I normally don't write much of reviews, but this one is a huge disappointment for me. When we walked in to the restaurant, we saw a staff was picking his nails. That's the first impression for this time since I haven't been there for over 3 yrs. I remembered this place was always busy with dine-in and take out, but not this time. Food here now is way crappy and cheap comparing to 3 years ago. Poor quality, not authentic Japanese. This is a low cost sushi! What a scam! Shirmp Tempura Appetizer???? 2 real shrimps and the rest are veggie for $8.50, I ordered through yelp, they charged me$9.00 for the tempura. So, I ordered shrimp tempura not veggie tempura. On top of that Sushi are not fresh at all. Coconut curry packed with udon, 3-4 pieces of baby bokchoi and chicken. They all were already mixed together with curry soup. I just expected them to separate udon and curry. Probably, too high expectation I guess. Highly NOT recommend this place to anyone I know and will NOT come back for good! read more

My first time coming to this cute sushi restaurant in Metuchen! It was pretty packed for a Friday night but my friend and I were lucky to not have to wait for a table. Our order was taken very quickly and the food came out with great timing too. We both ordered chirashi bowls, which come with soup or salad. I loved the salad, the ginger dressing was great! My eel cucumber roll came out next and I was super impressed with it. You can tell in the picture how finely the cucumber was chopped! Sometimes rolls are made with too much rice but this roll literally has the perfect rice to filling ratio. The chirashi bowl comes with 15 pieces of sashimi on a bed of seasoned sushi rice. The rice was great, sometimes the seasoning can be hard to get right. The fish was good quality, but sliced a little too thinly for me. Some pieces were too soft for my liking but my preference has always been thicker, meatier slices of fish. Overall a good experience! If I came back it would probably just be for rolls. read more

The vibes of this place is good for a cute sushi date! The staff is really nice and attentive. The sushi itself is not any thing special! Pretty normal sushi and a little over priced for the quality of the sushi. The spicy maki combo was a good portion but I felt like it was mushy with the rice and at the end it all tasted the same. Nothing really stood out to me and probably won't go out of my way to come back for the sushi. Maybe will try the stir fry and wok options! During my recent visit to Sushi Suzuki in June 2020, we got a table outside and the staff went above and beyond. We had two babies at the table and they did everything to make it easy for us. Cute sushi place in downtown Metuchen. The food is always good. I've tried many dishes and have never been disappointed. Ordered takeout from here and I was pleasantly surprised. My only hang up was that with the $50+ of food we ordered, there were no utensils. I made sure to ask the server for chopsticks, forks, and spoons on the way out and she said there were but nope. I ordered the spicy shrimp sushi, chicken and shrimp hibachi (came with a side salad and miso soup), lemon grass soup w. shrimp, and broccoli with garlic sauce. I have literally no complaints about any of the food. The broccoli and garlic sauce was DELICIOUS. The perfect amount of sauce and drenched in fresh garlic which was just yummy. Meh. I've ordered takeout from here before because it's really close to me, but switched over to a different sushi spot because it was much better for the same price. Then I didn't come here for quite some time. The other day, I came back for dine-in during dinner time and it was terrible. I'm not sure how this place has four star ratings or is always busy inside, but people must have low expectations of what decent sushi is. First, we ordered a special roll ($14-15) that supposedly had uni (sea urchin), eel, and avocado. I get excited every time I see uni, but when it came out it looked like an average eel avocado roll and barely had even a drop of uni at all. Keep reading, it gets much worse. My husband had a really long piece of hair wrapped around one of his rolls. Obviously, it wasn't his and I was sitting way across the table and hadn't reached over. They took it and replaced the one roll, and that was that. Then, he took out 3 pieces of fish bone from his mouth from the eel avocado roll. One was huge too. I mean, we're Asian so we are usually used to fish bone in fish, but we don't expect it in our rolls at sushi restaurants. The only reason I'm giving the second star after this experience is because my take out experiences were "ok"/average and not terrible. Either way, I'm sticking to other local spots. read more

This may be, roll-for-roll, the highest quality sushi in the Edison/Metuchen area. Ingredients rich and fresh, with a distinct taste that separates itself from some the local, take-out offerings in the area. Sure the price point is rather high, especially for the area, but it is TOTALLY worth it. Trust me, and their service is super fast for pick-up, even with massive lines. Came here for lunch and were seated quickly. We ordered lunch specials--I got the sushi and she got two avocado rolls. Soup and salad were pretty standard. My friend ordered her rolls with brown rice instead of white and when it came out, it was white rice. So we asked if we could get it with brown rice but they said no, they already made it. After a bit, they finally remade it but it just left a bad taste in our mouth. All of the staff were not only exceptional in keeping a safe distance and keeping things clean, but also incredibly friendly and genuine. Food arrived in a timely manner, and was better than I remembered. I got the tricolor sushi and kani salad and the nigiri was so yummy. Quality has definitely gone up over the years! Also, most outdoor dining set ups have around an hour limit, I liked that they didn't rush us at all and even said to take our time after we paid. I am a big fan of this little sushi restaurant in downtown Metuchen. I confess to eating dinner here at least once a week. The sushi is beautiful to look at; each plate is a little masterpiece. Everything is carefully prepared to be a pleasure tot he eye as well as the palate. The regular dishes are yummy and they often have specials for something new and interesting. The decor is understated and casual and the service is friendly and efficient. We love the special rolls, the chirashi sushi and especially the kani salad, which is just a little spicy and a perfect juxtaposition of flavors and textures.
