Scallion pancakes - one of the best in Tri-state area Pan fried pork buns - juiciest lip smacking little things. Beef tripe is perfectly seasoned, not too spicy and high quality cuts. Soup dumplings are good but not the greatest in comparison to other spots but... still good. Beef with chili was good but fried to oblivion. Wish it was a dry stir fry. The complimentary chili oil salad was a nice touch. I enjoyed the noodles but the rice dishes felt lacking. I barely tasted the crab in the crab pork soup dumplings and some of the fats were still coagulated inside my dumpling, so that was a slight disappointment. They had 2 attentive staff that were patient and friendly. The Chinese food was pretty good with my favorite the marinated pork belly with quail eggs. Xiaolongboas (soup dumplings), fried boas, and beef noodle soup were ok. A bit disappointed with the Dan Dan noodles that were supposed to have Szechuan hot pepper but barely spicy and noodles were too soft. Also, 3-cup chicken could have more robust in flavor. The ambience is really nice-- I love the 2D black and white paint art. People literally line up to go to the one like this in NYC. The food? It's a bit mediocre. Don't get me wrong-- I'll still come here over some of the better tasting spots of its kind (like tasty moment, lao wu's, etc.) because I didn't have to WAIT here. They open early on weekends and you can walk right in (for now). The xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) are not bad. The skin is a bit thicker than I like personally, but the flavor is there. The wontons in chili oil were underwhelming to me. Then they have some random dishes like pho (but it's pretty mediocre). This place is definitely more of a trending venue that you could go to once for the unique interior. I ordered to go, and the woman helping me was incredibly patient and kind. We started with the turmeric chicken wings and the pork soup dumplings, both were amazing. The dumplings were perfectly made, and the chicken was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Their spicy sichuan dishes are particularly tasty. We loved the steamed veggie buns and veggie dan dan noodles, and are excited to come back and try more of their interesting vegetarian dishes. The chairs were sturdy and very fat-friendly, also they had one of the nicest bathrooms I've ever been in. How often is a bathroom so pretty you feel compelled to take a picture of it? This place has amazing ambience, but mediocre food. It was really just meh okay. Nothing special. They make you use your smartphone to order, I guess so the servers don't get it wrong. A big problem for us was the air conditioning. It was cranked so high, our food was served cold. I took the noodles home so I could heat them up. The soup dumplings were great, but got cold and rubbery before we could finish. You can't really take those home. That was the most disappointing thing. They really need to work on getting hot food on the tables, not lukewarm and rapidly losing heat. We've been wanting to try this place after seeing it on social media. The restaurant is 2D and looks like a sketchbook world, with the tables and overall scenery being white with black outlines. One of the tables is tall and round with a "sketchbook" tree as a centerpiece and you can see into the kitchen via a long window. Tall jars of noodles are placed above the kitchen window as well inside a long display case. We were immediately seated after arriving. The server said that we can either order through her or scan the QR code on the table and order it that way. I opted to do the latter. We ordered the following: Tomato with pan fried egg soup and thin noodles- this was disappointing because the tomatoes that were served weren't ripe and not cooked. We were expecting it to be in small chunks and cooked till it's soft. Instead it was just sliced and thrown into the soup. Zha jiang noodle soup wide noodles - this was disappointing as well in that it was mostly noodles and not enough toppings. There were a couple of sprigs of vegetables and just a table spoon of ground meat. This is one of those entrees where you feel hungry after eating. LOL. Also, we had ordered this with wide noodles but they gave us something else. Didn't feel like letting them know. Potherb mustard and tofu skin - Hubs liked this a lot. It was mostly edamame and tofu and some mustard. Mouth watering chicken- this was easily the best item of the evening. Chicken was nice and spicy and not overdone. Crab and pork soup dumplings - this was pretty good. The soup dumplings didn't break when we took it out of the steamer. Passion mango lemon tea 25% sugar - I think this restaurant partnered up with Lemomo. I've seen this tea place in NYC Chinatown. It tasted sweet and ok. I'm glad I got to try this tea in NJ instead of going to NYC for it. Hubs says great appetizers but they need to amp up their noodle game. There's been a lot of soup dumpling places opening up locally. The last time we went to a place like this was in Florida and it was a Vietnamese place a few years ago. Okay I rarely give bad reviews to a restaurant unless it actually sucked. The interior, cool but that's the only reason it got one star (also because of the fact that I can't put 0 stars) the first bowl of noodles I got was a bout a twenty minute wait, which was fine cause they were busy, but boy were the noodles soggy and disgustingly overcooked. My sister got a bowl of noodles and didn't even touch it. And my mom never even got her meal. After an hour the staff kept brushing us off saying that her food was still being made. After a while we finally annoyed them enough to check and the noodles weren't even made. They have a clear window so you can even see the chefs just standing there and not doing anything. The worst part is the waiter didn't even say sorry and gave us a two dollar discount, that was it, no apology, nothing. Never coming back ever again, please don't come here. read more
