We came here for dinner after work one day. We were immediately seated after we arrived. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant looks like a small diner, with grayish turquoise tables and chairs scattered around. Pictures of the restaurant's food are everywhere as well, with some of them taped to the refrigerator behind the counter and others being depicted on canvases that hang on the white walls. Silk lanterns dangle from the ceiling in different colors and the walls are adorned with cultural items too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the following: Tra Thai, which is Thai Iced Tea- this was pretty good Soda Hot Ga, which is egg yolk with soda - hubs enjoyed it and liked it A2- Goi Cuon, which are spring rolls that are rice paper stuffed with shrimp, egg and noodles. It came with peanut sauce but we opted for fish sauce because of our daughter's peanut allergy. The rice paper wasn't soft and it felt rubbery. It was hard at the edges and made us wonder if it was premade. We wished it was fresher. S21 Bun Rieu, which is crab meat pork in tomato shrimp paste noodle soup. Daughter liked it and wasn't disappointed by it. D4- Mi Xao Dơn Do Biển, which is a combination of seafood and vegetables stir fried in a light sauce and served over crispy noodles. I was a little disappointed with this entree. We expected it to be egg noodles but it wasn't. There was hardly any proteins but mostly vegetable fillers. A9- Banh Xeo, which is coconut and rice flour crepe filled with a savory combination of bean sprouts and shrimp that's served on a bed of lettuce. This was ok but it wasn't as soft. The omelet tasted like it was overdone. I'm not sure if it was because we just came back from our trip to Los Angeles where all the Vietnamese food were top-notch but I felt a little disappointed with this place. As is often the case, now I have a new favorite. Their Grilled Chicken and Pork Banh Mi are delicious and full of flavor. The taste never wavers or changes. The meats are tender and well seasoned. I always just try to remove most if not all the seeds from the jalapeño. It pairs well with the Taro boba drink. It's always good coming to this place knowing they know you as well. Authentic Viet spots are being discovered in NJ and Saigon is a good example. While the grilled pork chop doesn't have the same marinade and flavor as other places, it's still good. At Saigon you'll find a diverse menu of soups and noodles, something the city doesn't have an abundance of. 100% my go to spot in this town. Favorites include the beef or chicken pho, bun reiu, bun bo hue, bo kho, summer rolls and spring rolls. I especially love the bun reiu with the tomato base and pork meatballs and the funkiness of the shrimp paste. Bo kho is legit with the beef tendon, super tender and you can tell it's been braised cus it's soft and melts in your mouth, it can be very sweet though. This gets a 4 and not a 5 only because I have had better Vietnamese food but this place deserves a lot of respect for bringing and preserving much of its culture in a prominently non Asian community. I've never eaten physically there; take out only and the lady is always so sweet. She is always dressed well in traditional Vietnamese outfits and I love it! She is fierce! A MUST TRY!!! My mom used to come here YEARS ago since she used to work in this area however she recently reintroduced Saigon to us maybe a year and a half ago. BEST DECISION EVER!!! The customer service here is always A1, I've sat down here to eat and have gotten takeout plenty of times and the quality of the food is always really good! Let's get to the food shall we :) My go to order consists of getting the spring rolls with peanut sauce or the fresh spring rolls (A3) as an appetizer. For my main dish I nearly always get the Angel hair noodles with chicken (L10), there's always a good amount of chicken with a perfect amount of noodles. My sister always orders the Combo fried rice with shrimp, chicken and beef (L2) and she really likes it due to the amount of meat you get and she is always satisfied with this dish. I've also tried the Seafood noodle soup recently and it's absolutely exceptional when you're looking to have soup! I've been here countless of times and would most certainly recommend this place to those in the area or looking to try Vietnamese food for the first time! This place deserves a 1000/5 rating! I came here with my daughter for dinner and the staff here was super friendly, patient and helpful. Pho: My daughter loved this and she said that it had enough flavor. It was cooked to perfection and she will get this again. Com Bo Luc Lac: This needs a little more flavor to it but the beef cubes were cooked very well. Bun Cha Gio Thit Nuong: This was a very unique dish and the egg rolls had flavor. The rice noodles needed a little more flavor to them. Bi Cuon: The shredded pork tasted a bit dry inside of the rice paper. When you eat it with the peanut sauce it tastes fantastic but seems to be missing some sort of flavor/texture to it. Quick and friendly service. We ordered 4 orders of pho and 2 orders of spring rolls and drinks. S2. Pho - The broth was noticeably sweeter than we were used to. I recommend adding the lime juice they provide to cut down on the sweetness and add a splash of citrus. The beef in the soup was great and noodles were the perfect texture. Overall was good. Just a tad too sweet. A2. Spring rolls - The spring rolls were large and sliced in half. Ingredients inside was fresh. I recommend dipping it in the peanut sauce and try it with some of the chili oil. Thai Tea Bubble Tea - The thai tea was delicious. The sweet and cold drink was a lifesaver while eating the hot pho. The boba inside was not the greatest quality and too chewy. Maybe the boba was over cooked. Iced Coffee with condensed milk - Coffee was good, condensed milk added that creaminess and sweetness. If you haven't tried Vietnamese coffee I highly recommend you try this one. Overall- Service was fast and friendly and food was good. This is my favorite pho spot even though it's a little out of the way. Food and prices are great. The place does look a bit shady from the outside and is located in a small "strip mall" on a road with many industrial shops but it's always my go-to pho shop. If you like the "hole-in-the-wall" type of places like I do, this is a great place to check out! TLDR: My recommendations are A2 (fresh spring rolls w/peanut sauce), A3 (crispy fried rolls), L12 (Super bowl) or S2 (Pho) depending on my mood. Appetizers: A2 (Fresh spring rolls): you get 3 rolls. Each roll contains shrimp, lettuce, rice noodles, pork, and egg wrapped in a rice paper served with a side of peanut sauce. This is fairly simple but tastes amazing with the peanut sauce. A3 (Crispy fried rolls): you get 6 rolls which are about the thickness of a sharpie. The rolls are made in-house (you can watch them make it if you go at the right time) and are the best crispy fried rolls I've had so far. They contain Shrimp, pork, and mixed vegetables which are blended very finely with a side of lettuce leaves and fish sauce. It's always very hard to decide which appetizer to get but you really can't go wrong with either one! Main: S2 (Pho): This is the large version of their S1 which is extra large. It's your typical Pho with roast beef, brisket, tendon, and tripe served with a side of fresh cilantro, Thai basil, and bean sprouts. Their soup doesn't taste as greasy as some of the other spots and has a deep flavor with a subtle sweetness. I usually get the S2 only because the broth goes really well with rice that I get after I eat the noodles! L12 (Super bowl): This is my go-to whenever I go to Saigon. It contains a bowl of rice noodles with crispy fried rolls (the same ones as A3), Grilled pork, grilled shrimp, shredded lettuce, and cucumbers served with a side of fish sauce. The combination of the sweet fish sauce with the fresh lettuce, rice noodles, and meat go so well together. I have tried this at many other places that charge more than what Saigon charges but gives less "toppings" and does not taste nearly as good as Saigon. This is a great option for those hot sticky days where you want pho without the hot soup! read more

I love it--we'd give it a million stars, I've tried all of their appetizers and loved them, I've tried a bunch of soup, their pork chops, their vermicelli dishes, everything so good!! I love the location and the space, I think it's very cute :) Maybeeeee some places have better pho, but to act like its bland is a blatant lie!! Went here for lunch and was horrid to find a live cockroach climbing on the wall. Internally I was freaking out. Called the lady who was in the beginning snotty, over & brought it to her attention. She apologized & killed it & explained it's coming from the pizza place next door, which I do believe her bc the kitchen wasn't anywhere near our location. Plus the establishment's bathroom is clean. Had no feeling of dirtiness until I saw the cockroach. Food here is usually good but I will not be returning. On top of that, after the experience we had she didn't even give us a discount on our meal!?!? Isn't that embarrassing? There were other patrons in the restaurant. After that she was nice all of a sudden. Customer service isn't that great and I regret ever tipping. In a town where there isn't a lot of Vietnamese places around, I really think Saigon deserves a 4 star just for being there and serving pretty authentic cuisine. They deserve some bonus point for being Vietnamese because a lot of Vietnamese restaurants in Manhattan are run by Chinese! I ordered the grilled chicken over rice noodles and my boyfriend tried their BBQ pork over fried rice. This is the first time I ever ordered that dish and honestly I think I still like pho much better. Nonetheless, they gave me a lot of chicken and it really well seasoned. For the rice noodles, they gave me some sweet and sour sauce to pour over the noodles and the combination works surprisingly well. The BBQ pork is even better. It is tender, smoky and just delicious. Besides food, they have a lot of exotic drinks such as durian shake, taro bubble tea, fresh mango shake and other south eastern ice. Next time, I would like to try their banh mih sandwich. read more

This is the viet that started my pho obsession as an undergrad at RU. I would come here a on a cold rainy days to help wards off the cold and/or flu. I went back after the debacle of a Rutgers football game with my Boo Boo. Coming here definitely cheered us up. We ordered the spring rolls and we each got the Pho. I got the extra large and she got the small. I liked that they gave us plenty of cilantro and lettuce with our rolls. I think this place might have changed owners but the flavors is still good enough to come back. I want to try the grilled dishes next time recomended by other yelpers. The first time he ordered me some type of beef pho but I wasn't really a fan so this time I decided to order for myself. We started with the fried spring rolls and they were excellent. My Fiancé had the Special Pho which he really liked. I decided on the Bbq pork and shrimp w/ angel hair noodles. The pork and shrimp were good but even w/ the sauce they provided the noodles still tasted bland.
