We called last minute for a group of 20 and the staff was great about getting us in quickly. The place is nicely decorated, the service was fantastic, and we enjoyed the food. Some of the people in our group thought some of their dishes were a little bland, but I liked everything I tried. We had the okra and fried pickles for appetizers. The pickles have a very crunchy breading and a dip that was delicious! The okra is very good - especially with the dip for the pickles. We also tried the biscuits with butter and peach compote. They were great! Unique, fluffy, flavorful, and definitely worth a side order. I ordered the chicken and waffles with the peach. It was a good dish. The chicken tenders had a little bit of a spice that I didn't totally love, but they were still good. I also tried my friend's shrimp and grits, and they were delicious. The person next to me got meatloaf and brussels sprouts sprouts and really enjoyed it! He was practically licking the plate! Everyone seemed to enjoy their drinks as well. I was super excited to try this brunch spot out with my friend and it did not disappoint. Atmosphere: The inside is super cute southern inspired decor and open. I was expecting it to be super loud but it was not bad at all. Next time I definitely would like to sit on their patio that looked fantastic. Food: my friend and I shared a couple items. We started off with seasonal drink which was a strawberry mimosa and oh my these were delicious. Fruit forward and refreshing. Next we had fried green tomatoes which you rarely find in KC so I was excited. These were done very differently but so good. Breading was crispy and not overly flavored so you could still taste the tomato. Next we had their shrimp and grits. This is why they did not get a 5 star. The shrimp tasted like frozen shrimp from the grocery store. The grits were just ok honestly it was missing something. We make this dish at home and I probably have too high expectations. As a native Alabamian, I'm always up for some southern cooking. I was planning on this being as sweet as Van promised! We really enjoyed our Saturday afternoon meal! It's a lovely restaurant. It seems a bit out of the way with mostly corporate buildings around. The restaurant has a nice modern aesthetic. I like the purple hyacinths hanging from the ceiling in one area. It was very steady for an off time in the afternoon. First, our server Olivia was amazing! Very attentive and we were extra needy this day so I really appreciate her patience. We even dropped food on the floor. Oops! She was so nice about it and cleaned it up immediately. We had customizations and extra requests. No problem for her! She went above and beyond. I hope she sees this because she was such a joy! The food was also very good. We started with the biscuits and one peach compote and one blueberry. Both were yummy. They were traditional drop biscuits and I love a good biscuit! We also had an order of fried green tomatoes on goat cheese grits. You get 4 very large slices. I could only eat one. The grits were yummy but there were not enough of them in relation to the friend green tomatoes. They were also encased by a sauce. I'm guessing a remoulade. I don't really care for remoulade sauce so I'd have removed it had I known it came with the dish. It really overpowered the goat cheese taste in the grits. The tomatoes were very al dente and I would have preferred them cooked a bit more. The dish was still good but my least favorite and I would normally love anything with those ingredients and fried green tomatoes are a favorite so the remoulade (or whatever it was) sauce was a real problem for me. I would definitely get them again without the sauce because they are great otherwise. But that sauce just overpowers every other flavor! I got the chicken tender dinner and others in my party got the bone in fried chicken. Everyone liked their chicken. The tenders were a big size. 4 of them but I hit 2 meals out of them. Everyone liked the Parmesan rosemary potatoes. I really liked the bacon green beans. The only side we weren't impressed with was the Mac and cheese unfortunately. The cheese was not good. We got coffees and a chai. All of them were very good. A bit pricey for the amount you get though. Even with the smaller complaints, I'd still give th a 5 because of the outstanding service and the dishes were overall very good and large portions. I visited during Restaurant Week and had the tomato soup, classic chicken and waffles, and banana pudding, all were delicious with zero complaints. The atmosphere was beautiful, service was excellent, and we were seated immediately with a reservation. What really stood out was the attention to detail. Our entrée came out a bit too quickly while we were still enjoying our soup, and without us saying anything, a server noticed and replaced my chicken and waffles so it wouldn't sit while I finished my appetizer. I want to love this place. Truly. I visited the Nashville location and was blown away--amazing food, great service, the whole package. So when Tupelo Honey opened in Lenexa City Center, I was excited to make it a regular spot. But after four visits... yikes. Each time has come with major issues. Most recently, I sat at the bar with a friend. We placed our food order, chatted, waited... and waited. Thirty minutes later, the server came back and asked if we were ready to order. Turns out our order was never entered in the system, so the clock on our meal basically started over. For a late lunch with only two people at the bar, it should not take nearly two hours to eat. Unfortunately, the food itself hasn't made up for the experience. It's been consistently subpar, especially for the price point. One visit during the lunch hour, my server even told me not to order the dish I wanted because "people complain about it." I mean... who says that? I'm still holding out hope. It's a new location, and new restaurant wrinkles happen. I just really hope they sort out the service issues and bring the quality up to what I loved in Nashville. My partner was a bit critical of me when I ordered Fried Green Tomatoes, Okra, and Fries before anyone else arrived, but a few minutes later he was quiet when he was happily munching on the starters. This time my gf and I sat in a booth and it was very comfy. Andy was our server and what personality! He had pizazz, was thorough and so personable. He made our stay very pleasant. I enjoyed my entree and drink as did my counterpart. I have been here several times now. The food is always outstanding, but the service is NOT great. Our last visit was on Father's Day. It wasn't super busy, yet we weren't asked for our order for 45min. When we placed our order I had asked for a refill of water...but she never came back. I tried getting someone else's attention, but they didn't hear me. About 30 min later someone came around and finally refilled our glasses. Food was still nowhere to be seen. It would have been really nice to have had someone come over to us and let us know the status of our order. Our food finally arrived...it only took 2 hours!!!!!! We were looking for a good brunch spot on a recent Sunday to entertain some out-of-town guests, and had heard good things about Tupelo Honey, so decided to pop in and give it a try! Nice location, just a couple minutes off the interstate, and in an up-and-coming, very popular area of the west KC 'burbs! There's plenty of parking on the north side of the restaurant when you arrive. Upon entering, we were very wowed and impressed with the facility and decor! There's a beautiful decorative wall inside the foyer, and some beautiful floral decorations hanging from the ceiling above the entry to the restaurant! Even though it wasn't as busy as we'd expected for 11:00 on a Sunday morning, we were forced to settle for a hightop table with booth seating on one side, and wooden chairs on the other. A large section of normal seating was blocked off as reserved, and remained that way most of our stay. The menu is pretty large, and has a lot of southern-themed dishes, covering breakfast, brunch, and lunch-type items! Our table ordered a pretty decent variety of appetizers and entrees, and we all tried each other's! Unfortunately, the food was split right down the middle: some was pretty good, some was a pretty big disappointment. Positive highlights included the chicken and waffles, an omelette, the smash burger, and the side potatoes. Lowlights included the biscuits (very hard and crunchy...almost stale-like), side brussels sprouts, biscuit sandwich, and overall portion size for price. There was enough on the positive side for us to be interested in trying it again, but we were definitely disappointed with a couple of the breakfast "standards" being so sub-par. The plates and glasses used are cute and fun, and add to the southern vibe! The service was average at our table; attentive, but only just so. One of our orders was delivered incorrectly. I'm totally struggling on the overall feel here: it's a beautiful facility and vibe, but the food (the main reason you come!) was somewhere between "decent" and "good"...only one dish was near-great. Me and a couple friends came here for lunch. When we walked in the front door there was a very cute wall with greenery and fall leaves and pumpkins. Then saw that part of the ceiling had greenery and flowers hanging. So pretty! I was surprised how busy it was during the week. Very cute place. Industrial glam type feel. The bathrooms are super cute with individual stalls that have sinks as well. The server came and took our order pretty quickly. I've always wanted to try chicken and waffles so that's what I ordered. It was good. A little salty from the chicken and a little sweet from the waffles which were dusted with powdered sugar. The skin was crunchy and full of flavor and the inside was tender but a tad on the dry side. The server was nice and gave me a to go cup with my iced tea that I didn't even ask for. A great night out with some friends. We were all extremely anxious to try Tupelo Honey! And this was a great visit! The Food: So Good! The mix of "southern" dishes in the American Bar standard fare is a great choice. Everyone raved about all of the dishes that they had. I ordered the meatloaf with crispy potatoes and collard greens. It was fantastic and I cannot praise the kitchen enough. The Service: We were seated quickly (had reservations) and in a comfortable spot for the six of us. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. Though not fast. And didn't make very many trips to the table to check drinks or ask if we needed other orders. This did include a few times reminding her that we didn't have silverware, and the fact that she asked about dessert as she gathered up the credit cards to pay our bill. I am certain all this will come with more experience. The Ambience: This is where the restaurant should lose a star. This place is new and incredibly clean. In fact, the environment is almost sterile. I could change a little decor and turn the place into a Waffle House, a Peach Wave, a Boston Market, or any of 100's of eateries. There is no standout factor for this place. The Wrap: I enjoyed my experience here. And will certainly go several more times. There was a bit of a wait, even though I had a reservation, but the hostess did communicate with me that they were waiting for a table to clear up that was taking longer than expected. The service was good once we got to the table. They had put several tables together for my large group of 10 people for a Wednesday evening dinner. The food was good, but there were definitely some strange flavor choices with parts of the recipes. There was a large amount of shredded basil on my chicken and biscuits with gravy, which did not taste pleasant to me. I think they also used dark meat chicken, which I was not prepared for. The flavor combinations were good at times, but other times it did not work for me. I would definitely go again to try something else, to see if I liked it. So happy this place came to KC! I had it a couple of years ago in DC and it's just as good as I remembered. We had a reservation and when we showed up they apologized that we would have to wait a second as they were waiting for a table to leave. We waited maybe 5 minutes and they came up to us and were so apologetic about us having to wait and comped 3 appetizers plus biscuits for our table. For drinks: I did the lemonade cocktail that changes colors and it was very good. My dad requested something off menu and the bartender came over to make sure they understood exactly what he wanted so they could make it correctly. For food: Biscuits were to die for and so were the brussels sprouts. Those two were my faves. I had the asheville hot chicken melt and the chicken was soooo good. I will say, there was zero spice but I didn't mind that much. Everyone else at my table was happy with what they are. Reasonably priced for Johnson County/Lenexa City Center. Moderately priced maybe $$? Probably the only negative is that they don't offer vegan options per se. It's possible they could omit any dairy, eggs, meat/poultry etc from one of their dishes to make it vegan, but the menu doesn't list that any of their offerings are. The food was outstanding! The Parmesan and rosemary crispy potatoes were so delicious! Crispy exterior with nice fluffy potato inside. I asked the server which version of the southern chicken BLT he'd get between grilled or fried--c'mon now! My thoughts exactly: It's Southern cooking--fried! Next time I come I'll have to try one of their beverages. I just had water but the glasses they're served in are cute. I'd come here again. I always appreciate another good breakfast restaurant in the neighborhood, so I had to check them out. I do miss Southern cooking from when I had sales territory in Georgia and Mississippi. Upon coming in the front door, I saw a lot of people standing and empty tables, which means the hostess is slacking. Spitting my lunch date, I started to make a break for the high tops when this large woman blocked me and asked me if she could help. Fighting the urge to be snide, I made a quick move to my right and headed on over to the high tops. This is a common problem these days, nobody trains these people properly . If the bus boy is busy, clean the table and fill it. When you have a crowded entry and people know that you're not doing your job, they're usually not gonna complain, they just won't come back. As for the service, our waiter was very good. My food was cold upon arriving, but cold eggs over easy and hashbrowns are almost as good cold as they are hot. He was hustling, and I didn't feel like adding any more pressure to his day. I like the atmosphere of the place, it looks like a nice upscale southern restaurant inside. I also liked the blueberry iced tea, I could get addicted to that really easy. As for leaving a rating of 3, I'll be back and hopefully I can raise that to a 5. You just had to be there !! We were told by some friends to check out this newer restaurant in Lenexa. So I made a reservation online (which I highly suggest!) Saturday 4 o'clock couldn't come fast enough. The decor have me a sense of rustic, farmhouse. The vibe very laid back and casual. No after 5 attire needed. With the reservation we were at immediately and a couple minutes after arriving at our table the server was there to take drink orders !! I was torn between the Shrimp & Grits/ Honey dusted chicken so I asked our waitress and her recommendation was to try the chicken. I was not expecting the perfect crunch of the chicken crust. Nor was I expecting how juicy the chicken breast would be. Delightfully surprised. The honey dust was a nice touch (savory w/ a hint of dust.) I appreciated a good piece of fried chicken that is seasoned and not salty. Now for me, I was expecting more of a southern Mac & cheese. That it was not, it was creamy but I couldn't put my finger on the cheese used. Seemed to be a cheese sauce. Now the greens tasted slow cooked, flavor throughout each bite. Chef's kiss. I could have done without the biscuits but they are worth the try for you to know. Personally they were too dry for me even with the peach or blueberry jams. Could have just been a batch that was cooked a little too long but please try them for the cause. We did order the Pecan Pie but got it to go because we were stuffed after the meal. I didn't get to take a picture but think I would have preferred it warmed although the Pecans in the pie were the star of the show for me. While both biscuits were amazing, I especially loved the sweet potato biscuit, and the blueberry jam was out of this world! The fried chicken was excellent- juicy,crispy skin, and great flavor. The "bee dust" on the chicken, made it special... A slightly sweet flavor. The mac & cheese had a very slight kick and the Parmesan roasted potatoes were cooked so well, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. My husband really enjoyed his flat iron steak too. Matt, the general manager, came and spoke to us, and we thoroughly enjoyed the conversation. It's clear that he has the expertise with the restaurant business and specifically Tupelo. He had excellent customer service, was friendly and approachable, and made a magic moment for me when I mentioned how much I liked the blueberry jam. By the way, the blueberry jam was one of my favorite parts of the meal, lol Matt's customer service made this experience a 5+! The ambiance was better as well.. just more lively and I liked the choice in music. What sucked was the food. I'm sorry but the food is nasty. The Brussels were good and the okra was good but that's about it. The blackened fish was disgustingly burnt (not blackened just burnt), the shrimp and grits lacked flavor and made me so sick after, and my fiancé's spicy chicken sandwich wasn't spicy at all and came on white bread??? We had a very nice waiter who ended up getting a few too many tables seated for him at the same time, so there was a bit of a lag, but it was obvious he was doing his best to make his rounds. We both ordered chicken and waffles with the peach topping. I forgot to ask for the topping to be on the side as I really didn't want it on my chicken, but that was my fault and I lived through it. I'll say we were underwhelmed. The chicken looked great but was really bland. The waffle was okay, the peach topping was okay, but it just wasn't great. It was fine. It was edible, but bleh. I was using a coupon for my birthday which was handled easily. The server wanted me to have a dessert for my birthday which I declined because I had just eaten a pound of waffles and peach topping, so he offered to prepare it "to go". When I tried it later, it was banana pudding, which was exciting to try, but it was really bad. The bananas were black. I wondered if it was leftover from the day(s) before (as we were some of the first customers to arrive that day). Observation that didn't impact our meal directly: The bartender was prepping for the day and as I was facing the bar, I found myself watching his routine just because of how I was sitting. I repeatedly found myself grossed out by some of his behaviors including, but not limited to: Using the bottom of a box of salt/sugar to level out the "rimming" salt/sugar. While prepping mint or some herb, he was constantly wiping his hands on his face and nose, also while prepping the herb he and one of the other staff was enjoying the aroma of the herbs by pressing them on their nose and face around their nose to smell them. AFTER he was done with most of the prep he washed his hands to then immediately use his hand as a tissue to wipe his nose again. read more

Stopped in a couple times for brunch and it is definitely a decent option. The service was very friendly and the menu was a good mix. I felt like all of our dishes were decent. They probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back often. read more

Was entice by this newly opened restaurant down the street from our house. Sat at the bar and enjoyed the conversation with the bartender and our food. Was disappointed that they didn't have mashed potatoes, but the roasted potatoes were very tasty nonetheless. Not sure that this establishment has anything to offer for entice me to come back or on a regular basis. read more

Everything was SO GOOD that I forgot to take pictures! We got the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. I got the Asheville Hot Honey sandwich with goat cheese grits for my side. My husband got the waffles with egg and the side. Everything was absolutely delicious!!! Cat was our waitress and she was the sweetest! Great food, great service and a super clean restaurant!
