The restaurant in its current state is a little hectic, crazy and pretty disorganized, but that aside the food is fantastic. I came in on a Saturday night around 7 and the restaurant was very busy. It took about 20-25 minutes being sat down, and another 20 minutes for someone to take our food order. It seemed that there were only about 2-3 people taking care of everything so that would probably be the reason for the slow service. The food was perfectly spiced. I always enjoy the veggie pakoras (not pictured) with my meal and this time they had a good kick to it. The mango lassi was pretty good, no complaints. The butter chicken is the best and the best i've ever had. Now, if you'd like to try this place out, don't feel obligated to eat in. I've ordered carry out from here several times and it's just as good ((and you get to avoid the crowd)). Will always continue to come back here. Only reason I didn't rate 5 stars is because of the slower service. I spent about 2.5 hours total here this time. read more

Indian Food isn't inexpensive, especially if you order like I do, which is effectively one of each. It's delicious, and I've been coming here for a long while. I've loved everything we've ordered for take out. Never eaten there, but as the one picking the food up, I really enjoy the warmth I revive when I walk in the door and get greeted with a cup of food with delicious fried food on top, and sometimes a bit of chai or other happy drink. Was craving some home cooked India food the other night and this place did not disappoint. Everything from the drinks to the food was top tier quality and delicious. You start off with a crispy chip of some sort with an Indian style salsa, the flavor was incredible I don't even know how to describe it. I order a mango lassi as my drink, it was so creamy and helped out with containing the spice level for my entree. We were able to share one entree and a side of garlic onion naan and leave with leftovers still. We order Chicken Korma medium spice level and boy was it SPICY!! I would order mild next time because I almost couldn't handle it. When we were checking out they brought out complementary chia tea, it was some of the best chia tea I've ever had. The service was a little pushing when ordering but other than that it was a great experience and to be fair we were one of three groups at the restaurant at the time. Visited early on a Friday night: The owner excitedly greeted us as usual, and the entire service was prompt, and friendly. The entrées were extremely flavorful and compete with the top Indian joints in the metro. The cheerful owner gives this spot a special character unlike anywhere else Ive eaten. It's been I don't know how long since I wrote a review. A lot has changed in my life including my home state. It's taken a while for me to find a business that excited me enough to break me out of my Yelp fast but it finally happened. FPO and I were running errands and on 87th Street. We'd seen Korma Sutra on several occasions because there's a dog groomer in the area and nifty little diner we sometimes go to. We always agreed it looked like a nice place that we'd like to try some day. Well, someday was yesterday. Or, more accurately last evening. We stopped in around 5 pm for an early dinner. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and asked if we preferred a table or booth. The booths looked more "social distance" friendly (a big thing these days) so that's what we picked. Being Indian food newbies it took us a while to make our picks. But we never felt rushed. In fact, people kept stopping to check on us and put food on the table. The first was a small sampler of Onion Bhaji, Papadam, and something that reminded me of mango chutney. FPO ordered a Taj Mahal beer. Again, being a newbie I didn't know why they asked how many glasses we wanted until I saw the size of the beer. Apparently, you can get two good-sized glasses out of one bottle. Not knowing what we were eating we accidentally ordered Onion Bhaji as our appetizer. A happy mistake because it was really tasty. (So was the Papadam and chutney.) Indian food is best eaten family style so FPO and I each picked a main dish (Shrimp Tikka Masala for me and Lamb Saag for FPO). Both dishes come with white Basmati Rice. We also ordered an Onion and Garlic Naan. Everything was super tasty! The seasoning was flavorful without being over powering. And the portions were very generous. BTW, we're both still wimpy with Indian spices and picked the mild versions but you can go spicy if you're a pro. Everyone there was very nice, polite, and attentive. One older gentleman was also super funny. A coworker of his substituted funny for crazy but still, he was sweet and very entertaining. He wore a balloon over his right ear but in Kansas, unlike the flower on the right ear in Hawaii apparently it didn't mean he was available. Cultural differences. He also had a party horn, noise maker, and gave out Korma Sutra branded balloons to people (not inflated). We were so stuffed about halfway through our meal but gamely kept try to keep eating. Eventually though, we were ready for boxes. But the food kept coming. First someone dropped off a small Mango Lassi, which is addicting. Next it was Badam Kheer (rice pudding that I actually liked), then two Chai Teas showed up on our table. Our bill was a little over $70 which, although right in range for a date night, was still a bit lower than I was expecting. We are absolutely going back and already telling our family and friends to go check them out. Totally worth it! read more

Ordered a chicken korma one afternoon and at first I thought their meal was a little bit overpriced. However, when I stood to wait for my takeout the woman at the front was so nice and gave me an appetizer in a cup for me while I was waiting (I'm not sure if this was even part of the meal). She also gave me a cup of chai tea on top of the mango lassi which I think was also thrown in for free with my order. The food was delicious and enough for me to split into two meals. Very nice staff and the man at the front (I think he is the manager) has a good sense of humor and welcomed everyone who came in. I wish I just didn't live so far away from here! read more

Walked in here immediately with greetings from the owner. The owner was smiling and super happy to be serving us. I ordered butter chicken and VERY generous portions. I got the mango lassi and it was creamy heaven. The owner and workers had party hats on and were blowing these noise things. We got complimentary rice pudding which was delicious. A lunch visit with work colleagues did not disappoint. The servers were very attentive and polite, and the cook came out to visit with customers. There were half dozen other tables occupied including what looked like other Indian nationals - always a good sign. I had the Goan chicken with basmati rice and gluten green garlic naan. Absolutely delicious with the right blend of taste and spice. Colleagues had the chicken tikka and the kabab - and they all liked. I chose the chai for drink, which was replenished often. The staff came with free rice pudding and yoghurt drink. Very welcome and appreciated. The bill at the end was not extortionate but fair. We've had takeout & dined in at Korma Sutra during Covid, and both experiences were great. They take their safety measures very seriously- the staff is all in masks, patrons are required to wear masks upon entering, there is plenty of hand sanitizer available, tables are extra spaced out, and plastic utensils are offered. The food is soooo wonderful. I love seeing the older gentleman who owns the restaurant bopping around greeting people and taking orders and offering suggestions. Excellent service, maybe too over the top at times. Although it does get comedic asking every customer, "How many? 6? 7?" Even though most people that evening were in groups of two...until the group of 6 did show up. So, higher stars for the service and hospitality, especially the hand wash at the table along with the end of meal treats and chai. The food itself was decent. Had a goat vindaloo and it was much runnier than I am used to. Far too much tomato sauce, and not chunky with caramelized onions, tomato chunks and other ingredients as the places do around me in the suburbs of Chicago. It was basically spiced tomato sauce with chunks of goat. The goat itself was not gamey and was pretty good. They also had a gluten-free "naan", which I was surprised about. I have celiac, and am quite sensitive to wheat flour. To my shock, they laid the GF naan right on top of the regular naan. They also have GF pakoras (I think they were) and papadum that they bring at the beginning of the meal with chutney. The pakoras' ingredients could be gluten-free, but they deep fry in the same oil as other flour prepared foods. I should've been more proactive to avoid the nighttime hives from gluten. Service a 5, food maybe a 3. I would be willing to go back and try some other dishes. read more

We had the most amazing culinary experience here. The staff was so attentive and explained to us the traditional way to eat of the dishes we chose based on their recommendations. Due to Covid-19, there's dining inside with some restrictions with social distance and there's no buffet style. Decided to come here with my boyfriend to tried some new Indian spot and to satisfied our cravings. We got the non vegetarian dinner and holy moly, it's a lot of food. We didn't know what to order and that seems like a good choice for beginners. Everything came out fresh and hot. My favorite was the Mango Lassi and the Garlic Naan. Yummy! I was really bummed that Korma Sutra did not live up to the four 4 review as others have rated. As someone who is searching for an Indian Restaurant in Kansas, I saw the 600 reviews here and felt like this could be my "goto" spot for yummy tandoori chicken and creamy chicken tikka. I ordered a chicken tikka masala dish with garlic naan. When I order chicken tikka masala, I expect a creamy chicken curry with alot of flavor but have a unique taste I can figure out. with the dish here, I tasted alot of heavy tomato that through me off. I just could not get passed it and it ruined my meal. THe garlic nann lacked taste and was kind of bleh overall. Being as this place is a buffet style lunch place, everything tasted pre-made/ sitting in the back just staying barely warm. I would have given this place a 3 but the owner was very strange and overall rude. He did not give a warm environment I would want when getting dinner. No customer service skill and it just felt awkward. I would never go back and this was a real bummer. read more

My thoughts on Korma Sutra at 87th st. I've waited for some time to post a review for this place because imho you should never judge a place off of one meal unless the experience is so horrible you never want to go back. This is just simply not the case with KS hence the 5stars. The wife and I have made it through a good portion of the menu on our visits and so far haven't had a bad dish. The portions are generous and the flavors have ranged from their simple and very spicy vindaloo(not for beginners) to incredibly complex Korma with multiple flavors present. The Lamb Korma is my personal favorite and the garlic naan is the bomb. The restaurant is located in an older strip mall type building near 87th and Quivira with ample parking. The interior is colorful and spacious. It's not as intimate as their old Westport location but it's nice. The service has been relatively fast and excellent each time we have gone. Singh has been our server each time and he is a bona fide hoot! There's one caveat that you might consider. Neither my wife or I have ever been to India so I cannot vouch for authenticity. However, we have had Indian food in England, Canada and all over the states. What I can tell you is; out of all of the Indian restaurants we have been to KS has been the best! read more
