Best cinnamon roll we've ever had! We enjoyed brunch at the Corner Cafe. On the weekends, they serve Biscuits and Gravy until they run out; unfortunately, I think I got some of the last of the batch. My husband had the pork cutlet. We were both impressed by the large portion sizes but the star of the show was the cinnamon roll. For $5, you get a gigantic cinnamon roll swimming in butter and frosting. It was absolutely DELISH. Hubby and i had breakfast here and it was pretty good. I had the Corner Special. It had pancakes, sausage patty and eggs. The pancakes had crispy edges, which i love, and they were a welcome change from overly fluffy pancakes. Hubby had the biscuit topper, which had a biscuit with egg and sausage gravy on top and bacon. I also had a caramel iced coffee. And he had regular coffee, which he said was very good. The place was clean and decorated in old timer decor. The best part of the whole meal was Wes. He was our server. He was very personable, attentive enough and seemed genuine in his interactions with all of his customers. He has a great accent to boot! I just love eating here. The atmosphere is fun. The food is good. Service is efficient considering how many people they serve. This is a popular place for a reason. I was in a party of four for lunch on a Thursday. Two of us got chicken fried chicken and they both loved all of it. One friend got the fried catfish dinner which she loved (and I was jealous). I got the Sweet Lovin' Pecan Chicken Salad because I wanted a lunch portion and not a huge dinner. Ha! I still ended up taking half of my salad home. The blue cheese, pecans, dressing, and chicken were all fantastic. The strawberries were a little under ripe, but it's not quite berry season so understandable. I wish the iceberg lettuce had been romaine instead. And if it had been romaine and spinach, it would have been even better! Everyone else that ordered got their food. One person didn't. Manager would not come to register. After 4 trips to back of house finally asked server who couldn't fix the bill to bring manager. Didn't offer drink refills either. The restaurant is pretty large with several tables and rooms on the side as well. If they are packed I'm sure you'll be waiting awhile. My husband wanted to go to Corner Cafe for his pre-birthday breakfast, they said the wait would be 20 minutes and we were skeptical because of all the people in line and outside. But true to their word, they are a well oiled machine, they got people seated very quickly, and we were served immediately. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. I have celiac so this really is not the restaurant to go to! lol This restaurant serves a lot of homemade foods and they do not have anything gluten-free listed on their menu. Which I was not surprised because of the type of restaurant it is. I happen to mention being celiac to the waitress, and she was actually very helpful when I ordered. I ordered the corned beef hash meal. The plate comes with homemade corned beef hash, two eggs, a choice of grits or hashbrowns and I chose grits and then a choice of bread or biscuit. She told me that I could substitute the bread with fresh fruit. The portions are good sized. My husband had the pork tenderloin and the fries. The pork tenderloin comes by itself as a sandwich and the fries are extra. He raved about the pork tenderloin, and my food was very good as well. I think the only thing to mention about my meal was that I wish the grits did not have as much liquid in them. They were still excellent, I asked her for butter and maybe brown sugar or syrup and she told me that I would have to use syrup because they keep their brown sugar soft with a slice of bread. So I was thankful that she was very good about being careful with my meal. It's a very busy place, but not overly loud and there is lots of seating. We would definitely go back. I'm going between a 4 and 5 here. I came because the pork tenderloin was highly recommended. It was very dry and I'm not sure it was fresh, could have been frozen. The onion rings were delicious! We had good, attentive service. I would certainly go back because the food that was ordered from my group and others tables looked delicious. I HIGHLY recommend you get a cinnamon roll too! Breakfast at its Best! Since they don't accept reservations, there might be a wait during mid-morning and on weekends. The restaurant has a classic charm, hasn't had or needed an update. If you're lucky enough to have Sue as your server, you're in for a treat - she's efficient, friendly, and truly awesome. I always start with coffee and a delicious cinnamon roll, which I cut up for everyone to share. If you enjoy biscuits, make sure to order them before 1 PM or before they sell out! Wow Corner Cafe didn't disappoint! We drove 30mins to get here for a great classic diner breakfast. They stop serving biscuits & gravy at 11am and a couple other items but the other breakfast items are available all day. They don't take reservations our party of 5 was told 25 mins but it was only 15mins. They broke up the space into many different areas and even have a stool counter too. Great service from Larissa our waitress and the other staff members. We brought home mini cinnamon rolls container which are regular size since one cinnamon roll is the size of a plate! As this place doesn't accept reservations (to my knowledge), we walked in during prime brunch time on Sunday and hoped for the best. While there were no tables available, the first come first served counter was wide open! This place is run extremely well. The restaurant was bustling but didn't feel chaotic. There were tons of servers and food runners. The woman serving us behind the counter was an angel. She was so sweet! The menu has great options. I wouldn't say the food is anything incredibly special - just classic breakfast food that is well made! My partner and I split the French toast and the Corner Omelet with hashbrowns and a biscuit. OK I obviously dine here too much. Been a while since I reviewed them. Shame on me. I said in my previous review if ya have a problem tell someone. Well tonight I didn't have to. Ordered to go at 1800. Got there early as they usually are spot on with their timing. Tonight was not a shining example. I WAITED and waited and several lemme go check on that. The manager asked and when he went back I think he saw an issue, that guy took control of the situation. Not yelling but directing organizing this goes here that goes there. And at some point he said crap where's the order. 50 minutes after ordering a server brought it up to me....(here's why I love this place) she said yeah I am soo sorry I sent your order out and we didn't realize it. It was her raising her hand saying yup I did that and flipped the switch of me being irritated. Her explanation came directly from the heart I could tell that she is a great server. Then the Manager stepped in and said Mr Hamilton I make no excuses we dropped the ball. That folks is customer service. If its great everyone gives 5 stars and oh how wonderful. Even though I waited 50 minutes for my order. I still give 5 stars for the level of customer service that is shown here. Was it busy, oh yes it was and servers everywhere. The waitress not once came back to the table, only to bring us our check. She never asked after our meal was brought to our table if we needed anything or if everything looked OK. The waitress never once asked if we needed refills. When she took our order we had ask for 2 cinnamon rolls with extra icing to go. That was not on our bill. She said I would ask if you would want pie, but we don't have any. When we were leaving, my daughter went to the front to ask for 2 cinnamon rolls with the extra icing and the lady told her it would be an hour wait. Yes, it was the day before Easter, but we were there at 2 ish and it was not busy busy. How can you be out of pie and wait 1 hour for cinnamon rolls. And then there is a café they call The Corner. So many good meals with so many good friends over the years! It was 41 years ago that I woke up in a motel room on a hill in Riverside Missouri, got up and went to a brand new job. I started work at executive Beechcraft that morning at the MKC Downtown Municipal Airport. And since Kansas City was completely new to me, I had no idea where anything was. I found a Burger King in North Kansas City, so I ate a few meals there and on Friday I asked some of my fellow employees that I have just met where is a good place to eat? They told me to go to The Corner Café in Riverside. Little did I know at the time, had I just driven down the hill I would have found The Corner on the first day! With a fresh set of instructions written down I drive into Riverside and pulled up to a building that said The Corner Café. When I looked at that building, I almost did not get out of my car to go in and eat. It looked as if it was ready to fall down. But I did go in and I did eat and as I recall the first meal I ate there was meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a soft drink. Now people will tell you that the corner is best known for its biscuits and gravy breakfast. And those same people will tell you that there biscuits and gravy dishes are as good as it gets anywhere in this town. I could not agree more but I take exception to it! You see there is a comfort dish that they serve for breakfast that is second to none anywhere in the world according to my taste buds. It's called the meat lovers omelette. You see they take some ham, sausage, bacon, and American cheese cook all that with three eggs, and they place that omelette on an oval platter next to a big side of hash browns. Now when you place your order, if you want sausage gravy on the browns, need to specify that. You will not find a better tasting breakfast anywhere than this omelette and those smothered hash browns, and the coffee and biscuit are great too! So, for the last 41 years I've made a lot of trips to the Corner Café both in Riverside and in Liberty. Mostly Riverside for breakfast. So, the picture of the food that I've included today was taken at the Liberty location. The two other pictures that I have posted, I found on the web, are from that original building that I was so afraid to go into. I do remember that window! Sometimes, I want to go to the bakery for some excellent baked goods. Other times I want to go to a nice diner and have a burger at the counter. Sometimes I even want to just have a good old sit down meal with friends and family. Believe it or not, ,whatever your mood, this place has you. If you just want one of their famous cinnamon rolls, there is a bakery counter right as you walk in. You can get any of their delicious bakery items and stay or take it to go. The dining room has a country grandma's house vibe with wooden tables and chairs and pictures of past staff and patrons all over. My favorite place though is all the way in the back. The diner counter. This is where the magic happens. the kitchen can be seen from the counter seats and people sitting and enjoying conversation with the staff and friends. The menu isn't overburdened like some restaurants in Corner Cafe's realm. It has great classics and a few surprises and all at very reasonable prices. This trip I opted for the Four Piece fried Chicken Dinner which comes with two sides. I chose Onion rings and, what else, Mac & Cheese. Since the chicken dinner takes a little longer to prepare, we enjoyed their huge dinner rolls (Top Tip - If you take some chicken home with you, also get a roll and use it to make a sandwich with the chicken. SOOOO good). My dinner actually came out quicky. The onion rings were light, crispy, and excellent. They were even better dipped in their house ranch dressing. The Mac & Cheese was like my gran made. not super creamy, but baked and cheesy. Then there is the chicken. Fried to golden perfection. Juicy and crispy. My only complaint is it could have used more pepper, but it still did not take away from the excellent quality (Author's Note - I am the guy who usually loves spicy chicken so the pepper may be an unfair request, you decide). Now the flip side to the pepper is the chicken was not over salty like most places which to me is a huge plus. Another great thing is staff are very attentive to their guests and our iced teas were always refreshed when our glasses got to half way, They even gave us to go cups for the rest we didn't finish and did so without us asking. The chicken was so good that I am now anxious to go back and really try more of the offerings they had on the menu which ranged from burgers to steaks, catfish, pot roast, etc. Go, Enjoy, be stuffed. read more

I've been here many times but I'm just now getting around to leaving a review. I just can't get enough of this place! The service is amazing as soon as you walk in the door. Everybody greets you with a smile and welcomes you in. There's a real homey feeling that's comes from the smells to the decor covering the walls and ceiling. Everything on the menu is worth trying but I can't seem to eat anything other than the country omelet with toast and hashbrowns. Everything is cooked to perfection every time and you can't beat the great prices too. Finally, you can't go wrong finishing off any meal here with something from the bakery. We are frequent diners at Corner Cafe, like weekly and have been going there since 2009. We've never been on a Thursday though so it was the perfect opportunity to try their spaghetti and meatballs. Not somewhere I would traditionally suggest for this meal however I wasn't disappointed. The meatballs had a delightful spice and the sauce was on the sweet side which I prefer. Noodles were perfect. It comes with a side of Italian bread which was generic but didn't affect my overall happiness with the meal. I actually ended up bringing half it home for lunch this next day. This is the epitome of comfort food whether you're here for breakfast, lunch or dinner. My friend and I have met here for our monthly lunch/dinner for at least a couple of decades and we both realized that, in all this time, we've had maybe one bad meal. Not a bad batting average, I'd say! The bakery items are to die for and while CC is known for their cinnamon rolls, I think the pecan sticky buns are the best. The other standout from the bakery is the no-sugar-added coconut cream pie. The entire wait staff are some of the friendliest waitresses in the city. They're super attentive to customer's needs and while you might run into one having a bad day (hey, they're human after all) you'll get smiles and jokes 99 times out of 100. You might have read some reviews complaining about the increase in prices and it's true, like every other restaurant on the planet, their prices have jumped. We stopped in here after a early Chiefs game. We heard it was good. Let me start with it is not just good but Fabulous.! Breakfast or dinner was available at 3:00 pm. Walked in and were seated immediately. I picked breakfast. Homemade corned beef hash with fresh hash browns fried to a delicious crisp on the outside and delicate and fluffy inside. Two eggs cooked perfectly and whole grain whole wheat toast! She had the Chicken Fried Steak. That started with a nice fresh side salad of greens, and fresh chilled vegetables. A nice Blue Cheese on the side and wonderful homemade garlic toasted croutons. The Steak was delivered steaming hot and as long as the steak knife beneath it. Must of been a half pound. It was as long as a drink straw and 5" wide. A large helping of deliciously mashed potatoes and covered in wonderful seasoned white gravy. It came with an home baked old fashioned white flour yeast roll. The kind you used to eat in school and grandma's. Then we decided we had to get a couple of the "Must Try" homemade dessert rolls. One was their Famous house made Cinnamon rolls with white glaze frosting. The other was a "Sticky Roll". A cinnamon roll covered in buttery caramel sauce and pecan halves. Both as large as a fork and weighing a pound each I would guess. This truly a "Must Eat At" home style restaurant. It is clean, efficient, and the service is top notch!
