My first time coming to this cute sushi restaurant in Metuchen! It was pretty packed for a Friday night but my friend and I were lucky to not have to wait for a table. Our order was taken very quickly and the food came out with great timing too. We both ordered chirashi bowls, which come with soup or salad. I loved the salad, the ginger dressing was great! My eel cucumber roll came out next and I was super impressed with it. You can tell in the picture how finely the cucumber was chopped! Sometimes rolls are made with too much rice but this roll literally has the perfect rice to filling ratio. The chirashi bowl comes with 15 pieces of sashimi on a bed of seasoned sushi rice. The rice was great, sometimes the seasoning can be hard to get right. The fish was good quality, but sliced a little too thinly for me. Some pieces were too soft for my liking but my preference has always been thicker, meatier slices of fish. Overall a good experience! If I came back it would probably just be for rolls.

The vibes of this place is good for a cute sushi date! The staff is really nice and attentive. The sushi itself is not any thing special! Pretty normal sushi and a little over priced for the quality of the sushi. The spicy maki combo was a good portion but I felt like it was mushy with the rice and at the end it all tasted the same. Nothing really stood out to me and probably won't go out of my way to come back for the sushi. Maybe will try the stir fry and wok options! It's a great location in Metuchen and close to the parking lot on Pearl Street.

#ThankfulThursday I have been coming here for years and needed to write a review to thank the owners and workers at Sushi Suzuki. Everything is super fresh and delicious. During my recent visit to Sushi Suzuki in June 2020, we got a table outside and the staff went above and beyond. We had two babies at the table and they did everything to make it easy for us. Not only did the staff wear masks the entire, but also kept a safe distance and were on top of their cleaning without compromising that warm friendly service. Will definitely be returning again and again!

My favorite sushi place! I come here all the time with my family. A great quiet ambient place to grab a great meal. Staff are so friendly. Tokyo Rolls and Pork gyoza are incredible and a must try. Highly recommend this place!

Pretty good sushi in the heart of Metuchen. The service is good and they do have a great number of menu options!

My friends and I got chirashi with rice and it also came with miso soup which was a great pairing. We might've underestimated the portions and I ended up packing the rice since there was too much to eat! The sashimi was fresh and the staff was really nice. It's a tiny restaurant and they play calm music, giving it cozy vibes.

Don't order from here. You'll only be able to order maybe one time before they ban you because you can't have any issues with your food. They ban customers for even dare raising complaints about the food. I've never been disrespected and blamed. Why would I stick on a short piece of hair on my own food? Restaurant wise it's average. Sushi, the salmon is alright. Cooked food is all pretty salty. Typical fusion Asian place.

Meh. I've ordered takeout from here before because it's really close to me, but switched over to a different sushi spot because it was much better for the same price. Then I didn't come here for quite some time. The other day, I came back for dine-in during dinner time and it was terrible. I'm not sure how this place has four star ratings or is always busy inside, but people must have low expectations of what decent sushi is. First, we ordered a special roll ($14-15) that supposedly had uni (sea urchin), eel, and avocado. I get excited every time I see uni, but when it came out it looked like an average eel avocado roll and barely had even a drop of uni at all. Keep reading, it gets much worse. My husband had a really long piece of hair wrapped around one of his rolls. Obviously, it wasn't his and I was sitting way across the table and hadn't reached over. They took it and replaced the one roll, and that was that. Then, he took out 3 pieces of fish bone from his mouth from the eel avocado roll. One was huge too. I mean, we're Asian so we are usually used to fish bone in fish, but we don't expect it in our rolls at sushi restaurants. The only reason I'm giving the second star after this experience is because my take out experiences were "ok"/average and not terrible. Either way, I'm sticking to other local spots.

Update May 7, 2018 Having lunch here with the family. We ordered Tuna tartar and Salmon skin and Seaweed salad for appetizer. I ordered Beef Teriyaki bento this time. The beef was thinly sliced, marinated, soft and moist. Taste good.

It's a good chance to try different types of fish and sushi rolls since there's a lot of variety and all the plates cost the same price. It's about $4.10 per plate. The thickness of the fish on the nigiri isn't super thick but it's still delicious. I recommend the garlic skipjack tuna! The flavor and pepper on the tuna is really good. Also as the plates are rotating, you may be at the end of the line, there may not be sushi that you want when it comes around. So a tip is to order the sushi itself on the tablet and the plate will be zoomed to you! (It's the same price). Lastly I would recommend to reserve a table before coming as there may be a wait.

I think the ambiance is interesting enough, and there are some collaborations (eat x amount of plates for a gachapon keychain from y franchise, etc). However, the food is just not good. The sushi is thin and not always super fresh. The rice is mediocre and not well-textured. Keep in mind, this is not a cheap sushi spot. The plates cost around $4 each and usually have only one or two pieces of nigiri. This is a slightly premium price with nowhere near premium quality. None of the flavors are particularly interesting, filling, or well-made. I understand you're paying for the experience. Go if you want to try a conveyor-style sushi with friends, but I wouldn't go if you care about quality sushi.

We had a party of 6 and still had to wait about 25 minutes for a table as the place is pretty small. Right after we sat down we accidentally spilled a glass of water and it took so much effort to flag down a waiter to get some napkins. They didn't even help us clean it up, we could barely mop up what was on spilled on the table because they gave us very little napkins. Then when we asked for more napkins when the food came out the waitress counted it out and gave us exactly 6, one for each person. As for the food, a big disappointment. The tuna was not the bright pink color it normally is and instead had a dark red/purple hue to it, a little concerning. The yellowtail and squid were super chewy. The mackeral was very fishy, which I understand mackeral is on the fishy side for raw fish but I've had it in Japan where is was the exact opposite. Honestly, the only fresh tasting fish was the salmon. The food was slow to come out even though the wait staff was very attentive with grabbing our menu orders. Most likely will not be returning.

Upon entertaining on a weekend evening, there were a few tables with patrons but not too busy. The restaurant did seem a bit understaffed with only one person taking orders / bringing food out, making it difficult to flag down this one person to successfully take our order and ask for anything additional throughout the night. Gyudon: for the price, we were really surprised at how small of a portion this was. It was not only in a small bowl, but the meat was layered on top perfectly deceiving you to think that there was more than there actually was. The majority of this dish was rice, and with limited sauce at that. As displayed on the menu images it was to be served with a runny egg, but unfortunately we got a fully cooked one (disappointing, as we were looking for something to mix with the rice!) Sushi: We got a 3 rolls and they were just alright. They were pretty small in size, with less rice than I'm used to (which is something I do like - I would rather more fish than rice!) With us getting spicy salmon, spicy tuna, and spicy scallop - they all kind of tasted the same, so I wish the fish wasn't as heavily masked with spicy mayo. Ramen: I got the black garlic ramen, and it wasn't the best, but wasn't the worst. I've purchased fresh ramen packages in the supermarket before and it tasted just like that, so it made me disappointed knowing I could achieve the same at home. The soup itself was extremely rich and fatty, and the charsiu had no flavor whatsoever leaving much to be desired. The main reason I'm rating this so low is upon having my last bites of sushi, I could tell something was off. I don't recall which specifically I had but I made a statement that it was extremely fishy and off putting. Fast forward later that night, I was hunched over the toilet vomiting with stomach pain - and I can deduct that the sushi was the culprit. I might consider trying Ottoyee again due to the great deals they have listed on food delivery apps, but the sushi quality (quite literally) put a bad taste in my mouth.
