OH MY. I really didn't think Concord was capable of having really slammin' ass Korean food. Boy, oh boy, was I wrong. Sooooo delicious!!!! Gosh, I'm drooling RIGHT now just thinking about it. Ordered #26: mixed veggies, beef, and fried egg with rice served on a hot stoneware bowl. Damn, good! Love the sizzle and decent price of $10.95! Whoop. My friend, a regular, introduced me to Korean BBQ plus. The chef went to a well known culinary school in Korea. They have some of the best pancakes here! We ordered the SEAFOOD PANCAKE and it was delicious, even more so when dipped in the soy vinaigrette! Their sides were very authentic. I couldn't get enough of the pickled bean sprouts and daikon! I was craving the SAM GYE TANG all day (the very traditional Cornish hen soup with rice and ginseng). Even though it's a dish on the menu, they don't have it regularly/on a daily basis. Because they didn't have it the day I went, they were very apologetic and brought me complimentary spring rolls AND steamed egg. Instead, I went with the DDUK GUK BUL GO GI and it was equally amazing. How can you go wrong with bul go gi and rice cake soup?The soup was sweet and savory. The scallions added a nice touch. I hardly ever get BBQ here but it's good. I usually come here for the Sul Tung Tang & Yuk Kal Jang (soups) that hit the spot for me when I'm craving something hot, good, and comforting. The management here has changed once or twice from what I've noticed but I like the current management now. Plus, this place always give you a multitude of banchan. Now, some of these banchan items are not the most needed/wanted but the thought is nice. The japchae for free in the beginning of every meal is also quite nice. I saw an article written by the Concord Patch about this place and I was surprised I'd never noticed it before. I go to Hankook Market on Monument and these are next door to each other. I also love the Taqueria that is a stone's throw out the front door. Anyhow, the Patch author said it's a hidden wonder and that it is! I really like Korea House in Park n Shop but I think this place is better and offers a greater variety of tastes. There was one woman serving all the tables and from where I sat I could see one man cooking. They were both incredibly busy as almost every table was full at 12:30 on a Wednesday. I sat and waited several minutes before getting the menu, but was immediately presented with a hot tea that was very refreshing. 3 ladies seated at a nearby table were talking about how great the food was and I commented to them I've only had Korean food at Korea House. They all knew of it and said it's wonderful but agreed this is better and recommended I try #1. It's a Bento-style meal with short ribs on a hot plate. I ordered and was then given a delicious small noodle bowl. I've read this is to ready your palate. It could have used hot sauce but was tender and tasty. THEN... 13 (yes THIRTEEN!!!) other small bowls were brought to the table. I tried them all and liked some more than others, and some quite a bit more than others. It was unreal. Shortly after those my rice bowl and steaming rib plate arrived. It was all soooo good. The meat was a little fatty but tender and the top pieces were very rare. (I like this but if you like your meat cooked more, just move it around on the plate, since the bottom pieces continued cooking pretty much the entire time.) I took a picture of the food as it came out. It was very picturesque but mostly I wanted to show my fb friends since it looked so yummy. Another family left and talked to me on their way out (maybe because I was eating alone? Or maybe the whole picture-taking thing is funny to some people) but they commented and said "this is a fun experience, right?" I whole-heartedly agreed!! There was a lot of food and no complaints. Good ban Chan selection, you get 10 side dishes which were all good to me. Some places will only give you 4 or 5 dishes. I had the Kim chi fried rice. It has not only Kim chi but zucchini and little bits of beef. I am not doing eggs and I asked them to leave it out - which they did so they got my special order right. The flavor was good and I enjoyed eating it with the side dishes. It was just the right amount of food for me and I have a big appetite. The service was friendly and excellent. Just enough checking in but not intrusive. The place is clean as well. I had stopped to eat while waiting for some of the commute traffic to pass. read more

Just finished having dinner here earlier and I have to admit that I'm glad the place we had original planned to go eat at was closed tonight. We showed up at 9:25 PM. The waiter was kind enough to seat us even though it was already five minutes before closing and thank goodness he did because I didn't want to look for another place to dine at. After he took our orders, the food came out pretty quickly. My son ordered the kalbi tang without onions and he was very happy with his food. He said he would come back just because they remembered to leave out the onions. He's a lot like me in that aspect. Neither of us likes onions in our food & we get pretty upset when we ask for them to leave the onions out, yet they still don't. We also ordered the mul naeng myun, the spicy pork and dolsot bibimbap. Everything we ordered were good, even the banchans were tasty. I'd definitely come back here if we're in the Concord area and craving Korean food, but we do have a lot of choices in the Oakland area when it comes to really good Koreans. read more

Well, I had an hour for lunch today and decided to return. I was thinking of giving it 4 stars today not remembering my prior review with 5. And that was only because they do not have yuk hwe and the AC was blasting on a cold day. I did not bring a jacket and was freezing.On top of that stupid me ordered a cold dish: mul maeng myon, something I only get when I'm alone since no one else in my circle likes this despite my sweetie loving Korean food. It's a cold broth with ice in it with buck wheat noodles (diameter like pho not soba) a few slices of cooked cold beef and some pickled cucumber and radish. You add your own mixture of mustard/garlic. It was actually one of the best versions I've had. The banchon were plentiful and delicious.I was the only non-korean in the place. So despite the temperature and no raw beef I still give it 5 stars. I will so miss good Korean food when we move to Europe in February. read more

Out of all the Korean spots in the 925 area, this place is easily our fave. Every time we have come here, service has been fantastic. Pan-chan has been always plentiful and delicious. All the dishes from the Dolsot BiBimBop to Chap Chae to Duk Book Ki to the BBQ...everything is authentic and spot on. Hallelujah!! I have finally stumbled upon a Korean BBQ restaurant NOT located all the way in San Francisco that serves deliciously authentic Korean cuisine. Yes, my favorite Korean BBQ joint (My Tofu House), is located in SF, but I cannot help but pat myself on the back for finding this fine local jewel (that is just a short drive from my place!). My bestfriend and I ordered the short ribs marinated in special sauce, white rice, and the soft tofu with pork and zucchini spicy stew. Like all authentic Korean BBQ restaurants, the food we ordered was served with an assortment of banchan (side dishes such as spicy pickled cabbage also known as kimchi, sweet sardines, bean sprouts, and more). And for dessert, complimentary sweet rice water is served at the restaurant. I must also point out their super attentive service. The lady server was so on point that our water glasses never, ever reached half empty. She even gave us a soft egg concoction on the house! If you are new to Korean BBQ, please take my word for it and order the short ribs (also known as "kalbi"), and any soft tofu soup of your choice. Order those two things, or anything else on their menu at that, and everything will seem to miraculously come together--like a sweet (or should I say spicy?) symphony in your mouth. read more

We were a little scared at first when we walked in. The place is a bit of a dive. Service also started out really slowly and since we were one of two groups there at the time, unwarranted. That said, once we finally were able to order our meals, the food came out quickly with a ton of side dishes. I love these little dishes and they had a really good variety, all delicious. My husband always orders Dolsot Bibimbap at Korean places and that is what he got or some variety of (tofu only I believe). I went with one of the hotpots. We also ordered steamed dumplings for my son. The food was all excellent. Very flavorful. The steamed dumplings were clearly housemade. We were very pleased with everything. read more

A true diamond in the rough... I don't know how long it's been here, but I've been living down the street all my life and I'm kicking myself for not finding this place earlier. I must say, this has some of the best Korean food I've ever had. It could be because I was starving when I went, but at the same time I eat Korean food all the time. This place is great because it's not flashy, and has that homey/family run business atmosphere. Everyone is really helpful (which is typical of Korean restaurants). What probably surprised me the most is that my family was given 15 side dishes to start... an amount which I want to say doubles any other restaurant I've been to. I was blown away. The food my family ordered (jap chae, bulgogi, bibimbap, a soup) was finished by my family, with rooms in our stomachs to spare. I don't say that because the servings were small, because they were definitely not. My family enjoyed it so much that they wanted more when all was finished. My parents don't eat non-Chinese Asian food often, but they surprised me (along with Thai food the other day). After 23 years, my parents are turning a new leaf. =) Will I come back here, DEFINITELY. Weird how polarizing this place is. I'm on the happy side of the spectrum. Great food, fresh ingredients, tons of side dishes. My favorites are the bibimbab (cold and hot stone), spicy pork bulgogi, and seafood pancake. Minor negative things: I've tried a lot of things on their menu and a few things are probably not for everyone (intestine stuffed with rice noodles anyone? -just had to try it once). Beef ribs (galbi) are tasty but fairly small portions. Service is friendly even though they don't speak much English. My boyfriend and I came here for tonight(a couple nights ago) because I was craving for some spicy pork. I've passed by this place a million times because I live nearby but I never stopped to try it out. Came in and I was kinda surprised by how it looked because it was totally different than what I expected. Our waiter was nice, buff looking dude. Took us awhile to order because there wasn't that much to choose from, mostly because I didn't know anything off the menu besides the bulgogi ($18+) that we ordered. The prices were kinda steep but in a way I understood because of the panchan. (Maybe sorta kinda understood haha) Anywho, it took awhile for the panchan to come out, it was almost a packed room. Maybe 2 minutes after we received the panchan, we got our bulgogi on a "steaming" plate, which wasn't steaming haha it was warm, not hot. The bulgogi lacked flavor, I had to shove mine around the hot plate to get some flavor on it. After we finished, we kind of waited for our waiter to come back with our check. My boyfriend asked the waitress (an older lady with her hair in a bun). She seemed kind of rude, maybe stressed because it was getting busy but I felt kind of awkward after she just grabbed our check fast. Mehh~ We must come back for their lunch specials. read more

We went to Korean BBQ Plus in Concord today at lunch and requested for a table for 7. It ended up that one could not come. The waitress misunderstood that there were 10 and she set up the table for 10. As we all arrived and told her we need only a table for 6, she pulled her long face and with very bad attitude mumbling that we asked for a table for 10. The restaurant at that time was empty. She brought the plates and utensils to the table with extremely bad attitude as if we owed her. We asked if she had any problem, she didn't reply. We ended up leaving the restaurant as we didn't know if anything other than food would be in our dishes. We used to go to this restaurant quite often and the service used to be very good even though we saw different servers almost every time we went. With such a bad experience, we would not go back and would tell our relatives about our experience. Hope the owner sees this review and get some better staff. For sure if the owner keeps this lady staff, the business will be dwindled in no time as her bad attitude would easily drive customers away. read more

What a disappointment lunch today. It was very good before all the renovations when the two korean sisters were still running it. The service: Today the waitress was like day dreaming. After putting the food on the table she was behind the counter constantly on her phone. She didn't even bother to look up. Not even check on the tables once. The food: Korean cold bucket noodles just one Piece of beef... ONE super thin slice! Luckily we ordered two more meat dish. But the spicy pork doesn't taste right. Even covered with spicy heavy sauce we still can taste it's NOT fresh. I brought it up to the waitress about the pork she didn't seem to care just walked away with no response at all. Three dishes and those side dishes normally will be more than enough for two people. But I left the place still hungry. One star for the Short rib dish. One star for the side dishes. Korean BBQ Plus was the worst Korean BBQ restaurant I have ever been to. I was seated pretty promptly but that was the extent of the prompt service. Though the staff seemed nice, they were not being attentive at all. I ordered three dishes but somehow two tables, who came in 20 minutes after me, received their food, and free side dishes before me. The side dishes were room temperature and did not taste fresh. I ordered a seafood pancake, some broiled chicken in special sauce, and a tofu bi bim bop. The seafood pancake was so soggy that I only ate one piece, the chicken was so spicy that I couldn't eat it even thought I requested it mild. The tofu bi bim bop contained some strange ingredients like black olives that threw the taste off. Overall I probably ate two or three bites of each item before I asked my boyfriend if it was o.k. to leave. Our entire dining experience was over 1 1/2 hours. It took an hour to get my food. 10 minutes to decide it was not worth eating and 20 minutes to pay. We both went home sad and had junk food for dinner. My only compliment goes to the young man who was waiting on all the tables. He was rushing around like a mad man but always smiled and tried to be as polite as possible to everyone. I appreciated his work ethic and ability to work in a tough situation. read more

And man, there were a lot of Koreans! We got there around 6:30, and there were maybe 3 of 15 tables taken.. and by the time they served us the banchan, almost all the tables were full! This place has ALOT of banchan, A LOT! Take a look at the pics... Also, they serve Jap Chae (glass noodles) as an appetizer, which I think is essential. It doesn't have all the meat and fish cakes as a full fledged serving, but it satisfies the craving. We ordered the Kal Bi, the Dae Ji Bul Go gi, and the Godenguh Gui... all were amazing. I do want to try their other dishes next time, as the bim bim bap, and the kim chi jigae looked craaaackin! (Was just to hot for soup!) Servers are sorta attentive when its not busy, but when it's busy, it takes a while to flag someone down to fill up our waters. Overall, I think this place is great, on par with most non AYCE prices, and I'll definitely by returning here again! Beware the 100 speed bumps in the parking lot... Low Cars... This is a great little Korean restaurant with really good food. We came for a Saturday lunch and had he Galbi. The meat was very well prepared, full of flavor and tender. They have a great assortment of pan chan (all the little dishes of kimchi and other tasty treats. They even had an unusual and quite refreshing celery kimchi - never had that type of kimchi before. This place just keeps getting worse. First they raised their prices and changed their items on their specials menu. Even worse, they have become impossibly stingy with their banchans. When we asked for a refill after ordering one of their most expensive BBQ dishes, they only refilled under half of the empty banchan bowls and they put two items of each in each bowl. Two pieces of potato in a banchan bowl!!? The ladies were so busy socializing that they never bothered to check on us even though we were the only customers! 3.5 stars but I always round up. Food is always tasty and consistent here. They also bring out a dozen or so sides, which is great. Each person gets their own japchae side, which I think is SO nice (it is my favorite side dish). It comes with the usual kimchi, miso spinach, radish, potatoes in a sweet sauce, etc. I usually get a grilled meat (Galbi is $25 for dinner/weekends) and a soup.
