Was there for the chef's 5 course menu with wine pairings. The food was exceptional and the ambiance was warm and inviting. The braised leg of lamb was the best I ever had. Absolutely no gaminess. We're staying at the hotel and met our daughter for dinner. It's quiet at the start of the year, which we don't mind, and it of course meant great service. My daughter raved about the French onion soup, and my meat lovers flatbread was good. My wife got the doubletree burger with a side salad. Very generous salad, and it was fresh and crisp, which she loved. It's a very pleasant setting, and includes a full service bar, making it a nice spot for an intimate dinner. read more

My KCRW lunch experience was very good. The menu included many good choices, so it was hard to pick, but the house salad, the mahi mahi with wild rice and sauteed green beans, and the carrot cake were delicious. I cannot believe how bland this food was. I came here for KC Restaurant Week, and they looked to have a very good deal: 3 dishes, appetizer, entree, and dessert, for $15. The appetizer I chose was fried calamari, which was fine and large, but the cocktail sauce saved it. Next up was the 72 Hour Short Rib... and wow. Bland on all levels - the meat, the sauce, the sides. I've had hospital food that had more flavor. I didnt have the heart nor the confidence to send it back - my server was very attentive and nice, but there was zero guarantee that any other dish I would have picked would've been better, and time was of the essence. After that disappointment, I had the DoubleTree Cookie Brownie Sundae, and this could have been good except you could tell they had stored it in the freezer, so everything was hard. Sadly, I honestly can't see myself giving this place another shot. read more

Three stars aren't necessarily a knock to the restaurant it's a decent place. Went for restaurant week and it was a bit empty but I didn't mind it. The braised short rib was solid and they gave generous portions which I appreciated overall. The French onion soup was a bit, interesting. The cheese was a bit lumped up so it may throw off some people visually but it was okay. The salmon, huge, but lacked overall flavor. I'd suggest mixing it with the rice and green beans to add some salty elements into it. The cheesecake was decent and had good texture and the carrot cake was better than expected. Overall the servers were very nice and I wanted to give it a 4 star based off of that but the food was just a bit underwhelming for what I thought it'd be overall. Super nice inside by the way that's intimidate. So, I'd recommend this place to travelers that have a bit of pocket cash and don't want too salty food and good portions. 3 star isn't a knock here, expectations may have just been a bit high. read more

When I arrived on a Monday, I was a starving Marvin. I ordered room service and it was there in 20 mins. Got the Kansas steak soup and chicken tenders & fries. It was great. Had the full breakfast bar on Tuesday morning, it was great. Cereal, muffins, toast, bagels, fruit, meats, eggs, oatmeal, etc. & an omelet station. All everything you can think of to drink. Then on Thursday night, I wanted to explore out but it was raining and pouring so I decided to stay in. I was sat in the back and it was a nice area. You had to cross a bridge with running water. I was greeted right away. I ordered the Kansas steak soup, and the Kansas Style Strip with crispy fingerling potatoes. Delicious!!! Friday morning, I came down for the full breakfast bar and ordered an omelet. It was so good. Fluffy, tasty, and just great! The restaurant manager, JP is super awesome. I forgot my dinner receipt on Thursday night. He made sure the receipt was at the front desk when I checked out. read more

I so wanted to love this experience. Welcome was okay but hospitality was great, hence the 2 stars because I can't give it a half star. No stars for food(temperature, texture and taste) The food looks great but flavor was definitely lacking. No salt on anything. The flavor profiles seem like they would pop in your mouth but everything unfortunately was bland, even the fries. I wished the calamari had more texture. The fry on it was minimal and I didn't get the lemon aioli, only cocktail sauce. My cheesecake tasted store bought, straight out of the freezer and thawed. Sorry Trophi, I have doubts about returning and I know if I ever did it would not be for the food, but solely for the hospitality. read more

This past Friday March 30, a small group of about 20 people including myself gathered to celebrate at a special dinner at the Doubletree Hotel Trofi restaurant in Overland Park. After we arrived for the dinner we discovered they switched locations on us from a private room to a mezzanine single table setting that was right next to the main dining area. The old 'bait and switch' in motion. Our dinner orders were taken at 7:30 pm but by the time everyone was served, it was nearly 9:00 pm. My rice pilaf was so dry it set me off on nearly a ten minute coughing fit. But the big surprise was the fellow sitting across the table from me pulling out a 3/4 inch metal wire from his mouth originating from his order of Burnt End and Mac and Cheese. We weren't sure where this wire came from but thought it might be from the restaurant's grill brush. Dining at the Doubletree restaurant was a miserable experience and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone much less the hotel guests. read more

We are in the process of relocating to Denver from Columbus and we will be doing the back and forth thing most likely for the next 12-18 months as we slowly transition. The hotel is halfway between both places. After 12 hours in the car we didn't have the urge to get back in the car for dinner. We are Hilton Honors members and we like to yelp: PROS * convenient. Clean. Hardly busy on a Saturday night guessing this is a high traffic business district hence light crowd. * food was better than expected. Tons to choose from settled on two salads with grilled chicken and we split three soft tacos. CONS * bartender was ok - con because we have had better. Change of shift midstream of dinner and our closing bartender was much better. * two salads with grilled chicken added an appetizer of three tacos a cocktail and a glass of house wine $70 plus 20% tip was a bit pricey. Yes - we tip well unless it is god awful. Best part is as a HH member we racked up points leaving the charge on the Amex HH card. read more

I'm usually not the type of person to write reviews but the experience i had in Trofi restaurant made me write this one. My girlfriend and I went to Trophi for a first Valentines dinner. Right at the door, we were greeted by two lovely people who showed us to our table and few minutes later, we were greeted by Phill, who asked us what we would like to drink and what we would like to eat. He got the orders, came back with the drinks and then disappeared into thin air for the next 1 and half hours. No water or drinks refills, no updates on the food or anything. He was just gone! We flagged down other servers and asked about our food multiple times but to no avail. Finally after 1 hour and 30 minutes Phill showed up with the wrong order, did not mention a word about him being late and did not offer any kind of apology. While talking to me he standed behind me and kept tapping on the sides of my chair (in a more or less threatening manner) while claiming it is a hectic night as the only explanation for the 1:30 hours wait and the wrong food. (it was not! Maximum of 5-6 other parties were eating at that moment). He told us that bringing the right order will take at least another 30 minutes. After all this commotion, a nice gentleman came forward and offered to deduct the entree from our check for the mix-up and long wait but interestingly even he did not say a word of apology. The situation was so surreal that people at other tables could not believe their eyes! We asked for the check for our drinks. Another 15-20 minutes passed by but no one brought the check. We tried to remind Phill about the check but he just plain and simple ignored us. We eventually decided to go to the front desk and ask for our check there. Phill showed up after he was called by the front desk and it took him another 10 minutes to figure out our check since he thought we already paid! The front desk gentleman who was very very nice apologized for the mishaps when he heard what happened. He was probably the only reason my first Valentines night was not totally ruined by this experience. So if you want to be mistreated and insulted by Phill, I strongly recommend Trofi restaurant! read more

We waited till the last minute to look for somewhere to go for Valentine's Day and my husband found openings here. We got the duo dip appetizer. The hummus was good but I think the eggplant dip was half garlic. My filet was good, the potatoes were a little hard but had good flavor. The veggies weren't very warm. My husband's salmon could have been cooked longer. The bread pudding was a little hard and flavor wasn't outstanding. Wasn't the worst meal, but not good enough to go back for. read more

Not sure how to properly rate this one so here it goes. Stayed here for 3 days , had the buffet for breakfast and the omelette bar was outstanding. The rest of the buffet was typical, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, oatmeal blah blah blah. Pricy though, $22 with tip out the door. Here's where thy loose stars! Wanted to have dinner but no hostess....sign said wet paint and the restaurant was dimly lit with no body there. So I went to the front desk and thy said you need to go to the bar...which was crowded with only one bartender. I don't think so! What kind of service would that be. So I left. Good breakfast if your staying there, good luck if there open for dinner. read more

My husband and I were staying at the hotel and we had breakfast here. WAIT: We came for breakfast around 9:30/10am. It wasn't too crowded and we were able to find a table no problem. During the breakfast buffet there is no hostess, well there wasn't one when we got there, and you just find a table. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Awesome customer service! FOOD: For breakfast they have it buffet style. They have all your typical, yummy breakfast items. A cook in the middle of the buffet as cooking omelets for those who wanted it. You choose what you want in your omelet and they make it. There is scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, cereal, fruit, juice, coffee, muffins, toast, yogurt, breakfast potatoes, and hot cereal. The items I had were all delicious! TIP: You can buy your hotel room that includes breakfast. It costs more then if you buy the room without breakfast, but it is a smidge cheaper in the long run. I was about 16/17 dollars per person - we did not include it in our hotel room price. So, for two of us it was close to 40. The hotel room that includes the breakfast was just under 40 dollars more per night. Soooo, it is probably worth it to get the breakfast included to save a few bucks. That is at least the pricing we saw online for comparison. read more

To preface this review, I was one of the many guys struggling to find a last-minute reservation for one of the biggest days of the year for dining: Valentine's Day. This restaurant was the only one left, and I quickly realized the reason behind that opening and I regretted making that reservation, as it was a big mistake. First, this restaurant is based in a hotel and to be honest with you, I have had some good experiences with hotel-based restaurants. However, this was not one of them. Upon arrival, I knew we were in trouble, as no one was there to greet us, except some old maintenance guy. Note to Trofi: as a customer, you want to feel welcomed and that your efforts to make a reservation was a worthwhile effort. The front reception area should not be on auto-pilot and that is basic stuff. We sat down and surveyed the restaurant which resembled a lunchroom at a senior living center, as there was not a soul under the age of 75 in the room. The menu was tailored for the setting with Mac and Cheese as their highlighted meal. I could hear the chatter of other customers that ranged from complaints about the food to cleaning thier dentures with Polident. They did have a Valentine's special, but it's hard to embrace "imported scallops" when Mac & Cheese is the top plate. We decided to live on the edge and ordered the flatbread appetizer and a pair of hamburgers. Close to an hour later, our food arrived and it was hardly worth the long wait. Another note to Trofi: It should not take an hour to make a mediocre burger and fries. Not to mention that the food resembled leftover crap that had been sitting under a crusty heat lamp too long at Wendy's. If anything, they should have paid us to eat there. To cap it all off, the waiter forgot our appetizer and told us "that we missed out on a good appetizer." While that may be true, I could not say as it never made it to our table. During our long wait, we also heard chatter from the wait staff about the many issues with the kitchen and other servers--not good practice, as customers don't want to hear that. More as an escape from this disaster, my wife tried to go to the bathroom where she encountered a couple of maitenance guys chatting in the women's bathroom. That's not good, especially given the 65+ crowd with enlarged prostates. In summary, this restaurant is awful and I strongly urge you to avoid it at all costs. If I could rate it negative 69 stars for the crappy food, service and overall experience, I would. read more

My boss, coworker and I thought it would be fun to try over our lunch break, especially during restaurant week as the menu looked yummy. The first course was good(I had the french onion soup)....but the calamari was cold. Then came the entree....I have never been so disappointed in a meal. The food tasted microwaved and had a funky taste. All 3 of our meals were sub-par, it was not just us being picky. We really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, BUT...to top all this off, when the waitress got our desert order wrong, she asked us if we were sure it was wrong?? Really?! when our "Work Crew" stays here we always find time to hang out in the Lounge! yes, we have the great breakfast arrangement before heading down the road for our corporate meetings but we also enjoy our evening time! we are made to feel like part of the "family"! wow... all I can say is.. How do you F up a salad? I ordered the Chopped Salad because it was late and I didn't really want anything too heavy. Heck, it even comes with a "Lite Ginger" vinagrette, or so they say. I figured I was here on the company dime so why not shell out an EXTRA $6 for a chicken breast. What I got was a lettuce salad that had green peppers, red onion and radishes like crazy, ice cold chicken and oil. No hint of ginger, "lite" or otherwise. I'm not one to send food back. This time, there was no way I was making myself, work, or anyone pay for this. They took it off the bill, thank you very much! Instead I had to content myself to a burrito bowl from Chipotle because everything else was closed at 9:45 PM. And 5.75 for a bottle of domestic beer? Are you serious? read more

Do you like desserts? Then you'll like this brunch. We went for brunch on Christmas. A very nice menu selection of prime rib, ham, turkey and fixings. I especially liked the green bean casserole made with fresh green beans. There was also omelettes made to order. Desserts, cheese bar were great. Nice plates of lox, sushi and smoked trout were very beautifully displayed. Their salad was sorry. For such a nice buffet, I expected a better selection for salad. It was iceberg and romaine hearts with a pathetic selection of toppings and tasted like cardboard. That was disappointing for a veggie lover like me. (Gaslight Grill does a much better job on the salads and breads) One improvement would be to have more than 1 vegetable on the buffet. On the menu it says it comes with an a Oli and marinara sauce I asked for cocktail sauce. and they said oh that's what it comes with even though on the menu it says marinara. the waitresses didn't know the difference between marinara and cocktail sauce. Regardless though they were chewy the breading with soggy it was almost like their microwaved and not fried. I asked for onion rings instead of French fries with my sandwich and ordered it to go. They brought it out for dine in. Then she said here is your sandwich with fries. It's the little things that matter. Also don't ask them for directions. I was sent on a wild goose chase for a Walgreens that didn't exist. Terrible, good thing I am only here till Saturday. Hopefully breakfast is better. read more

This hotel restaurant in the Doubletree Hotel is alright. You probably wouldn't eat here unless you were staying at the hotel or had some function at it as there's a little bit of a price markup ($15 burger entrees). However, as a hotel guest it is very convenient and quite tasty too. While waiting for an event to start we stopped here and ate here near the bar which had a screen showing the Royals game, always a plus. We ordered a couple of sandwiches. The DT Burger had a big beef patty topped with blue cheese crumbles, thick sliced bacon, and fried onion straws. I thought it was one of the best burgers I have had in a long time. The other sandwich we ordered was a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich topped with coleslaw. It wasn't bad, it didn't wow us as much as the DT Burger. Both sandwiches came with perfectly cooked french fries. So if you are captive at the Doubletree and get really hungry or thirsty (decent amount of beers on tap) then stop here for a very good hotel priced burger. read more

As a local resident I rarely eat at hotels. My lunch date suggested we try Tropi and it was delightful. The dining area was so tastefully decorated. Everything looked clean and nice. We both decided on the Cobb Salad. My date said it was the best cobb salad he had tasted in his entire life! I thought it was very good and loaded with plenty of ingredients. Our server was very good. She was attentive and made the desserts sound awesome but we were too full from the salad. The hostess was also very friendly and greeted us with a nice smile. I will return and might just try something besides the cobb salad but that will be hard to do! read more

For a hotel restaurant, the food is pretty good, but if it were anywhere else, I would say it is "just okay." I tried the Macaroni with Meatballs since I am a huge macaroni fan, and this is my reason for rating the restaurant "okay." It is creamy with a bit of a kick, but doesn't have the cheddar flavor that I love. I think I am just not used to Midwest macaroni (as I had a similar experience in western Illinois). All of that said, the staff is friendly, the appetizers are all pretty good (especially the hummus plate!), and for travelers, I would recommend trying one of their local beers. read more

I travel extensively and stay within the Hilton hotel group; including DoubleTree. My hotel restaurant expectations are usually not high and I tend to look for something outside. I had to eat here tonight and it surpassed my expectations. I ordered the Lemon chicken white bean soup and the Mediterranean plate. They were elegant and delicious; atractively displayed; with very homemade flavors. I really appreciate that they make a real effort here and it made my dinner experience excellent. read more

Ate here for dinner while a guest at the DoubleTree. Was almost empty, which I didn't mind because it was quiet and I needed to get some work done. Couple of big TVs to watch the game and very friendly staff that wait on you. Menu selection is pretty limited and I would suggest looking it up online before visiting to ensure there is something that you like. I ended up getting the turkey burger with a side salad. Salad was a regular house salad. Not great but not bad. Veges seemed fresh, which is all you can really ask for. Turkey Burger was mediocre at best.
