So very impressed with this visit! We got the $10.99 deal - cheeseburger, fries, pie - and it was delicious. But even MORE IMPRESSED with the service we received. We've traveled all over the country and we eat out each week. Being senior citizens, we've come across poor, mediocre and great service - but haven't seen THIS kind of perfection in treating a customer(s) for a long time! Eve was our server and she was on top of everything. We didn't have to ask her for a single thing. She anticipated what we would want before we asked for it. Never had to flag her down. She had 3 tables come in after us and she was so pleasant, patient and the little energizer bunny was so efficient that we will deem this the BEST visit we've ever had at this restaurant (and we've eaten there often). We told her how great of a job she'd done and come to find out, she'd been there ALL day, her choice to work a double shift! She said she works mornings but happen to take this evening shift - wow, we are glad she did. This gal is flat amazing. She gave total perfection in her serving us. Travelers seem to enjoy the pie here. No pie for this guy. I had a Southwest Salad...very good, huge portion with spinach, corn lettuce, spiced chicken, tortilla strips, cheese and red onion, with spicy ranch dressing on the side. Sophia and newly minted waiter extraordinaire, TJ, kept me in coffee and water. Very attentive, well-trained servers without hovering are a huge asset to the restaurant industry. Bravo to the manager working, too, as she was dealing with a large family group, in for Easter lunch...and pie. Your bakery items are tempting, but I have the willpower! We had a young lady named Cassie for our server today. She was beyond wonderful and asked all the questions up front to make sure or order was put into their system perfectly with nothing to chance. The food came out hot and fresh and perfectly cooked. Cassie kept us in fresh coffee and hot tea without disturbing us visiting with each other. In the last month, we have been to this location twice. Location: Perkins used to be a breakfast staple my friends and I frequented often. When they closed the Olathe location, I was heartbroken. So many memories! We were delighted to see the one in Gardner exists! Customer Service: 8/10 I will say our first visit experience was rough. The server disappeared for over 20 minutes before we placed an order. It also took forever for us to get the check. The second time we went, the service was a lot better. The server was more attentive and personable. For context, we visited this location both times around 7pm. Everyone up front is always so nice and welcoming. Food: It's Perkins so it's your standard breakfast options and then some. I have always favored them over IHOP. Their food portions are hefty and the food is hot. I had biscuits and gravy the first visit. The second visit, I had a Belgian waffle. Both dishes were really good and the breakfast potatoes were seasoned very well. The wait time for food is a little bit on the lengthy side (around fifteen to twenty minutes both times) but it is worth it with how hot and fresh it is. It was $35 plus tip for my hubby and I to eat here. Old Skool Vibes: I grew up in the late 80s, early 90s and places like Perkins and Denny's were always a vibe. This location reminds me of those days. It's never crowded and it is really clean with nice decor. The booths aren't ripped and gross and the tables are always clean. It brings back such good memories for me. Overall: 9/10 The food always hits and the customer service is decent. For a good breakfast meal, you cannot go wrong with Perkins. The only downside is the limited locations: Gardner and Grandview, which can be far for some. This will be in our monthly rotation of food places to eat and we look forward to our next visit! read more

nice family spot with breakfast, lunch dinner basics you'd expect. dessert case looked FANTASTIC! i had french toast, hubbie had blueberry pancakes. both well prepared & tasty as were the accompanying eggs & sausage. coffee was good - im not a coffee aficionado - but i used 1 less sweetener and 1 less creamer waitress was attentive & thought to ask if i wanted to cut powdered sugar on my french toast since i asked for SF syrup. and bonus was it was FREE PIE MONDAY! so we each got a free slice of pie since we each ordered an entree. it looked good, but it is as yet uneaten. we are on a road trip and got it to go. read more

The waitress Eve seated us and took our order. Eve had our food out in no time. I was surprised how quickly the food arrived . All the food was hot and delicious. Best blueberry pancakes I ever had & nice crispy beacon too. Eve checked on several times making sure we didn't need anything else. Now I can say I've been to a Perkins! My whole family ordered breakfast for dinner and it looked amazing. I ordered grilled salmon and vegetables. My husband recommend this place because he had eaten at a Perkins in a previous state. I myself was a little leery because of the reviews but agreed to try it anyways. The staff was very friendly! The facility was very clean and the food was AMAZING!!! I highly recommend the biscuits and gravy....heaven! I understand everyone's experience is different and people have their days. We need to remember ALL businesses have been short staffed and have struggled to find help / good help the last two plus years, there's going to be hiccups. Stop in and try Perkins if you haven't! We went to this restaurant on Sunday afternoon around noon, along with the church crowd. The reason this is getting 4 stars is because of the service. We were at the restaurant for over 10 minutes until we actively sought out a waitress. When she came she apologized quite a few times. That was nice. She was attentive and sweet about everything after that. Finally our food came. My husband got a giant breakfast with bacon, eggs, hash browns, pancakes and French toast. I got to try everything. It was so tasty. Buttery and light for the pancakes and French toast. I would order that and I don't even like breakfast that much! I got the chicken fried steak. This restaurant is horrible. I have problems every time I come but it's one of the few places my daughter can eat the food so I'm stuck. Went to pick up an order, the person taking the order got it all wrong " but she's new so there was no one to help her so it's not her fault." Don't put her on the phone if she's not ready is my response. Manager came out and was beyond rude and snappy and argued. I think next time I'll just drive to Olathe. I don't think I've ever come to the restaurant where the order was right or someone didn't spill something on me at the table. I did a Wednesday BOGO steak medallions with mushrooms and one was for takeout. The meal I ate in the restaurant was delicious. I decided to warm up my takeout meal two days later. The baked potato seemed fairly rigid when I tried to cut it up a bit but I thought it was because it was cold. No. It was because it was almost RAW, even after being in the microwave for 2.5 minutes. The service was just okay. She was a bit edgy when I told her I wanted a BOGO. Curtly mentioned that I had to buy TWO drinks. I responded that I was aware of that and said I would. I've been here several times and it typically does have better service than that day (Wed 6/27) and I've never received an order where something was raw before. We are traveling and I just saw the latest reviews and was so glad I didn't read them BEFORE we came here, or we might have chosen another place. I had absolutely the most tender and flavorful pot roast I've every eaten. Everything else was delicious as well. My husband had turkey and stuffing and loved it and we both thought the REAL mashed potatoes and gravy were delicious. We shared a piece of to-die-for lemon meringue pie. We used to like this place but there seems to be some internal issues here as the last few times we've been here they have been under staffed and way behind on people's orders. They sat us down at a table that had coffee rings in all four corners. Then we ordered pancakes for our granddaughter and it came out so cold that the butter wouldn't even start to melt as they didn't bring it out early as we asked. By far the worst Perkins in the KC area. Terrible staff and the place was a complete pig pen. Brought to sit at a dirty table and a quick wipe got the job done. Not really. Typically I go there just to have breakfast. However this breakfast my server couldn't have been more rude. Right off the bat she was rude to my friend and his girlfriend. Never once did I get a refill on my water. When I first ordered water she told me no. Then I get my food and my pancakes, but no syrup. When I asked for syrup the waitress asked me, "why do you need syrup?" Then proceeded to walk to the table right beside us and tell the gentleman there she was sorry it was taking so long and would be back as soon as she was done dealing with us. I enjoyed breakfast at this Perkins in Gardner last weekend. I had the classic eggs Benedict, and it was exactly that. Nice over easy eggs on top of ham and an English muffin with hollandaise sauce. Along with it were hash brown potatoes that were that were nice and crunchy. I also got a large muffin, I chose the cranberry, it was sweet and tart at the same time, served with butter, before my meal. The place was very clean, and the waitress was friendly and great. Buyer beware. If you plan on visiting during normal hours for breakfast , lunch , or dinner , be prepared to spend 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Not enough servers to handle a full dining room plus it takes 40 to 50 minutes to get your food after ordering , so , who knows what's going on in the kitchen. Then at best , the food is mediocre. If enough people stay away perhaps they will fix issues. Never see any management working on Saturday night anymore.
