I ordered from Noodle Is Calling because the reviews suggested something approaching joy. Two stars, which is to say, I ate it, and then wondered why. The system worked beautifully at first. Their website promised pickup in 20 minutes. I left the The Heldrich Hotel and made the ten minute walk, only to find my order already being bagged. Efficiency like that gives a person hope. Hope, as it turns out, is fragile. Back in the room, I opened the containers immediately. Spicy beef noodles with hand pulled noodles in a beef and pork broth, along with steamed pork soup dumplings that had been spoken of with reverence online. The dumplings were cold. Not warm, not cooling. Cold, like they had been waiting longer than I had. They had fused together into a single tragic mass. When I tried to separate them, the dough tore open and the soup filling spilled out into the container, abandoning its purpose. How this happened during a ten minute walk is a mystery. The more likely answer is that it did not. The noodles were at least hot. The flavor was fine. Not offensive, not memorable, just present. You eat it, and it disappears from your mind almost immediately. This is a place people seem to love, which makes the experience feel like a clerical error in the matrix. Perhaps it was an off night. Came here for a weekday lunch. The place is long and narrow with a few seats. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you when it's ready. Ordered the pork belly baos, pork soup dumplings and beef noodles. The pork belly in the baos was flavorful and tender. The boas themselves were pillowy soft and it came with crushed peanuts. It was a good bao except I felt like it could use some sort of pickled vegetable to cut the richness. The pork soup dumplings were steamy and filled with a good amount of soup. I wish the soup was a little more flavorful but the meat itself was tasty and the skin was nice and thin. The beef noodles were full of flavor and came with tender beef and fresh noodles and veggies. The staff was really nice and attentive. It's a small, cozy shop. Most people got take out while I was eating here. I got the Dried Pork Spicy Noodles. The good news is the sauce is served on the side so you control the spice. There's also some other sauces on the table. I used Soy and Vinegar in addition to the spicy sauce. I came here for lunch with my boyfriend. The food came out very fast --within 10 minutes after we ordered. The waiter was prompt and helpful. The food was very good and worth trying. My favorite is the Sesame Noodles. I wished the dishes that were labeled as spicy were actually spicy. I added the house chili oil but it didn't add much spice to the meal. This place is located on George St. so parking is hard to find. Most of the parking spaces on the side of the street are blocked off for outdoor seating or due to construction. I had a wonderful time at Noodle is Calling! I went with a friend of mine for dinner before a show at the State Theatre. There's 2 tables you could sit at and bar seating if that's not available. You order at the counter, and if you're sitting in they bring your order to you. We ordered the House Bao, Pork Soup Dumplings, Crabmeat Soup Dumplings, and Steamed Pork & Chive Dumplings. They came out in paper plates which I didn't really mind, but because me and my friend were sharing, I had to request extra plates. The Bao was very soft - melted in the mouth. Steamed dumplings also very good - the meat to wrapper ratio was perfect. The soup dumplings were tasty, but the only thing I wish was that our spoon were a little bigger to hold the soup dumplings with haha. Nothing was piping hot which some people might not like but I actually preferred. We were in and out within 45 minutes. I wouldn't recommend this to those looking for like a fancy date night, but if you want some pretty good food for a fair price, definitely check it out! My boyfriend and I were craving soup dumplings and wanted some place close by so we decided to give this place a try! We noticed it opened up recently but hadn't had the chance to come until now. When we first got there, the place looked open but the door was locked so we ended up calling the number listed on Yelp to check. One of the employees answered and was shocked to know the door was locked. He came right away to open the door for us so if that happens to you too, just give them a call! You order up at the counter and then can sit anywhere you want. The place isn't too big so seating is limited! The staff was very kind though and brought the food out to your table after it is done. They only have bottled water/drinks so you have to pay if you want anything (I think you might be able to bring drinks in too, but not too sure)! For food, we ended up sharing the steamed crabmeat soup dumplings, pork house bao, Shanghai spring roll, and spicy dried noodles with beef. We were stuffed by the end of it and even had extra noodles to take home! The crabmeat soup dumplings were really flavorful, but the only sad thing is that when the dumplings came out, some of them were stuck together. So when we tried to pull them apart, they ripped and the broth came out. The Shanghai spring rolls were so crispy and filled with soft veggies on the inside. They give you duck sauce with the spring rolls too. The pork house bao was my favorite item that we got! The meat was so tender and flavorful. They top the meat with some crushed peanuts which really complimented the flavor of the sauce so well! The spicy dried noodles with beef was also really good with the noodles being cooked to just the right consistency! Even though I have a low spice tolerance, it wasn't too spicy for me at all. It's the type of spice that creeps up on you after a couple of bites but still very manageable. Overall, great place on George Street to satisfy any soup dumpling cravings. My tummy is SO HAPPY right now. I wish that I had taken pictures but the urge to just dig in was too strong. I wanted to try a vegan dish as their mock meats sounded interesting. I went for the vegan ham noodles and they were so so delicious. The "ham" didn't have the smokiness that real ham does but I was amazed how close the texture was. The miso broth was creamy and perfectly seasoned and the veggies were still lightly crisp and perfect. The knife cut noodles are good but although I'm pretty adept with chopsticks, those suckers kept slipping. But you could tell that they were the real deal. My friends were also very pleased with their dishes. One was the seafood noodles that were chock full of nice big shrimp and another dish were the duck with stir fried noodles that my friend inhaled. We also split some of the colorful seafood dumplings and while I do agree with a previous reviewer that they were a bit small, they more than made up for the size with the most delectable broth inside. I normally add dumpling sauce once I've sucked out the broth but I didn't want to cover up any of the delicious flavor. I'm 100% going to either go again or have them bring me their nummy food to my apartment. read more

First time I ordered chicken wings with chicken ramen. I requested the chicken well done and it looked great from the outside but some of the pieces were black inside(inedible). The ramen was good but no soy sauce was in the bag. So I tried again and went back the next day and ordered the chicken fried rice and wings. This time I requested soy sauce, he put one cup in the bag and seemed annoyed when I asked him if it was in the bag. I thought maybe I actually offended this young man because I wanted to enjoy my order. When I asked about the soy sauce he went in the back saying something that of course I couldn't understand because I do not speak the language. I noticed a tray with a bunch of cups already ready to go but the cup in my order came from the back(mind you) he went to the bathroom before I received my order(should I be concerned, I don't know). Again the chicken looked good and smelled good but once you pulled a piece off it was black inside. There's absolutely not good to be a third stroke but it's sad. He really made me feel like I violated in some way. I was in the area for a couple of days because I started receiving chemo treatment and had two appointments back to back. 0 stars. This restaurant prior to yesterday did not have any indication on their menu that MANY of their dishes contain peanuts. I ordered multiple dishes from them and when I received them I distinctly smelled peanuts in one of the dishes so I called the restaurant to ask whether or not this dish did in fact have peanuts in it because I have a peanut allergy. They said it did. I then asked if the other food had any peanuts and they said no. I hung up the phone, started eating the other entree only for the restaurant to call me back to tell me that the food I had already eaten (that they told me did NOT have peanuts in it) has peanut butter in it!!!! All I got on the phone when I said that that was a serious issue and they need to address it was an answer of "oh". They of course now have it listed on their menu that these dishes contain peanuts. I would advise anyone who has any sort of food allergy to avoid this restaurant. I got extremely sick from consuming this food because of a careless mistake that is easily avoided.
