We came here for AYCE sushi. The price is pretty good and they have plenty of options. The food was great and quality seemed good. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here as the servers were nice as well. My only complaint is that the bathroom was sticky/dirty which usually indicates that the restaurant doesn't have great hygiene.

Makoto restaurant serves fantastic food at an excellent price point. Despite its modest decor and small-business charm, the staff is warm and attentive. The extensive menu provides high-quality options. I've visited with friends and family numerous times, and it's BYOB-friendly.

We ate here on Friday night and it was a bit of a wait...but well worth it!! The food was tasty and for an AYCE sushi the food was very good. Between my 3 sons and I we ordered 11 rolls, 20 pieces of Nigiri, crab rangoons, tempura shrimp, and egg rolls. Can't complain about getting all of this for $120 plus tax and tips.

the food is always a banger.. i love it so much. the only thing i did not like was the general tso chicken. the service is good HOWEVER do not go on a friday evening. the place is small however it can get overwhelming for the workers to remember everything you asked for. the place is fancy but very cozy and calm for friends or a family night. 10/10

Good service, need reservations, rolls are ok. They have a lot of rice, so you get full fast if you eat all the rice. In terms of ordering just sashimi, i say stick to the safe choices like tuna, toro if available and salmon . Avoid white tuna as it was spongy ans somewhat soggy, I suppose if you take this place at face value of all you can eat and bring your own wine or beer, we certainly have a winner. If you are looking for high quality Japanese, go somewhere else. I did like the warm eel roll, and the spicy tuna and jalapeño roll, both were very tasty. I broight wine and beers and they were happy to provide glassware for the wine. Place does get crowded Friday nights. I love mackerel but the one here was way too fishy for me. Kids love the food, nobody goes home hungry, you even get ice cream. Parking can be difficult during dinner time 630-8pm and if you dont have reservations, be prepared to wait. Staff is very accommodating!

Makoto has great service to go along with great Chinese food It's hard to find a decent spot in this area, but makoto made it easy! The chicken and broccoli was on point And the sesame chicken was crunchy and delicious The crab rangoons were tasty and hot And they even gave us dessert on the house! The hospitality was great, as we sat in to dine. It was quiet and nice. No one made us feel rushed. And anything I needed they were there ready to serve us Even as simple as dropping my chopstick and someone wash right over with another pair for me Thank you for reminding me of the art of hospitality, making food with love, and greeting us with a smile Best of luck to you

I read about this place on an article that named it one of the best sushi restaurants in Jersey and was super excited to try them. I did not know they have an all you can eat menu and they are BYOB. Makoto is a small sushi restaurant that by first look is not a date night restaurant, but most of the people there were on dates and you can tell many of them go their a lot. Staff knew most of the people who walked in. For a great price you can get a soup, salad, appetizer and unlimited sushi and ice cream. To start we had the seaweed salad, kani salad, scallion pancakes, crab ragoon and lo mein. I cannot remember all the names of the rolls, but they were all delicious. We were so full we did not have space for dessert. Definitely a great fine!

Rolls were good. One of them had some weird sauce that tasted expired

This was my second time here and I was not impressed. The time before this, I don't really remember because nothing was just that memorable. So, I had to give it another shot to make sure lol. They say first impressions are everything. When we came in, we were not greeted. There was a pick doing pick up in front of us but after he left, the waitress/hostess just continued on doing whatever it was she was doing. After 2 mins of silence, she finally looked up and said we can sit anywhere. Ok? You could've said that in the first place. It took the waitress quite a bit to come to our table with the menu. Which was a turn off instantly for me. Anyways, we had opted for the AYCE and they did not offer as much variety as I am used to other sushi AYCE spots. The seaweed salad and kani salad was a waste of stomach space. They basically drizzle mayo on the kani and called it a day. I had ordered the grilled squid and I kid you not, they put 4/5 pieces of squid on a huge plate. It looked like the pieces were scraps. The sushi rolls were pretty okay. My favorite was the special one with the soft shelled crab, everything else was just bland. The sashimi were cut into small pieces and was just not satisfying. Overall, there's too many sushi places to visit in the area. This one did not make the cut on my list. I would've made the travel to visit here if things were different.

Makoto is a great spot for All You Can Eat Sushi! Being from Staten Island, we don't have any sushi restaurants that offer AYCE, so Makoto is the best option based on location! The sushi always taste fresh and there's plenty of specialty rolls. The restaurant itself is not that big so be prepared to wait a bit for a table, especially on the weekend; we had a party of 8 and had to wait about 30-45 minutes. Overall, if you're looking for an ideally located sushi spot in Jersey, this is your place!

This place is somewhat small but it is amazing. The all you can eat special is fantastic. Their sushi is good and their appetizers are good as well. I enjoyed the beef and chicken satay a great deal! Likewise, their entrees are good! I enjoyed the sesame chicken over the general tso's chicken. Their teriyaki chicken was pretty good as it was strips of chicken with teriyaki sauce drizzle on top. The service is somewhat slow and the sushi can take a while. Nonetheless, the all you can eat special is fantastic and I will come here again for sure. Also please note that they might charge you a dollar for each piece of sushi or other food you don't eat. At the end of the day it was good food for all you can eat (cooked fresh everytime you order).

    Shrimp Tempura Roll

Makoto is the best sushi spot in Woodbirdge Twp hands down. Everything is fresh and fairly priced. My personal favorite is the Shrimp Tempura roll (the best i've ever had) and the chicken teryaki. Service is always quick, Leah is the sweetest and even has my order memorized. Absolutely love this place.

Menu is authentic as can be although they do have some American style rolls for the American taste. But stick to traditional Japanese food. The fish was fresh as can be. Maybe quality isn't as good as the top omakase places in NYC but still very good. Make sure you check out the specials behind the sushi counter. Inside is clean as it should be for a sushi place. The booth tables had too much space between the table and the seats. Service was nice but there was one lady for the whole restaurant and it was sometimes hard to get her attention. The decor is unique and it honestly felt like I was teleported to Japan itself. Our sushi chef was Yoshi and he was professional, informative, and kind. I can't remember our waiters name but he was always attentive and checking in if we needed anything. Can I just say the variety in both cooked and raw dishes in this omakase experience is the largest I've ever come across. Out of the cooked appetizers I loved the turban snail and the foie gras. Out of the raw appetizers my favorite was the array of sashimi in a light lemon sauce. The scallop and octopus were fresh and buttery. I did not expect the amount of food we received, not to mention at the end of the meal there is also soba noodles! I absolutely loved that one of the dishes was tempura soft shell crab. My husband enjoyed everything but was very full and could not finish his sushi. Yoshi allowed us to pack it to go which was very thoughtful. I'm pretty sure we will be coming back here to celebrate any birthdays and anniversarys with the omakase experience.

It's located across of The 'World Famous' Waiting Room and La Chula Latin Fusion on E Cherry St in downtown Rahway. There's paid street parking and parking garages around the area. The shop was a very cute hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Upon entering, we were greeted by an older Asian chef making the rolls. I ordered their Rahway Roll with shrimp tempura for takeout, and it was amazing! The sauce was delicious, there wasn't an excessive amount of rice, and it had a generous amount of minced salmon and large shrimp, which I loved. The tempura was still very crunchy, even though it was takeout. It was just one roll to satisfy my craving, but it was really satisfying. Great prices, good food based on the one roll I had ordered. The next time I'm in Rahway, I will definitely keep this place in mind.

They don't clean their bathrooms well though, I went in and found a dirty toilet that hasn't been flushed. In terms of the food, it was average sushi. I wish the rolls were bigger, and their ginger didn't taste very fresh. My favorite roll was their salmon and avocado roll with good salmon to avocado and even rice ratio. On the menu our 3 rolls combo came with a miso soup, but when we ordered another round they asked if we wanted the second soup. That wouldn't be a problem but if I pay for what is offered, regardless if I finish it or not, should be served because it was what I payed for. Very cheap of the establishment. My service was fine, but I did notice that a woman particularly treated costumers in a condescending way. Most likely a boss or manager (not a waitress), but as I watched her serve others behind the register, her tone was off and not your average costumer service act. Seems to be a pattern within reviews I've read. Food is okay, could fix their cleanliness and professionalism for sure.

For the first 15 minutes, most of the revolving sushi never made its way to us due to where we were sitting, which you can see from the videos. Some of the pieces had very thin slices as evident in the photos, and their selections are quite limited compared to other revolving sushi restaurants. However, the price is definitely quite fair if you are able to get the selections you want, and since this is AYCE, you can definitely eat your money's worth, especially if you sit by the front of the conveyor belt. I understand that this is out of the restaurant's control, so a pro tip is to ask to sit closer to where the sushi comes out! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:
