Visited Makoto for their all you can eat menu and had an amazing dinner. Highly recommend if you love sushi or asian cuisine! The all you can eat includes fried rice, noodles, chicken, veggies, and of course sushi. The sushi tasted fresh and you can see the chefs making it on the spot. It was a small and intimate location. Our waitress was attentive and kept ensuring if we needed more food/drinks. Highly recommend if you're in the area! read more

Been here a few times food is great, service is kind, and the restaurant is cute and clean.

Worst Chinese place ever on my mama grave the fried rice I had was spoiled. Don't ever order to a Chinese restaurant where you don't see the cook . read more

Double to nearly triple the rice now on their sushi pieces. We're bursting at the seams and I've been here for at least 5 years and it's reached the point that I had to finally mention to my waiter. We didn't even order a second or third round since the first initial 'normal' order couldn't even be finished. He escalated my concern to the manager and the quick response was a shoulder shrug and that this is the expectation now. If this is the norm now, as confirmed by the manager, we will not be coming back. read more

Went with friends this weekend and did a la carte menu. Food was great as always. We normally do the ayce but wasn't too hungry this time so decided to try out something new. We all enjoyed it. Service was quick and friendly. We kept ordering more as if it was ayce. Had a fun evening. Thanks to all the staff for their hospitality! read more

We came here for AYCE sushi. The price is pretty good and they have plenty of options. The food was great and quality seemed good. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here as the servers were nice as well. My only complaint is that the bathroom was sticky/dirty which usually indicates that the restaurant doesn't have great hygiene. read more

Food is fresh and tastes great does not matter if you have sushi or Japanese foods on point all the time

Good service, need reservations, rolls are ok. They have a lot of rice, so you get full fast if you eat all the rice. In terms of ordering just sashimi, i say stick to the safe choices like tuna, toro if available and salmon . Avoid white tuna as it was spongy ans somewhat soggy, I suppose if you take this place at face value of all you can eat and bring your own wine or beer, we certainly have a winner. If you are looking for high quality Japanese, go somewhere else. I did like the warm eel roll, and the spicy tuna and jalapeño roll, both were very tasty. I broight wine and beers and they were happy to provide glassware for the wine. Place does get crowded Friday nights. I love mackerel but the one here was way too fishy for me. Kids love the food, nobody goes home hungry, you even get ice cream. Parking can be difficult during dinner time 630-8pm and if you dont have reservations, be prepared to wait. Staff is very accommodating! read more

We ate here on Friday night and it was a bit of a wait...but well worth it!! The food was tasty and for an AYCE sushi the food was very good. Between my 3 sons and I we ordered 11 rolls, 20 pieces of Nigiri, crab rangoons, tempura shrimp, and egg rolls. Can't complain about getting all of this for $120 plus tax and tips. read more

I read about this place on an article that named it one of the best sushi restaurants in Jersey and was super excited to try them. I did not know they have an all you can eat menu and they are BYOB. Makoto is a small sushi restaurant that by first look is not a date night restaurant, but most of the people there were on dates and you can tell many of them go their a lot. Staff knew most of the people who walked in. For a great price you can get a soup, salad, appetizer and unlimited sushi and ice cream. To start we had the seaweed salad, kani salad, scallion pancakes, crab ragoon and lo mein. I cannot remember all the names of the rolls, but they were all delicious. We were so full we did not have space for dessert. Definitely a great fine! read more

This was my second time here and I was not impressed. The time before this, I don't really remember because nothing was just that memorable. So, I had to give it another shot to make sure lol. They say first impressions are everything. When we came in, we were not greeted. There was a pick doing pick up in front of us but after he left, the waitress/hostess just continued on doing whatever it was she was doing. After 2 mins of silence, she finally looked up and said we can sit anywhere. Ok? You could've said that in the first place. It took the waitress quite a bit to come to our table with the menu. Which was a turn off instantly for me. Anyways, we had opted for the AYCE and they did not offer as much variety as I am used to other sushi AYCE spots. The seaweed salad and kani salad was a waste of stomach space. They basically drizzle mayo on the kani and called it a day. I had ordered the grilled squid and I kid you not, they put 4/5 pieces of squid on a huge plate. It looked like the pieces were scraps. The sushi rolls were pretty okay. My favorite was the special one with the soft shelled crab, everything else was just bland. The sashimi were cut into small pieces and was just not satisfying. Overall, there's too many sushi places to visit in the area. This one did not make the cut on my list. I would've made the travel to visit here if things were different. read more

Makoto has great service to go along with great Chinese food It's hard to find a decent spot in this area, but makoto made it easy! The chicken and broccoli was on point And the sesame chicken was crunchy and delicious The crab rangoons were tasty and hot And they even gave us dessert on the house! The hospitality was great, as we sat in to dine. It was quiet and nice. No one made us feel rushed. And anything I needed they were there ready to serve us Even as simple as dropping my chopstick and someone wash right over with another pair for me Thank you for reminding me of the art of hospitality, making food with love, and greeting us with a smile Best of luck to you read more

This place is somewhat small but it is amazing. The all you can eat special is fantastic. Their sushi is good and their appetizers are good as well. I enjoyed the beef and chicken satay a great deal! Likewise, their entrees are good! I enjoyed the sesame chicken over the general tso's chicken. Their teriyaki chicken was pretty good as it was strips of chicken with teriyaki sauce drizzle on top. The service is somewhat slow and the sushi can take a while. Nonetheless, the all you can eat special is fantastic and I will come here again for sure. Also please note that they might charge you a dollar for each piece of sushi or other food you don't eat. At the end of the day it was good food for all you can eat (cooked fresh everytime you order). read more

Makoto is a great spot for All You Can Eat Sushi! Being from Staten Island, we don't have any sushi restaurants that offer AYCE, so Makoto is the best option based on location! The sushi always taste fresh and there's plenty of specialty rolls. The restaurant itself is not that big so be prepared to wait a bit for a table, especially on the weekend; we had a party of 8 and had to wait about 30-45 minutes. Came with a friend to do AYCE sushi & was pleasantly surprised! I feel like some of the special rolls were limiting in what they had & the fish they used but I managed to find something to get & ended up enjoying what I got! Also got to try the green tea ice cream which was good. Service was also good, I think sometimes they may get orders mixed up so just make sure you've got what you ordered. We got there at 5:30 pm on a Sunday and it wasn't crowded but by the time we left at around 7, it got pretty packed. Overall a good option for AYCE sushi! read more

I'm going to be honest and start by saying this place isn't for the faint of heart, especially during COVID. The place is small and they've crammed as many tables as possible into this space. If you're coming on a weekend during prime time lunch/dinner you're going to be waiting, and you're going to be frustrated. With that out of the way this is the best AYCE I've been to in the area, that's taking into account Sushi Palace, Kumo, Sakura, etc. You name it, I've probably had it. All of these places use the same format, you get your sheet of paper for Kitchen or Sushi and you mark your order, hand it in and wait. You know the drill, you hand it your papers and then what, by some mystery maybe some sushi you ordered goes missing, maybe the miso soup you ordered is taking way longer than you thought and the table next to you that got seated after you did already got theirs. Listen, it happens, and that's just life in AYCE sushi world where there is way more demand than there are workers. Now, the one thing I will say is that the sushi, you know, the main thing you came here for will be quality, and by god even if they forget a sashimi or two, at least they don't forget your entire order like some places I've been to... (Looking at you Kumo). When you put that paper in, it arrives. They quality is the best I've had and having been there 4 times in 2 months now, it's the most consistent. I'm not saying you won't be disappointed in the beginning if you decide to go during peak hours, it's packed and this place is no secret. I'm saying that's par for the course at any AYCE sushi and this one handles it the best. Note that this marks my experience going during peak times, I've been one time off-peak and had 0 complaints. read more

ALL YOU CAN EAT! $21 weekday and $25 weekend, includes unlimited soup, salad, drinks, sushi, sashimi and hot dishes as well. And ice cream! The green tea ice cream is a must. I def ordered too much and felt overly full to the point of feeling sick from being too full. I tried about 20+ dishes and some were hits or misses. I would recommend not going order crazy like I did, you can always add items if you are still hungry. Hits for me were the spring rolls, coconut shrimp, chicken teriyaki, crab rangoon, sushi: veggie roll, shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, any of the basic rolls were good. Some of the specialty rolls were not good. The yellowtail jalapeño was gross. I was not a fan of the mussels or the general tso's or any of the chicken dishes besides the chicken teriyaki. Did not like the egg custard. Was it the best sushi I've had? No. But it's all you can eat. Great value. The service was slow. They do get very busy. BYO is a plus. read more

Makoto - Shrimp Tempura Roll - Sushi Bars Near Me - Avenel, New Jersey

I do love me some sushi. I've been to another AYCE sushi place and loved it; although admittedly I was like a crackhead and couldn't stop. Now I know when to say no. Makato is in a small strip of stores on the road and doesn't look like much. Yet inside it was airy and clean and the staff was friendly and attentive. I started with some apps and typical of me, I didn't read that there were two pieces to an order, so I ended up with four chicken satay and four shrimp tempura along with two spring rolls! The staff kept coming by to ask what else I wanted, and like an experienced ACYE eater, I tried to pace myself. I had a couple of Shu Mai and a bit of BBQ Squid after that followed my two delicious rolls. One was called an Edison roll, the other equally as good had spicy tuna and seaweed salad in it - how could you go wrong? The nice waitress was surprised I was done asking me if I wanted another roll or some ice cream - they had four interesting types - but that was it. I have a project in Edison and certainly will add this spot to my rotation. At $25, it is quite the deal. Try it out... read more

So my mom recommended me and my brother to this place from a friend and i figure I give this place a try. And I gotta say this is the best all you can eat place I've been too in a long time. The waiters were very nice and the service was fast and quick. And the atmosphere was inviting and clean as well. And the food was just delicious with such good quality and care for each food that was created. And you gotta go for either the green tea ice cream or red bean ice cream for it Soooo good. But let's be honest, everything here was absolutely delicious and I will be glad to come back here with a bigger appetite and friends to enjoy it with read more

This was my first time trying out Makato. I heard about it plenty of times from my boyfriend and his friends. We went for lunch and I loved that it was all you can eat. Most of us picked the all you can eat option while two people out of the group picked separate entrees. I liked how the whole table was not forced to pick the unlimited option which was great. I ordered the edamame as a starter. The sushi rolls were huge and delicious. They had many different rolls to pick from. Ice cream was also given at the end. The service was impeccable and food came out quickly. I loved how the sushi was fresh and you could see the chef making the rolls from where you sit. Love this place. I've never had a bad experience. The sushi is great and even their Chinese food is better than almost all of the "real" Chinese restaurants in the area. The only "complaint" I could have about this place is that the all you can eat is not worth it unless you come with a big appetite, but then it's my fault for ordering it if I'm not up for it. read more

Having lunch with friends here today. We ordered sushi buffet and appetizers. You may place short orders or from their entree menus, too. Like shrimp tempura and their Bento Boxes. Ambiance is good. I'm surprised, not enough people eating lunch here on a weekday. Freshly cooked rice, fresh sliced tuna, salmon, eel, octopus, mahi-mahi and fish eggs that comprised our sushi lunch. The sliced cucumbers and avocados blends well with spicy tuna and eel rolls. Serving is moderately average. Staff are courteous and helpful. One thing I noticed with most of these Japanese Sushi Buffet restaurants here in N.J., their serving staff are Chinese, even the Sushi Chefs and short order cooks. I don't know why? In NYC, some of these sushi joints have both Japanese and Chinese servers, Chefs and cooks. But I will soon find out. I would recommend dine in date for this place. Hoping that it'll be the same quiet atmosphere like we had during lunch. Separate Men and Women's bathroom. No changing table. read more

Honestly me and my girlfriend love this place. Allow me to explain, When I first started to eat here, my parents would always get takeout from here but it was usually just their regular Japanese food, which is very good. When I figured out they also had sushi, I've been binge eating from here ever since. This facility is obviously family owned, which we love, and whoever is upfront, for me it's always a male, kindly greets me. We get to sit wherever we want which is nice and immediately get our menu and more importantly, the all you can eat menu. Me and my girlfriend snag that all you can eat so fast and started to dial up our faves. From the pictures I provided, I started off with the wonton soup and the house salad. You can't go wrong with these im telling you, the dressing on that salad is some kind of ginger dressing that I could literally drink out of a bottle if I had the chance. The wonton soup is literally impossible to mess up unless you are really in a bad restaurant but over here at Makoto they make sure to fill those mini dumplings with a nice filling pork. YUM. Next our waitress, which was very nice by the way, brings our gyoza!! This is the closest thing to crack that I will do in my life. These babies are crisped to perfection and that little tangy sauce that comes with that THANG is also do die for!! At last, our sushi. Makoto is by far the best sushi in my area and when I tell you me and my girl swallowed these I'm not lying. Every single bite was filled with happiness. HINT HINT, our favorite roll is the hell boy roll. ;) read more

This is a decent-good unlimited sushi restaurant. Dinner price was $25.95, which ended up being around $33 after tax and tip. The best thing they have is the beef negimaki. The other appetizers are pretty good, except for the shumai. My favorite rolls here were the Edison and the Pain in the ass rolls. Small dining area that is busy at dinner time. Also, the kitchen closes without notice, so make sure you ask about that. Otherwise, a good experience. read more
