I have not had sushi for probably over a decade. I tried it once and decided it wasn't for me. I'm not even talking raw fish sushi, I'm talking tempura roll haha. So when a friend chose Sushi O for her birthday outing I was less than excited, I was told they had hibachi style chicken and steak so that softened the blow. Sushi O is conveniently located off of route 1 in a medium size plaza with a good amount of parking. When you walk in, the soothing dim lights with the soft purple icicle lights is such a vibe, great for a date night. The music also has a soothing quality that almost puts you in a calming trance. The restaurant is well kept and clean. Let me tell you, the servers? Top notch. We were helped by a man when we first came in, and later a woman. Both were incredibly pleasant, attentive, and did not rush us at all. We were there from just before 6 until after 8... a record for our after work crowd!! I also left my favorite sunglasses behind which would have been so upsetting, but our female server ran out to make sure I did not leave without them, I was so appreciative. Last but certainly not least- the FOOD! So remember, I'm a sushi hater? No longer! They had a fantastic peanut and avocado roll that I ordered with soy paper instead of seaweed (I really don't like the taste of the sea) paired with the soy sauce it was a nice amalgamation of flavor and texture, I thoroughly enjoyed it. We also ordered pan fried gyoza and edamame for the table both extremely well executed. A friend said the gyoza was melt in your mouth quality and I felt that was quite accurate. I tried my friend's sweet potato roll which did have seaweed wrap on it but I actually really liked that too! For my meal I got hibachi steak. It was a generous portion and very tasty. I'm not big on mushrooms but I even gobbled those up- so good! With the hibachi meals you get plenty of food- salad, miso soup, your choice of hibachi style protein, hibachi mixed vegetables & hibachi rice. I had such a great experience at Sushi O, I will definitely be back. They have officially converted me! read more

I've been going to Sushi-O for years and have usually had a good experience. It's great for lunch because they offer some decent specials and the service is quick. It's located in a small strip mall on Rt. 1 and can be easy to miss. The ambiance inside is on the darker side, which I don't mind and they play some eclectic music. The staff are friendly and attentive and turn tables rather well which is great if you're on your lunch break. The food is pretty consistent and tasty - it does the trick without costing a fortune. I especially enjoy the spicy crab salad, sweet home special roll, and the fried rice. The 2 roll combo is a great lunch deal and comes with salad. The dressing is delicious. I used to work nearby in Edison (9yrs ago) and would stop in or order to go lunch special. The quality was always very good. Had the opportunity to go back recently and everything is still top notch. Changing review for the 3rd time, from 3 to 5 stars. I haven't visited for about 10 years, and happened to be in the area and decided to give it another try. Interior did not change much, same layout, but different people; and man, different cook is what brings back the score. Ordered 5 rolls, and every single one was able to beat my expectations; just complete success. Everything was eaten. I have to specifically highlight the monster roll (the one that gets hot stuff inside and salad on top); and another eel one. Price level increased, but name a restaurant that does not has recent increases. I even think that the price I paid for 5 rolls was very reasonable, if not on the lower side. Ah, honorable mentioning goes to edamame. Just perfect amount of salt and temperature. The only drawback is speed of service, but Im very ok with that for a Monday night. I will come back for another visit soon, and that time I will order sashimi, and write another review! read more

Sushi O is my favorite sushi spot in the area! Food: everything was delicious. The sushi was super fresh and great quality. The Katsu was really crispy without too thick of a breading. The dipping sauce for it was delicious as well. Service: our server was really nice and attentive. Our food came out quickly as well. Ambiance: it's a smaller place but nice inside. There's a mixture of tables and booths. The bathrooms were clean as well. Value: the lunch prices are such a good value. Perhaps things have changed since I've been here years ago but did not have the best experience going in 2022. We ordered several items and almost everything was lackluster. The green tea was lukewarm, rather than hot. My husband asked for water 3 times before he received it. Overall the service was ok. The sushi pizza wasn't bad and the salmontini was also very nice. I ordered a roti canai which we did not get until the end of the meal even though it's an appetizer. The rolls were a little underwhelming. Went here around 5pm with a friend yesterday for some sushi. My friend accidentally forgot her face mask. The gentleman at the host stand was kind enough to get her a paper mask. He sat us a a spacious booth which was nice. The interior of the place is dark, with some fluorescent lighting which gives a cool vibe. They also play up-beat music which is fun. We brought a bottle of white wine with us as this place is BYOB. We chatted and took our time deciding what to order. The menu is extensive - they have a number of special rolls and provide pictures of them to reference which is nice but makes it hard to decide! The waitress popped by a couple times. She told us it's only a 1 and a half hour seating time probably around 20-30 minutes of being there. It was understandable just how she told us was a bit abrupt. The dual mountain app and kenji salad were very good. I asked for spicy mayo on side - their spicy mayo is more of a nut type of sauce - more yellowish than standard spicy mayo. Not entirely sure how I felt about it but ate it. The garlic broccoli was delicious. I ended up going with the spicy paradise special roll with added jalapeño on top. Also very fresh and delicious. The bathroom is a little stark compared to the rest of the restaurant. Seems like it could be renovated. I also would make sure to call ahead before coming for indoor dining - as I think they might only do it Fri-Sun. I have never had such a bad experience at a restaurant before. The service was terrible, we had to wait over 15 minutes to just get a glass of water and longer for our food. There was a child (I'm fairly certain the daughter of an employee) running around the restaurant holding Tupperware and screaming. But I understand that sometimes restaurants are understaffed and cannot control the resulting issues. What they can control is rudeness and how they treat their customers. Yet, our waiter (a middle aged white man with curly hair and glasses named Micheal), upon clearing our dishes, remarked loudly MULTIPLE times that he was shocked "we ordered so much food, especially for a group of ladies." We were so stunned that we asked him to repeat himself, sure we had misheard. He repeated himself twice. I was with two friends, one of whom, is pregnant. He repeated himself twice. For the record, we ordered 4 sushi rolls, one entree and 3 appetizers. Most of the portions were tiny. But it is never acceptable to comment on someones order size. We have been going here for almost 10 years and love it. We found out that there are new owners now, but the food is still great. We did have a situation where we did not like the tuna one evening that we ordered and the chef was insulted, not sensitive to our complaint at all. He said it was special tuna, which we did not like at all and we did not request. That turned me off a bit and I was a little shocked, especially since I pointed out that we travel 45 minutes to come to their restaurant and have been customers for over one decade. Also shared a happy monster roll and fried ice cream. It all tasted OK, but everything just seemed a bit off. The noodles were too saucy, the beef was too chewy, the rolls were too squishy, and the ice cream dough was soggy. And none of the flavors seemed authentically asian. I feel like my disappointing experience was on me though. No oriental customers inside despite being in central Edison, front staff seemed chinese, and missing standard menu items (like udon noodle soup). Of course while driving from work to my house i noticed this place. Frankly outside, it looks quite small.you can easily missed it. Long story short we decided to give it. I got their Orange Dragon Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll, and Miso Soup. They were pretty good with decent price. Probably one of the better sushi places around this area. They messed up my pickup order, but they were really nice and fixed it as soon as they could. It seems that they are currently open for dine-in on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only due to covid. The special pork belly sandwich on the menu was alright. It could have been a little more tender. The sushi roles were decent. Nothing to really complain about. Everything cost $ except for water. Even basic green tea. $0.50 but you get refills often. They do come out quite fast after putting in the order which was surprisingly. The ambiance of the restaurant is quite dark. The setting is set up as if it is for some romantic dinner and the restaurant is small. If you flip after the first few pages of the menu. Their are guidelines that ARE NOT TOLD YOU UP FRONT. Once you sit down, it is a little shocking with the rules and time limits. My 4 stars are for the food, not the surprises and missing foods that we ordered. read more

A very cute spot! The inside has a nice ambiance. Even though I went on a Tuesday night, I saw signs that said on weekends the maximum time for dining is 1.5 hours so it must be popular! I ordered the green roll and shrimp shumai, both of which were very good! It's located on route 1 south in a plaza that can be easy to miss. Overall a good experience.
