Love, love, love this place! The service was great and everyone was super friendly. The food was also good. I don't eat food from India often, but I would definitely come back here when I can. I have to say I'm pretty sure all the plates on their menu is good. I ordered the chicken curry (mild) and it was SO amazing. Beware, their spicy level is pretty high. I can usually handle medium spice, but went one notch down to mild, and it was perfect. My friend got the highest spicy level, and it was way too hot for me. The owner is a delight and can be seen bustling around the restaurant: taking orders, bringing free goodies to the guests- like Lasso, Chia Tea, chips and chutney, etc...all while singing "Happy! The food was delicious. We were not happy about the bill at the end. The entree prices are a little higher than other places in the area, which is fine for good food. The problem is what they don't tell you is what else is costing you money: They bring appetizers, whatever you order, then mango drinks, ice cream, rice pudding, a hand wash with hot water and lime, and chai. It was all great, but we assumed since we never ordered any of it... that it was included in the inflated entree prices. Than you receive the bill for about $10 per person higher than what was expected. We would be FINE with paying that much, if we knew in advance. Or if they warned us before bringing it all to us. We would have turned away most of it as we were already full. Good food, poor job being transparent with prices. We will probably return for the good food and service, but next time we will be prepared for what we actually pay in the end. read more

I see a lot of reviews talking bad about the owner, those people just don't know and must not know how it is there. He is not rude like they say, if you can't take hyper, don't go. It is ridicoulos how sensitive people can be. Food is amazing!! I love the chicken korma, is definitely my favorite. Naan, excellent. For me the garlic naan is the best. Owner is great and always there, be ready to be full. The place is real nice. My daughter and I wanted Indian food, but, we don't know a lot about Indian food. We found Korma Sutra in Yelp. From the moment we walked in, we were treated with kindness, and they were helpful explaining the menu to us. All of the staff was super friendly. My daughter ordered the tikka chicken and I had a shrimp dish, I don't remember the name and they were both delicious. The staff kept bringing us out samples of different food and drinks, their kindness was some thing that I have never seen in a restaurant before. The location on 87th Parkway? Absolutely not!!!! The current location in Johnson County used to be a different Indian restaurant and when I was driving by, starving, the other day I was very pleased to see that the korma sutra that used to be at 105th & Metcalf might have moved northwest a tiny bit. 1) Korma Sutra at both Overland Park and Westport used to have an excellent buffet. I know that's difficult during Covid times so that alone doesn't warrant two stars. But for a nearly deserted restaurant at 2 PM all of the entrées on the menu are in the $17-20 range. that's incredibly steep for a lenexa strip mall. 2) i left after they put my place setting in front of me: A child size spoon fork knife and napkin and a piece of peppermint candy in a sealed cellophane package. I absolutely wont even consider paying "Plaza prices" and eating with a napkin the size of two pieces of toilet paper and a stamped plastic fork my wife and I used to go to the Westport location when I worked in a different part of town, it was really nice and though not cheap, a good value. This might be some of the worse service I've ever experienced. To start, everyone was walking around like zombies... filling water then not even placing it back in front of people, just shuffling off. At one point the woman overfilled the water and it spilled all over the table... she just mumbled sorry and shuffled off leaving it. Then the guy taking our order had a balloon taped to the side of his head and was literally throwing peoples napkins on their laps (everyone at the table found it hostile and rude). Then he began rapid fire pressing us on order.... Only to get it wrong when the food finally came. When the staff wasn't shuffling around like zombies, they were standing just a couple feet away staring right at us. Not even filling water or anything, just standing there in the middle of an empty room staring until we acknowledged them and they were able to shuffle back to the other side to stare from a further distance... Holy hell it was insane. And to top it off the place didn't even have real silverware! It was individual plastic... at a place charging 20 bucks a dish... The place was unclean and just so so sad. I could literally cry thinking about how sweet the management team treated me today. I had the hardest day of my life and wasn't able to eat any food because I have a 3 month old and a 16 month old child, and I walked into the restaurant and ordered some butter chicken on a whim. One of the staff told me to sit down and brought me appetizers and some chai tea on the house. It seriously made my whole day. I also open my back to find a mango lassi in addition to my dinner. The food was absolutely amazing and honestly some of the best food I have ever had in Kansas. 10000/10 recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to try it! We WILL be back!!!! read more

Authentic Indian food is always a good choice on a cold, snowy, rainy day! Or really any day! As soon as I entered Korma Sutra I was presented with the best hospitality/ restaurant equity I've ever had! I was assisted for my pick up order and while I waited I was given a little cup of something delicious (I'm not too familiar with Indian food names) I was also give a hot cup of tea. I was so surprised that this was how they greeted their pickup order customers! I'm not sure if this is something they do daily but I surely appreciated it. If you're new to Indian food like me you can't go wrong with the butter chicken. So much flavor and the sauce tastes amazing. This was paired with some white rice and I also got a order of the garlic naan bread. My belly was warmed and it felt like it also warmed my soul! First off, when we arrived it was prime dinner time. What seemed to be the two owners of the restaurant greeted us, to which we realized to be a yin and yang combo, one had a balloon and kazoo that he was using to guide guests to their table and to celebrate their experience at their establishment. The other half seemed to be the "business in the front" half to their duo. Their food was unbelievably good, but much more was the overall experience. It was our first time last night and we can very well say that it was dinner AND a show. To end it all, they had us wash our hands with lime and warm water while they caught the run-off in a bowl below. They thanked us again for dining with them with a small sample of their chai. By far my favorite Indian Restaurant in Kansas City. I have been going to Korma Sutra for years when they were over on Metcalf. They are now in Lenexa in a roomier space with pretty much the same decor and wall painting. The food is fantastic and they shower you with samples and free things to try whenever you go in. My favorite is the vegetarian dinner for 2- I am not a vegetarian but in my opinion, the vegetable options are often most tasty for Indian food. The saag paneer is spot on gorgeous with generous hunks of paneer and the vegetable meatballs are delightful- they are a combination of paneer cheese and nuts ( I think cashews) in a tomato cream sauce. I usually opt for the medium spice and have a mango lassi nearby if it gets too hot! This set dinner comes with pappadams and chutney, lentil soup, naan, rice and vegetable samosas. The veggie samosas are superior to the chicken samosas in my opinion because the potatoes absorb all the aromatic herbs and spices and are palate pleasing! My kids always opt for the butter chicken and it is never disappointing! It is so much food that I have enough left over for lunch for at least 2 days! I am often full by the time the main course comes around. I personally love the service. The owners are 2 very interesting men with a great sense of humor. One of them usually has a balloon ties to his ear and he jokes around with the kids and customers. They are upbeat and I love how genuinely happy they are to be sharing their secret recipes with their loyal customers. I have heard some people complain that they are "weird" but I love it! They are joyful and kind and generous to be bringing out items that you didn't order to sample to expand your tastes. They clearly love what they do. We've enjoyed several visits to the lunch buffet here in the past but takeouts have always been an issue. Our most recent experience was the last straw. We ordered Veggie Pakoras but got Veggie Korma instead - hence got charged more than an appetizer. Our naan was 2/3rds raw and doughy, and green chilis were wilted and old (as pictured). And to make matters worse, when I called back to voice my concern and ask for a refund for our less than ideal experience, the owner got on the line and gave me an excuse of how it will be an inconvenience for him to refund because he'll have to contact the credit card services/merchant, which could take a few days blah blah. His solution? "Just let us know next time you're in and we'll give you a discount." I think it's hilarious he thinks we'll be back after this shit show. read more

I just LOVE finding the little gems in a city. It's a little embarrassing when the gem is in your own city and has been there a while before you find it... But hey, better late than never, right? Part of my tardiness has to do with being new to Indian and Pakistani cuisine. However, now that I've found it, it's near the top of my list. Now to Korma Sutra: this place is amazing! I don't know much about Indian culture or custom (outside of Bollywood film and dance - which is Faaaantastic with a capital "F"), but I will say that I've rarely felt more as family as I did while at KS. We were waited on and served by no less than four people, all of whom were more than warm in their own regard. One gentleman was high energy and everything he served was "happy", as in "happy chicken", "happy lamb", or "happy juice". One lady was very motherly and took wonderful care of our kids - tucking the napkins in for them, serving them familiar cuisine, and speaking sweetly to them. The others were always there with water refills, cleaning the table, setting fresh dishes, and bringing fun, complimentary food by for us to try. Between a few small complimentary dishes to try, and the array of appetizers and entrees we ordered and shared, we ate as royalty, and felt as much, too, due to the above-and-beyond service. We tried no less than a dozen delectable food plates and drinks on our maiden voyage. Highlights were the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala (with "medium plus"-level of spice, which was perfect!), and chicken goa. We also really enjoyed the warm chai tea digestif. The location is awesome - tucked in the nape of the strip mall at College & Metcalf. The dining room is quaint and tight, but very adorably decorated, including the windows. One particular item of decor that made me feel ridiculously vacuous (at myself) was the long line of awards from numerous publications and authorities lining the south wall of the dining room, seeming a metaphorical frown upon me and how long it took to come try this incredible eatery!! Really enjoyed our lunch buffet here! The staff did bring more naan and fun ice cream around. They served amazing chai tea too. And the funny gentleman did entertain us with balloons and made my son laugh. It certainly is a family friendly small restaurant. I did think the tables are a little too close together, but the food buffet was amazing! In addition to the traditional buffet favorites (tandoori chicken, butter chicken, lentils, etc) the buffet also had shrimp, goat curry, vegetable mix, and the relishes. The Kheer was especially delicious! It was thick and creamy and my son devoured his, and still had room for more gulab jamun. We were so hungry I forgot to take pix, but I highly recommend this lunch buffet! We will come back again soon. The parking here is easy, which is one reason we would come here instead of Westport. We were given complimentary drinks, appetizers, and desserts for the kids. When we paid, she gave me some hot tea for the road.
