste with the cheese, but it was better than I expected. The baked rice dishes are listed under the Western category, it still retained an Asian flavor. The oxtail one was especially good. I thought the cheese would overpower all the other flavors, but flavor of the oxtail and tomatoes combined well with the cheese. I guess in general you can't go wrong with white rice or gooey melted cheese. We also ordered a standard Pork Belly w/ Preserved Vegetables over Rice. I didn't like how they ground up the pork belly into pieces, but the flavor was good. Best part was eating the white rice soaked in the juices from the pork belly. I'm not sure I would come here again, but as I have never been to Hong Kong, it was interesting getting exposure to these regional specialties. read more
I just had to write an update for Kowloon because of the awesome food I just recently had. I went there twice in a weeks time because their menu was just so irresistable. A Hong Kong style cafe situated in Brooklyn gives all the locals a chance to try some authentic Cantonese cafe food. I was actually really surprised at how good the English was when one of the waiter spoke to me, thumbs up to that. Service is great and the waiters communicates well, they made sure to tell you how long a dish would be if it's over 10 minutes. Salt and Pepper Duck Tongue - really excellent dish if you love munching on duck tongues. They don't have much meat but the act of eating around that bone is quite entertaining and also tasty. Western Style Baked Oxtail Stew over Spaghetti - best dish of the night. This taste absolutely delicious. If you're not squeamish about oxtails then you ought to give this a try. There are some carrots and potatoes that are cooked along with the oxtails. There are generous portions of oxtail so you don't have to feel like you're getting ripped off, the spaghetti was cooked perfectly with a nice curry flavored sauce. Western Style Baked Portuguese Chicken over Spaghetti - this wasn't as awesome as the oxtail but it was good. The sauce was a tad bit weird to my liking, it was more on the sweet potato side. I'm use to the curry flavor one so this was a bit off-putting. Nonetheless, the chicken was really tender and they only use dark meat. Chinese Sausage and Preserved Duck in a Rice Clay Pot - they usually only serve this dish on weekdays, so beware! The pot is smaller than usual but it'll definitely fill a person up. The soy sauce that was given was excellent, not too salty or too heavy. I can't seem to have enough of Kowloon because their food is so comforting. read more

I've been here couple of times alone and food is usually fresh and filling. Baked dishes never disappoint (Portuguese chicken my fave). Service may be inattentive but you're here for the affordable but appetizing food. I always get hot Hong Kong style milk tea and it has that authentic tea aroma which I like. Best to come during weekdays if dining since Friday nights and weekend are usually crowded. read more

My faaveeee place to get food, any time. They serve breakfast sets, just like in HK which is great for breakfast and sunday brunch, although it's always packed on sunday. My favorite thing to get here is the Western Style dishes. They make amazing cheese baked dishes. My favorite is the Baked Ham With Cheese with white sauce over spaghetti. MMMMMMM. read more

Just drop by today for wonton noodle and kawloon fry rice Service was so bad and the tea had white stuff floating on top. I ask the waiter to change the my fry rice because there's some black stuff they in the rice. They told me it was black beans But I took the black stuff out it wasn't black bean it was some kinda of sticky green grease with hair! Anyways. This is my last time going read more

We went here on a Sunday morning for breakfast. The congee here is super cheap, 2 dollars I believe. It was okay, it could use some more seasoning. We ordered the peanut butter chern fun and it was okay. They put a lot of the black sauce so it kinda overpowered the peanut butter taste of the dish. The fried buns were alright. It's a girl's worst nightmare though. I mean, sweet fried carbs. How scary for the summer. Their salt and pepper wings were pretty good. They were super small so I don't know if it's worth five dollars. The staff here are super nice. They speak great English and Cantonese. They asked for refills and didn't rush us out at all. On a Sunday late afternoon, there was not much customers. I ordered the French Toast, Kowloon House Special Soup (shark fin soup), and the Spam and Egg sandwich as a snack. For the drink, I ordered the Kumquat Lemon Tea. Everything tasted good, especially the french toast! The drink was very good! Service was good since there were a few customers. Kowloon, HK, and Viet are my top 3 on 86th St when I want a quick and cheap fix. The waiters here are far more friendlier than the ones at HK. Their portions are a bit smaller, but the flavor is better. They are an HK style restaurant but have western style dishes. I usually get the baked spaghetti with minced beef and even though I feel like crap after eating the whole thing, it's great. I sometimes get the linguini with red clam sauce- also a good choice! read more

Delicious Hong Kong Style Restaurant! So on 86th street, there are 3 HK style restaurants- this one, HK Tea & Sushi & Legends Sizzling (Formerly Legends Steakhouse). I usually end up going to HK Tea & Sushi because my family prefers going there but to be honest, I went to Kowloon Cafe recently & will be going there more often now. It's cheaper, more tastier, & less packed. I'm not sure if they vamped up the menu since I've been there but I was so excited to see Noodle Sticks w/Mixed Sauce on the menu (this is basically rice noodles w/peanut sauce & sesame seeds on top). This is a childhood staple of many including mines so I was delighted they offer this here. Two other tables got this so it must be a popular dish. We also got the Kowloon Toast & I will definitely be coming back to get this again. The toast is great (they make it with thick bread, topped with strawberries, powdered sugar & whipped butter, w/syrup on the side) but the best part is when I cut through it I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was stuffed w/red bean paste! I also ordered the Baked Ham w/White Sauce over Spaghetti- YUM! The white sauce they make is really hearty & cheesy. This dish took a while since it needs to be baked but I loved how the cheese comes out a little brown on top. I feel like if the restaurant renovated a little bit to be more modern- especially the awning signage outside, it would draw more customers as it looks a bit run down. My wife and I just got back from the newly redecorated Kowloon Cafe. We've been going there for the last few years and we've yet to have something we didn't like. Tonight my wife had pan fried noodles with veggies and ribs in black bean sauce. I had sizzling tender sirloin steak, borscht, fries and garlic bread. Everything was delicious and the place is sparkling clean. I took one star off for the screaming kids. In short, clean and modern decor, good food, nice staff. read more

Love Hong Kong style cafes! This place is relatively cheap and are known for their afternoon tea specials from 2-6pm. We order a bunch of small dishes ranging from churn fun in soy sauce and peanut butter dressing, beef tripe, curry fish balls, toast with butter and condense milk and fried chicken wings. Food wise wasn't the best that I've had but nonetheless it's a cute place on 86th st and surprisingly pretty packed during the afternoons. Reminds me of the food I would get on those street carts in chinatown. read more
It's 3:15 pm in the afternoon in Hong Kong, time for lunch at a Hong Kong cafe. That's what this place is, but it's located here Brooklyn. This place really reminds you of a typical Hong Kong Cafe. Almost feels like you're in Hong Kong. The food on the other hand are okay. 1. The Peanut Butter and Condensed milk toast was nicely toasted and had a sweet flavor from it. A good mix of peanut butter and condensed milk. 2. Cheong Fun was nice and warm when it came out, but nothing special when it came to taste. 3. Crispy Pig Intestine took some time to make, but it wasn't bad. Crispy, cool, and sweet taste. 4. Baked Portuguese Chicken over Rice was probably the best dish. Really good sweet coconut flavor in the chicken. Pipping hot when it came out. 5. Baked Seafood with white sauce over spaghetti was eh to me. I just don't think Chinese people can make decent pasta.
