Where do I even start? One of the things Kansas City really lacks, is good Indian food. I feel like I have finally found The Spot to go! I am so glad that we moved down the street from here. It is so convenient to be able to order online and pick up affordable and delicious Indian food. My boyfriend and I are not super creative, so we order the tikka masala and butter chicken, but we have added some appetizers as well. The only thing I am not the biggest fan of is their naan. I liked the polite, professional and efficient staff, the reasonable bowl prices, the good portions and the tasty food. My order filled a sizable 8" x 2" bowl with plenty of premium white chicken chunks, a creamy sauce and a variety of nicely seasoned veggies. The menu offered custom bowls, Indian wraps, Indian street food, chaats and signature dishes. It included chicken, lamb, salmon, paneer and lentil options. I'm a big fan of balanced meals, so I was happy to see the sautéed vegetables, lentils and salads. Brand new restaurant review here. My friend is Indian and has spent a lot of time in India. she can tell me first hand this is authentic Indian street food. I had a mango chicken dish and it had the right amount of spice level to it. This is not fast food, they took a while to prepare our meal but it was well worth it. I love their original restaurant, Raj Mahal so I had high expectations and they did not disappoint with their bold flavors and kind staff. Since it was our first time here, we took some time reviewing their menu and the worker was super kind, explaining their menu and options for their bowls. I wanted something spicy so I went with their spicy vindaloo with a protein choice of lamb. I have a pretty high heat tolerance and I hate it when restaurants say their food is spicy when it's not. This was NOT the case. The spicy vindaloo was deliciously spicy with bold flavor and full of tender, juicy lamb. The vegetables was a bit overcooked for my taste and had a little too many potatoes but still yummy. The side salad was more like a cold slaw but it complemented the curry with a refreshing touch. My husband enjoyed his butter chicken as well. Overall, the food and experience was great. Highly recommended! read more

Went here with my parents tonight. It's an order at the counter, have the food delivered to your seat place. I got the express bowl 1 with the butter chicken. My mom got the express bowl 2 with tikka paneer. My dad got the lamb curry. We also got naan (of course). I forgot to take pics because I dove right in. We all loved our food. The butter chicken was VERY tomato-y. Definitely different than other butter chicken around town but it was delicious and since it seemed to have less cream than other butter chickens, was probably better for me. Definitely a casual place to visit but it's VERY clean and the food was very fresh. I can't recommend enough ask I'm looking forward to returning! It's across from JCCC. read more

Not too far from my house so I thought I'd give it a try! The environment of this place is very clean and has a nice atmosphere to it. While I didn't enjoy my chicken tikka masala, the samosas I ordered were very good. The chicken tikka just tasted a bit watery and bland. Didn't have the flavor I was hoping and it tasted like the flavor of the curry didn't permeate the chicken so it just tasted a bit off to me. Almost like the chicken was put in it last minute maybe? I probably won't order that again but I think I'll still try Raj Express again and order something different next time. read more

Wow! When you first walk in to this place the aroma is on point! It gets you hungry right away. After looking at the menu for a few minutes I asked the nice gentleman what his favorite was and I said ok pick out whatever you want me to try because it's my first time here and it all looks good. He did just that and it was so good, tasted fresh and the Naan was soft and amazing. I had the Tikka Masala Chicken, rice, roasted vegetables, 5-way Lentils and Plain Naan. Modern and walk through service, but still fairly pricey for "fast food." It actually took awhile to get our food, even though we were the only people there. The food itself was... ehhh. I got the Chicken Tikka Masala and it was almost too spicy to eat, yet it still tasted like it was missing something. It just wasn't well balanced. Hubby got the Spicy Vindaloo and it definitely hit the heat spot for him with ultra spicy. But neither of us were too impressed overall. I had read the good reviews so I stopped by the other day to try it out. It was kind of annoying. They had taken the wraps out of circulation, even though they are still on the menu in house and online. They do not do bowls without sauce/on the side because all the meats are precooked in them. There was no way to sample anything or try a smaller version of it. I was the only one there and felt like the guy was trying to get me to close the deal like a car salesman. I'm sure if you love all Indian food and you're experienced with this restaurant so you know what you want, it's great. But as a new person it's awkward and hard to tell. Better to eat off your friend's plate a couple times until you figure out what to go for. read more

My husband and I were looking forward to the express Indian food concept and came in on opening day around 6:15. We had the express bowls with a base (rice for us), a protein (chicken), and a curry--vindaloo for him, tikka masala for me--and sautéed veggies. We also shared an order of veggie samosas. The portions were generous; the samosas, being fresh, were the best part of the meal and very flavorful. Our chicken and veggies were dry (perhaps a lid over that part of the steamers would help). It seems like a family affair--we saw several kiddos running in and out of the kitchen. Because it was opening night, we were hoping for a little more fanfare--maybe there were some behind-the-scenes snags. We'll try it again before we cross it off the list but I hope we can note an improvement on our next visit. read more
