Bourbon salmon
Rachel L.

Houlihan's delivered a fantastic dining experience from start to finish, leaving everyone in our party thoroughly impressed with their meals. My standout dish was the bourbon salmon, featuring a perfectly cooked 7-ounce piece of fish paired with rich mashed potatoes and garlic green beans. It was an absolute win on every level- something i haven't had at a restaurant in a while. The service was equally great; I lost count of how many iced teas I went through, but our server never let my glass sit empty for a moment. A massive shout-out goes to the front-of-house team as well. Our party size expanded right before we sat down but the hostess handled the sudden change effortlessly, accommodating us without hesitation even in the middle of a busy dinner rush. The staff here is a super awesome crew that knows how to treat guests right. The only minor downside to the evening was the sound level. While the music selection itself was great, the volume was turned up just a notch too high, making it a bit tricky to carry on a normal conversation across the table. Beyond that single noise issue, it was a stellar visit, and we will definitely be back.

Salmon BLT this is a stock photo due to issues but it looks exactly the same except for a little souffle of ketchup

It's been several years since my last visit, but walking in made it clear why this spot has been a Kansas City staple for decades. The space was busy, but spotless, the servers are attentive and luckily we got in before the big dinner rush. While I'd usually go straight for their famous stuffed mushrooms, I wanted something lighter and opted for the grilled salmon BLT. It's on the daintier side, but paired with a reasonable portion of crispy fries, it suited my appetite just fine. The salmon was solid and the bacon was properly crisp--always a win in my book--though the bread could have shade one more shade of toast for better texture. Unfortunately, the bar is where things fell completely flat. Normally, a couple of craft cocktails would do the trick, but these tiny pours felt like Glass Joe in Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!--zero impact. The bourbon special, Midnight Harvest, used a mid-tier bourbon and had an odd, cloying sweetness and just didn't work on my palate. Next up was their signature mojito, served in the smallest glass I've ever seen for a mojito, noticeably lacking in "spirit", and missing the icy chill and flavor it desperately needed. One quick note on the atmosphere: they featured a jazz singer with a genuinely great voice, but management needs to knock the volume down a couple of notches. It was incredibly hard to hold a conversation, and at the end of the day, this is a restaurant, not a jazz club. Surrounding entrees looked great, and despite the drink disasters and the loud music, it was still a okie dokie meal.

The location was really easy to find and you can't miss the sign coming from the road or from if you're in the mall Service is incredible... For appetizers, we had the stuffed mushrooms which were outstanding. There were stuffed with garlic and cream cheese, and then with a horseradish dipping sauce. Main course we had the creole PASTALAYA. It was a perfect amount of creaminess yet not too heavy. They had live music ( Jayson Kayne) which surprised me on a Tuesday. His vocals were incredible, unfortunately, they were a little bit, drowned out by the saxophone sometimes, but it was still a delightful surprise, considering I've never seen them or been to Houlihan's in a long time. Great experience will definitely go back

House salad with blue cheese dressing
Susan R.

I was welcomed in and seated quickly. I ordered a house salad. She brought it out in less than 5 minutes. It was fresh and cold. Salad was delicious and had enough dressing for salad. She refilled my drink. Then I submitted my birthday coupon. She took the code and then came back and the said the manager stated it needed to be on an entree. I read the coupon before ordering and after our experience. It stated $15.00 off food purchase not off entree. I was disappointed but paid. I think it needs to state entree vs food purchase.

Solid options up & down the menu

Houlihan's isn't your only choice in OP, but it's a really good one. Whether you're there during a time for lunch, dinner, or happy hour, you have lots of choices. Houlihan's drink specialties are pretty first-rate. Happy hour is a daily occurrence, whether it's longer hours in the bar or on the patio, or earlier hours on the weekends, you have a pretty good window. Mules, mojitos, or margaritas for $6-$7? Sign me up! Lots of shareables are on the happy hour list, not the least of which are their famous Houlihan's 'shrooms or their spicy crusted cauliflower. The dining room is pretty spacious and check out their dinner menu, because it has some proven winners. My lovely wife is a diehard enthusiast of their Tuscan white bean salad, a stack of greens and beans encircled in a flavorful basil oil. The presentation matches the flavor and you can sub out this as a side for one of their main dishes. I also would give a hat tip to the stuffed chicken breast, a crispy breast stuffed with an herbed cheese blend and nestled up against Yukon mashies. So good! The staff is friendly and generally responsive, the drinks are made to order and come quickly, and the whole experience is pretty solid. It's the suburbs, so parking is easy, the prices are pretty much on average to what the market is like out here, and the name Houlihan's still carries some panache. It's not the only game in town, but it's a pretty good one, so give it a serious look.

Chicken gnocchi rustico
Dana H.

I'll start by saying the food was great. I had a seasonal dish, the Chicken Gnocchi Rustico and tried the Meatloaf. Both were very flavorful and delicious. However, the place in general was dirty. I went to the restroom which looked like it hadn't been serviced in days and after the people left the booth across from us, they cleaned it off and put new silverware out, but there was still a napkin on a seat and several pieces of trash under the table. Our service was okay but pretty slow given that it wasn't really busy.

I was impressed this visit, something wonderful has changed here!! We arrived at 6pm restaurant was just starting to fill up. Deck doors were open with a musician playing outside. They have a large bar area. Food was outstanding and great prices. We will be back! I had the Seared Salmon Pesto which was incredibly good!!

CHICKEN PARMESAN
David L.

Stopped in here with some friends for an evening meal. Service at the table was prompt and helpful with suggestions. Drink order came out in a quick order as well as food. I got the chicken parm and it was cooked to perfection and was a large portion. Only complaint I heard from our table was some of the food was a bit under seasoned.

Upon arriving, we noticed that they had a lot of cute tributes to the late Dolly Parton. She was an awesome and inspirational woman and so it was really nice to see these tributes to her. Pretty good eats, great specials, and a full bar makes for a solid dining option for solos, couples, or families. You'll find Murphy's Corner nestled into a strip center facing 87th. The owner apparently did catering prior to opening this space and you can certainly tell with the food. The menu has lots of options, from standard pub fare to housemade pizza to some rather artisanal salads. I'd suggest the chicken sandwich, hand-breaded and fantastic. Or even the Hinkle, roast beef & thinly cut pork tenderloin with a sweet pepper aioli, is a fabulous sandwich. But don't miss that happy hour from 2:00-6:00 on weekdays. The smashburger special runs $6 for a single, and even that is a fair-sized burger, and maybe share a side with someone special. The smashed patty(s) come with the usual accoutrements, including a 'special sauce' that makes the smash a smash. Secret of the pros: get two patties, because it's worth the extra $3 and it's sensational. If there is any knock, then it might be the speed of service. Having stopped in several times, I don't think I have ever had the kind of turnaround that I can get many other places. But the food often makes it worth the wait, so I can only knock it for one star. Pricing is fair and certainly on the level with the area, parking is shared with other spots along the strip, and the atmosphere is wonderful. There are a TON of TVs in all directions, and you can even sit on the patio in nicer weather. It's a neighborhood spot with great food, great atmosphere, and great specials. Get there.

The other standout was the raspberry coconut chicken: crispy coconut-breaded tenders draped in a raspberry coulis with toasted almonds on top, sitting over a creamy slaw. Sweet and savory done right, though heads up if you're dairy-sensitive -- that slaw is loaded.
