This is a very nice looking, large restaurant with an extensive food menu. I wish I knew more about what food was being offered, or if there was a menu with pictures. I will have to do my research and come back. We kept it safe this time with tikka masala and butter chicken, both of which were very good. We ordered it "mild" level, which I liked since it still had a little kick. The service was quick, we were able to order at the counter and then everything was brought out to us promptly.

Desi Chowrasta Indian Eatery is such a refreshing addition to the Indian food scene in Overland Park! It's honestly a one-stop shop for all because you'll find everything you crave, from South to North Indian dishes, Indo-Chinese favorites, and even chaat. They've got a desi-style bar, which just adds to the vibe. The first thing that caught my eye when I walked in was the atmosphere.. hand-painted walls celebrating India, a fun selfie mirror, and a cozy yet lively bar area. The decor feels inviting. The restaurant itself is spacious with high ceilings, plenty of seating, and big tables that can easily fit groups of 10 or more and is very clean. Pricing-wise, they've kept it competitive, similar to Desi Bites restaurant nearby. They have multiple projectors all over the place and they primarily play only South Indian music. Quick Tip - I hope they play music from all over India, especially Bollywood music or if they could play sports on some of the projectors and music on some other, then it would create a balanced atmosphere. The restaurant is located on 135th St. which is considered as a prime area of Overland Park and offers plenty of parking. I've visited a couple of times now and tried their grilled sandwich, bhel puri, Chinese wok with Hakka noodles, chili chicken, and of course, their masala chai. Every single dish hit the mark and gave me that 'BACK HOME' feeling which is very rare for me because not every Indian restaurant manages to do that! The clear winner for me was the masala chai because they make it without sugar and you can still enjoy the Cardamom Masala Tea. The service is pretty quick and the staff is really friendly, sweet and attentive. I would love to see them introduce some special offers or combos like a few other local restaurants do, but overall this place gets a solid 10 from me. I'm definitely going back soon to try more menu items especially the chicken mandi. Highly recommended!

My soft opening dine-in lunch experience was OK with room for improvement in service, spice level consistency and atmosphere. I ordered chicken tikka masala with pulao rice and medium spice level, but received paneer tikka masala with pulao rice and medium spice level. It was brought to my table 19 minutes after I ordered at the counter, where the service was polite, cheerful and inaccurate. The portion size was generous, the medium spice level sauce was very tasty, yet not too hot, and the rice was very good. I tried some of my buddy's Chowrastha special goat dish. He ordered a mild spice level but it was about as spicy as my medium dish. The goat dish was also packed with PLENTY of bones. My buddy also ordered a chai drink. It arrived in a surprisingly small cup - not cool. The dining area was clean and new with a mix of booths and tables and a bar, but the TVs weren't on and there was no background music. I noticed a rooftop bar, rooftop seating and a lower-level patio on the side of the restaurant. This location does not have a grocery store, so I wouldn't trust the first review, which highlights it.

Okay, so while I try to remain objective as much as possible, this review won't be one of those. I'd read way too many previous Yelp and Google reviews, looked at every photo, and went in with full skepticism. The pattern was familiar -- Texas-origin Indian franchises expanding to the Midwest often struggle with consistency -- so expectations were cautious. By the time we actually arrived, I'd already formed three opinions, changed two of them, and promised myself not to judge until the first bite. Easier said than done -- especially on an empty stomach powered by caffeine, nicotine, and mild existential dread. My mom and I went for lunch around 1 PM. Perfect timing: post-lunch rush, early enough for the staff to still have energy. The place wasn't busy, which gave us time to really take it in. And wow -- the ambiance is a stunner. Whimsical, bright, and artsy, blending Indian and Bollywood culture with a subtle ode to the Chiefs. There's a clever Guy Fieri quote (my hero), a biryani selfie wall, and a Post-it wall near Lord Ganpati that's both colorful and clever. You'll spot decorative bicycles, murals, and splashes of humor everywhere you look. Two large projectors and a big TV play Indian music videos that fill the space with energy. There's even a bar with beer on tap -- unusual for Indian spots, and a smart touch for KC -- giving it that local twist where community and friends can gather, share plates, and watch the Chiefs while sipping a cold one. The downstairs has comfortable booths, tables, and a small outdoor patio, while an upstairs mezzanine and rooftop bar area (currently closed off) looks like a seriously fun spot for warm evenings -- string lights, views, and all. Easily a 10/5 for design and vibe -- if I ever opened a restaurant, it'd look just like this. The menu, however, is massive -- 100+ items -- and the ordering system is a little confusing. You can order at the counter and get a number, or seat yourself and wait for a server. It's not obvious which makes more sense when it's quiet. At one point, a couple even mistook me for the host -- which, to be fair, I probably looked like I could've been. (They really could use a host!) Food: Chettinad Goat Curry (3.5/5): Flavorful, hearty, and aromatic but mostly bone, very little meat. I understand bone adds depth, but when it's all bone, it just feels misleading. Still, the curry itself was delicious and plentiful. The naan was crisp and reliable. Would order again, but I'd happily pay more for a boneless version. Chicken Tikka Frankie (3.5/5): I grew up in Mumbai, and Frankies are my favorite street food -- so I was skeptical. This was their own interpretation: made with a phulka roti instead of a chapati or tortilla (thank God, because that would've been inauthentic), missing the traditional egg-base layer, and served with potato chips (not fresh) and chipotle aioli (not authentic, but worked surprisingly well). Flavor-wise, it delivered -- smoky, tangy, satisfying -- but the portion felt kid-sized for $12.99. Jalapeño Chicken (6/5): The star of the meal. Finally, an Indo-Chinese dish done right. Not deep-fried, coated in a creamy, tangy sauce with thinly sliced jalapeños -- spicy, comforting, and perfect for leftovers. Everything came out quickly -- faster than fast food -- and the staff was kind and polite. You can grab bottled water at the counter and pack your own leftovers from the central area, which I personally liked. It adds to the laid-back, whimsical vibe. I truly want this place to succeed. It far exceeded my expectations after reading the reviews. The food and staff show genuine effort, and the décor alone deserves applause. For now, I'm giving it 5 stars (rounded up from 4.5) -- mostly because the ambiance, jalapeño chicken, and community feel carry it beyond its early growing pains.

We finally got to go to this place with a bunch of friends ordered a bunch of Indian snacks specialized Indian sandwich sandwiches, which is made with Indian cheese Indian sauces and Indian style some roadside snacks. I'm not surprised that they have done a great job. A few things that I felt was the rising was not made right a few things were already depressed for what it's takes to make. The service is outstanding. The people were extremely happy and they got everything on the table when we ordered stuff in fact when we didn't add the right things they went and grabbed them as well. I'm very impressed by the bar area. They have plenty of options and they have a lot of beers on tap. I usually don't find them in other bars, I'm extremely surprised by the scale. This restaurant is operated. It is easily a 150 to 200 seater. I see people moving in and out so much that I don't see this place is gonna go away anywhere. I'm sure they're gonna do great but they need to enable all the option all the items from the menu because when we went to order stuff, they were very limited on what they could serve better days to come, but I'm super excited for this restaurant in the Neighbourhood

Great price and amazing food ! Staff is also fantastic ! It's become our favorite place

There are many things that they can improve, starting with food and cleanliness. We ordered 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 5 butter naan. Quantity & taste of appetizers was great (Garlic chilli paneer & jalapeño chicken) Entrees were opposite (malai methi paneer & dhaba style chicken) quantity, taste not good. Butter naan's could have more butter & soft. Naan's had black burnt spots stuck to it (leftover from the oven) It was very crowded & they told us they cannot provide service, it was stand in line--order food--pay upfront--get token number--find table--they will call the number as food gets ready. Restroom & table needs cleaning.

Very good food and a very youthful and festive atmosphere! Functions more like casual fast food though the dishes are delicious and well-crafted. Had the jalapeño chicken, Malabar chicken curry, chicken biryani, chili momos, and Szechuan noodles. A great place if you want a more informal atmosphere!

Menu: Staffs are incredibly kind here & you can take all your time in ordering your food because the menu offers a lot of good combo options. They have chaat, appetizers, entree & combo options (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian) My personal favorite is 2 entree combo which comes with jeera rice & bread. Bread can be a plain roti or paratha or naan or garlic/butter naan. You can also request Stuffed parathas for an up charge. What we ordered: - Vada Pav - 2 entree combo plate (Moong dal & Butter paneer) - Mango Lassi Both Moong dal & Butter paneer was served hot - perfect for a cozy/cold night. Spice & masala level was just perfect and I personally don't prefer too much overdose of color or masala in my butter paneer which messes up my gut. Vada pav was great too with a good amount of green sauce/paste (spicy & tangy) Just the perfect way to end the dinner with freshly made mango lassi. :)) Hopefully, will get back again to check out non-vegetarian entree options.
