We rolled into this little Park Place cocktail lounge with a decently sized herd, and they actually managed to corral us into a really nice area where we could all sit together. The space is quaint, remarkably clean, and our server was shockingly nice and attentive--a rare feat given our numbers. Against all odds, the food and drinks actually hit the mark, too. A friend and I decided to split the crab dip. The crostini managed to stay crispy, and while the dip itself was a tad on the salty side, it was still genuinely tasty enough that we didn't leave any behind. Someone else in the group ordered a burger and muttered through chews that it was really good, while the rest of the table cycled through an assortment of boozy and zero-proof drinks--all of which were expertly crafted. For my first round, I ordered the El Diablo. It's a mix of tequila, mezcal, fruit juices, and árbol chili, and it was extremely refreshing with just enough of a spicy kick to keep things interesting. I followed that up with a Bourbon Bramble, featuring bourbon, blueberry, and a few other mysterious ingredients thrown in for good measure. Stumbled upon this beautiful bar after a friend's birthday dinner. We were walking around Park Place after dinner and wanted to take the party to another location. It was a Sunday evening, and the bar had just two couples inside. We sat ourselves in one of the cozy corners with comfortable couches, seats, and circular tables. Their physical menu only had drinks, but there was a QR code that showed a more comprehensive menu, such as other alcoholic drinks, non-alcoholic drinks and small plates. We all ordered different drinks, and I got the Matronae's Blessing. My drink was tequila and vodka based with white tea shrub, lychee, soda, and lychee pâte de fruit, which is a traditional French jelly candy. Among all the drinks I tried, mine was the favorite of the night. The lychee really shined through, the soda was refreshing, and the pâte de fruit was the best surprise - chewy, sweet, and bursting with lychee flavor. Sadly, I don't have a photo of the drink, but I will be back to order this again! Aside from the great drinks, the bar itself is beautiful. The three arches behind the main bar holding the liquor are brightly lit around the edges to have a glowing effect, the bar table has light underneath that accentuate the dark green/blue color, and the rest of the bar is dimly lit to let the details really shine. You bet we did a mini photoshoot once all the other patrons left. The servers were not only great at making drinks, but they were kind enough to take some group photos for us! Interesting place for cocktails. All the seating is a bit uncomfortable, hard chairs inside with backless couches outside. You have to secure your reservation with a non-refundable fee, but is applied to the tab. Selection of cocktails didn't seem overly creative and they were out of some menu items. They don't list that they have a happy hour on their site whatsoever but I did find out there is a happy hour 3 to 6, they offer three dollars off of select cocktails. Not a huge discount to be honest but it does help when their cocktails run about $18 each. I ordered the whiskey smash, which comes with whiskey, strawberry, guava, lemon, and Maraschino. The taste was there, but also, so was the ice. I couldn't believe how much ice was in my drink. It was so overfilled that the ice was almost falling out of my glass. Everyone gets "carded" so don't forget your ID or you will not be served (even if you are a senior citizen). The reservation system is complicated and a cc is charged for the reservation. They state they will put that credit back onto the check, however, when cashing out with separate credit cards they would "forfeit" my CC deposit if the bill was separated vs shared by everyone. I mention the seating scenario because this was my first experience here, and it was a bit off putting to be greeted in this way when we were the only patrons in the place. The worst part was we ordered a margarita and a half glass cost $24. A margarita cost more than most of the crafted cocktails on the menu. This will be our last visit. So what can I start off by saying about this place... Umm, the drinks are AMAZING and include so many alcohols/ingredients that I've never heard of (seriously, I was on Google to figure out some of the ingredients). The service is great, and location is within an outdoor mall with a lot of cute shops. So let's talk about drinks. First of all, for a small place, they have a lot of drinks to choose from. The menu (at least for Spring 2022) was split into 4 categories: classic, rich, light, and imperial cocktails. Honestly, I have no idea what those words refer to, but the server was super knowledgeable about drinks and gave us suggestions from each of the lists of we were leaning in a certain direction. I got the South Hyde Park, which was super refreshing with Thai basil, serrano pepper, and lime--and to top it off, it had this amazing foam on top. It was a spicy but if you like a good spicy cocktail, it was really balanced. The other cocktails were given thumbs ups from my friends, even though some erre definitely not the colors that they assumed they'd be! While we went in for a quick drink before going to dinner, we also got the smoked popcorn, which was, quite frankly, MIND-BLOWING. I'm not usually a huge popcorn fan--yeah it can taste fine, but I'm not going out of my way to get it. However, if all popcorn was like this popcorn, then I'd be getting it all over the place. It had a great mix of spices on it, and it was super addictive. Cannot recommend the smoked popcorn enough! And I already mentioned this previously but I can't leave a review without talking about the service--it was fantastic and both of our servers were patient and shared recommendations and their thoughts with us (since of course I asked a lot of questions). The cocktails were on the same price point as most cocktail bars (but actually more reasonable than I would have expected). I am all for a fun cocktail but $25 for a Manhattan? It better be the best Manhattan ever! I did enjoy the Bramble cocktail. It was refreshing and perfect for a summer evening on their patio. My husband first ordered the Oaxaca Old Fashioned but something happened behind the bar because it was so spicy that even he could not get past the first sip. The only explanation was that perhaps they had splashed some capsaicin drops in it from another order. He then ordered the Manhattan which was fine. This is the place to go if you're looking for dramatic, theatrical cocktails but be aware you will pay a hefty price. read more
