This place is a gem. While it's not too hard to find good Indian food in the area, what sets this place apart is the owner's genuine gift of hospitality. If you're like me and would pick a handmade piece of pottery over a mug from Target, this is probably a place you need to try at least once. This is a place where you can see the heart and warmth and personality of the people who run it, and that's so refreshing in a day and age where everything else seems to be a chain. This restaurant is a true dining experience. This was my first time trying Indian food, so although I cannot speak to the authenticity and quality of the food - I will share my opinions. First, the chai is delicious. It was warm and very tasty. Staff brought out a variety of appetizers which were all good and set the standard for the meal. I ordered the chicken tikka saag and enjoyed the meal. I enjoyed the desserts, a mango ice cream and sweet bread. After dinner, they assisted us with washing our hands at the table to clean off the spiciness from the meal. Two other words: apple juice. Service was attentive, fun, and personalized. Used to be one of our favorite Indian restaurants in all of KC, but things have changed dramatically. Our group of 5 ordered a variety of popular dishes and appetizers and we were ALL rather shocked at the low quality ingredients and flavors. All our various entrees were chicken, and the meat was consistently dark and tough. The sauces tasted store-bought, and not even the 'good' ones. We haven't been here in a few years but we were there for lunch today and Mr Singh is still as personable and funny as ever. The food is still incredible. Onion naan and saag paneer and chicken tika masala along with basmati rice and too much to finish. No buffet but way better than the Indian buffets in the area. read more

This is IT!! Wow!! Reddit said this was the best Indian food in KC. We were NOT disappointed!!! The staff here is amazing! They are SO friendly and kind. They showered us with attention and little treats. My wife and I ordered the mint naan and she got the tandoori chicken which she enjoyed very much. I got the Chicken Goa Curry at the suggestion of the owner. She was very right. It was magnificent!! This is a small family place in OP. Everyone was working on this July evening: Mom, Dad, daughter, sons...so cool. My wife is normally very sensitive to spice. She ordered hers mild and even had a few bites of my medium dish. Korma Sutra very unexpectedly became one of my very favorite Indian restaurants in KC. It's nestled in a little Lenexa strip mall and appears very unassuming. I'd heard great things but didn't get a chance to go until this past year. When you walk in it's not a whole lot to look at. Pretty standard fair. However, when you get seated that's when the party really starts! The ownership is very inviting and personable. They offer you fun treats throughout your meal at no cost (at least the time I went, but I've heard this wasn't an isolated experience) and the food itself is great. I got the fish tikka masala and it was amazing. The garlic naan is TO DIE FOR as well. I dare say this is my favorite Indian restaurant in KC! Excited to go back. read more

Food and service was excellent. Portions a bit small for the price. I guess you come for the show from the owner. He gives you a lot of little treats and a small glass of Chai tea. Later he asks if you'd like more without telling you there's a charge. My butter chicken dish and naan was supposed to be $25. It jumped to $37. I confronted him and said why so much. He said for the Chai tea. He offered to take it off. But I already drank it. Just not coming back. Not a fan of deceptive marketing. read more

I dined alone during a business trip to the area. I was greeted as I entered and offered a seat near the window. The ambiance of the restaurant is light-hearted and all of the staff are working with a sense of urgency. It took a few minutes for anyone to greet me after I was seated, but when they did, they brought an attractive menu with a full selection of items. I chose the Korma Sutra Biryani with Naan bread and a Chai. The Chai came immediately along with a sample of Mango Chutney with Pompadam, which was a nice Starter. The Biryani was flavorful and had medium spice and it was enough for 3-4 people. She offered to bring me some Raitta, which I gladly accepted. An older man brought me a sample of the Chicken Tikka Marsala which had a very nice flavor and I would order it next time. At the end of my meal, she offered me a Mango Lasse, which was sweet, but not salty as I expected, so just a nice dessert drink. I enjoyed my solo dining experience and will return when I visit Kansas City again. read more

What an awesome and friendly spot for some of the best Indian food I've had in Kansas City! My wife and I went here on a random night where we did not want to cook and were craving some good butter chicken and Korma Sutra did not disappoint! We really loved the Tandoori Chicken and Butter Chicken, But the hospitality is the one key thing to note, it's like you're getting welcomed into the family or seeing family after a long time! They served us mango lassi and the most amazing chai tea and rice pudding I've ever had that warmed my soul and let us wash our hands with limes and fresh warm water. Honestly, we eat here often. Live this place. The food is always amazing and you get a lot. The owner is always dancing around making people laugh. Sometimes they offer up extra dishes for you to try. I've waddled out more times than I want to admit. Order up a Mango Lasse. It appears to be a family run business, an extended family run business as the ages of the staff indicate three generations, and change periodically. I had the makhani masala awhile back, the sauce was rich, however I felt the texture was a bit off and maybe not quite so flavorful. I also had the garlic naan which was not bad. I think maybe an off night for the kitchen though. I've heard such great things about Korma Sutra so I was surprised my experience did not align with others. Our drinks were 3.99 - charged us more for them, uncharged the chai (that we weren't even going to order), and the servers were not very nice and a bit pushy. As an Indian, I can assure you that Indian food does not taste as bad as the food they serve here. They don't even cook their food properly and seems like it is days old and was microwaved and served. The waiter also seems to have no manners or social skills. Very unprofessional. Gave me my dish without the sauce, and then when I was done eating gave me the sauce. The manager also was so obnoxiously loud and was wearing a balloon on his ear. Awesome dining experience. The service is one of a kind - throughout our meal they brought different things to sample for free; from mango lassis, to chai tea, rice pudding, and more!! It is a little pricey (with the tikka saag and naan it was $27) so I wouldn't recommend going if you're wanting cheaper Indian food, but other than that everything was great. read more

Great traditional Indian food. If you like spicy this is the place for you. The Chia tea was so light and delicious I would come just for that. Service was great when I had a problem with a dish the owner came and spoke with me and recommended dishes he likes for me to try. I had Goat and Lamb curry mild. The best Indian food in the city, and I don't just mean Lenexa. Absolutely delish! Make sure you have empty hands upon entering the restaurant to pick up carryout because while you wait you will be handed sample after sample. You will also likely walk away with a carryout drink in a styrofoam cup. I definitely prefer getting take away food to dining in. My wife and I just moved to the Lenexa area and were looking for a good Indian Restaurant. We found it at Korma Sutra. The food was excellent, and the service was fabulous. We were blessed with many free add-ons, like a separate side of Butter Chicken (no charge) so I could try it with some heat (my wife like it very mild), rice pudding, some kind of ice cream and they even had a hand washing at our table! Absolutely horrid takeout experience on multiple occasions. Currently writing this review as I wait in the restaurant. I was quoted 30 minutes for food, it's been 1 hour and still no food. I don't care how busy you are, to produce 3 items and a couple of Naans doesn't take that long. We ordered the non-vegetarian dinner for two. It was wonderful and plenty of delicious food starting with crisps and curry,followed by soup and ground chicken stuffed pastry, then the delicious main dishes, one lamb dish and one chicken dish served with rice. The food was terrific as was the staff. I was treated like a prince. For religious purposes, I don't eat any of the alliums (onions, garlic, etc.). I mentioned this to my server and she was very accommodating. There wasn't even a moment hesitation about whether they could make my food to my preferences. I had the mushroom mattar makhani, mint naan, and mango lassi. The entrée and the naan were hot when they were brought to the table. Both were very flavorful. the makhani was wonderfully spiced. The lassi was cool and refreshing as it should be. My only complaint is that I was racially profiled! I am a Caucasian male. When the server took my order, she asked me if I wanted my food, mild or medium. I was not even given the option of spicy. (there's a Thai restaurant I go to in my hometown. I usually get the food, medium, but every now and again when I'm feeling reckless, I will tell them to make the food spicy, but for an American, not for an Asian) I'm only in town for two nights and I plan on returning to Korma Sutra for dinner tomorrow night. read more
