One of the best tasting chicken fried steaks I've had in a while. I was visiting from out of town and the mayor recommended that I go here since I was looking for local comfort food. She was right. From the themed decor, service, and vibe, it has the experience of walking into your local towns' restaurant. The service was friendly and attentive. Love this place because of the flavors and consistency. It feels like your grandma from 1978 threw down in the kitchen. But because it's so popular there most likely will be a wait. I think the longest I waited was 30 minutes. So keep that in mind. Service is always on par and I don't recall a bad experience. I will say they can get quite busy so your server might be gone for a bit but the other workers are always around so it's easy to flag someone down. It's been awhile since we ate here because my experiences weren't great previously, but places change. So it was time to try it again, but I was disappointed again. I had 3 in my party counting myself. One person ordered the special, which was roast beef with mashed potatoes/gravy and vegetable. Potatoes were cold and the roast beef was Luke warm. Sent it back and they warmed it up. Another person ordered the other special which was potato soup. The soup came back COLD, so she just ordered something different. I ordered scrambled eggs with ham, pancakes, and extra crispy hash browns. The hashbrowns were raw when they were brought back, so definitely not crispy! New ones were made that were crispy. We took a pecan roll, cinnamon roll, and pie home. Cinnamon roll had a lemon taste to it? Pecan roll and pie was nothing to ride home about. The waitress was okay. I would not recommend this place. This diner is a great place for breakfast, lunch, and brunch. The patty melt was not even close to being healthy for you, but if you are getting one eating healthy is not on your mind. The rye bread, grilled onions and a very juicy burger, is how I envision a patty melt should be. Save room for pie, they have several types on any given day. Over the years I have tried a good selection, to date I have not been disappointed. This location has been here for at least 20-years. The sticky bun or cinnamon roll is a great choice for breakfast. I gave it one star for the prompt and friendly service. Our server was a nice young girl. From the time we entered, all staff was genuinely nice. However, our food was very bland. We came for breakfast this last Saturday. The omelets were runny. And the cheese selection...American, I would've recommended something alternative. American cheese is just too fake. And so with the eggs and being a "runny" cheese, it was a rather wet omelet. The hash browns had no flavor whatsoever. The biscuit I chose for a side was a good baked biscuit. But my side of sausage gravy was very runny. For the ambiance and service I'd give it more stars. But it's the food that would want me to come back, and I'm afraid it just wasn't anything to write home about. I'd definitely recommend at-least adding salt and pepper to your hash browns. They tasted like they came straight out of a frozen bag! A little more starch to the gravy. And either a different cheese for omelets, or cooking them longer. I have some advice for the staff there especially the hostess. Do not heat up the cinnamon rolls that are ordered to go unless the customer request it . We ordered some to go and when we got home most of the icing was melted to the consistency of milk and on the bottom of the styrofoam container. There was little visible icing on the cinnamon roll. It had obviously been heated in the microwave because the outer layers were hard. We had to eat cold cinnamon rolls because we could not heat it up again or the entire roll would become hardened. I really should ask for a refund as it was a waste of money with what could have been a delicious cinnamon roll . read more

Disappointed I live in the KC area, so I eat here once ever month or so. Always clean. Staff is always Friendly. I ordered the meatloaf sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy and a bowl of ham & beans with cornbread. Everyrhing had great flavor. A visit here is a pleasant experience. The menu has plenty of offerings. They serve breakfast all day and night king which is a big plus in my book. They have everything from fried catfish to spinach omelets to steaks. There is also a small bakery offering delicious pies, cookies, cinnamon rolls and other goodies. The bakery section is in the middle of the store and is enclosed by three sides of glass walls. You can see the bakers create their masterpieces. Delicious and interesting to watch. Customer service has always been good and consistent. The employees are nice and efficient. No one chats up your table too long. They have mastered fast, friendly small talk. This is always a busy place and there are customers to be waited on! Corner Cafe has a huge parking lot so there are never issues with parking or access. Very convenient and definitely has ease of use. Here is what I don't like about CC- it's very big and loses some intimacy. For such a big restaurant the bathrooms are small. My main dislike is their cheese. I LOOVE cheese (perhaps a bit too much!) and the cheese they serve is straight out of the wrapper. It's a nice thin square cheese that you get in the store individually wrapped. Would it take much more effort to serve a higher quality cheese? Just something little that would go far. Otherwise, CC is simple country cafe fare which is reasonably priced. read more

I went a few days ago and ordered liver/onions, mashed potatoes and gravy, cabbage and greens. The meal was just ok. The liver/onions was awful and the mashed potatoes were not hot. The cabbage was good, greens were edible. I was disappointed, but maybe just an off day. I realize we are returning to dining out from the pandemic and employees are few in number these days. I'll definitely give it another shot. The waitress was as sweet as can be. I've eaten breakfast there a couple of times lately and it was good. The menu didn't have cinnamon rolls on it but we saw several so asked about it and ordered one. I think it was $5 and it was huge! The waitress then told us they also have a sticky bun and I wish I'd known that because I would have loved to try it. So we shared the cinnamon roll (took half home) and I ordered the spinach artichoke dip omelet and hubs ordered the topped Biscuit and gravy. It was all very good. The biscuits are to die for!!! I would like to start this by saying "I love the Corner Cafe". I just don't love this specific location and there's no way I'll be back. Went on a Saturday at 3. After being assured of a 15 minute wait, it took nearly an hour to seat our group of 3. We had a wonderful server. I can't stress that enough - she was great. She took our orders and we waited over 45 minutes for our food. I ordered Fried Chicken, my brother ordered Chicken Fried Chicken, and his girlfriend ordered an omelette. The plates were piping hot but the food was stone cold. When we inquired about why our food was so cold, the server got a manager. There are few things I hate more than asking for a manager so you know it was bad. I ate a few bites of my mashed potatoes and the leg before realizing how cold it was. My onion rings were frigid. My brother was hungry and is the least picky person I know. His girlfriend couldn't take a bite of her omelette. After another 10 minutes, the manager and her assistant manager showed up and explained they were down to one kitchen and that it had slowed orders. I asked her why we hadn't been warned about such a delay when we ordered and she had no answer. I asked why our orders had been brought out cold. It was clear our food has been done awhile and left on a warmer forgotten. I asked about this several times and was constantly told that my plate was not hot while my food was cold. They assured me it had been brought out once cooked. The incompetence of this manager was astounding and her lack of customer service skills showed. She finally agreed to knock 50% off our meals. She also offered a piece of pie - one piece of pie for a table of 3. We did accept a to go cinnamon roll. That was fantastic! I ate some of my food but then took the rest home to reheat. I actually like fried chicken cold but of course that's not what I ordered. It was average. Potatoes were lumpy. Cold onion rings were inedible. My brother's girlfriend didn't eat a bite until she could get her omelette to a microwave. Once we warmed our food it was fantastic. Our server was great and we tipped her very well but management was incompetent and all-in-all it took over 90 minutes from the time we arrived to the moment that we received chilled food and management continually made excuses, blamed others, and lied to us. Knocking off 50% was literally the least that could be done. Will I return to Corner Cafe? Yes. This location? HELL NO. read more

I was very intrigued to try this restaurant after multiple suggestions and more so when we arrived to a packed house on a Sunday morning. They don't allow for calling ahead (no reservations), just first come first served. That being said, for two of us we only waited about 15-20 minutes. During your wait make sure to take a look at the delicious looking pies in the case, or watch them make their cinnamon rolls, or simply wander the restaurant looking at the wall art. Our waiter did not seem like he wanted to be there. Maybe he hates his job or maybe he was having a bad day. Either way I don't recall him smiling once and it genuinely brought down the mood. We started out sharing one of their famous cinnamon rolls which was pretty darn good. We were served a corner piece which was a bit too crisp for my taste but inside was nice and soft. It was very good! The main food was a big let down. I got one of the lighter options which came with one egg, grits, a biscuit, and I added a slice of bacon. The egg (over medium) was fried in a way the I had to really work at cutting just the edge of the whites. You shouldn't have to use heavy force to cut through an egg white. The grits were probably the blandest thing I've ever tasted. Perhaps they under salt on purpose but it was not to my liking. Now the biscuit was a total 180. It was delicious! The food, as always, was excellent. However, we ordered via a third party delivery service that was confirmed by the restaurant at 5:07. At 5:56, we are informed the restaurant has canceled our order, unable to fill. I go directly to the Corner Cafe website to order and says delivery not available, but I was able to place the exact same order for pick up (and did "save " $20 bucks since prices aren't inflated. However, the order was still delayed 15 minutes with slightly rude and apathetic girls bringing my curbside order. I get home and am missing a couple items, one I really wanted . I called and they said they would have at the front. I get there and wait a few minutes and chit chat with other patrons. The place is busy as usual. Fortunately, Kylie shows up. She is apologetic and empathetic to the situation. Her demeanor was perfect and as anyone in service should be. She retrieved my items and added a couple slices of pie to sweeten the deal.
