After a team get together, I had the munchies. My coworker and I wanted to walk around the block, and I noticed this small sushi spot. I decided to satisfy my craving with seafood! It's located across of The 'World Famous' Waiting Room and La Chula Latin Fusion on E Cherry St in downtown Rahway. There's paid street parking and parking garages around the area. The shop was a very cute hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Upon entering, we were greeted by an older Asian chef making the rolls. I ordered their Rahway Roll with shrimp tempura for takeout, and it was amazing! The sauce was delicious, there wasn't an excessive amount of rice, and it had a generous amount of minced salmon and large shrimp, which I loved. The tempura was still very crunchy, even though it was takeout. It was just one roll to satisfy my craving, but it was really satisfying. Great prices, good food based on the one roll I had ordered. The next time I'm in Rahway, I will definitely keep this place in mind. read more

Came here for a quick bite, the ambiance was quiet, wish the music was louder, but at first sight it's a clean and well maintained spot. They don't clean their bathrooms well though, I went in and found a dirty toilet that hasn't been flushed. In terms of the food, it was average sushi. I wish the rolls were bigger, and their ginger didn't taste very fresh. My favorite roll was their salmon and avocado roll with good salmon to avocado and even rice ratio. On the menu our 3 rolls combo came with a miso soup, but when we ordered another round they asked if we wanted the second soup. That wouldn't be a problem but if I pay for what is offered, regardless if I finish it or not, should be served because it was what I payed for. Very cheap of the establishment. My service was fine, but I did notice that a woman particularly treated costumers in a condescending way. Most likely a boss or manager (not a waitress), but as I watched her serve others behind the register, her tone was off and not your average costumer service act. I was expecting a cute mom and pops joint that had a good down to home sushi bar feel... just know, this is my First time at this location and you can not find parking anywhere... super unfortunate, especially since I just needed a curbside loading/unloading to just pick up an order. The place was tight and dim, not so welcoming... like a dungeon I know, it off to expect from a highly rated establishment. It also could be timing!? This was not the experience or welcoming I'd expect for my first time anywhere. Could be the frustration of not being able to find parking for 15 past pick up time bringing the sushi to a stale state than it could have been experience. I love wasabi and craved wasabi.... there wasn't enough wasabi provided for the sushi and had to pay an extra 50 cents for a small sauce container. I ordered 3 rolls, totaling to $40 and some change, spider roll/shrimp tempura roll/Rahway roll... could have been my poor selection, but it felt like a heavy meal and was hard to get through 6pieces, 2 from each. What a great find! Really flavorful sushi with great texture and taste. Ordered the Chirashi bowl and miso soup as the included side ( choice of soup or salad). Based on reviews, Rahway Sushi was a good choice for takeout. Ordered seaweed salad, one spicy tuna with scallions roll and a don cats (breaded pork chop on rice with a fried egg). Nice meal. Sushi and seaweed were very fresh. Don Katsu was okay, but fried egg was a bit bland, and pork seemed a little dry. Parking is not easy to find - just a few spots on the driveway next to restaurant. Drove around a few times and then parked in the city garage. Free parking for three hours, but spaces were few in the evening. I parked on the roof (4th floor) and then had to find the restaurant after being turned around and around in the garage. I mentioned to restaurant staff and she showed me the back door of the restaurant leading into a mall like area that had a door across the street from the parking garage. Food was good! Staff was okay, I tried using two different visa gift cards and it's money on them to make a purchase however it got declined. So I told her it was a gift card since usally with car readers you have to input it a different way for it to accept a gift card. She just insisted that they do take everything and that it was my cards, after telling her it's not since I had just used them before coming here she said I would have to call the visa and ask. She just kept talking in a very condescending tone which I didn't understand because it was a very simple misunderstanding. I really wanted to love this place because the menu is very promising. I absolutely love sushi and Korean food. I picked up a big lunch and I've got to say, there was a lot of room for improvement. The restaurant was empty when I arrived, but that shouldn't matter. The bento box was a nice amount of food and variety at an excellent price. But there was no wasabi or ginger for the California roll. I think it was an oversight but it was disappointing when I got home. Also, the avocado in the roll was kind of brown which made it unappetizing. I liked the bulgogi and again it was generous for the price. But the rice that came with it was sushi rice (flavored with vinegar and maybe sugar) so it tasted weird with the beef. I made my own white rice to go with it and it was much better. Details like this really matter. The dumplings and shu mai were the frozen kind and not so good. They should definitely make homemade instead. Its not hard (I've made them) and makes a very big difference. Also maybe consider making your own dipping sauce instead of just out of the bottle. I was excited to try the fried chicken wings because Korean fried chicken is out of this world good. But they were not good at all. First, a couple of them still had feathers on them. Yuck. The coating was too thick and not crispy although I think they were freshly fried. If I were them, I would give less food and/or raise the prices a bit and improve the quality of the food and work on the details. I'm not going to give up on this place yet. I think it's family run which is something that makes me want to support them. The service was friendly and efficient. I'm going to go back and try some other things that others mentioned as being good. And I really hope they will take my suggestions into consideration because I would love to be a very loyal customer and would make it a go to spot for my coworkers and friends. read more

My husband ordered the special roll which had mozzarella on it, sooo yummy. Our server was nice, she provided my daughter with training chopsticks! Also, The owner was so nice she came at the end of our meal and gave my 5year old daughter ice cream in the shape of a fish! She really made her day! I definitely recommend this place. Went here for the first time on a Saturday night with my boyfriend. We ordered a spicy tuna roll, spicy shrimp roll, spicy lobster roll, rainbow roll, and the shrimp dynamite roll. The three normal rolls were delicious and served with the spicy mayo already drizzled over it. The rainbow roll was huge and great for sharing. But the shrimp dynamite roll was the surprise winner of the night. It was listed with mozzarella cheese and we figured it was inside the roll but amazingly it came out covered in melted mozzarella and was so good. Never expected it and were more than pleasantly surprised. We were so stuffed and asked for the bill and they brought it to us with a complimentary green tea mochi split to share. I've been here a bunch of times for a quick lunch. I recommend the udon soup with tempura, perfect for this weather. It's a nice portion with a good flavor in the broth. It's not bland like I've had at other places. Since I am not a huge fan of shrimp, the waitress gave me veggie tempura as a replacement. Very tasty and crunchy, not greasy, and cooked perfectly. Sushi is always fresh too. The only downsides are that they are closed on Mondays (but a lot of downtown Rahway places are closed) and the small seating area. My husband and I have been planning on hitting this spot up for a while, we just never got around to it. Finally walked in one night about 45 minutes before they closed. It had one larger party and two other couples seated which suggested good things to us. It is small though, and we took the last table available. The service was good and always attentive. We got the edamame, seaweed salad, sweet potato tempura roll, veg dumplings, and the avocado cucumber roll. My husband also got a few special rolls and the spicy garlic wings. We tried seaweed salad, veggie dumpling soup and shrimp dumpling soup, fried pork gyoza, veggie fried rice, avocado and asparagus roll, tempura sweet potato& spicy crab roll. Everything was delicious and fresh. The soup, rice, and gyoza all came to the table nice and hot. And a bonus, when the owner found out it was our first time there they added a dessert on the house! Just be aware there isn't a lot of parking on the small side street but you can park in the parking deck around the corner for free up to 2 hours so that makes it very easy.
