I decided to try the bar bites menu and eat in the bar this time. There is also a covered patio space, comfortable tables a few screen TVs to watch an my surprise, a lovely jazz trio. The bar bites menu is thoroughly enjoyable. The seafood was fresh and very flavorful. The beef Wellington bites are a must try. The service was very friendly and efficient. The happy hour times vary so make sure to check out their website. They also have a variety of signature cocktails. I will be back!

    PRIME NEW YORK STRIP

We had 7:30pm Mother's Day reservations and our mom might actually put me up for adoption now. The experience was insulting to mothers everywhere. It took an hour for the first half of our appetizers to arrive. Where was the second half you might ask? Great question. We asked the same, twice. The missing overpriced appetizer showed up a solid 30 minutes later. It sucked, but we were starving so we suffered through the borderline uncooked crab cake. Their signature dish! We're over an hour and a half in at this point. It would be another hour before our main entrees arrived even though we ordered them at the same time as the appetizers. We just sat there waiting with empty drinks, no food, and no communication from staff. Little did our starving stomachs know, we were in for even more disappointment when the mains arrived. Not a single steak was cooked correctly and the lobster mac and cheese was dryer than the Sahara. I'm not usually one to send food back, but I did this time. It was inedible. The waiter brought us regular mac and cheese instead. It ended up being the second worst Mac and cheese I've ever had, runner up to their lobster mac and cheese. They still charged us for the more expensive first attempt with lobster by the way. We planned on getting dessert but didn't have another hour to spare so we passed. Probably saved ourselves from more disappointment. Positives: they sat us on time. The cheesesteak rolls were mostly edible and unique. The bathrooms were clean enough. We won't be back:)

    Ahi Tuna Sandwich

I visited Sullivans on a business lunch, and had a great meal. I opted for the ahi tuna sandwich with fries, which was incredible! The tuna is served cold, cubed up and doused in a mayonnaise based sauce. Topped with slaw and avocado, it was the perfect refreshing sandwich (though a little messy to eat, you've been warned). The fries were also great and the parmesan was a nice touch. Service was friendly, but slow, given that the restaurant wasn't terribly busy for weekday lunch. The vibes inside are a bit formal, especially in the dining room, but you can opt as we did to sit in the patio area or front of the restaurant for a slightly more relaxed vibe!

Eric made our night. He was very attentive, funny, and even printed a picture of us for us to keep for our memories. We loved the food, experience, and everything! Highly recommend.

When I say LOVED this place. I dined here on 2/28 for my babes birthday and it was the best experience. He had the Cajun steak and it was so flavorful, crab fried rice, and the lobster tails. I had the lamb chops and they were exquisite. I will definitely be back here to dine again soon!!

Service was wonderful and the food was mostly good. We really loved the beef wellington bites, and the crab cakes were delicious. In our opinion the bone-in filet was quite tough to cut and the shrimp & lobster bisque was just ok. Enjoyed the ambiance and decor!

The Moderno salad -- with cherries, cured beef, pine nuts, and goat cheese -- was flavorful, though the espresso vinaigrette unfortunately tasted more like straight vinegar than espresso. I had the short rib bolognese and it was absolutely delicious. Others at the table ordered the Funghi pasta with creamy white sauce, which was good but could have used a bit more mushroom flavor. The Toscana chicken breast (bone-in) with sun-dried tomato sauce had that perfect "marry me" flavor -- rich and satisfying. For dessert, we had the Plate chocolate cake with raspberry and pistachios. It was a huge slice, with a rich chocolate flavor. So why not five stars? Despite having reservations, we were seated right by the kitchen where servers pick up food. Made more annoying because the restaurant had a lot of empty booths and tables in the main dining room. The upside was that the pizza ovens kept us warm, but it wasn't the most relaxing spot. There were also a couple billing issues: the tip was calculated on the post-tax total rather than pre-tax. Also our prix fixe dinners included dessert and we opted to upgrade to a different dessert from the menu. Oddly the up-charge was $6, even though the menu price difference was only $3. That said, Plate offers delicious, well-priced food (though the drinks are on the expensive side), and it's still a great choice for Italian food in Kansas City

My fiancé was craving a steak, so when I saw J.Alexander's had a Trout Almondine on the menu, we had to go. Our drinks took a while to come out, but it was a weekend dinner and the place was pretty packed. Our server was kind and apologetic. The drinks were a little strong so for the second round we switched to beers. My fiancé ordered the Prime Rib. It doesn't list it on the menu but it comes in a variety of sizes, all the way up to 32oz! He ordered the 20 and was very happy with how it came out. I was so happy with every part of my entree. The trout, broccoli, and couscous were all perfect. The portion sizes were huge, so we probably didn't need the Caesar salads to start. Unfortunately, the experience took a turn after I left. I accidentally left my Ray-Ban sunglasses on the table. I understand that was my mistake--accidents happen--but I've since called back twice to check if they were turned in and was told they were not. That's honestly pretty disheartening. It's frustrating to think that instead of being turned into lost and found, someone may have taken them. While I enjoyed my time there, this definitely left a bad impression. Just a heads up to others--be mindful of your belongings, as it seems like lost items may not always make their way back.

Decent option for dinner…read more I stopped by earlier this week on my first night in town, and sat at the end of the bar. The bartender served me a Guinness (on tap, of course!) and then recommended the Monday Steak Night special ($60) - a prix fixe option which included a salad plus one of four types of steak, sides, and dessert. I opted for the house salad (with sherry vinaigrette dressing), the hangar steak (he was selling it hard!), sautéed green beans, and lemon meringue pie. The house salad was superb, with delicious chunks of goat cheese! I also enjoyed the sautéed green beans, loaded with sliced almonds and fresh garlic. The hangar steak was probably the most disappointing, and solely responsible for this review not earning 5 stars. I took half of it to go along with half of the green beans. The lemon meringue pie looked delicious but I could not eat another bite, so that also went into a to-go container. Back in my hotel room that night, working late as I was jet lagged, I ate that pie. OMG! PURE HEAVEN!! And the main reason this review earned 4 stars! Will be back for the salad and green beans and pie! And some Guinness on tap, of course!!

Overpriced chicken, a stellar mushroom side, and an aggressive exit strategy…read more After some custom cocktails nearby, our famished group headed to Rye for some dinner and dessert. The space was nice and clean, but unfortunately, the service and the "famous" main course didn't quite deliver a stellar performance. Our table was split--some wanted dinner, some wanted dessert. This apparently threw our waiter into a state of deep existential confusion. The Food: I ordered their "famous" fried chicken, customizing it to three thighs (which came with homemade pickles and a fantastic ham gravy). For $24, it wasn't bad, but it's definitely not "famous" for flavor--maybe just famous for the price tag. Honestly, I could have filled up at Popeyes for a fraction of the cost. Surprisingly, the absolute star of my meal was the side of sautéed mushrooms. It came with little pearl onions, shallots, and green peas. I topped it with some of my friend's arugula to make it fancy, and it was delicious. The Service (or lack thereof): Here's where it went downhill. The dessert order became a saga. Those who ordered sweets expected them to arrive with the mains, but we had to ask several times just to get them toward the end of the meal. By the end, our waiter seemed completely frustrated with our existence. He aggressively boxed up the remaining desserts and semi-forcefully shoved the credit card machine into our faces to shuffle us out the door. Great mushrooms, aggressive math at the end. Proceed with caution.

We walked in and it reminded me of a hometown butcher shop. They had a variety of meats, cheeses, condiments, wine & other food related items. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It is a cozy place. You can get things to go or just eat there. We ate there I got the Reuben sandwich. Is it the best one in the area? I don't know as I have not been to every place in the area who offers a Reuben. However, it is the best one I have eaten. The sandwich was perfectly maid. The bread was a marble rye, not to thin and thick enough to hold together as you ate it. For the cheese you had a choice of Swiss or Gouda. I went with the Swiss. The sandwich was warmed up just enough to nicely melt the cheese. They make their own corn beef, which you can buy there as well. They had other things that they make themselves, like stuff mushrooms, which looked really good. The corn beef was excellent. With all that said, be prepared to pay $20 for that sandwich. Expensive, but I would say worth it. We also got one of their lunch specials. It was a 4" sub, chips and a soda for $10. As my wife said, it was just okay. The restaurant is really nice and upscale inside. It has super comfy chairs and booths and had a clean, modern aesthetic that suits the location really well. It's right next door to Aloft hotel in park place, and since my office is just across the street at Aspiria it was easy to find and the parking garage was super empty the night I went. My waiter was super helpful and had some really good recommendations as I have never been here before. There was a slight mixup in my order but I think it worked out for the better. So, all's well that ends well. The food was good. I didn't get what I ordered, but what I got was delicious. There was a special on the appetizer menu for fried oysters and French fries, but I got bbq oysters. The oysters were in the ballpark of chargrilled oysters you get in NOLA. Not exactly but similar enough, you know, butter, cheese, probably a little garlic and seasoning, very good. The oysters were tasty, although pretty expensive, and I only got 5. I don't know if this odd numbered food items is a KC thing or what but 6 please! I mean I can get a dozen in NOLA for just a couple dollars more. I know, I know, it's KC and we have to ship them in, but still. Since I didn't get the French fries I ordered the duck fat fries to go with my bbq oysters and they were good. You could really taste the duck fat, but it wasn't overpowering. The fries were crispy, but maybe a touch too much salt for my taste. All in all very good. I also splurged and got the waffle dumplings. They are veggie dumplings and were probably my favorite thing. Crispy and delicious. They are pressed and have the waffle pattern on them, hence the name. A lot of the menu is very Thai fusion, which makes sense, but be aware that it's not just a seafood place like the Bristol or Ocean Prime. Kinda pricey! My meal was $50 not including my drink, which was just a soda, so not the cheapest place in town, but I get it, this is the Midwest and seafood has to be shipped in to get it fresh and that ain't cheap. It was very good though, probably a 4.3 out of 5. A little less salt, one more oyster and I could definitely see this at a 4.8! Sorry no pics. I stupidly left my phone in the car, and I wasn't walking back to get it. Just imagine oysters and French fries in your head and you'll know what it looked like. Give it a try if you are in town, and get the waffle dumplings!
