My friends and I went to Barley's for lunch Saturday, April 18th, 11:30am. Our waiter was very personable and got us our drinks right away. He was also quite patient as we gabbed awhile before we even ordered. One friend got chesse quesadillas and liked them. The other friend got margarita pizza and enjoyed that. I ordered the Rustic vegetables and goat cheese salad. This is the description: "Veggies grilled until tender, served warm over mixed greens." When the salad was served it looked like a bowl of very wilted greens, nothing else was visible. Ingredients: mixed greens-wilted and tasted old grilled vegetables- had to REALLY search to find any! There were no red onions, no asparagus, mushy zucchini, sweet peppers cut into the smallest cubes I've ever seen, a few mushrooms, some goat cheese but, no pistachios. Tomato vinaigrette was ok I was extremely disappointed and upset! Ridiculous! The price wasn't overwhelming but, for $14.00, I should have gotten what was described. I attended this place as soon as it opened so the ambiance was peaceful and really quite at the beginning of lunch hour. Service was fast and friendly, the food was fresh and very tasty and the peach beer went along nicely with the smoked club and french fries. read more

We stopped in here to see a band and having never been before, had no idea what to expect. It is really big and rustic, when we were there it was decorated for Christmas and they went alllllllll out! They have a huge selection of beers and a few ciders on tap. We didn't have a reservation so we had to stand around for about 45 minutes, but they did get us seated on what the server said was the busiest night she had ever seen (Thanksgiving Eve). We shared a burger and a piece of their chocolate cake, it was all delicious. The service was really slow but, they were slammed and it was extra crazy with the band playing. Revisited Barleys primarily to hear the band. We ordered the Brewers board to start the night off. Wow. Very enjoyable and plenty for three as a starter. The sausage, pretzels, cheeses and those candied nuts! Mmmm. As with past experiences the service was slow. We were in relax mode, planned to be there for awhile and just hung in there. Later ordered a Hawaiian chicken bowl and a spicy chicken wrap to share. Delicious. Both the wrap and bowl had a great mix of flavors. Overall a great evening! Went to Barley's for dinner on Friday night and had an amazing experience from start to finish. We were seated right away, even on a busy night, and there was live music that created a fun, lively atmosphere. We ordered the made-to-order cream cheese pizza, and it was hands down the best pizza ever. The service is what truly made the night unforgettable. Melanie was absolutely incredible--the BEST server. She was friendly, attentive, and checked on us just the right amount. She had such a positive attitude, knew the menu well, and made us feel genuinely welcomed and taken care of. We stopped here for an anniversary dinner because we've talked about coming forever. We were seated really quickly for it being a Saturday night so we were pleasantly surprised on that front! They have a large drink menu and a lot of great beers on tap - I ended up having a strawberry lime hard cider and it was so delicious. For an appetizer we ordered the cheese curds which came out so crispy, and it came with marinara and a mustard sauce which was absolutely divine. My husband ordered the wings and fries and loved them. We both loved how the fries seemed to be double battered and fried, making them the perfect crispy texture. I got the Santa Fe burger and it was pretty good with the grilled poblano. I just wish the burger patty itself would've had a bit more flavor. I also felt so bad for our server because she had to constantly maneuver around a giant pole that was positioned in a horrible spot next to our booth. Overall though, we are ready to go back and try the rest of the offerings! read more

Yes, Barley's is my go to place for Fish and Chips. I suppose they suffer from the same issue other restaurants do, inconsistent staff. On this recent trip, they were busier than when I usually come, and we waited 15 min to be seated. Our server while pleasant, was not as friendly as other servers we have encountered here in the past. We ordered our appetizer, and waited til it arrived before ordering our fish and chips. As always, I asked for extra aioli, explaining that the small cup is not enough for 2 pieces of fish. When she returned with our plate, we only ordered one as the appetizer was pretty filling, there was one cup of the delicious lemon caper aioli and a second cup of something else. I inquired about it and she said it was garlic aioli. I told her we had asked for additional aioli that came with the dish, not something different. She returned shortly with a cup of lemon caper aioli. The fish and chips were a little overcooked and one piece was half the size as the other. Remember, we ordered the same thing every time as we were impressed with the fish and chips served in the past. So, while it was still good, it just wasn't up to their normal standard. To top the evening off, after clearing our table and asking if we wanted anything else, our server disappeared for just over ten minutes. I was surprised to see she had charged me $.50 for the garlic aioli that I didn't order. read more

Eating in Barley's has been a good experience however the "to go" is not good and therefore giving it 1 star. I have placed 'to go' orders twice and both times my order had missing and incorrect food. today, 8/16/26 we had an order totaling over $86 and of course I tipped only to get home to find the Bourbon Glazed Chicken Sandwiches had no bacon (which is in the description) and also an order of fries missing from the order. They are 0 for 2 when it comes to preparing "to go" orders for us. First time I tried online and it wasn't correct so thought I would call this in and still the order is messed up. This place is too expensive to not get it right. Offering for me to come back for the bacon is a joke. Also 2 chicken tender dinners with fries.....had about 10 fries each. I'm done with Barley's. Too many other places with great food who can get it right and don't skimp. read more

I'm going to start this off with off with I was there right before a musical group was going to perform that I knew draws a large crowd. So some of this review may not be a typical experience. If you come in and are expecting a table to eat or sit out PLEASE check in at the hostess stand!!! I had gotten seated at a table and was waiting on the rest of my party to show up. I had RUDE guest try and get me to move so that they could sit together as a large party, steal my chairs because I was by myself at the time. However the Staff was AMAZING!!! Our Waitress Bri (not sure is spelled correctly) and the manager handled all the rude customers like champs and were on top of it all night long!! Bri checked up on our table better that I have had an most places when they weren't busy, we almost never had to wait on a drink or food or anything and when we did it was a very short wait. I got the Cheddar soup as and App while I was waiting on everyone, It was a good size portion and had really good flavor. For my main I got the Fish and chips and my friend got the Bourbon Glazed Salmon. All food came out amazingly quick and were large portions. The fish and chips looked like I have two full size fish. I didn't try the Salmon but it looked really good as well. Drink wise they have a handful of signature cocktails and a full list of Spirits. If I remember correctly they had 99 beer options. Yes that is a lot but they have not only beer folders for the table for you to look at but also the TV displays that scroll the beer options. We were in town for a hockey tournament and our team manager gathered all the players and parents for an after game late lunch at Barley's.. It was literally walking distance from the hotel that we were staying so it's very easy to access. We entered the place and we were immediately directed to a large area. The ambiance inside is really nice, the feel of real sports bar can easily be distinguished. The server was very knowledgeable and catered to all our needs, apparently they are very well versed with a hockey team coming in for a big group dining. our server was very nice and very organized, he is the only one who handled everybody's order. We were 30 at a minimum so that was very impressive. Our order came in and it was served still hot, which is nice. The cheese curds with the dip is so god. I can't remember the last time I've had a fried cheese curds but these were really good. I asked for a list of their draft beers and the server said there are over 90, but suggested Yuengling.. so I got one and it's still very cold when served, felt like the glass was in a freezer. I ordered just the spicy chicken wrap and it's ok, nothing too special about it.. I like wraps because it's easy and clean to eat, nothing dripping like sandwiches or burgers. My wife ordered the Cuban sandwich and she liked the taste and the serving was really big, she can't finish all of 'em. My youngest ordered the alfredo pasta, and he liked it.. but was too sleepy to finish so we boxed it and ate it at dinner. When I think of Barley's I get excited to try new beers on tap but I generally expect them to be served cold-ish. Tonight I tried the Black Bean "dip" and although the flavor was great we thought we had mistakenly been brought soup. Served with pita and chips was a bit of a joke. Great service and there are vegan options with modifications. The veggie patty is vegetarian, NOT vegan. However, the salads are fantastic option and you can add avocado or additional vegetables for a small up charge. You can also get the bean deal and remove the cheese! We have someone in our party who is a huge club sandwich fan, they did claim their club sandwich is one of the best in the KC area. However, ask for it not toasted. We went to Barley's on a Friday night and it was fairly busy. We got sat down with no wait or reservation quickly. We waited around 10 minutes before we got our waters/when our waiter approached us. We ordered an appetizer and never received it and the waiter realized she never put the appetizer in. It's a simple mistake and can be due to technology but we were a bit disappointed with those two events. I got the Spicy chicken sandwich which is my usual go to due to how amazing the sauce is! It's a sweet and spicy chili sauce and I always ask for extra sauce to drench the sandwich in. The fries were cooked perfectly! The alfredo pasta was a bit bland as it didn't have much seasoning. The interior is really basic brewpub decor, although I loved the stage area and the couch seating available- what a fun place to chill! I'm not sure if they still have live shows planned (we came on a Tuesday night) but if so they have a great setup. I had the salmon pasta and Boulevards seltzer. The pasta was good, although it needed salt badly- and I usually don't salt my food. It had asparagus, red peppers, and spinach in a creamy sauce with angel hair pasta. Once I'd salted it, it was pretty tasty. The seltzer was really good, although I liked the blackberry one over the strawberry. My friends had the burger, tacos, and the spicy strouds chicken sandwich. Everything was fine, although could have used more flavor or seasoning. The chicken sandwich was pretty spicy but not outrageously so. Overall, it was good. I'd probably come in again to take advantage of their happy hour drinks between 3-6p, or maybe try some appetizers. read more

What a disappointment. We came on a Friday night with friends for drinks and dinner. It was 5pm so not too busy. We ordered three beers and a wine, the beer was warm and flat. When we asked the server about it, she said there cooler wasn't working that day, but was working again. It would have been nice if we knew that when we ordered. The server said she would talk to the manager to see if they could take the beers off the bill... I would think in the situation like that she would make that decision right then and apologize. After that, we ordered the wings with the sauce on the side and they were very good. Three of us ordered the keto bowls with mixed results. The mushrooms and the steak were lukewarm. One of the bowls didn't even have mushrooms. Steak was definitely not medium rare so overall a disappointment. The flavors were good just not prepared correctly. Our other friend had the shrimp and loved it. Overall, it was a very disappointing evening and sorry to say that we will not be back. read more

After my movie today I decided to have an early dinner at Barley's in Shawnee. I had been to the restaurant 3 times previously and always enjoyed the atmosphere and food but this time I had an extremely strange experience. I was seated in the dining side at the first booth by the young man who was at the front and informed there was a 1.5 hour time limit for dining. He went on to say that that shouldn't be a problem since the restaurant was not busy at the time. I was fine with that. Just wanted to treat myself to a nice dinner and leave for home. I looked over the menu (which was new) and had A LOT of time to admired the festival holiday decorations. Still no one to take my order after 15 minutes. In the meantime, a couple came in about 10 minutes after me and were seated. As far as I could tell we were the only customers in the restaurant at the time. A waitress walks to their booth (which is way past my booth) all the while staring at me. Again, no acknowledgment. After some moments she walks right past my table, never even acknowledging my presence. I know sometimes waiters and waitresses may serve different sections but they usually state this, especially after staring at a customer and then walking right past them, that the waiter or waitress would be right with you. But no.. just walked past like I did not exist at the booth. I waited another 5 minutes. Still no one to take my order. I left. If I have to chase down wait staff to order food then I don't need to spend my money at an establishment. I went to Paulo's restaurant instead which was in the same parking lot. They had great customer service and good food. All I can say is Barley's I'm disappointed in your wait staff and I won't be returning to the Shawnee location again. I don't need to spend my money at an establishment that does not know how to treat their customers. Or should I say some of their customers depending on the color scheme. read more

Many choices but nothing really good The prime rib was looked to be a perfect medium rare but it was dry. A food runner delivered our meals, but no one checked on us. Empty waters and drinks were never offered to be refilled. I had to go and ask for a box, and for the included kids ice cream.
