We just moved to the area and were craving some Thai food. Based on the Yelp reviews, we thought we would give this place a try. The space is clean and inviting, and you can see into the kitchen, which also looks clean. Our server was attentive and friendly. We started with the soft spring roll appetizer, which stated it had chicken. We bit into one and discovered no chicken, so we let our server know when our server came over. She then assured us it contained chicken, but just very little, which then my husband showed her the contents inside his and asked, Can you show me where the chicken is? It was a bit awkward because she still insisted it was there, so we just told her, Thanks, now we know what to expect and won't be ordering that again. It was a little unsettling paying a higher price for something with meat and not having any meat, so needless to say, we won't be ordering those again if we return. The entire exchange was just bizarre. Huband got the Pad Thai, and I ordered the Payaya salad with medium spice and the Tiger Cry Beef appetizer. All I can say is never again. I should have gone to Thai Spice like I usually do. I ordered Thai fried Rice with chicken and was charged $8 for small tiny strips of chicken. I loathe sweet curries, the ones where they put a ton of sugar in with the coconut milk (which has enough sweetness on its own). I asked the very cute and tiny waitress if they add sugar to their green curry and she assured me they add no sugar, the curry was not sweet. The curry arrived sweeter than coconut pudding and Thai iced tea. It could have been a good experience if I had ordered some else or the curry was actually not saccharin sweet and inedible. They have a good Thai spice rack. The drive thru (was a bank before) had a charming single blooming sunflower growing out of a crack in the concrete. My family and I love coming here whether for lunch or dinner, it's our go to when we can't decide what to eat. You don't need a reservation. It's nice and casual so no need to dress up if you don't want to. The place is always clean. The staff are very kind and professional. Food is always delicious, I'm part Thai so I know what good Thai food is. I noticed price has gone up, but of course you can expect that anywhere you go now. Medium temp. Crab Rangoon, soft spring rolls, and summer rolls were the apps. I can't say much about the service. I mean. I ordered they were friendly. But it was super quick so let me recant. Service was decent. I'd barely sat down for the wait and it was done. It was very clean and elegant in the dining room. Which was maybe the justification for the prices which seemed high. Maybe I'm stuck in the past but sixty for three apps and an entree seemed like a lot. The food was okay. The Rangoon was the winner. Crispy yet light. I'm addicted to those soft spring rolls. Yet, here they were just average. Maybe the internal components weren't as fresh. They had a pre made yesterday feel. Same thing with the Summer Rolls. Basically the same but a little harder. Excellent food and service in a nice atmosphere. We were traveling through Kansas City and found Thai Kitchen looking for a restaurant on Yelp. It's located in the corner of a small strip center, which may not normally be associated with a nice atmosphere, but Thai Kitchen is on a corner with lots of windows and a view to the surrounding woods. The decorand atmosphere were very nice. Our waiter was very friendly and prompt. Here's what we ordered. Appetizer - Thai Kitchen Sampler - The fresh spring rolls, crispy egg rolls and rangoon were all excellent. I normally think the crispy egg rolls are too fried and oily but these were perfect, very light and crisp. Spring rolls and rangoon were also very good. My wife and I split this. Entree - Massman Curry, medium spice level. Again, very good. The spice was just right for us though the waitress said it's too spicy for alot of people. It was a very big bowl that was plenty for my wife and me. Dessert - My wife ordered green tea ice cream and I ordered the taro ice cream, at the server's recommendation. The taro was amazing, very creamy, not too sweet, and beautifully bright purple. My wife liked the green tea, also. The food was reasonably priced. With two glasses of wine and tip, we spent about $75 for very good food and great service. Not sure when we'll be back through KC but we'd definitely go to Thai Kitchen, again. read more
