I was a 'regular' at Blue Moose in Lenexa (and the old one in PV) but it's gone so far downhill I'm not returning. The last straw was inviting friends for dinner. Each ordered a different entree and it was unanimously 'not good food'. It's one thing for one dish to be disappointing but when no one enjoys their different dinners it's a REAL problem. Food is ok. Take out/curbside pick up is terrible. I clicked the link and followed directions to say I was there and called multiple times with no answer. Finally went in and the girl at the front (assuming it was a manager) turned around and walked away and proceeded to stand by the bar and do nothing while I remained unhelped. Came here for lunch before heading to HOFF. I am honestly surprised that this place isn't rated higher. It wasn't busy, since it wasn't lunch, so that might have affected the service. We were seated quickly, and our server was pleasant. I ordered the chicken curry and added shrimp. It was amazing. I am still thinking about it and it is almost dinner time. The portion size was great. My fiancé ordered one of the Oktoberfest specials, beef stroganoff. He said it was decent. Ambience was nice, pretty quiet at 9:30. I was surprised they still serve food at that hour. The service could've been quicker, but they did the best they could with our party of 15. We went to the Blue Moose for a Mother's Day buffet during early afternoon. Most of the buffet stations were empty, and they weren't replenished in a timely manner, although we made multiple requests. Diners were left with few options. The prime rib carving station was low on supply, and there was no salmon available until the buffet was almost over. The restaurant continued to have issues with replenishing the dessert station. Additionally, the buffet was spread across two rooms, so it was very disjointed. While the elements were there to make this an enjoyable dining experience, the execution was poor and not worth $45 per person. read more

My first time going here. We went for their snowglobe Holiday Pop up and it was SO FUN! Service was great. The place was so cute and all decked out in Christmas decor and feeling so cozy and warm. Right from the start, I knew it was going to be less than good. When I checked their website to make reservations, they had the seating named Twinkle 1,2,and 3. That should've been somewhat of an alarm, so I decided to call and speak to the hostess. Horrible phone manners, she basically told me it was a pop-up.,which I just don't like. I decided to make reservations anyway. When I arrived, the place was so over decorated with strips of lights hanging down a foot apart either way and what apparently was some pop-up companies left over travel, trailer, decorations hanging all over the place. Somebody on the spectrum would've curled up and crawled underneath a table. It was so intense. They put me right by the door, which is the last place you want to sit when it's this cold. So the waitress moved me down to a lower level and there I sat for almost 25 minutes. My friend that was meeting me for dinner got there and he said how long have you been here? I told him I've been there approximately 25 minutes and nobody had even brought me a glass of water. The problem with that was that there were more employees there than there were customers, no big surprise on that. I tried to make eye contact because I'm not a pushy person, but they just ignored me. My friend finally stood up and asked somebody to send a waiter or waitress to our table. The young gal that they sent over what is halfway between Aubrey Plaza and Hazel, the operator, speaking in a very annoying monotone. When we ordered waters to start off with before we got drinks, she rolled her eyes and at that point, I just said look we're out of here. We ended up going to Johnny's on Ridgeview and actually had a good meal, a great waitress, and a nicely decorated establishment, not the leftover foreign made overdone lights that were at the Moose. The sad part is that my rewards card is older than most of the people employed there and over the years I've spent tens of thousands of dollars and their establishment. But over the last 3 to 4 years it's just gone downhill so bad that I don't really waste my time with it . I'm probably just gonna take my couple hundred bucks in rewards go burn it over at Barley's brewhouse and be done with the company altogether. Nobody wants to come to an establishment where people don't make eye contact, tend to talk down to you, and seem more interested in chatting with other employees Than they are and serving the customers. I worked for tips all through college and even if you don't like the Customer, it's your job to be nice and reasonably quick at what you do. If you're smart, you can make a lot of money in four or five hours, that seems to be lost on a lot of kids now. And the sad part of it is is that when you have a building customer who comes in twice a week tips 20 to 25% and more holidays, you're cutting your nose off to spite your face. This is why I buy steaks at the butcher and usually eat at home, I don't have to worry about a snotty server, door dings on my car, or somebody's loud kid who keeps kicking the booth behind me. Somebody needs to consult that company and how their employees talk to people. It's not acceptable, it won't be tolerated, and it'll run you straight outta business. read more

The food was absolutely horrible. I ordered off of the restaurant week menu and it was a bad selection. I ended up getting chicken and waffle. The waffle was ice cold. It was like they made the waffle and let it sit until the chicken was cooked. Come to find out, that's exactly what happened they only have one waffle iron. I ordered the warm cookie skillet to go. I got home opened it up and the cookie was hard as a rock. I could have stopped at Subway or QuikTrip and got 2 cookies for less than the $5 I was charged. The restroom needed attention it was dirty and there wasn't toilet paper in the stall. The topper was that the manager could care less. I told him this was a horrible restaurant week experience and he kind of shrugged and said sorry about that. He really didn't care. I'm so mad we went there. Don't go there. Don't waste your time driving over there or your money. You would do better to get chicken tenders from Culver's at least those are cooked fresh and they are great. read more

The food is pretty good, and I especially like the chicken piccata and their flourless chocolate torte with raspberry sauce. This place has been on the decline for the last year. Our party of six ordered a variety of entrees - only the pizza was acceptable. None of it was good and the service was marginal. We should have realized when our first restaurant choice had a 45 minute wait and Blue Moose was empty. One of our party called and voiced their displeasure and the manager offered a 50% discount - a nice gesture but we all felt cheated out of a nice get together over dinner. Needless to say, we're cutting our loses and not going back. I'll be very surprised if they remain open the end of the year. read more

On 3-14-26, we stopped in for an early dinner at 5:00 pm. Place was almost empty. Wait staff had the worst attitude and no hospitality skills at all. Decided to order off of the St. Patty's Day menu and got the worst Rueben sandwich I've ever had. When I complained to the waitress, she told me that she asked the cook if that was the way it was supposed to be and they said "Yes", so she then walked away. This was a great place to stop by for lunch! I ordered the 6 Cheese Mac-n-Cheese and Mashed potatoes. The Mac-n-Cheese had a lot of good flavor and texture especially with the breadcrumbs they added. The mashed potatoes had some of the skin put in if you like that, and were creamy. All of the food came out very hot and fresh. The service was very quick and friendly. The Blue Moose is an interesting one. They have a great patio that is perfect for hanging out with friends. The service was great and we had our drinks pretty fast. The food was a little disappointing. One person in our group ordered a medium rare steak on their steak salad and it came out a pretty dry well done. I had the fish and chips, the Cole slaw was the best thing on the plate. The portion was massive, but that does me no good when the batter is bland and the fish tastes... fishy..... Not recommended for Sunday brunch. Had 3:00 reservations, walked in a few minutes late and was greeted with we close a 3:00, not may we help you or anything else. We were seated and service was very slow since there was only one server taking care of several tables by herself. She was doing the best that she could and was a great server. I was very disappointed in the choice since it was noted as a brunch. There was a very limited food selection. The scrambled eggs reminded me of my days in the Navy eating powered eggs. If you go expecting an omelet, pancakes, French toast, or anything else you might expect at a brunch they were absent. The rest of the brunch was pretty well picked over, and they started tearing down the entire brunch around 3:30 so they could get ready for the evening customers at 5pm. We loved the Twinkle Fest and the food. Don't miss it through New Years' weekend. The chil and south west salad were delicious. The you man who served us was spot on with everything. Went there for Happy Hour apps and cocktails--ended up with a somewhat disappointing KC Restaurant Week meal that was not up to the $40 it cost. Felt it was more a lunch-sized version in the plating. Oh well, now I know, perhaps stick to the Happy Hour menu as previously planned? It was Friday, I work as a public servant--I had a most delicious libation called Cranberry Crush--360 Red Delicious Apple vodka meets cranberry cocktail, lemonade and lemon-lime soda--YUMMMMMMMM! Seriously, it is so good you may not even notice you're drinking alcohol. (Drink Responsibly, have a designated driver, or the 10/10 taxi info is posted in the ladies' restroom--and can only assume it is posted in the men's as well). I had the Asian-inspired chicken wings--definitely the flavor was on the skin--chicken itself was bland, but served hot. Would have been better if they were served with the sauce they were also basted in. (I asked for some to go). To that end, and as an aside, our waitress, Lizzie, was attentive, friendly, patient, humorous--definitely made for a more pleasant dining experience. I ordered the pork chop with apple chutney (so good!) with mashed potatoes (scrumptious but NOT hot) and Brussels sprouts--not only were the Brussels sprouts COLD, but they lacked flavor. When Lizzie asked how everything was, I mentioned this and she had the kitchen make a new batch--an amazing improvement. For dessert, I had the chocolate mousse cake--of course it was delicious! The dining area was clean, and they had enough decor to be tasteful and not "in your face." At the end of our meal, Rachelle, the hostess (& perhaps assistant manager or manager) stopped by to ask how our experience was. My family and I come here a lot - a little bit because we know there's something on the menu for all of us, including my picky toddler, but also because there doesn't happen to be a lot of casual dining around here unless you go up to 87th St. Blue Moose is a big restaurant with casual cabin dining vibes, complete with Blue Moose all around. It's one of my son's favorites. We never seem to have an issue with the hostesses and are generally seated pretty quickly. I'm not sure how the server sections work here, but from here it seems like it always takes 15-20+ minutes to get to us, even when it's not busy. On the worst occasion, I think I waited 35 minutes just to get drinks with several wait staff walking past us multiple times. After that though, and orders are in, things seem to go smoothly and move along as expected. As I mentioned before, the food is always good. My husband usually gets sandwiches or wraps. I change it up sometimes but recently I've been getting the curry. I used to think it was odd to have curry on an other American-style restaurant, but dang is it good here. I definitely recommended adding the blackened shrimp too! Another favorite of mine is the wedge salad + add grilled salmon. 3 stars for spotty service, but bumped up to 4 stars for consistently good food. read more

I have to admit that the name lured me in , how can you go wrong with a blue moose. Okay, maybe the reviews helped. Either way it was a wonderful choice. The atmosphere was quite charming. The hostess was friendly (a trait not as common as one might think). Our server, Brianna, was equally as friendly and attentive (again not as common as one might think). The menu is choice packed from appetizers to desserts, don't miss the bar selection, especially the cocktails. Personal recommendation: the salmon is delicious. Portions are a bit on the larger side (half options available on some items), prices are competitive for the area, family friend with a kids menu, and outside seating options. Last minute a friend and I decided to try their KC Restaurant Week dinner menu and kind of wish we had stuck to their Happy Hour instead. The bbq on Korean bbq chicken wings was amazing but the chicken itself was bland. The Hickory Smoked Duck was not worth the extra $5. I admit I've only had pan fried duck medallions twice so I wasn't sure what to expect. The rice & vegetables almost made up for the fatty, chewy duck. The Lemon Cake trifle was good. Honestly, for me, this wasn't a $45 meal but I'm glad I tried it because now I know smoked duck isn't for me. BUT the 360 Cran-Apple Crush drink! That is something I will always order there. If you don't love the taste of alcohol then this is you next favorite drink. This is what made dinner worthwhile. And the service was fabulous. Lizzie did a great job checking in with us without being intrusive. Rachelle, the manager/hostess? was also very personable and chatted with us for a few minutes. Just came in to visit family here in Olathe and saw this on Yelp as a recommendation, started off with the chicken hot strouds spicy bites. The breading was thin and very delicious and flavorful. I also ordered the chicken curry with shrimp. That was also very delicious with a spicy kick. The chicken was tender and the shrimp cooked perfectly. We went to this place for the first time. My 9 year old and his friends had an incident and one of the kid fall down.The Restaurant owner came to the kids and was so rude literally threatened my kids and my friend's kids that he will call the cops on them. Our kids are still traumatized from that encounter. Then he actually called the cops on us which spoiled our entire evening. His staff was apologizing to us . They even said it is so stupid of him to do this and he instigated the whole thing. Would never go to this place ever again and would not recommend anyone to take their families especially if they have kids to this place. I would have given this place a 0 star if it was possible. I checked all the other reviews and it's that same attitude problem with the so called manager/owner. I am also a business owner and i would never treat or approach my customers the way he talked to us and especially my kids. read more

We had called ahead for a reservation, but I didn't see a line when we arrived so perhaps I was being overly cautious. Overall the food was excellent at this location and it's nice to see the menu has been pared back. It use to be a bit overwhelming at the other locations I'd been to. We had apps (spinach artichoke dip) and drinks (the Jameson Orange Mules- delicious!) and then enjoyed some rather large entrees (club sandwich w/ sweet potato fries, the porterhouse w/ baked potato & green beans, and ribeye w/ baked potato & green beans).
