Hubs had been wanting to give this place a try but we keep forgetting about it because of all the other options nearby. LOL. We finally made it here after exhausting all the nearby restaurants. The restaurant is medium in size, with pale yellow walls and cushy burgundy seats covering the dark brown floors. Framed black and white photos adorn the leftmost wall while the name of the restaurant is on the rightmost wall along with a framed painting. Finally, in the back, you can see the counter, which has a lucky cat and some plants on it, as well as a large painting of pink flowers in a pond behind it all. We ordered the following: Baby oyster omelet, which has pan fried baby oyster omelet with chives- this was delicious. We haven't had this for a while and enjoyed it a lot. Golden fried eggplant, which is lightly fried eggplant with cubes of bell peppers and onions. We all liked this dish a lot, as well. It was nicely fried. Claypot egg noodle, which has pearl noodle with minced pork, shrimp, squid, bean sprout in egg gravy. We've been looking for this entree for a while. Last time Hubs had this was 15 years ago and it was 30 years ago for me. Hubs loved this dish. Basil fish filet, which is stir fried fish filet with bell peppers, onions, basil leave and mushrooms. I thought this looked sweet and sour and was surprised it wasn't. Daughter liked it a lot and was addicted. Hubs was shocked at how flavorful it was. There were plenty of onion and peppers. There is parking in the back of the building but we managed to find a parking space in the front. It's a little tricky parking there but we managed. Service was quick and minimal. Coco Asian in Edison is a good restaurant and great restaurant for take out. The staff are courteous and conversational. We ordered pineapple fried rice, crispy pork and Chinese broccoli, papaya salad, chicken satay, and shrimp pad sie ewe. Some of the dishes like crispy pork and Chinese broccoli and the pad sie ewe were lackluster. The pad sie ewe lacked flavor of the sour sweet tamarind edge I'm used to. The pork lacked texture as the pork was very very soggy soft. These are usually my go to dishes with southeast Asian cuisine and they were alright albeit with some sambal at home. The satay was fully seasoned, spices and choosing milk and meat were tender. Their peanut sauce is excellent and creamy with a touch of spice to lighten the richness. The papaya salad was crunchy and pungent with a good tart crisp. The fried rice was well executed with fluffy rice and bold flavor every grain that didn't feel too mushy whatsoever. The sticky rice and mango were the best of the dishes and made the meal. Decided to give this place another shot and it wasn't bad. Came by at almost 2 on a Saturday, and there were a few tables dining at that time. I had the Chow kueh teow, and ordered it with the thin noodles but they brought the flat noodles, which we just kept since we were kind of on a schedule. The noodles were pretty good (unlike the basil flat noodles I had the last time for takeout). Hubby decided to be adventurous and ordered from the Filipino menu at a Malaysian restaurant (not sure why), and it was a mistake. He had the sizzling sisig, which just tasted like leftover pork they refried with some onions and other spices. I probably won't be back for a third time. The taste of the fresh Thai basil came through strongly. The mango tofu swayed more sweet than savory, which wasn't what I was in the mood for at the time. I was also hoping that the crispy Thai chicken would be a little more spicy, but it was very crispy and moist despite the fry on the chicken. The restaurant still advertised as Malaysian food, but some how dont taste quite right. We ordered the beef rendang, and does not taste like beef rendang but just beef curry. Roti Canai came from a pack, and not quite the same as the norm when we ordered them. The prices got higher of course, but quality and quantity has gone down since owner change. Yes, restauranteur also didnt tell us , we dont get free brown rice like before, and it's $1.65 an order even though we ordered 11 dishes. Presentation was poor, we ordered Coco house special tofu, it came in a small bowl. At $21.95 , it should be presented in a nice platter like before. Of course the quantity has reduced but price per dish gone up. Too many more disappointments , so we wont frequent this restaurant as much. Hainan chicken was one of the best I've had in New Jersey. I'm surprised at the low rating of one of the more authentic restaurants that I never want to see closed. Please go support! I also like the okra, ask for it with garlic with if you do like the shrimp paste taste. Prices are aligned with the quality you get. This has chicken and shrimp, but the broth is the strongest, most delectable broth you will ever taste! We've been coming to Coco's for the last decade and it's one of our favorites in the area! Food: everything pictured are our go-to items every time we come. The dry curry beef is to die for. Food was ok. I've had my share of traditional malaysian food and this was definitely nowhere near traditional. Roti canai came from a premade store bought NAAN. Pad thai was ok but dry, but most importantly, the beef rendang was 50% chewy tendon and fat, couldn't even tear a piece out without it snapping back like a rubber band. After spending some time at Sam Ash, I came here to grab some lunch. It was quite busy on Saturday but there was enough room for us to walk in! I mentioned I am vegetarian and the host was very accommodating to my dietary restrictions. It's a very casual atmosphere and I personally think despite the amazing food, the main owner is the most warm, friendly and pleasant surprise! He knows so many languages and came out to converse with his guests in their native tongues. I was appalled and have never had such interaction like that, what a cool person! For an appetizer we had roti canai and Thai papaya salad. They made the side dish without chicken for the roti canai and it came out delicious! The roti reminded me of paratha consistency. The Thai papaya salad tasted so fresh and refreshing, very happy I ordered it! For the main, I got Thai curry and the waiter said he would ask the chefs to make their current special dish vegetarian : snowpeas with garlic sauce. Both items were so good! I was especially surprised at the snowpeas because it paired so beautifully with the rice and curry. The garlic was not too overpowering in taste either making it a great addition to the main course. For dessert, I ordered sticky mango rice. I don't think it stuck out in particular but hard to go wrong with this! The noodles also have the right about of vegetables, egg, and shrimp. However, I only gave 4 stars because I notice the consistency of the spice/chili varies--sometimes it's pretty spicy and sometimes very little heat. The front staff are very friendly and so it gives a family-owned restaurant feeling. I have been to this place several times that are small location located close to H Mart. They have some pretty good Malaysian dishes and everything is served family style. Service is good and we enjoy it when we come to eat . We usually have our staple of items that we order.
