I went to this place for the first time with a group. It was a pretty big group and they only had one bartender and he was fantastic! The chips and salsa were great also but the house Margarita was tiny but did have decent flavor. But I got the dinner quesadilla with chicken and it was a sad meal. There was actually more sour cream, lettuce and tomato on the plate than quesadilla. I got four medium sized triangles and one had hardly anything in it. It was supposed to come stuffed with rice and beans (per the menu description) and there might have been a trace of each triangle. The chicken was pretty dry and flavorless and the only saving grace was being able to dunk it in the salsa that came with my chips. A full quesadilla should be at least 6 rectangles and have plenty of filling. For almost $15 this was extremely substandard. The bartender was running around trying to serve a lot of people so I didn't bother to return it. read more

Great looking bar, but no bartenders. Apparently every server makes their own drinks, so there is no actual bartender. Joke or not, one server stated they didn't want to share tips with a bartender. If you sit at the bar, whatever server takes your first drink order is your server for the duration of your stay. Good luck getting a drink or food until your server comes back to the bar to prepare a drink for another customer. Paying your bill is harder than getting another drink. read more

My rating is based on the food flavor. Nothing spectacular as far as Mexican food goes. The enchilada sauce was not my personal favorite. However, there are a lot of good aspects about this place. The #5 lunch special ($9.24) was served just eight minutes after I ordered at the table. It included a chicken enchilada, refried beans and rice with complimentary chips and mild salsa. I liked the good amount of moist, shredded, white chicken and the good portions of mediocre beans and rice. I found the service to be attentive, but not especially cheerful, while the interior was nicely decorated and spacious with a mix of booths and tables in four areas, lively Mexican background music, several TVs and a full bar. There is a new mexican restaurant in Lenexa that has opened up near Oak Park mall. This is their 3rd location in the metro with one in Independence and another in Gladstone. A lot of culture, character and art is featured at this location and it is stunning. There is plenty of seating including an amazing patio. Here is a recap of our visit: - The cheese dip is excellent. Great flavor & consistency. - Peach Margarita was sweet & strong. - The Molcajete featuring flavorful carne asada, tender chicken breast, juicy shrimp, seasoned chorizo, grilled nopal, onions, and jalapeño, all topped with grilled queso fresco and served in a hot stone bowl. We were seated promptly and it didn't take too long to have our chips & salsa and get our orders taken. We ordered beef tip chimichanga with rice and beans and Quesabirria Tacos plate. The chips were light and crispy and the salsa was really tasty. The food didn't take a terrible amount of time to arrive. The chimichanga was good, but wasn't really baked or fried much, just kind of a warmed up tortilla, making it more of a burrito than a chimichanga. I missed having the crunchy shell on the outside. The Quesabirra Tacos weren't my order, but I did taste the consume, which was tasty. The tacos didn't seem to be as fried as some from other places and if they had cheese on them, it wasn't much. The waiter was attentive until toward the end of the meal when it was hard to get his attention to get the check and to-go containers. Had an early dinner there Saturday, 21Feb. Hit happy hour, or so we thought...$2 off regular margs but when ordered they came out in little kiddie glasses! Am sure they shrink the "happy hour" drinks down into juice glasses! This is a little cheesy (no pun intended), just serve up your margs in regular glasses. This was my biggest issue. The chili verde sauce was excellent, as was the steak it came with. Tortilla's are wonderful too. Food was really really good. I got a combination plate that was good but my partner got a molcajete and it was fantastic. Best in KC. Comes in a true molcajete made out of volcanic material with a Mayan face on it. So much food comes in it!!! Queso con chorizo was good but I'd let them know if you like it with lots of grease or not since everyone likes it different. My daughter's hamburger was a decent size for a kids plate and she loved it, and we got sopapillas for dessert... also A+. So many restaurants have closed in this building, I truly hope this one sticks because it truly has amazing service and great food. My watermelon margarita was phenomenal and had me feeling really good on the way out haha. Perfectly sweet enough and so fresh!!!! Comes served in a half watermelon with chunks of real watermelon and natural watermelon flavor. No pulpy residue just fresh and seedless. Good size covered and uncovered patio and great taste in special Mexican/Mayan decor. All they need is some live music! We will be back for sure! I will share to all my friends and family. Been here a handful of times this year and every time it does not disappoint. The food always is hot and tasty. Not to mention the portions you get for the price will have you stuffed or having a second full on lunch to take home! I got a cheese and onion enchilada and the pork burrito. Delicious! I also got the house margarita. It was as good, or better, than other house margaritas that I have had at other places. What a WONDERFUL find in Johnson county!! The food was so well seasoned, you wanted to eat until you dropped. (Trust me! I thought I would!!) the Fajita steak nachos were such a level above normal that I could not help to wonder at what magic they put in their marinade. The Chili Rellano Poblano was filled with a decadent melty gooey cheese that made me feel like a kid again. Don't get me started on one of the freshest guacamoles in town. But I believe my favorite experience, was the customer service. Diana and Alberto made you feel like you were their favorite customers . I observed this at each customer that they had. Returned to Palacio Maya and had papa palacio maya with shrimp. Incredible. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. The sides were guacamole salad, rice and beans. All perfect. I can not rave enough about this restaurant. It is tucked in away from the street, so it's a bit difficult to see. I think it's one of the best Mexican restaurants in Overland Park. They should put this dish on the menu, if I could've gotten away with it, I would have licked the plate clean !!! One of the waitstaff said it wouldn't be around long!! I let the gentleman know that we were first time diners in their restaurant and we're asked to let him know how our experience was before we left. Our server, Rosalinda, was awesome and took excellent care of us. We ordered the chicken chimichonga dinner and I chose the #1 combination dinner (1 taco and 2 enchiladas with rice and beans). Both dinners were very tasty and we left clean plates! The entire restaurant was clean and had some very cool murals on the walls. Well lit and quite spacious. Pros and cons about this place. We went Wednesday at lunchtime and the place was empty. I ordered a lunch special, which was a burrito, taco (no lettuce), and refried beans. What came was the burrito, taco with all the lettuce and a chili relleno. Sent it back. My bf got the chimichanga and a deep fried taco. By the end of the meal, the taco never came and they tried to charge me $3 for the beans that were supposed to be included with my meal. The pork in my burrito was tender and tasty as was the beef. Everything was just lukewarm , it needed to be much hotter! The chips were good and I liked the salsa. I'll give it a second chance. They've been open 2 weeks. Growing pains still maybe? Our waiter was young but helpful. I'd like to try a marg next time. It'd be nice to see something stick in this location! read more

We've dined at many Mexican restaurants and had a couple dependable go-to's. The new restaurant with its impressive facade, generous outdoor seating and easy access made this a "let's try". From the moment we entered we were treated like welcome guests. Our drinks were served promptly and the attentive server gave us time to look at the large menu. While waiting for our lunch we enjoyed the bright, clean decor and musical selections. The food was served piping hot and in generous portions. We tried to restrain ourselves from eating all the (free) chips and salsa beforehand yet still came home with two take out boxes of delicious food. We'll be back!!! Now... you GO!! read more

Myself and my two sons visited this restaurant on a Friday afternoon. We love mexican food, and enjoy visiting new restaurants. The restaurant itself and clean and nicely appointed, with authentic music playing. There was one waitress that was helping every table in the entire restaurant. She was doing fairly well until our food came, and then she lost interest in checking back in with us. I had to get up and find her to get some things we needed on one occasion, and was about to do it again a second time before she finally came near us and we flagged her down. Both times she was chatting with other employees. The food itself excellent. The chips, salsa, and cheese dip were great. I found Birra tacos under a section of the menu that wasn't tacos, and ordered them. They were very good. One son ordered a quesadilla that was good, and the other got a hot dog off the kids menu that wasn't cooked enough, and was on a stale bun. The fries were very good, however. I was disappointed upon receiving the bill. Several items were much more than you would pay at other mexican restaurants. For seven dollars, I would have expected much more cheese dip than a small little cupful, and the margarita I had was large, but very expensive and not very strong. Overall, I would give the place three and a half stars. The food was good enough to give it a second try, but the service will have to be much better to warrant anything after that. read more

This is a brand new restaurant and if this is the best they can do they will not be in business very long. Tacos. I literally get better tacos from Taco Bell for cheaper. The meat wasn't seasoned. Some lettuce and cheese thrown on. Where they really lost us... the server was unable to provide accurate checks. There were three of us total. We had very simple orders. He had crumpled checks in his pocket. He didn't know what any of us ordered. He kept asking if we wanted one or two bills. The checks had split items and too many items. They ran one card for multiple tickets. One person paid for their $7.10 ticket with a $20 bill and got $9 back in change. Bad food and poor service - I won't be going back. read more
