We also each had a Jasmine tea, and the Fresh Spring Rolls (not fried) with chicken and shrimp. The seasoning was unique and very tasty, in particular on the veggies and tofu in my wife's diner, my grilled chops, and the chicken in our spring roll. Each was different and delightful. A big plus for us were the vegan dishes for my daughter. We did takeout for her. She ordered the Curry Tofu and Veg Rice, and veggie egg rolls. Very reasonable for the city. I found this place because of the great reviews and wanted to try a good bowl of Pho. Let me tell you right away: get the small size! After ordering, I saw people at the next table asking for takeout containers for their leftover Pho, and now I understand why. I ordered the chicken Pho for $17. The portion was enormous, but honestly, I'd recommend the small one for $12, it's definitely enough. The broth was a bit too salty for me and didn't have that deep, rich flavor I usually expect from Pho. There was a lot of chicken and noodles, though, so it's a hearty bowl. Take out for four from this new find in New Brunswick. Had two of the pho (one beef, one veg) soup with banh mi specials - nicely packaged for take-out. Soup was very good and the sandwiches we ate later - everything very fresh and plentiful. One noodle bowl with grilled pork and egg roll and another with just egg roll. The restaurant sliced up the noodles - which was a different format than other restaurants and filled the bowl with fresh cilantro, shredded lettuce and the proteins. Very nice lunch for four. Such a good to go dinner. On my first cold night, all I wanted was something like soup and why not pho. The broth was flavorful and the quantity provided was adequate for the price paid. Simply, great Vietnamese food in New Brunswick. The restaurant is simple and a popular place for takeout but great to eat in as well. The pork and shrimp spring rolls (A4) are massive and delicious, paired with an excellent peanut sauce. We both ordered bun (noodle bowls) which were MASSIVE and covered in "toppings". LOVE that many come with a little egg roll as a part of the bowls, but the noodle bowl with grilled chicken, shrimp & eggroll (N5) was full of protein and the vinegar fish sauce "dressing" was perfect with the vermicelli rice noodles. I have nuts and sesame allergies and she was aware of the ingredients in dishes enough to tell me if it was safe for me or not and I appreciate that greatly. A charming Vietnamese stop in New Brunswick, they have a variety of dishes to try and something for everyone. We were craving pho on our most recent trip and this shop was just down from Smashville where we had eaten the previous night. The shop was empty aside from one other patron. We were greeted by a hostess/cashier and she told us to sit where ever and took our orders. I got the pho steak and husband got the pho steak/brisket combo and we split an order of pork/shrimp summer rolls. The price is a bit higher than what we usually pay back home but once our food came it was well worth it! The summer rolls had a bbq style pork and were wrapped very tightly so the filling didnt spill out when you bite into them, a common problem I run into. The pho was steaming hot and served in a huge bowl. Once it cooled it was very flavorful and tasty. As we sat we did see a lot of take out orders going out, so much so the kitchen did get a little backed up. If you're trying Vietnamese food for the first time, I wouldn't eat here. I'd recommend Pho Today or Pho Anh Dao because they are Viet owned and have authentic dishes. I wanted to try this place because it was closer and I was craving for Vietnamese food. I ordered on DoorDash Pho Tai and the Beef and Onion Rice Platter (R3) and it came within 20 minutes (that's quick in my opinion). At first glance, I appreciate the takeout containers bc you can pour the soup directly into the takeout bowl and eat from it. Other pho restaurants would require you to have a spare bowl or eat from home. The meat portion in the pho tai is okay for the price (a bit pricy from what I'm used to) and the broth lacks flavor. Im not sure what is it but its not what I'm used to. As for the Beef and Onion Rice Platter, it was dry and didn't have much sauce. I took a bite and didn't want to continue eating it. My all time favorite restaurant and a true New Brunswick gem! I've been coming to Indochine since I was a freshman at Rutgers almost 10 years ago! Since then, I have introduced my sisters, parents, and anyone willing (or not) to try Vietnamese food to Indochine. Glad to report no one has been disappointed yet! The menu is vegetarian friendly and has an entire section devoted to vegetarian options. My go-tos are the vermicelli noodles with tofu and vegetables, vegetable egg rolls, and vegetarian banh mi with seasoned fries. *I may or may not be salivating as I write this out.* The fam is a big fan of the vegetable pho and vegetable spring rolls. The Vietnamese iced coffee, Vietnamese hot coffee, and Thai iced tea are also fantastic. More importantly, over the years and through COVID, the quality of the food has not changed. I enjoy the take out as much as I do dining in. I can't comment on the authenticity of the food, but this was my first experience with Vietnamese food and this is the standard to which I compare all other Vietnamese establishments. The sweet spot in New Brunswick for lunch & dinner! Kicking it off right, the banh mi sandwich is freaking astounding! I went with the Grilled Pork which was just superb, the right amount of crispy bread to the flavorful accouterments. You also gotta go for the pho, a traditional favorite that if you order to-go, the amount of food and broth is ridiculous. The broth game was strong and 1 order turned into a few meals for the evening and even a quick breakfast the next day. Garnishments were placed separately from the broth so I could add as much or as little as I preferred including onions, cilantro, green onions, bean sprouts, jalapeño peppers, lime, and Asian basil. I had ordered P1, the Phở Đặc Biệt, which came with the rare steak, brisket, tendon, and tripe, all of which were excellent. A cute atmosphere with great people & great service, right on George Street, I must have walked by a couple of times before I realized where it was. I feel like it gets a little lost in it's surrounding building fronts. They have plenty of tables inside and I've seen large groups in there at a time so they are very accommodating no matter the party size. Had a chance to try out Indochine and it was an excellent experience. The neatly organized restaurant was clean, roomy, and bright. The menu was not all that different from most Vietnamese restaurants; offering Pho, Bun, and rice dishes along with Bahn Mi's. Not being a big fan of Pho, I chose my favorite dish in the Bun with grilled pork and eggroll ("N2." on Indochine's menu). It was a good choice as it was really delicious! The grilled pork was excellent with a slight char and plenty of distinct herbaceous Vietnamese flavors (think lemongrass, lime, cilantro, etc.). Providing a nice contrast in texture were the eggrolls; super crispy and also containing a delicious flavored minced pork filling inside. The often overlooked bun (rice vermicelli noodles) were cooked perfectly to my liking; tender (yet still having a pleasant chew) which allowed it to absorb the fresh Nuoc Cham (Vietnamese dipping sauce), and also the tableside condiments of Sriracha and hoisin sauce. I ordered a traditional ("S1" on their website) Bahn Mi as a takeaway, as I decided it would be a dinner treat. When I took my first bite; I could tell it was one if the best versions I've eaten. All the traditional ingredients were present with the pate, ham, and fresh cilantro being the most notable. My only negative was I wish the vegetables were a bit more pickled. The baguette was as it should be... crispy and flaky. Indochine was one of the better Vietnamese food experiences I've had in NJ. read more

Indochine was located in a smaller location on Spring Street, but they recently relocated to a larger venue on George Street. There is a good selection of Vegetarian dishes, including Veggie Pho. I ordered the Veggie Spring Rolls and Tofu with a Tomato Sauce (I don't remember the name in Vietnamese) Our food came out super quick! They brought out our entrees while we were still finishing our spring rolls. I really liked the spring rolls, fresh, soft "egg roll skin", and sweet 'n spicy peanut sauce. I've never had tofu with tomato sauce, but it was good. I'll have it for leftover lunch tomorrow. I'm not sure how "authentic" the restaurant is since the owner isn't Vietnamese. I'm a pretty tough Pho critic. One of my favorite Pho places to go to is Nha Trang One in Chinatown NYC. They're a stiff competitor for anyone in the pho business. Indochine is fresh, hot and tasty at all times. I have enjoyed a few appetizers, pork chops over rice and their pho selections. Goui Con Chicken and Shrimp and their Goui Con Pork and Shrimp are really great rolls/starters. Crispy not greasy with pronounced garlic and ginger hints. Their beef pho was on point. Surprisingly. I have high expectations for broth and am often disappointed. No disappointment here though! Their broth was rich and meaty. Ingredients such as onion, hoisin sauce, fresh basil and chili paste elevated this broth to a next level. They weren't skimpy with the meats nor the fresh basil. This is a casual sit down or take out joint. The servers are very attentive and respond quickly to your needs. They're good for Pho and other Vietnamese foods such as Banh mi. Came here for lunch with a group of 6 on a whim just wandering down George Street. Definitely an attractive looking place from the outside and the vibe inside is also very zen. It's small and quaint, but relaxing. I imagine when it gets full, you'll be overhearing a lot of conversations, which isn't a problem for me - but may have been a problem for everyone else when we visited! I initially ordered a salad and the rest of the table ordered Bahn Mi or Pho. All the food looked great, but when the waitress stopped by with the food she let me know they were "out of the salad". A bit of a bummer because I was really looking forward to it and was watching my calories but I went with a Bahn Mi. Why she didn't check in with the kitchen - or perhaps why the kitchen didn't inform her sooner, I don't know. A little awkward as my company wanted to wait until I had a plate but I insisted they eat without me. The waitress apologized and we moved on. Despite that little gaffe, the Bahn Mi I ordered was fantastic and I'm glad I was forced into a change! Food was warm, fresh, and prepared quickly. The price was fair and frankly perfect at under $9. I'm looking forward to returning and skipping the salad and going right into the Bahn Mi or a giant bowl of Pho. Would be 5/5 if we didn't have that little service bump. The turnover on affordable restaurants on George Street is depressing. I visit a couple times a year and it looks starkly different every time I walk downtown. The restaurant interior was remarkable in how tidy and colorful it was, down to the cute (punny) art frames in the corner and clean washrooms.
