How can anyone not love teppanyaki? A great date night. I got the deluxe treat with filet mignon and lobster tail. Of course I got the fried rice as well. The steak was super tender and I've not had such good mushrooms in a while. I am pretty sure I ate about a whole stick of butter while here, but it's part of the experience . Nico was our server and he was very attentive, checking in on us multiple times throughout the meal. He also was very on top of the drink refills! - We had a 6:30p reservation on a Sunday evening and arrived on time, but were not seated until approximately 6:45p - The restaurant is quite large, with multiple dining areas and a substantial number of tables and hibachi stations; with so many diners and hibachi tables operating at once, the atmosphere was quite loud throughout our visit - Service throughout the evening felt disorganized--both the waitstaff and chef appeared flustered at times, and there were multiple order issues; servers delivering drinks often seemed unsure which guests had ordered them, and one water glass brought to our table was visibly cracked; we also had to remind staff about a missing soup and salad that should have accompanied one of our entrees - Overall, service was quite slow, yet once the meal was finally completed, the experience felt rushed--our server offered to-go containers almost immediately after the last item was cooked and served - The hibachi show was surprisingly low-energy and lacked many of the interactive tricks and entertainment typically associated with this type of dining experience; we noticed neighboring tables appeared to be having a much more engaging experience with their chefs - The food was generally tasty, but the filet mignon was overcooked and tougher than expected - One item that may not be obvious from the menu: chicken fried rice is a separate order rather than an upgrade or add-on to the standard white rice included with the meal - Our birthday celebration was as expected with staff singing to our birthday boy; a candle was added to the ice cream that came with our meal and we received a complimentary photo of our family - It's possible our experience was impacted by the dynamics at our shared hibachi table, as some fellow diners encountered multiple issues with their orders that appeared to require additional attention from the staff--would consider giving the restaurant another try, particularly if we were able to reserve a full hibachi table for our own party of eight read more

THE FOOD ---------------- = Land 'N Sea (Filet Mignon + Scallops), Deluxe Treat (Filet Mignon + Lobster Tail) and Teriyaki Chicken - All of the food was pretty much what you would expect from a Hibachi restaurant, but I DID expect a litttttle more from Benihana. The lobster, steak, shrimp and chicken from the 3 specialty entrees were OK. Fried rice was on point, but the steak was a bit overdone. THE SERVICE ------------------- - Had to wait a good 15-20 minutes before we were seated, despite having reservations. Chances were that we had to wait for our tablemates to show up too, which is a downside to having to share a table with strangers. - The hibachi show, or the lack thereof, that our chef put on was disappointing. ---- Our chef didn't show up and start cooking until 45 minutes after we were already seated! 45!!! That's an eternity when you're hungry, let alone when you have kids dining with you. ---- Chef was not very enthusiastic. Other chefs were more animated and had more showmanship. Have seen a better show at other hibachi restaurants (e.g., Arirang). = Although they were very nice and patient, the waitresses seemed to not remember people's orders and handed out soups and appetizers to the incorrect people at our table. + Expect a Happy Birthday song from the staff and complimentary ice cream if it's your birthday. THE SURROUNDINGS ------------------------------- + Restaurant is located right across the street from Menlo Park Mall, so definitely convenient for mall-goers. + Huge private parking lot outside. + Inside is very spacious with hibachi and non-hibachi sections of the restaurant. - It gets NOISY inside as you can imagine with all of the hibachi action. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Try to come with a large party, if you can, else you WILL have to share a table with strangers. Definitely not the worst thing, but depending on how social you are, it can get awkward because some tablemates might not be very friendly. read more

My bf and I came here for hibachi dinner. The wait was 10 minutes for the two of us, and then was seated with 2 others. The service was friendly and the cook was mellow. Nothing too fancy. The filet mignon was amazing, the chicken was a bit dry and under seasoned. However, the vegetables were pretty good. When we got the bill gratuity is included for 8 people but there were just 2 of us. The bill was 149.75 and paid $200. We only received $30 back in cash... Which means the waitress took $21 to herself. She would have gotten a bigger tip if she had given the correct change back. My bf waited 10 minutes for her to come back to ask where the rest was but she never returned, so we just left. Wont be coming back to this location. read more

Nice location with plenty of parking, and the inside is very clean and well kept. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, which we appreciated. However, we were a little disappointed with the food. We ordered the six-course combination, which included the onion soup, appetizers, filet, chicken, and shrimp. Everything was cooked to our liking, but the dishes lacked seasoning and didn't have the flavor we've experienced at other hibachi restaurants. I hadn't been to Benihana in years because I've been going to Arirang Hibachi Steakhouse in Mountainside instead. I decided to give Benihana another try, but unfortunately, it reminded me why Arirang has become my preferred hibachi restaurant. I ordered the Surf Side (grilled colossal shrimp, calamari, and sea scallops) for $57.90. The colossal shrimp was the size of my thumb nail. I was surprised that fried rice was an additional charge, and the standard fried rice contains chicken. As a pescatarian, that was disappointing, although I realize I should have paid closer attention to the chef as he was cooking. The sauces were also a letdown. They lacked the bold flavor I remember, and the hot mustard sauce, in particular, tasted watered down. The calamari was another disappointment. Instead of traditional calamari, it was a small white square piece of imitation who-knows-what, then diced up with very little flavor. Lastly, I missed having bean sprouts served with the hibachi meal, as that's something I've come to expect at other hibachi restaurants. Overall, the service was fine, but the food didn't meet my expectations, especially for the price. Based on this experience, I'll be sticking with Arirang, which I personally feel offers better flavor, better value, and a more enjoyable hibachi experience. read more

We grabbed dinner here this weekend as walk-ins. We were told about a ~20 minute wait for Both Hibachi or regular dining but it moved pretty quickly. I ordered the exotic mojito and it was delicious.i ordered steak and my friend got chicken. The food was great and the staff provided great service. This was my first time visiting this Benihana location and I would return again. I took a star off because the bathroom wasn't the cleanest. read more

Absolutely vile and repulsive of a restaurant. The chef's hands were dirty with dirt under his finger nails and he essentially used his hands without gloves to move the food around and stuck his fingers in the food while serving. I don't think they understand the word sanitary. The manager did absolutely nothing as she stood there watching her employee cooked with his hands. People like this should not be anywhere near food for pets let alone people. read more
