Roast Duck (1st night served for the spring menu)
Michelle M.

The flavors in the dishes are so complex interesting and delicious! Chef Sean served a few courses to us! The service was attentive and very nice. They switched out our utensils with every course! The Decor is contemporary with clean lines. You can sit at the bar to watch the staff cook or reserve a table. BYO.

Good prefix Asian fusion spot in NJ. Definitely go for the experience and not expecting authentic flavors but fusion esque dishes. The courses are designed to give you the hint of various authentic Chinese dishes but fused into modern dishes in nice presentation. I went on a Saturday and had our nice server host my experience. It was a good experience overall and felt the dishes were interesting but some were underwhelming. The server did acknowledge that today's course was not the best and the dishes are always being adjusted. I think the beef noodle dish should not be plated in some type of tiny bowl. It was less than a few slurps, not enough to gain the flavor but just a hint. Chinese dishes are usually big on portions and there are so many chinese apps that could be featured but most of the dishes in these courses are more Western than eastern dishes.

Ram & Rooster is the perfect spot for a special night out. The ambiance is sophisticated yet inviting, the food is excellent, and the BYOB option makes it even better. A true gem for a memorable evening.

Excellent service, beautiful, romantic and cozy vibes, and great food. I previously had the pleasure of trying some dishes at Ram and Rooster's Yelp Elite event and knew I had to come back. My husband and I tried the 5 course menu on Wednesday for dinner. The tuna tartare starter was excellent, the egg custard was very good. The char siu pork was excellent with the slaw. The Dan Dan noodles were tasty but I felt there was a smidge too much sauce and the sausage was a little dry. The desserts were good and the cinnamon persimmon sorbet was incredible! The frescas we ordered were very tasty as well as we forgot to bring wine. Love to see Metuchen get a fantastic place like this and it's so good to see it buzzing on a Wednesday night. Congratulations Chef Sean and team and I hope to be back soon to do the full tasting !

My partner and I came here to try the tasting menu. It's BYOB and conveniently located next to a strip mall liquor shop. We brought a bottle of red and white to pair and dived right in. I had the vegetarian tasting and he had the regular. It was fun to see the vegetarian interpretation of each course and for a few dishes, he even thought the vegetarian option was more interesting and better executed. Service is warm and efficient. I think the menu changes but it was a lovely evening and we were more than full with little room for more at the end of dinner.

We enjoyed a spectacular dinner at Ram and Rooster. The food and service is impeccable. We enjoyed Duck; beef cheeks; taro fritter; mackerel crudo; grilled sunchokes with ginger crab; salt bread with Szechuan peppercorn butter; Hokkaido scallop; chocolate sorbet; lemon cake; and gai mei cookie for dessert. It all went great with an excellent cabernet and Malbec. The attached menu gives all of the details. The chef is a true artist, the way he combines the various ingredients and textures. Every bite is just a party in your mouth. This is definitely one of the top restaurants in NJ.

The space is beautiful, a small but unexpected restaurant in Metuchen. It is byob, and they offer non-alcoholic drinks like teas. The first course was probably my favorite, raw scallop with ice cream and rhubarb. Weird combination but it worked. The Chinese egg custard and the fried morel vegetarian sub were a bit unremarkable. The ocean trout was nice--crispy skin. The bean curd substitute de the lamb was a bit too salty, and cold. The duck was chewy, which I guess it always is. But I thought that the $52 fee for swapping three small slices of duck with three small slices of beef was a bit much. The surprise course if the scallion pancake biscuit was a nice addition, the scallion aroma was strong, in a good way. I really didn't like the snap pea sorbet. It might have done better as an ice cream to counter the sharp snap pea taste. The mochi beignet was good, and the soybean powder reminded me of Korean rice cakes. Overall, service and presentation were exceptional and the dishes were very unique. I would say half the dishes were perfect and the other half did not meet expectations for the price. We still had a great time, and nothing stood out as bad, so it was a lovely night!

My friend and I had previously tried to book a reservation at Ram & Rooster but found it fully booked for weeks. We decided to wait until the initial hype died down. On a Friday afternoon, I checked availability again, for the same evening, and was surprised to find open slots for every time. We even had the choice of seating at a table or the chef's counter, and we opted for the latter. We arrived a few minutes early, which worked out well as it gave us time to park. The parking lot is small and tight, so finding a spot can be a challenge, but it's a bonus if you manage to get one. The restaurant is housed in a modernized home, with dark colors and large windows that create a moody, contemporary atmosphere. Upon entering, we were promptly greeted and seated at the chef's counter. In my excitement about securing a reservation, I had overlooked the limited menu on their website. Having seen reviews comparing it to Heirloom Kitchen, which offers a tasting menu with options, I wrongly assumed Ram & Rooster would be similar. However, Ram & Rooster only offers a single menu with a vegetarian alternative. When our waitress inquired about food allergies, I mentioned that I don't eat much of the fish on the menu. She pointed out that I hadn't reviewed the menu beforehand and offered the vegetarian option, which is priced the same as the regular menu. I chose to stay rather than scramble to find another place at the last minute. As the courses arrived, they were all beautifully presented but lacked substantial portions. Each course was overly salty, and we were fortunate if we got three full bites per dish. Although the waitress allowed me to substitute one vegetarian course with duck, it arrived undercooked and cold. After taking a single tiny bite, I left the rest uneaten, but the manager didn't inquire about my dissatisfaction when clearing the dishes. At $125 per person, plus tax and gratuity, I left feeling hungry and dissatisfied. None of the dishes were particularly enjoyable, including dessert. Unlike other chef's counters where the staff engages with you and checks on your experience, we didn't receive any such interaction here. Overall, the menu wasn't for me, and with only one option available, I can't see how many times one could return. It's unclear whether the menu changes monthly or seasonally, if at all.

Amazing experience Best concept and elegant food. Preparation and delicate balance of taste explosion on each perfect dish. The chefs tasting menu is not to be missed. I have to say one of the best restaurants in NJ Kudos!

Did tasting menu a couple months back (03/25) after friends recommended spot. Pretty good value. Would like to come back to try other iteration of their menu! Photos don't lie. It's also being your own bottle!

Are we in NYC, or are we in Metuchen, NJ?! Ram & Rooster is a beautiful new addition to Metuchen with a creative, Chinese inspired set menu. We came to celebrate a friend's birthday and managed to be seated in the private upstairs room, which was a wonderful experience altogether. Each plate of the set menu is reminiscent of a popular Chinese dish, and I loved the unique take on each one. It's hard to choose a favorite course, but the stand outs for me were the tomato bingfen, scallop tempura, and corn wontons, which were all so different. The dessert "dim sum" presentation was also fun and creative. We loved everything, and will certainly be back to try their other seasonal menus.

What a cool experience! My husband and I tried the Five Course Tasting Menu (only available on Wednesdays and Thursdays) on a Thursday. I'm glad that we chose the 5-course because I was stuffed after that and I don't think I would've been able to handle the 8-course. I made a reservation a few weeks in advance and we were seated right away when we got here. All of the staff is super nice and accommodating and we were treated with such care and kindness. They took our jackets and ensured that our wine and water glasses were filled at all times. The ambiance is very romantic and I loved being able to sit at the Chef's Counter to see them in action. We started out with a complimentary small app on the house. I love the small details because you can tell that a lot of work goes into preparation of each course. The first course was Tuna Crudo with chinese sausage mushrooms and rice crackers. The tuna was super fresh and flavorful - loved it! Next was the Chinese Egg Custard followed by Cha Siu Pork Collar. You really can't go wrong with cha siu - it was so tender and flavorful. The final course before dessert was Cumin Dan Dan Noodles - this was a really big dish for a tasting menu (see photo)! And finally, for dessert, they had Dim Sum featuring a Cinnamon Persimmon Sorbet, Black Sesame Yuzu Tart and Walnut Cookie. The walnut cookie was my favorite - it resembled a really yummy moon cake. Overall, Ram & Rooster is the perfect special-occasion spot if you are open to trying new foods and allowing the staff to just do their thing. If you have dietary restrictions or aversions, I think they can still accommodate certain things but I find that a tasting menu like this is only really worth it if you are open to sitting back and letting go!

Huge shoutout to Chef Yan & his crew! Looking for a place to celebrate my 57th, I came across this new up-and-coming restaurant on TikTok...Ram & Rooster, named after the Chinese zodiacs of the Chef's mom (Ram) and dad (Rooster). Chef Sean Yan uses Chinese ingredients with an American take on each dish. It's a 5 or 8 course tasting menu depending on what time you go. The space is a dimly-lit ambiance. The entire time we were there, Beyonce and Rihanna were playing in the background to set that chic and sexy mood. My son loves Beyonce and I love Rihanna. First course was their tuna tartare with yellow chives, white soy on top of a panna cotta. This starter blew us away. It set the stage for what the rest of the meal would be like. Not one single dish missed the mark in terms of flavor and seasoning. Every course had us wanting more. Like can I have another Lotus Root Crouquette please, one just isn't enough. Lol. I was giddy every time each course was served, it was like unveiling a present. Presentation was on point and meticulously plated. Love hearing the stories behind some of the dishes from the staff. They nailed it when it came to their sauce creations and broths. My favorite cuisine is French and I always say, they are masters of sauces. Chef Yan has that magic touch. This is as good as it gets. Here are our top 4 favorite dishes of the night: - Tuna Tartare served on top of a Panna Cotta - Grilled Octopus (incredibly tender and that sauce!!!) - Lotus Root Croquette (Inspired by his mom's lotus root meatballs) - Crusted Black Cod (winning dish of the night) We got to enjoy one of their high-quality tea selections, Nanjing Rain Flower Green Tea. My son had the Hong Kong Iced Tea. He said he would drink that everyday if he could. The prices reflects fine dining at its best. It is an eight-course tasting menu so don't expect huge portions. I left satisfied. It was such a surprise when Chef Sean Yan came out with a gold candle on my dessert for my birthday. It was a pleasure to meet him, shake his hand and chat with him for a bit. That totally made my night extra special. As we were leaving we each got to take home a homemade Chinese marshmallow nougat. Happy Year of the Snake 2025! Wishing R&R continued success. Service is a 10/10. Small parking lot in the back. Although they don't serve alcohol, you can BYOB.

I am still disappointed by the lack of response from the corporate office on this matter, but the Edison location was extremely helpful in resolving my issue. Initial review: My wife and I have been going to True Food Kitchen for a while now, and really enjoy their healthy food options, but their recent lack of customer service is very disappointing. We recently purchased a gift card for True Food Kitchen but when we had problems with it, the local restaurant wasn't able to do anything. We reached out to the company they parner with for the gift cards, who told us to reach out to corporate. I left two voicemails with True Food corporate with no response, in addition to leaving email with no response either. I would appreciate it even if they couldn't do anything that they would at least get back to us and let us know that, but nothing. I commend True Food for offering such healthy eating options for people but without good customer service, I can't see it really lasting for long.

This is not my first time here, but my husband really didn't like it last time we went. He decided…read moreto give it another chance. NOTE: Be very careful about using any dining credits from Open Table here. I saved up points for like a year and got a measly $16. When deciding on which restaurant to choose for Brunch today, we noticed True Food was in the Open Table network, so I would be able to use the credit there. When we arrived the place was pretty empty. Strange for the time of day. Bad sign #1. They walked us to a large table. The table was soaking wet and the hostess laid our paper menus on the puddle of water, never acknowledging the fact that the table was wet. Bad sign #2. I used my napkin to dry off the table and asked the waiter for another. He was very cordial. It was noon on a Saturday, so we assumed they would provide us with the Brunch menu (since that is why we came) and we had to ask for it - a measly 4 items on this menu, so options were few. Bad sign #3. Our server and the taste of the food were the only positive things about this trip. At the end of the meal, I followed the Open table directions and clicked on redeem in front of the waiter. It seems a Mastercard number pops up and since the server nor the manager knew how to do the dining credit, she said it was declined and could give me a 10% discount. Our meal was only $30, maki g that like $3 I said that I had to use the dining credit here since I booked our reservation which is tied to the credit and I would lose the dining credit. The manager was very demeaning and I reminded her that I can't use this credit anywhere else and that the whole reason for choosing this restaurant today was because of the Open Table credit. She then asked me to stop yelling at her. I, at no time in this conversation, raised my voice. I just stated the fact that I will lose $16 if they don't use it here. She said I could use it elsewhere and I reiterated that was not true and asked if she could contact open table to see why it won't go through. She said no because they are a third party and it is not their responsibility. After a while back and forth on this, she then said, I told you I would take $16 off the bill so you can use that elsewhere. When I reminded her that she said only 10% before she again said to stop yelling at me and I am just trying to make you happy. My husband said, does she look happy? After that she basically kicked us out of the restaurant. I will never return to this location ever again after being treated this way, like I was some criminal trying to get over them over a lousy $16. Now I can see why, on Sunday during Brunch time, the place was practically empty. Go to Original Pancake House just up the street if you want great food and service. There will be a wait but it is worth it!

From what I've heard, it usually gets packed during peak sports seasons--but we happened to hit a lull (post-football, pre-baseball, and no major games on), so we basically had the place to ourselves. That actually worked in our favor--the quieter atmosphere made it easy to relax and enjoy conversation without the usual sports bar chaos. Drinks were a highlight. I went with the sangria, which was refreshing and well-balanced. Instead of ordering full entrees, we decided to share a bunch of appetizers. Everything that came out looked great, and everyone in the group seemed really happy with the flavors. As someone with a gluten allergy, though, I was pretty limited in what I could order. The ribs ended up being one of my only real options--but thankfully, they were tender, flavorful, and definitely the standout for me. Still, I do wish there were more gluten-free choices, especially since we were there to celebrate and share food. One thing that stood out (in a not-so-great way) was that we felt a bit rushed toward the end of the meal. We didn't even get the chance to order a birthday dessert, which was disappointing given the occasion, but seeing since it was only our group there I'm sure they were ready to close and go home. Service overall was attentive and friendly while we were dining, so no complaints there otherwise. It was winter when we visited, but I can see this being a great spot in warmer months--the outdoor seating looks like it would really add to the experience. Parking was easy on a Sunday night, and they do have a lot, but make sure to read the signs carefully since some spots are reserved for the theater next door. Overall it has a great vibe, solid drinks, and food that people clearly enjoy--I just wish there were more gluten-free options so I didn't leave still a little hungry.

If this is upscale dining by Darden, they've gone downhill and are very, very far from what Capital Grille offers. To make this review short and sweet my wife, brother-in-law and daughter came in around 8:00 p.m. for a couple drinks and a snack. After finally realizing something is terribly wrong here, I spoke to the GM, Chris, and told him what was going on. We hadn't received water an hour into our experience, we were never even offered any bread. I'm sitting here a steak and butter knife drinking a glass of Caymus and feeling like I am being ignored in the ghetto. The runner, Jessica, as pleasant as she was, was forced to drop our food on an extremely cluttered and disorganized table with empty glasses from the first round. There was zero attentiveness on the part of anyone for our entire experience. After speaking to Chris, we were finally brought some glasses of water and what I remember to be possibly pita bread or flatbread with rock hard butter. Towards the conclusion they offered us some tiny desserts on the house, which we politely declined. Nothing was discounted, there were no apologies. Such a beautiful place with a welcoming atmosphere to be thrown to the wolves like this. After working for Darden in the Chrysler building, I know this does not uphold their standards or what the managing partner would expect out of their staff.

So how did I wind up back here? Bit of a story but if you read my first review you'll see how I met a friend that I met online 13 years ago for the first time and this was the place we went for dinner after an event. Well, now a year later, her and I were traveling together north to Parsippany and this was the closest restaurant that looked appealing. It was not until we enter the parking lot I said out loud, this is where we had our first dinner. Anyways, enough of that love story. I really want to give this two stars for service but the food really pushed it over the top. So all in all I will keep it as a four star review. I want to address the food first, I had the short rib tacos, and my partner had eggplant caprice flatbread. I had a bite of hers which I absolutely enjoyed, eggplant had a nice crisp to it which really made it enjoyable. The short rib tacos... holy crap! Mind blown. I did not expect such great flavor in such a small bite. Everything about the tacos packed a punch. I would much rather have had six tacos and no chips and salsa. As for the service, this is where I got frustrated and my cash tip hopefully reconcile with my server. We dined on the rooftop which was completely empty minus a couple at the bar. We seated and ordered our beverages. I did not get my lime with my lemon water. After we ordered our meals, and received them, a server never came back to check in with us. I wasn't a big fan of her attitud either. It started to get busy I noticed that the host kept seating everyone around us when there was an entire floor to sit people at. Not sure if they're trying to keep people in one specific area but for how slow it was they certainly could've given everyone more privacy. I'm pretty sure the couple that was seated next to us got up and left for that reason. Cannot say I will not be back but who knows when I'll be traveling through again.

It has a nice, elevated atmosphere, so you should dress semi-formal. Prices are on par with other upscale restaurants. The food has always been excellent and the service as well, most of the time. You absolutely MUST get the Clothesline Bacon as an appetizer. Make sure you slice some pickle with it and squeeze a little lemon juice on top! The manager urged us to try it that way during one of our visits - we never looked back. Rather than eating in the dining area, we chose to sit at the bar for their Foxy Hour (Happy Hour) offerings. There are plenty of tables surrounding the bar as well. We had the Clothesline Bacon, 6 Oysters, Hipster Fries, Spicy Lobster Mac, and we each got the happy hour burger. Everything tasted great, but the hipster fries were a little greasy and lacked the shishito peppers they had last time. We finished off with the Eclair Trio dessert from the Specials Menu. On two separate occasions we were seated at an awkward table in the back of the restaurant, right near the kitchen service area and door to the outside patio. We weren't thrilled to be there, as there was constant traffic in and out of the kitchen and through the doors. I think they should just do away with those seats, so everyone can have a relaxing dining experience no matter where they're sat. The happy hour prices are a great deal. Especially the lobster roll + champagne!! Service is very quick. The staff attentive despite the crowd. The sliders were the biggest (pleasant) surprise. They were HUGE. Almost the size a full size burger. One of the owners stopped by and laughed that it was the only size buns they had --- but it's seriously such a great + tasty deal! Honestly would come back for these happy hour sliders alone! Overall we had a great time here. Haven't tried any of their main dishes, but judging from happy hour alone, this place is one to return to.

No parking out front, parking around back and a cut through to the front. Service was friendly and at a good pace. We had the Lobster Roll & Butcher's Cut Grilled Cheese, which the cheese changes periodically so ask before ordering. We also upgraded the frittes to the Rosemary which comes with rosemary on it & a garlic aioli dipping sauce. Everything was amazing! Mad it took me so long to come back. We also had the Mai Tai, so good we ordered 2 each. Worth the stop!! Grades: Lobster Roll: A Butcher's Cut Grilled Cheese: A+ Rosemary Frittes: A

Huge shoutout to Elleyse. She was amazing with us the first time, and when we came back with all the kiddos, she was incredibly patient, kind, and on top of everything. She made both visits feel special. The food was ridiculous. The porterhouse was amazing, and we got the Wagyu both times because it was that good. The chicken lollipops were incredible, the short rib mac and cheese was fire, and the truffle fries and Crispy Banging Shrimp were both huge hits. My wife and our friend loved the Spanish octopus. We also shared the bone-in chicken parm with spicy vodka penne, and it was awesome. Even the kids loved their chicken tenders and fries. The drinks were great too. Everything we tried was well made and paired perfectly with the meal. Dessert was next level. The tiramisu was awesome, and the Dubai chocolate cheesecake was amazing. I added a scoop of ice cream on the side myself, and it made it even better. The portion sizes are amazing too. Everything is big enough to share, and you'll still have plenty to bring home. Great vibe, great service, amazing drinks, and incredible food. We'll definitely keep coming back and bringing more friends. Highly recommend.

I have seen Parkside Eats everywhere lately! Since the food, staff, and ambiance all looked…read moreincredible on their socials, I was thrilled to finally check them out. A few logistical tips: while there is street parking, a public lot is conveniently located right across the street. The dining room is quite intimate with only about ten tables, and since they don't seem to take reservations, I recommend arriving early or being prepared for a wait. If you don't want to wait, they do offer takeout! Another suggestion is to browse their menu online before you arrive, the selection is extensive! We showed up without a game plan and needed several minutes just to decide because there were so many tempting choices! Luckily, our waiter was incredibly patient and helpful, answering every question we had. Once we decided, the real fun began. Every single item, and I'm not exaggerating, was phenomenal! We started with the fresh squeezed orange juice, which was sweet and perfectly portioned, along with a vanilla latte and a cappuccino. Both were classic, rich, and creamy. For the main course, we chose the "Chill + Qill It" Chilaquiles, which featured traditional corn tortillas topped with cotija cheese, avocado, pink sour cream, eggs, and your choice of protein. We also tried the Parkside Classic Sliders; the chicken was exceptionally crispy yet tender and juicy, served with eggs on a brioche bun. We opted to upgrade to the truffle fries, which were delicious! Although our sliders accidentally came with pickles, the staff was so kind and immediately offered to remake the dish or swap out the bun. Finally, we had the Grilled Chicken Egg Ranchero. It was like a breakfast version of nachos, loaded with beans, peppers, onions, an egg, those same crispy tortillas, and more of that signature pink cream! We couldn't leave without satisfying our sweet tooth, so we finished with the Cinnamon Roll French Toast. It tasted exactly like a fresh cinnamon roll, the glaze was incredible, and the bread was perfectly crisp on the outside while remaining fluffy inside. I honestly cannot wait to go back and work my way through the rest of the kitchen's creations. This restaurant is a absolute must-visit for their unique combinations and superb flavors!

Took 30 mins to get our appetizer, another 20 minutes to order our meals and then another 30 mins to get our food (no I'm not exaggerating it was a near 2 hour experience). Food was good, but when it got to us it wasn't hot and could tell it sitting under a heat lamp for a while. 2 tables got there after us and left before us. Understaffed and/or untrained. I'm really not one to leave a bad review anywhere, but this was just crazy. I really hope we were there on an off day because the place is cool and food was decent, but we just had an awful experience.
