Over the weekend we were in the mood for Indian food so ordered DoorDash from India Palace. We'd never had this spot before as we typically order from Rucci, but I wanted to give a new place a try and honestly I'm glad we did as this one was a hit! We ordered chicken tikki masala, garlic naan, lamb samosas, and tandoori chicken. The first thing I want to note is that our total was around $50 including delivery and tip, which for two entrees, an appetizer, and a side I think is pretty decent these days. The naan was an exceptional deal - I think coming in at under $4 an order. Since it was so cheap I wasn't sure how much to expect so I got a few and it was more than enough - you probably only need one to share if you are on the fence. Now let's get to the food: the samosas were great. I've been on the hunt for some carry out samosas nearby and these fit the bill. They also came with some fun sauces so I'll for sure be ordering them again. The chicken tikki masala was actually spicy at a medium heat which was a fun surprise. Unlike our local thai spots that tend to go really hot with medium most Indian places we go to give us a super mild (even at medium spice) tikki masala so I enjoyed having some real flavor and heat! The naan was great, but tasted like all garlic naan (which is not a bad thing), the tandoori chicken was good but I thought a bit dry, hence the 4/5 stars. What a great introduction to Indian dishes I don't know! Met a friend here for lunch during the week. I decided to do the buffet. I didn't really eat $17.95+tax worth of food. But I got a wide selection of dishes, so that makes it worth it to me. I really liked the tandoori chicken and tikka masala. I'd probably rate this a 4, but what makes it an additional star for me is the warm chai! I absolutely loved the big warm self serve carafe of chai latte. It was delicious! Indian cuisine is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. The staff is friendly and helpful with describing dishes I am not familiar with. We tried the cheese naan this time...it was good, not getting much cheese feel in it, but I may be comparing it to a pizza place for that. It tasted very good either way, I think I would go with the garlic naan next time for sure. It has the feel of an up scale restaurant, but it is casual in nature. This was our second stop here at India place. I am just now beginning to experiment with Indian food. I had the lamb, biryani, rice, golden, raisins, almonds, and lamb. The the few bites that had the raisins in it were my favorite. The spice is just the right for those who want a little bit of spice, but not too much heat. If I'm not mistaken, this now-iconic restaurant was one of the first of its kind in the metro. (It sort of set the precedent for other Indian eateries to follow in KC.) While they lost their luster/allure for me a few years back during the pandemic, I decided to give them another try over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised. They've clearly stepped up their service AND culinary game. Even though they were busy-ish, our flavorful food arrived in no time at all. The no-fuss/no-muss menu is filled with plenty of Northern Indian-centric dishes--the usual, standard eats. While there's nary a weird dish on the menu that elicited a "oh-I-have-to-try-that" response, it's all safe, pedestrian fare. (Also, don't expect much in the way of Indian street food/small plates. I don't even think I spied one chaat dish on the menu.) If you're looking for good, casual, piping-hot Indian grub, India Palace remains the original in the city. And, for me, it's perfectly located just off I-35 & 87th, which is ideal if I wanna grab carryout. read more

These spots should at least offer lunch prices if this is to be the norm, but my gut tells me they'd rather charge $$$ for individual curries and have seen better profits because of it. My girlfriend loved the malai kofta. Beyond that I must point out a few things that could be improved (I'd like to see this place beat Swagat). The naan is just too dense. The aloo naan is too dense and oily. In the condiment platter, the gajar is excellent! But no matter how I try to justify it, the raita is just too watery. The mint chutney, in that small plastic container, had a big ol' onion stem left inside at the bottom!! Come on, we need better quality control. I'm pretty sure I've had better tamarind chutney. And I just didn't care for the mango chutney. I'm sorry if I got some of the ingredients wrong. But I've had a lot of Indian food across the country to compare with. Visiting at noon on a Friday, we were promptly greeted and shown a table. We both ordered Butter chicken today-one mild and one medium. Both spice levels seemed spot-on. There is no buffet. We felt that service was attentive, but that the entrée sauce was thinner than Ive had in any other Indian restaurant that Ive been to. It was also a few dollars cheaper than most. One of the best Indian restaurants in the Overland Park area, and one of the few that I know of. Everything is good here. I am obsessed with the masala chai tea. I love drinking that and the free refills. I always get a chicken tikka masala here and it has always come out perfectly. The naan breads are also good here with different flavor options. Definitely a lunch or dinner staple restaurant for OP. And I always have enough for leftovers! read more

Chickens can be heavy. I had the chicken curry. It was yum. While it isn't the best Indian food I've ever had in my life, it's definitely tasty and juicy and creamy, and five star worthy. Prices are good and service is lovely, and they actually make pretty good British-Indian style curries. Like I said, I wouldn't go out of my way to have this again when Kansas City has a lot of other good food, but when somebody wants Indian in Kansas City, I would absolutely send them directly here because I know it's very very good. I handed Eric R. my yelp bookmark list late on Friday night, and let him look at all of the nearby Indian options. One was about to close, so out of the three others, he chose India Palace. We recognized the area as it is across the street from ABC Cafe, one of our favorite places for dim sum. We arrived after 9, and the restaurant closes at 10, so we did indeed shut this place down! As many yelp reviews suggested, we were greeted by everyone working in the restaurant, and all of the staff was so friendly. The menu is enormous, but Eric R. and I decided in order to try a lot of stuff, we should do the Palace Dinner for 2. However, Eric R. loves saag paneer so he wanted to try some. We ordered the Palace Dinner for 2 and then Eric R. asked for a "side of saag paneer" which ended up being a half order and he was charged for half of the cost, which was really cool since that is not on the menu that way. We were given pappadums to start which were crispy and delicious, but needed some chutneys. The chutneys came after we ate them, accompanying our veggie samosas. Eric R. really liked the tamarind and I liked the coriander. We also had tomato chutney and raita. We also had a bowl of vegetable soup, which came out hot and with a lot of veggies. Then, a bowl of rice emerged with the dishes rogan josh (lamb with yogurt and nuts) and chicken tikka masala. Both were very delicious, but I especially liked the chicken tikka masala. Eric R. loves fajitas, so imagine his delight when the tandoori chicken arrived on a sizzling plate surrounded by onions and a lemon. A fresh batch of naan cut into eight pieces arrived at the table too. We clearly had enough food for at least two meals each! The combination of all of the flavors was great, and we were quickly filling up. I reminded Eric R. that our dinner included dessert! We we offered a choice between brown sugar dumplings and rice pudding, and were able to order one of each. We demolished these, and they were very good. As the restaurant was closing, we asked for to go boxes. The staff wrapped our naan in a way to prevent it from getting wet, in parchment paper and then foil. We asked for cups to take the raita and chutneys. Then we mentioned we were staying in a hotel, so they gave us thick paper plates and lots of plasticware to take with us in a separate bag, which was awesome! After having the leftovers, I can definitely say the food was delicious and that I would return to try some of the other menu items. Went in for the weekend lunch buffet and to be frank I wasn't much pleased after having read all the good reviews and ravings. The most look forward item for anyone in the Indian cuisine would be Biriyani which I didn't find in the buffet but instead they had plain ghee rice. Craving Indian cuisine in the heart of Overland Park, KS lead me to come here on a recent Friday evening on November 2018. It was great to hang out with a BFF of mine and her husband that evening. Indian cuisine has always been a favorite of mine and usually have it as often as I can. Only caveat is that it is usually price prohibitive, where entrees can range from $14+ depending on what you get. And so, it was appropriate for me to come here to Overland Park, KS for a special occasion. Upon arrival on a Friday evening around 8pm, it was unusually empty. I'm guessing local peeps like to dine earlier and we just missed the dining rush. With that said, we were greeted by the host and was promptly seated at a booth. The restaurant itself was decorated nicely and the ambiance was deliciously perfect. I do like the quiet and casual atmosphere while we dined. We probably spent about an hour here from start to finish before heading out. Each of us ordered a form of lamb Indian curry / masala, which looked fantastic. I got the lamb curry medium spicy with naan. It was the perfect meal and the perfect company to kick start my weekend adventures in Kansas City. The overall experience here at Indian Place Indian restaurant was as smooth and great as you can get. The service was good and friendly, while professional too. Indian Place Indian restaurant is located at 9918 W 87th Avenue in the heart of Overland Park, KS. They accept major credit cards, which is always a good thing for us folks who live the plastic lifestyle - as well as cash too. Not sure about the public transportation options around Overland Park at night, but best bet is to either have a car of your own or hail an Uber to get here. Since Indian Place Indian restaurant is in a small commercial strip mall, there is a sizable parking lot here that can be a problem if you get here too late and none is available. Best bet is to come before or after the lunch or dinner crowd is gone slowly leaving. I saw Indian Place Indian restaurant at the top of my yelp search, with a glowing 4.5 star average rating. That basically lured us there to try it out. For the most part though, that average star rating meets the hype and the food was spot on. While not a perfect rating for me, it was highly up there and everything was great. The lamb curry was good and mildly spicy. It was, as mentioned before, the perfect springboard to the weekend's activities in Kansas City. The naan was good and fun too. Light and flavorful, while being just enough to be heavenly. This meal definitely hit the spot after a long day of travel from Honolulu to Atlanta and back to Kansas City. I would love to recommend this place to anyone who loves Indian cuisine or for anyone who wants to try it out for the first time and in Overland Park, KS. It was a lovely November evening to be here. Always in search for great Indian food on our travels, we decided to check out India Palace during this trip to KC and glad we did. The food was delicious, especially the chicken tandoori. I won't say this is the best we've ever had and was a bit disappointed by the limited naan choices (garlic or plain), but it was good enough for a return visit. Where I think India Palace could improve is on their decor - there is none! Found this quite funny actually. We are Indian dining and cooking connoisseurs, having dined at many in our lifetime in several countries, and were shocked that this place is so bland and boring. There is nothing on the walls, no fabulous Indian fabrics and the one paint color in the restaurant is not indicative of great Indian spices, flavor of the food or lifestyle of the people. So, the experience was a bit of a let down. However, food is always the most important factor in my ratings, so if India Palace would like 5 stars let's see some renovations on the next visit. Great menu, great spices and even better service! Tucked In a strip mall, this joint was such a nice yummy surprise. The Papadam with 3 chutneys (mint, tamarind & onion) were complimentary and spot on. We shared the 22oz Taj Mahal beer which paired nicely with the meal. I had the Vegetarian Thali & my date had the Non-Vegetarian Thali. Both came with veggie lentil soup, veggie samosa, rice, Nan, 3 entree tasters and our pick of desserts! How can you beat that!? I came here with two friends for dinner on a Saturday. If you're not sure where this was and you knew where ABC Cafe was, then it's right across the street from ABC Cafe. There was plenty of parking so don't worry about that. The interior was dimly lit but still bright enough to read the menu (to me anyways). There were a few others in the restaurant so it wasn't busy when we came in around 8pm. Their menu had a lot of choices so that was good. We ordered a lot for the three of us which were Raita ($1.00), Vegetable Samosas ($2.95), Chicken Pakoras ($3.95), Bhindi Masala ($8.95), Butter Chicken ($9.95), Chicken Tikka Masala ($10.95), Saag Paneer, Shrimp Biryani, Basmati rice, and Garlic Naan. I forgot the prices for some of those but whatever. The staff were friendly and always checked up on us while we waited for our food to come. A little while later, our food came out all at the same time and it was a lot of food. The Vegetable Samosas were good in my opinion and same with the Chicken Pakoras. I thought I never had okra before but I did once I tried the Bhindi Masala. They were not bad and definitely added some vegetables to our mainly-chicken meal. lol The Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masla were both delicious, but I preferred the Chicken Tikka Masala since I thought it had more flavor than the Butter Chicken. I would recommend either of those. The Saag Paneer was okay to me (a little boring to me) and the Garlic Naan was great. I always had regular Naan but never Garlic Naan. However, the saag paneer was very disappointing, very little cheese in the dish and was not creamy at all like most saag paneer.
