I visited Kona Grill on July 7, 2026, and Jaron was my server. Overall, it was a decent experience, but nothing really stood out. I'd rate both the food and service around a 3.5 out of 5. Jaron was friendly, though it sometimes took a while to get his attention when we were ready to order. I was also expecting a larger menu selection. That said, if you're looking for a place that's open late, Kona Grill is still a solid option.

Best happy hour in Central NJ! With a wide variety of small plates in the price range of $3 to $9, you can't go wrong. There's something for everyone! Tons of affordable drink options on the happy hour menu as well. I've always had great service, whether sitting at the bar or a table. The atmosphere feels slightly elevated with contemporary art, sushi rolling area, a fish tank, etc, yet still feels casual & comfortable. Their kitchen consistently produces high-quality food with great flavor, every single time.

Definitely one of my favorite happy hour spots. Affordable food options and *Take care of theBartenders and they take care of you* Service is amazing and I love chatting it up with the bartenders. Good vibes and you can def meet good people here that's kill time from the local hotel. Also great spot to watch games and spots bet of prop bets lol

Absolutely 10/10!! Came here for the first time with my hubby celebrating our wedding anniversary and I was blown away with how great the food and service was! Shane was an excellent waiter and knew how to recommend us the best food! My hubby and I had the salmon and lemon chicken pasta with the sake red sangria...omg 10/10 I've been craving it ever since lol! Cant wait to go back to such a relaxing and delicious atmosphere!

Came to Kona Grill on a snowy Sunday night for dinner with my sister. It was relatively quiet because most people I'm assuming decided to stay cozy inside. We started off with having the spicy shrimp tempura and that was not a hit. We did not enjoy it. Something about the taste threw us off. Then we got the crab crunch rolls which was okay but I've honestly had better sushi at Shop Rite. Then for my meal I wanted something light so I got the Asian Salad. The Asian Salad wasn't too bad but overall the food did not taste fresh to me. The restaurant just did not give cleanliness in terms of the smell so I think that contributed to me not enjoying my food as much. It had this old smell to it and then I went to use the women's bathroom and the floor was super sticky. Like it looked clean but when I was walking my shoes were sticking to the bathroom floor. Our booth was nice and roomy but the sits had some tears in it. Overall I will say that the restaurant looks decent but there are things that contributed to the unattractiveness for me personally. I guess if the food was fire the other stuff wouldn't have bothered me as much. You definitely tend to notice more things when the food isn't too good. As for the service, the service was AWESOME our waitress was super nice and friendly. So I will say the service was great.

Let's start of by saying the service was great. The waitress we had was friendly and attentive. That being said the restaurant as a whole could use some upgrades and there was a hint of an odor that lingered in the air. Overall the food was a miss for me. Maybe it had to do with what I ordered or the fact that it was a snowy night but the food did not taste fresh. The spicy tempura shrimp had an after taste and instead of being spicy it was more lemony 3/10. The crab crunch roll was good, but did not taste as fresh as sushi I had in the past 6/10. For my main I went with the Asian salad, and the Asian dressing they added to the salad was actually pretty good but once again the salad itself wasn't fresh 7/10.

Kona grill is a fantastic spot specifically for their happy hour deals! They have a standard happy hour as well as an evening HH (I believe it's 8 or 9PM onwards). The HH deals have a decent selection of drinks and apps at a discounted price. I don't think I would come to pay full price for the apps/ entrees (it did feel a little overpriced for what it was). We started with the 2 for $25 sushi deal (we got a vegetarian sushi roll and a tuna avocado roll) and then got a few HH apps. The only app I don't recommend is the angry edamame- we have a pretty good spice tolerance and we couldn't even make a dent in this dish. The decor was nice, service was great and a nice vibe overall!

Came to have an early breakfast with the family for Father's Day. The place was able to get us in and it was quite empty. Servers were fast and overall the service was good. There was plenty of parking and the overall atmosphere in the restaurant is fine. I did notice the cups were not washed very well and it grossed me out a little bit. Food wise I thought everything tasted very basic, the sunny side up eggs tasted off and everything was just pretty basic, we were hungry and the food was fine. I wouldn't necessarily say it set off my flavor senses.

Easily located off Rt 1 South and ample parking. Many interesting Asian-influenced items. I've been here a few times and noticed that the sushi is significantly more expensive than local family-owned sushi restaurants. Our waiter Hasan was friendly and even brought out extra Bibb lettuce for the "build your own" Lettuce Wraps as we had run out. However he must've been assigned more tables after our entrees were delivered because we didn't see him much afterwards and our water glasses needed a refill. The food was significantly more spicy than we remembered or anticipated, especially the Chicken & Shrimp Lettuce Wraps which tasted like the filling had way too much heat added (perhaps chili garlic sauce or sriracha). I liked the option of the Sushi & Salad, but again no real option for just a Tuna or Yellowtail Roll without a spicy addition, though I eventually decided to get the Spicy Yellowtail Roll and asked for it without sriracha. Of course the BBQ Chicken Flatbread was spicy as well. Next time we will ask for no added spice in all of our dishes as we like to taste the proteins without the added heat.

Happy hour dumplings... were warm, not hot.

I will say what attracted me to this restaurant was the menu and drink selections that I saw online, in addition to their happy hour. However, the happy hour was hilariously skimpy. I don't even think the margaritas were four or 5 ounces. I ordered the chicken appetizer and got one. I ordered the dumplings and got three. The service was a little iffy and I felt bad for the bartender because it was clearly his first night on the job and he seemed lost. I would agree with most of the other reviews left for this restaurant in that it's mediocre at best. For a place called Kona. I also expected a little bit better, ambience and vibe, but it was pretty standard for the bar scene.

Experience great and attentive waiter, so Service 5/5 I wish I could say the same for the food. Menu extensive but quite expensive for quality and tiny amount of food received.Looks everything is driven by Happy Hour starting at 2pm. But who eats lunch at 2pm on a weekday. Will have to come back during happy hour to try more.

Very nice restaurant. The ambiance of this place is very nice and they have a great happy hour that includes many menu items and is priced very well. The menu is also very diverse and offers different cuisines. The quality of the food however....the definition of basic. Nothing to write home about but if you just want to meet up for a drink with some friends without breaking the bank then this is the place. It's convenient, the service is good and it's not that pricey. But you get what you pay for...

This was the chicken and macadamia nut sauce beyond delicious illegal. It was so good. It should've been illegal.

Ask the Community - Kona Grill

Is the cilantro lime chicken main entree still a menu item? I'm not seeing it on the menu for ordering but it's available at every other Kona location.

    Is there indoor dining?

    As of today 02/12/21 yup.

Is outdoor seating still available? Are the windows open in the outdoor patio to allow for air circulation

Yes but no heat unless you sit in the patio. You have to ask them to open the windows.

From what I've heard, it usually gets packed during peak sports seasons--but we happened to hit a lull (post-football, pre-baseball, and no major games on), so we basically had the place to ourselves. That actually worked in our favor--the quieter atmosphere made it easy to relax and enjoy conversation without the usual sports bar chaos. Drinks were a highlight. I went with the sangria, which was refreshing and well-balanced. Instead of ordering full entrees, we decided to share a bunch of appetizers. Everything that came out looked great, and everyone in the group seemed really happy with the flavors. As someone with a gluten allergy, though, I was pretty limited in what I could order. The ribs ended up being one of my only real options--but thankfully, they were tender, flavorful, and definitely the standout for me. Still, I do wish there were more gluten-free choices, especially since we were there to celebrate and share food. One thing that stood out (in a not-so-great way) was that we felt a bit rushed toward the end of the meal. We didn't even get the chance to order a birthday dessert, which was disappointing given the occasion, but seeing since it was only our group there I'm sure they were ready to close and go home. Service overall was attentive and friendly while we were dining, so no complaints there otherwise. It was winter when we visited, but I can see this being a great spot in warmer months--the outdoor seating looks like it would really add to the experience. Parking was easy on a Sunday night, and they do have a lot, but make sure to read the signs carefully since some spots are reserved for the theater next door. Overall it has a great vibe, solid drinks, and food that people clearly enjoy--I just wish there were more gluten-free options so I didn't leave still a little hungry.

I am still disappointed by the lack of response from the corporate office on this matter, but the Edison location was extremely helpful in resolving my issue. Initial review: My wife and I have been going to True Food Kitchen for a while now, and really enjoy their healthy food options, but their recent lack of customer service is very disappointing. We recently purchased a gift card for True Food Kitchen but when we had problems with it, the local restaurant wasn't able to do anything. We reached out to the company they parner with for the gift cards, who told us to reach out to corporate. I left two voicemails with True Food corporate with no response, in addition to leaving email with no response either. I would appreciate it even if they couldn't do anything that they would at least get back to us and let us know that, but nothing. I commend True Food for offering such healthy eating options for people but without good customer service, I can't see it really lasting for long.

NOTE: Be very careful about using any dining credits from Open Table here. I saved up points for like a year and got a measly $16. When deciding on which restaurant to choose for Brunch today, we noticed True Food was in the Open Table network, so I would be able to use the credit there. When we arrived the place was pretty empty. Strange for the time of day. Bad sign #1. They walked us to a large table. The table was soaking wet and the hostess laid our paper menus on the puddle of water, never acknowledging the fact that the table was wet. Bad sign #2. I used my napkin to dry off the table and asked the waiter for another. He was very cordial. It was noon on a Saturday, so we assumed they would provide us with the Brunch menu (since that is why we came) and we had to ask for it - a measly 4 items on this menu, so options were few. Bad sign #3. Our server and the taste of the food were the only positive things about this trip. At the end of the meal, I followed the Open table directions and clicked on redeem in front of the waiter. It seems a Mastercard number pops up and since the server nor the manager knew how to do the dining credit, she said it was declined and could give me a 10% discount. Our meal was only $30, maki g that like $3 I said that I had to use the dining credit here since I booked our reservation which is tied to the credit and I would lose the dining credit. The manager was very demeaning and I reminded her that I can't use this credit anywhere else and that the whole reason for choosing this restaurant today was because of the Open Table credit. She then asked me to stop yelling at her. I, at no time in this conversation, raised my voice. I just stated the fact that I will lose $16 if they don't use it here. She said I could use it elsewhere and I reiterated that was not true and asked if she could contact open table to see why it won't go through. She said no because they are a third party and it is not their responsibility. After a while back and forth on this, she then said, I told you I would take $16 off the bill so you can use that elsewhere. When I reminded her that she said only 10% before she again said to stop yelling at me and I am just trying to make you happy. My husband said, does she look happy? After that she basically kicked us out of the restaurant. I will never return to this location ever again after being treated this way, like I was some criminal trying to get over them over a lousy $16. Now I can see why, on Sunday during Brunch time, the place was practically empty. Go to Original Pancake House just up the street if you want great food and service. There will be a wait but it is worth it!

I recently tried the chef's 8-course tasting menu, and it was perfectly paced--the small plates are proportionately sized so you leave feeling satisfied rather than overwhelmed. Every dish is a standout with deep, "stacked" flavors; even the ingredients I was skeptical about ended up being favorites. Nothing needed a drop of extra seasoning. The service sets a warm, welcoming tone from the start. We were offered Oshibori (Japanese warm towelettes) to refresh our hands, and getting a fresh set of utensils with every course was a high-end touch I really appreciated. Menu Highlights: Taro Fritter: A sweet-textured appetizer inspired by Chinese desserts, topped with caviar and soy-pickled beets. It was a beautiful way to awaken the palate. Mackerel Crudo: As someone who isn't usually a fan of raw dishes, I was surprised by how much I loved this. It's light, perfectly acidic, and balanced with plum, ponzu, and apple. Grilled Sunchoke: This was "rustic elegance" in a bowl. The smell alone is incredible, and the combination of ginger crab and shellfish butter is pure comfort. Smoked Duck: Topped with black winter truffle and caramelized onions in a gochujang sauce--absolutely excellent cook and presentation. Braised Beef Cheek: So tender you can skip the knife and just use your fork. Since I forgot to BYOB, I tried their house-made Luck & Love hibiscus drink. It's hands-down the best hibiscus tea I've ever had--I actually tried to buy one to-go, but they only make enough for dine-in guests! It's a fantastic spot to bring friends or loved ones, though I'd recommend arriving early. The parking lot is extremely tight, so you might need to look for space in the lot next door.
