We've been to other Barley's first time at this one. Parking is not the greatest as there are lots of businesses there so you may have to park in the back. Staff was great. This is one of the OG classical dive bars around Overland Park I remember visiting this place since 15 years never had a chance to write a review. You're gonna find amazing classical bar food here and everything is amazing. You should come on Wednesdays to try their half prize burgers. Their wings are outstanding. Their pizzas are great their bar, tender creative to make amazing drinks. Everybody will make you feel like you're part of the family. It's a family on good service. You have a great ambience. I remember they had a different outlook and then they have changed and upgraded a lot of stuff when I went this time if you're around this area that's a great place to hang out with friends. As most of you know, Barley's is my goto place for Fish and chips. While I have ordered other items off the menu and enjoyed each one, there is a 90% chance that the reason I'm here is for the Fish. Twinkle is super pretty- so many lights and fun photo ops. Their menu is creatively named- and our server was very kind and fun! The specialty burger I had was also very delicious. A few cons unfortunately were that the $13-15 drinks we ordered tasted like we were back in college-- and not in a good way. They list several ingredients, but the liquor just overpowered them all. They were quite busy, but had many staff members to share the workload. Once we received our food- the condiments and water refills we asked for took so long to receive that we no longer needed the condiment at that point. The meal prices are also quite steep-- many other local bar and grills serve equal quality food for more reasonable prices. I enjoyed my standard side salad, but $10 seems overpriced. read more

Stopped in for late lunch on Saturday, Parking was a bit of a pain since this is in a strip mall and shared parking with several other locations. We were seated right away, While waiting for staff to get our drink orders I grabbed the drink folder see what they had and was abrasively told by the waitress that I shouldn't look at that to to use the QR code on the page to see what they have because that is not up to date. Not sure why it was even on the table then, if you aren't suppose to use it. Food was good but didn't think there was any thing special or spectacular about it. My friend and I came here for the Twinkle experience. There was a cute photo op walking up to the door. As soon as we walked in I was overwhelmed. It was beautiful! So festive! Whoever did the decorating did an awesome job! We were greeted right away, and since they just opened, there were only a couple tables taken. I ordered the twinkle-tini espresso martini. This was the first martini I've ever had and it was delicious. My friend ordered the cotton-headed noggy muggins. Hers was very good as well. We started out with the Grinchy hot chicken bites. Very tasty. Crunchy on the outside with a little heat and we asked for blue cheese to dip it in. Yum She ordered the lock, shock, and wrap. I ordered the Halloween town birria pork sandwich. They were both excellent. We ended up splitting it so we could try both. I liked them both, not sure which one I liked better. I liked that they made the wrap a little crispy on the outside. The waitress was very attentive and came by multiple times to make sure we were good and if we needed anything. I wish I wasn't so full because I would've ordered dessert. Next time. Seriously not happy. This was basically a burnt zucchini pizza that they just threw in the box! This picture was taken at the bar as soon as it was handed to me, so I personally did not shuffle this around! I did however throw my kiddos leftover chicken strips and fries on the side to prevent using another to go container. Bartender told me they ran out of asparagus, okay I was a little irritated be sure I explained to him that the last time I ordered this pizza it wasn't correct. But this time, there were literally no other ingredients on this pizza but zucchini and maybe a couple strips of onion. Over it. Won't be back due to the fact they can't make a pizza. Went with a group from Book Club during their Christmas pop up and it was so festive! Love all the decorations; it definitely puts you in the Christmas spirit. Happy to see they had my favorite Torn Label beer on tap - Monk and Honey! Food was good, unfortunately it was not as hot as it should have been. Server was very friendly but seemed to have a lot of tables to cover. She was constantly running everywhere. Regardless, we still had a good time. We experienced a pop up bar today at this location and it was absolutely amazing!! They decorated the whole building ceiling to floor with Christmas decor and it was such a delight. They had the grinch (life size), and Santa! Other than that the staff was nice!! They even turned on another light for the kids to enjoy! The waiter checked in on us a lot and made sure we were okay! I had my three kiddos and he took it very well with all the chaos lol. I had the chicken Alfredo and it was soooo creamy and yummy!! Perfect dish! The only thing that could've been better was my mom ordered the pork sandwich and she got a Cuban sandwich instead, but it might've just gotten too hectic and he made a mistake! This was not our first time at Barley's, but it was our least favorite. First, we were seated in the very back & it was not busy or crowded. We ordered the charcuterie board, which we've had before, but it wasn't the same. It came out with no cheese & no chutney, but did have a giant pile of pickled onions & a giant blob of mustard. The server did bring some cheese slices after we asked about it. We also ordered fries, which were great, and some of the Stroud's chicken bites that my husband felt were just okay. The server acted as if she'd rather be anywhere else but helping us & we've never experienced that at Barley's - usually the service is very friendly & attentive. Loved, loved, loved how festive they have made there establishment. Even the restrooms were decked out with lights and a tree. So fun! Another on point detail was their seasonal menu. Every item on the menu was a holiday movie themed name, which made browsing the menu so fun and nostalgic and made you smile. Plenty of options from apps, pizza, burgers, salads, pasta and more. The food was great but the service was subpar. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, it was hot, juicy and delicious. The fries were cooked to perfection as well. We were in a large group so our server had assistance with bring the food out. The server that assisted was obviously annoyed with having to help when she brought out food out and asked "who ordered..." there was a little confusion and she just sat the order down on the table closest to us and went to the kitchen to bring out other orders. Disaster experience. Venue is nice. Xmas pop up is fun. Food came out at different times over 30 minutes. First meals were finished before the final meals were brought out. Manager Ty, said our appetizers were comped. And we would receive bogo coupons.Then they weren't all comped when the bill came. When confronted about the difference, he was a total jerk. Never were given the coupons either. Plus they add automatic 20% despite awful service. Bottom line, lots of places to eat around town, I wouldn't want anyone to have the same experience we had. This is a great lunch spot, the food is very good. It's a local crowd and the service an be spotty, but mostly good. I love that they have started bringing in some live music from time to time. The spicy hot chicken wrap is amazing! They have a great happy hour menu as well. Obviously a beer place, so the wine menu is very poor, but I get that (kinda). It would suit them well to have at least a few bottles of decent wine (or at least a good box or two). Nice local place close to home though. read more

I visited for the first time on St. Patrick's Day as I was looking for a place to have corned beef and cabbage traditionally, but also enjoy some nice quality time with a friend I hadn't seen in a while. I was delighted when I walked in and was instantly greeted by two people at the hostess stand. They flashed me huge smiles, and we're so grateful I was there. I couldn't have asked for a better greeting than that, especially for my first time in. I was seated in a booth toward the back of the restaurant, which worked out, and was away from the live music so we could talk. Taylan was my server and she showed me some of the best service I've ever had at a restaurant. I want to thank her for a wonderful day. I have gluten dietary restrictions. She went to check the label to make sure that Ginger beer was something that I could enjoy safely without me even asking her to do so. She also helped with the food, recommending the spicy hot chicken bites without the breading. They were delicious! I did have the corn beef and cabbage with potatoes meal as a St. Patrick's Day special. It did not disappoint! The corned beef was cooked perfectly. It was juicy. The potatoes were nice. The cabbage was great and the presentation was pretty as well. I had a wonderful time at Barley's and cannot wait to return. I am grateful for a restaurant like this and a server who is willing to help with dietary modifications. They do also have live music that was very enjoyable to listen to while we were there. I had a very average happy hour experience here recently. They have an excellent tap list. No complaints there. But I had a super hard time getting a beer. I sat at the bar which was maybe half way full and there was one bartender. If it was super busy I would've understood the delay but it wasn't. I'm not sure if the bartender was new or if he just didn't really care but I sat there for a good 10-15 minutes before I was able to order a drink. My next complaint is the advertisement for happy hour. Per their website on Monday they offer $4 local pints. We ordered two beers from what I would consider "local"-Fields and Ivy (I know it's in LFK but that's still somewhat local) and boulevard (which is for sure local). Neither was priced at the advertised price. I didn't say anything because 1. See my above first complaint and 2. I'm not fussy. But it's still irritating to try to have to guess WHAT is considered local or is included. They need some clarity on that. We also ordered a couple of happy hour apps, those were priced correctly at $6 each. We ordered the STROUD'S SPICY HOT CHICKEN BITES- A mini order of crispy, boneless chicken pieces fried with Stroud's famous breading. Tossed in mouth sizzling Stroud's KC Spicy Hot Sauce. Served with buttermilk ranch dressing. These were good and about what you'd expect. The hot sauce wasn't too spicy and the ranch paired well. We also ordered the BAVARIAN PRETZEL STICKS - Baked pretzel sticks served with whole-grain mustard & cheddar ale soup. Those were just meh. They were cold. The cheddar ale soup wasn't my thing. The mustard was alright. I probably wouldn't get these again because too many other places do a way better job. But the value and size was good for the price. They also have a deal where you can tab out from scanning the receipt and paying with your phone. This was pretty nifty because I probably wouldn't have been able to leave when I was ready due again to complaint number one. Overall, pretty average food, below average service, above average beer. Maybe they need to utilize a pour your own station. read more

Told bill could be split when we inquired but then refused to accommodate. Manager came over to apologize for delay and stated kitchen is trying hard but confused. Offered to comp the appetizers but then only did some not all as promised. Food was good , pop up decor was fun but the customer service was lacking. Disappointing. read more

Heart That Grew 3 Times That Day is the spinach/artichoke dip with veggies, pita, and tortilla chips. The service was slow last night, but they were slammed and the menu names were different for the server. It was obvious that Buddy the Elf didn't give them a lot of time to catch up with the changes. They are not prepared for their holiday pop up. It was very crowded, 20 min wait even with reservations & they only give you 90 minutes. We ordered an appetizer - asked for side plates to share it & none were brought. The fry oil was definitely burned - chicken tenders and fries were awful. The chicken thighs with brussel sprouts and rice was ok - it could've used a balsamic drizzle or some kind of sauce & the chicken was burned. 5 min before our 90 min reservation was up, they definitely burned something in the kitchen and our eyes were burning and watery. Our waitress was sweet & very nice. The decor was a lot of stuff hung from the ceiling & this is what everyone is coming for, but it just didn't hit the mark for me. read more

Elite customer service! So placed an online order tonight and order the bbq plate special (quarter chicken, pulled pork & sausage). Well minutes after my order I got a call from the evening manager. He had stated that they were out of pulled pork at that moment and wanted to know if I still want to place my order. I told him sure just double up on the sausage and that would be fine. Well I went to pick up my order not only did it have the pulled pork in stock they still doubled up my sausage. I rarely, if ever, post a negative review but I find myself doing it again for this Barley's. I suspect they are flush from their "snowglobe" experiment so they feel they can diss regular customers. The staff screwed up our reservation so we had to sit at another table and then we were told (by Taylan) that we needed to leave as others had reserved our table - nothing like being told you are holding up others' table reservations when the staff screwed up yours. When I said, the table was given to us after the original screw-up, she said "well you guys overstayed 40 minutes" on your last reservation," Hmm - first we had heard of this (no communication) but clearly she was tracking - at least us. When I pointed out the problem of asking us to leave when we were screwed on our reservation, I was told by Taylan, "you can patronize elsewhere" and, my favorite, " you can go now," Winning customer service. Barley's has always been a great place to go, since the food is consistently good and the drinks always satisfy. There are plenty of food options and all of them are an excellent choice. Once again, I forgot to get a picture of my food before I started eating since it looked so delicious. I ordered the steak frites with a side of French fries. The French fries are to die for. Perfectly crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. My only complaint is that I ordered the steak medium rare but it came cooked medium. I'm not one to send things back so I ate it anyway and it still satisfied. I ordered the Vacation martini to drink and it was absolute perfection. It made me feel like I was on a beach somewhere instead of in 30 degree weather. The atmosphere is that of a nice restaurant, but the vibe is like a bar, so it's a perfectly happy medium between a sports bar and a steakhouse. I came here for lunch during a Chief's game and my experience was just so-so. In the booth I was sitting in, my seat was facing the windows so I asked if the 2 TVs by the windows be turned on. The server told us they were broken. I then had to continually turn my neck and watch the game in an awkward position for the rest of the meal. The service was also slow despite the restaurant not being busy. In terms of food, I had the Stroud's Spicy Hot Chicken Sandwich and was pleasantly surprised. The chicken was nice and crispy with subtle spice. The only critique was that the top bun was much smaller than the bottom bun so it made the sandwich overall unequal. The rest of my party was not particularly impressed with the quality or taste of their meals. They said the flavor could be improved and most of them needed additional sauces. Overall, Barley's is a place with many beers on tap and just average food. read more
