This particular First Watch is the closest to my home but I rarely go to this location because it's always busy and there is a longer wait. Today we decided to try it out again and had to wait about 15 minutes which is better than usual. The host was nice and the waitress was nice also. She checked back with us on various occasions. The restaurant was busy but not too loud. They could do a bit better on the cleaning as the wall of the booth we were in had some food smears from most likely previous children and handprints on the glass behind us. The food was generally good but not as good as other First Watch locations. My gluten free bread was not toasted enough even though I asked for it to be toasted so it wouldn't fall apart as easily. The salad which she said should already have the vinaigrette mixed in, had absolutely none so I had to ask for a side of it. All other locations always have been fine with both of these items, I get the same thing each visit. My husband's BLTE was good but he asked for extra bacon and they forgot it and his bread was not really toasted like the other locations. I've had similar issues in the past when coming here. The check out host was nice and he was professional to a woman that was complaining at check out before we paid. I would just say the service is fine but the orders may have some issues when asking for specific things. read more

First Watch is not always my go to spot if I am craving brunch. But if I am near one, then I will stop in because I know the food is consistent. But that is not the case at this location. And I am very disappointed. Kale Tonic is a must for me. And the one at this location tastes just as great as all the ones I've been to. For the main dish, I ordered Parma with sunny side up eggs. The eggs were cooked perfectly to my request. However, the entire dish was extremely salty. I almost wanted to return the item back to the kitchen but we couldn't find our server. And they were extremely busy so we didn't want to wave anyone down and be a bothersome. The server came by to ask for our order over 3 times within 20 minutes. Not sure why the rush. My boyfriend's first visit so he had to read each item on the menu. As soon as the food came out, we never saw her again. The restroom is extremely dirty and outdated. I went to the First Watch Shawnee location because it was closest to my job. I spent over $34. The meal should have been served hot but wasn't. I ordered a blueberry pancake which the waitress brought out because she didn't want it to be served cold. It was hot and tasty. The other item I ordered was the Proscuitto Toast and it was brought out after a 15-minute wait and was lukewarm almost cold. The waitress stated the kitchen couldn't find the cheese grater. Ugg... Should that have been my problem? I think not. I waited another 15 minutes and had to get up and ask for a to-go box. The waitress rolled her eyes. First Watch is a very consistent restaurant. I love the fact that you can check-in online, it makes getting a table when you walk in easier. Of course the food and drinks are the star of the show. I love the lavender lemonade and I see it has made its way into the menu permanently and I will probably be a fan forever! Lavender is known for its ability to calm the nervous system, lift the mood and even lower blood pressure. No other place is doing this!!! My go-to meal is the chickichanga that comes with potatoes and seasonal fruit, it's only right to get a side of butter grits on the side so I can add some sugar to have them sweet. My partners go to meal is the salmon frittata that comes with a lemon dressed mixed green salad, but got it as an omelette instead. Although, today I think I became a fan of something I MUST try during the fall. The Ham & Gruyère melt which can come with a salad or soup, but I will most likely need to pair it with the tomato basil! You know there will likely be a wait on weekends, and you know the food will satisfy that breakfast grub craving This place is busy, seems there's always a very short wait 10mins max or so due to quick turnover, it's also a bit of noisier spot with a fairly loud dining area. They have a small patio but it unfortunately doesn't have much of a view besides Shawnee Mission Parkway. However the food is really the selling point and the drink concoctions are always interesting and refreshing, ala Morning Meditation and The Green Machine. Their breakfast foods are reliably good, the skillet hashes and breakfast tacos are my jam and can't recommend them enough. read more

First Watch was a pleasant surprise. The first time we went I checked their wait-list prior to arriving and it was less than 10 minutes. When we arrived the parking lot was full and we had to fight for a spot. I started getting worried thinking that the wait timer was off and we were going to have a long wait before eating breakfast. We finally parked and got inside and there were a few people ahead of us in line, but we put our name in and sure enough we were seated within 10 minutes. The inside is spacious, but still feels cozy and a little rustic. Since it was our first time there I ordered their Trifecta which is two eggs, your choice of breakfast protein and either a Belgian waffle or a multigrain pancake. I was excited for the multigrain so I went with the pancake two eggs over hard and crispy bacon. It was all cooked as I requested and the multigrain pancake I actually had to double check because I thought it was a regular buttermilk pancake. It's actually exciting overall to find a place that has so much of the whole grains to offer because it helps you be healthy while also feeling like you are getting a treat, which I greatly appreciate. We went back for a second visit this last weekend and I ordered their spring special of the crab cake Benedict. It has a ciabatta bun, spinach, a poached egg (I got fried), and topped with a Sriracha hollandaise. It was ridiculously delicious. An above average breakfast experience. Here is what I mean. The service was fast and knowledgeable. Our server responded to our every request professional and expeditiously. She advised us on the best choices for our taste and even took pictures for us. I was impressed! Now let get to the food "it's the presentation for me!" There is something about things coming like in the picture that soothes my heart. It's a work of art and it really sets the mood for me. Finally, the taste; fresh and delicious. Such a letdown. My husband and I went out to have brunch as we are soon expecting our first born. We went and 5 minutes after we set down the waitress wanted to get our drink, apps, and food order. We ordered two apps to enjoy and I asked for a purple haze drink and our meals. Well 15 minutes later I was still looking around to catch someone's attention to get a water at least. A few minutes later 1 app came out, still no drinks. 4 minutes after that our meals and the other app came out. There was not enough space on our tiny table and I reminded the waitress I still needed the drinks. We also were upset every food item came out before we even had the drinks. To go out and spend money to be so rushed was a letdown. The waitress left and I didn't have syrup for the waffle. It was such a mess. I love first watch, but today may have ruined it. Went to breakfast with a group of 22. We let them know well in advance when we were coming. Upon arrival, we had to wait while they set up our tables. Servers were prompt to take drink orders , bringing them out quickly. They then started taking our orders-servers we're very kind and patient with the elders in the group. Surprisingly the food came out pretty fast. I always love their menu for the variety of options. They also had a separate Fall specials menu AND they now offer cocktails!! This is a First Watch through and through. An extremely busy one too. Much like the other locations, this one is a turn and burn volume operation that focuses on serving breakfast and lunch dishes. We visited on a busy Saturday morning when the restaurant was on a wait. It didn't look good at the beginning, customers had filled the waiting area and spilled out on to the sidewalk. No bother though, after about twenty minutes, we were led to our table. Excellent. The restaurant has added a rotating seasonal menu in addition to its regular menu. A couple of us tried the new menu and were quite happy with their meals. I stayed a little straighter and ordered an Eggs Benedict. It was served with a large portion of breakfast potatoes, which I probably should have substituted for fruit, but otherwise, it was a solid meal. It came out quick too, considering how busy it was. Service could have been better. Our server was a bit of a character, but overall a good guy. He was personable, friendly, funny, but also a little bit forgetful. He forgot to put in our drink order. Later, when a few of us asked for some cream for our coffee, he forgot that too. Last, but not least, at the end of our meal we asked for the check... yep, he forgot that as well. We ended up just walking up to the manager and asking for it. None of this is bad and it's definitely not a dealbreaker, but it's something that should certainly be looked into. This is breakfast done right! I've never been to First Watch and I'm glad I finally did. I got the farmhouse skillet with potatoes, bacon, peppers, avocado and eggs. I got mine hard poached and they came out perfect. My son got the same with eggs over hard, but they were scrambled. He's a teenager, he didn't care. My 4 year old got the kids pancake and bacon, it was huge. We also got the vanilla chai pancakes to share, they were good but I'm not sure if the nuts were necessary. To drink we had two juices, one with kale and fruits, the other was some kind of morning booster. The kale was definitely better, the other juice tasted medicinal. The tacos were really good, I just wish they offered a salsa instead of the pico. The black beans had zero flavor or seasoning, tasted right out of a can. Bummer. My mom had the Trifecta with her choice of waffle or pancake, eggs, and protein of your liking. She opted for the waffle, scrambled eggs and sausage links. She liked her plate, but thought my tacos were better. The drinks seemed a bit flat, and was never offered a refill. Would I go again? I might be slightly obsessed with the Lemon Ricotta pancakes and I'm not even a big lemon fan. The ability to get in line on the app definitely helps because during the weekend, this place is packed. Million Dollar Bacon is a must if you like bacon. Similar to candied bacon, it's mouth watering. The coffee has an amazing story, but I'm going to leave it to you to read about it on the menu.
