The ambience is quite different than a lot of the Vietnamese places we have tried, it's a little more upscale, but that's not quite right. Service is crisp, the food comes at a nice pace. Came here for the pho, as it was my first time visiting this location. We were seated after a short wait, and the food arrived fairly quickly, which was a great start. The initial customer service was warm and welcoming, and we were seated promptly. However, once our food arrived, it felt like the service tapered off. No one checked in on us throughout the meal to see if we needed anything or if everything was to our liking. A few table touches would have made the dining experience feel much more attentive. For appetizers, we ordered the shrimp and pork spring rolls. They were fresh and delicious, though I do think the portion size could be a bit larger for the $6.95 price. For our entrees, we both ordered the oxtail pho. It looked very appetizing when it arrived. I always like to take a sip of the broth before adding any condiments so I can appreciate its natural flavor. Unfortunately, the broth was very bland and lacked the rich, aromatic depth I expect from a good pho. It was disappointing because the presentation was excellent, but the broth ultimately fell short of expectations. Overall, the experience had a strong start with friendly service and prompt food delivery, but the lack of follow-up service and the underwhelming broth left me disappointed. What bothered us most about this visit was not any single mistake, but the general lack of care from beginning to end. Our waitress took our order without writing anything down, and that carelessness quickly showed. We specifically asked for the bean sprouts to be cooked because we were dining with a toddler, but that request was forgotten. We also ordered a smoothie that never arrived. At first we let it go, assuming that if it never came out, it probably wouldn't appear on the bill. Unfortunately, it did, so we had to ask for it to be removed. The billing correction was then handled in a confusing way. We were given two separate receipts: one showing the full amount with a 3% credit card fee added, and another showing the smoothie being deducted as a separate transaction. It wasn't immediately clear how the two receipts were meant to be read together, especially since one of the totals appeared higher than the original bill. To be clear, the 3% charge itself wasn't really the issue. The problem was that while correcting their own mistake, no one took a moment to explain what was happening or offer even a simple apology for the confusion - or for the missed order, for that matter. That was really the theme of the entire experience: forgetfulness, confusion, and a complete lack of acknowledgment. No one said "sorry for the confusion," no one said "that was our mistake," and when we left, no one acknowledged us or thanked us for coming. Mistakes happen. The restaurant is quite modern and chic on the inside, despite its basic outward appearance. I loved that they recognized me for being a traveler with my roller suitcase and gave me a seat that would let me have it near by without getting in everyone's way. The food is tasty, especially the grilled pork summer roll. I predict it is prepared in the style of East Asian barbecue, which is tangy and slightly sweet. The entrée was very tasty for its spice, but also had a slight tangy sweetness to it. Desert was conveniently packaged as ready to be taken to go, regardless of actual intention. Went here again this past month and had a wonderful experience. I didn't want pho but I have allergies and didn't know what I could eat. I asked my server what dry beef dish was available that didn't have nuts and sesame. He immediately recommended his favorite - shaking beef and rice. As well as showing me a section on menu that would fit criteria. I decided to take his recommendation and I'm so glad I did - the dish was delicious! I've been coming here since the South Plainfield location first opened, and I've always loved it. The food is consistently delicious, and the restaurant is clean and well-maintained. They also play great music, which adds to the atmosphere. This time, I visited with my goddaughter. When we entered, the host greeted us warmly and guided us to our table. Pho is good. Service is extremely low and careless. I came with a party of 6 and order a kids pho ahead while the adults decided what they wanted. At the end of it all the food came out scattered and the kids pho came out with all the food. No one came in and checked on us after food came out. We had to call the restaurant over the phone and ask them to come give us the check. I've been here before and had to wait 20 minutes just to be greeted. They have an extensive menu, which I've started to explore more and more each time I come instead of sticking to just pho. Overall, their food is great - full of flavor and great portions. I've had their pho, bahn mi, rice noodle plate, and fried rice. All tasted great! I will warn though -- they seem to have a large kitchen with staff that works quickly, but I once got sick after eating their shrimp fried rice, and another time there was a piece of plastic in my bahn mi when I ordered delivery. I was so excited to try my first taste of pho and based on reviews this seemed to be a good spot to taste it. While the broth, veggies, & noodle was very tasty, the meat (oxtail) was way too tough. The meat wasn't tender at all; I could barely get anything off the bone...I just gave up. #VeryDisappointing. Overall the pho wasn't "half bad" so in keeping with that notion, if I could, I'd rate this place 2.5 stars; but since I can't - you only get 2 stars from me. I would rate this a 3.5/5 The avocado smoothie was great, creamy, not too sweet, and refreshing. The appetizers were good we got both summer and spring rolls, can't really go wrong with those. For a place that has pho in their name I expected it to be better. It was just okay, broth was mid and the pho with the meat half of the pieces were very fatty. I think the rice dishes are better, the meat was tender and flavorful. Like most Asian restaurants the service has no frills which I prefer. The first time I ate here was through a Yelp Elite experience - see one of my previous reviews on my page from that visit! This is my first time returning to Pho Today and this meal was just as good! There are multiple other locations including Bridgewater, Plainsboro, and Fort Lee. The Bridgewater location is actually the closest to me, but I drive the extra 22 minutes to this specific location for the short rib pho since it's not available in Bridgewater. My fiance and I waited about 10 minutes for a table and another 10 minutes for a waiter to take our order but after the slow start, all the food came out pretty quickly. The host (not sure if he's a manager, owner, or just a host) was especially helpful and kind throughout our evening but unfortunately I didn't catch his name. Their SHORT RIB PHO is insanely, almost overwhelmingly, delicious. You get SO much food for $22 and everything about this dish screams "quality". Flavorful broth, generous portion of short rib that falls right off the bone bigger than my face, and the additional bones served in a separate large bowl containing extra meat, cartilage, and a little bone marrow if you're lucky. Last time I was here, short rib was all I ordered and I had a FULL large container to take home. This time, we also ate bahn xeo as an appetizer so I had a full container PLUS half of another to take home! In total, I managed to get 5 servings out of this one dish!! The bahn xeo (Vietnamese crepe) was also delightful and fun to eat. During my fiance's trip to Vietnam, he wrapped a portion of the crepe with rice paper and dipped it into the accompanying sauce that way. The bahn xeo at Pho Today isn't served with rice paper, but it is available upon request! I highly recommend requesting this as it makes this dish way easier and cleaner to eat. We even incorporated some of the plentiful short rib from our pho into our wraps and they made for a very filling starter! Even the Thai iced tea here is great! It's so creamy and rich in flavor. We first visited the other store in Princeton, and heard the have the other one down here in S. Plainfield. The experience was equally pleasant in this location as the other one. Friendly waiters and food is delicious. They have bar seating inside the lounge, sports bar ambiance, but I didn't enter during this visit. Although phò is what the main dish of they sell, the Com Tm Today and the spicy beef red curry were very good as well. So far all we ordered were very satisfying. Dined at this restaurant on a Wednesday evening around 8pm. To my surprise it was pretty busy even for a weeknight. We got seated right away and had a water carafe to pour ourselves water in plastic cups. The server did take a little long to come to the table but he was serving 6 tables at once , so it was understandable. I ordered the B3 and it was delicious!! Definitely will come back to get this meal. The portion sizes were large and I even got to take some home. The only reason I docked a star was because at the time of payment and to ask for to-go boxes we waited over 20 minutes to get someone's attention and our server didn't really come to the table. I come here all the time whenever I'm craving a good bowl of pho or Vietnamese food in general. You can't go wrong with their pho! Their shrimp summer rolls are also amazing and very fresh, served with a wonderful peanut sauce.
