Came here on a weeknight for takeout. The good thing about this place is that they have a couple parking spots in front of the restaurant so if you don't feel like looking for parking you can hopefully find an open spot in front. Ordered the sake bowl which is like a poke bowl with salmon, avocado and cucumbers on top of rice. It tasted pretty good but for the price I thought they could've added more salmon. The fat cup wasn't bad. You get to chose a protein, two sides and a topping all on a bed of rice. I chose bulgogi, chicken finger, shrimp tempura and pickled radish. The bulgogi was good. I tried to eat two pieces, and the texture was just so unusually soggy, like that of an imitation crab "pâté" ...Just very soggy/mushy rice/topping -couldn't tell which part it was; and almost unusually sour. Nestled in the middle of a college town so it is always busy, but worth it. They have sushi and loaded fries, but the real star is the fat cup. I have been coming here since I was a freshman at Rutgers University. This place is right off Easton Ave. It is small, but there are dine-in tables available if you want to eat there. The cashiers there are very friendly and accomodating. When I come, I usually order the fat cup with chicken katsu. You can choose the toppings and what you want as the sides. I personally think the food is alright. The fat cup is filling, but the majority of the bowl is rice. Since I get the chicken katsu, they have a sauce they put on top of the chicken which I really like. I do wish they put more of it though because it gives more flavor to the chicken and overall bowl. I have also tried their musubi, but it is definitely not worth the price for spam, rice, and seaweed. Overall, I feel like the food is alright and consistent. I personally don't come here that often anymore because I feel like there are better food around the area for a better price. Overall, there is a lot of food in a fat cup, so if you're looking for quantity, I guess this is your kind of place. 4 Stars: Because of their tasty food, but their shop is now really small. While they do have a few places to sit inside and outside, it's really just a take out counter. Edo's used to be a full fledged restaurant, their previous location is right around the block on Easton Ave. They had a much larger menu that had various Korean and Japanese dishes, along with sushi and then later ramen as well. Now it is a nice take out place, that mainly serves Ramen, sushi rolls and some Korean/Japanese fusion style dishes (Fusion Bowls & Fat Cups). They also have some fusion appetizers as well. One thing that is pretty authentic is the Hwe Dup Bap! It's one of their bowls and described as Korean Style Poke. I used to eat this all the time back in college. It is hands down my favorite thing to order here. It comes with a spicy sauce (Cho Gochujang) on the side, that isn't really spicy to me, but for others who aren't familiar with Korean Red Pepper Paste, it may be, so watch out for that. I'd take a taste first and then pour according to your preference. As with all New Brunswick spots, parking is not easy to come by. Edo's has two parking spots dedicated to itself and if you're lucky one of them may be open. If not, be prepared to scout for a metered parking spot. Staff who works here usually speak Korean but are also fluent in English as well. This place is always hopping so there is always a wait to get our food. We call in beforehand to minimize the wait time. Popular locations all have wait times unfortunately but their popularity is also a testament to their food so can't complain. Enjoy!!! read more

I also ordered the sea food pancake and specified that I would like it super crunchy and they fulfilled this request. I am very picky when it comes to seafood pancake and this place was not only super crunchy but also thick and had a lot of seafood in it. Now the third time I went, I ordered the eel avocado bowl. This was the only thing I ordered from here that disappointed me. There was barely any eel or avocado and the rice in the bowl had way too much rice vinegar in it. First time I ordered food from here. I got delivery. 2 fat bowls. The first one with chicken katsu and shrimp tempura. The chicken in the chicken Carey is the thinnest piece of chicken I have evvvvver seen. Don't get the chicken katsu unless you just want to eat fried batter and that's all. So after hearing a mix of reviews about Edo and it's new location, I finally made it out to try it for myself. As for the new location, I love it. I can see the downsides of a smaller space during the colder months, but for warm weather, the outdoor seating options were great. I love how the owners & staff sit outside amongst their customers, enjoying conversation and laughs. Such a laid back, hip group. They must have seen me accidentally eat a whole clump of wasabi thinking it was avocado because the owner went out of his way to give me a free water! Also, it has to be noted that we were the annoying people who order at 10:45 with the restaurant closing at 11 PM. But no attitude was given, as many other places do. It would be remiss to not mention the extensive menu options Edo offers. I'm always drawn to anything sushi, but this time I decided to venture off from routine and pick the California Bowl. I cannot say how happy I was with my purchase. Fresh ingredients from the avocado to the crab & the rice was absolutely perfect--not too mushy. For those who remember the Edo restaurant days with its half off sushi, Edo Takeout is a fresh twist on the classic sushi restaurant. I tried the Fat Cup, which people keep raving about, and it did not disappoint. For $9, you get a hefty serving of rice, topped with a protein, two sides, and a topping of your choice. The fire stix (fried imitation crab meat) and chicken katsu were delectable, but the shrimp tempura and bulgogi were disappointingly bland. My only other complaint would be that the rice to toppings ratio is off, and you get twice as much rice as you need. I had the sake bowl, there were 3-4 pieces of fish that didn't taste right. I was confused because most of it was fine. My daughter had the bulgogi bowl and that for sure was old maybe even gone bad. It tasted sour and the meat texture was brittle like. My daughter told the cashier and she was nice enough to have it changed for us. Once we got the new one, it was clear that the first one was bad/rotten. The soy glazed wings were really tasty, it had a nice outer crunch and the inside was moist. Love this place! Ordered 2 variants of Fat Cups (with Chicken Katsu/Gyoza and Shirmp Tempura topped with Nori flakes, and Shrmp Teriyaki, Goyza and Fried Egg, and crunchy Shogun Flakes), and a California Bowl (Crab meat and Avocado and Cucumber, topped with spicy mayo). What a delight! My only minor half point taken (but still worths a 5-star rating overall) is that they cannot accommodate low-sodium/low-oil on the Fat Cup. Which begs the existential question -- can it still be called "Fat" cup if they can? :-) The bowls taste a lot like a glorified Beef Bowl by Yoshinoya in the West Coast, but of course much, much better! I especially like the plump and well-cooked sushi rice bed, and the crunchy flakes. Parking is limited (3 spaces up front), but that's more than most -- I don't recall any other restaurants in New Brunswick that actually provide parking spaces for their customer! and that's a big plus. Decor is simple with a shelf filled with anime and marvel and cartoon character dolls, and outside, it's a simple setting with tables under two portable large umbrellas. Now get this -- there are murals on the exterior, one smaller mural showing anime characters from One Piece Pirate, and another covering the large side wall as you walk the ramp from the lot. And by luck, we met the actual artist who painted the murals! His name is Neeff, who's also on instagram @neeffthecreator (also https://www.facebook.com/worksofartbyneeff). Very friendly dude with dreadlocks, chatting about his project and the next (he's going to also paint on the side fence). How often do you meet the artist who created a mural for a restaurant, AT the restaurant? I went home smiling. Love the A+ experience. I'm usually a fan of edo but recently I've noticed that the quality of their fish has gone down with tears and red splotches in some of the salmon. Also, considering health and sanitary concerns, it is a bit questionable to me that no staff (the cashier nor people making the food) wore gloves or masks, or provided any hand sanitizer. read more

As a junior at Rutgers, I've been coming here since my first semester at college. There are so many places on Easton, but this will always be my favorite place to eat. I am extremely loyal to this restaurant and make a point to get takeout at least once a week. FOOD: Since moving to their new location, they also updated their menu. While I'm sad they no longer offer their half-price deals, I feel that their prices are still worth for what you get. I usually get the California Bowl and it fills me up so quickly. However, their crunchy munchy rolls are also to die for. From what my friends get, everyone seems to agree that the portions are large. Overall, the food here pack a lot of flavor. SERVICE: Love the people who work here. They are always so friendly and willing to strike a conversation with you. It is a big reason why I continue to return here. Bento boxes, sushi, ramen & udon and lots of cool bowls. Seating is limited (hence the name) and parking is tricky. But it just works. Definitely worth a visit. I've been to the old Edo a couple times but this was my first time at the new location, which is located a little bit off of Easton Ave on 16 Condict St. I came here last night with a friend and immediately as we entered, we were warmly greeted by the workers and the super friendly cashier handed a menu to us. My friend, who had been here before, recommended that I get the Fat Cup and customize my own for $8.50 (before tax). The Fat Cup: You start by choosing a protein, 2 sides, and then finishing with selecting 1 topping and is all served over white rice. I started with the chicken teriyaki, got the shrimp tempura (1 piece) and vegetable gyoza (2 pieces), and topped it off with Shogun flakes (crunchy flakes). Although my order did take some time to get ready, my food was very fresh and the different components of the cup came together nicely. The chicken teriyaki had the right amount of sweetness, the shrimp tempura was flaky and crispy, and the gyoza was fried to a beautiful golden brown. However, my only wish is that they would serve a little bit less rice and some more of the protein (chicken teriyaki in my case). Other than that, my dinner was absolutely delicious and was just what I needed before staying up to study for an exam. Overall, this place is a casual, quick, and college student budget-friendly place if you are craving Asian Food (especially Korean). The old Edo on Easton closed a few weeks ago, and the new location is finally open! It has moved a tiny ways off Easton to 16 Condict St (turn off Easton at the street perpendicular to Stuff Yer Face, and walk a couple of houses down until you see the Edo sign). The restaurant has undergone a pretty big change, but in a good way. Rather than a traditional sit-down restaurant, Edo is now a takeout joint where you order your food to-go, or eat it at the small tables/benches inside. The interior is modern and bright--a great place to grab something quickly when you're alone or with some friends. The food is cooked in the exposed kitchen right behind the counter so it's safe and clean, and service is fast. During normal hours, you'll get your food 10min. As for the food, Edo kept a lot of the food they had at their old restaurant but also added some new options. You can still order any sushi rolls imaginable, hand rolls, and the classic Japanese and Korean comfort foods--ramen, udon, bibimbap (Korean mixed rice), tofu soup, etc. The ramen is better than before, with quality chewy ramen noodles (not the instant kind) and broth made in store! Edo has also added some new options: California bowl (all of the contents of a california roll in a rice bowl), jjamppong (Korean seafood soup), hwe dupbap (Korean sashimi over rice), ddukbokki (Korean rice cakes), haemul pajeon (Korean seafood pancake), and musubi (spam on rice). The most notable addition to the menu is the "fat cup". Think a fat sandwich...but Asian food, and in a rice bowl form. You get to choose 1 meat (bulgogi, spicy pork, chicken teriyaki, spicy squid, chicken katsu, or shrimp teriyaki) + 2 add ins (shrimp tempura, "fire stix" a.k.a. fried crabmeat, spring rolls, veggie gyoza, spam, chicken finger, bacon, or fried egg) + 1 topping. The bowls are super yummy and come with a good amount of food, but you can add more stuff to it for just $0.50-1. If you want Korean style fried chicken, you can pick up some here too--"soy garlic" or "glazed spicy flavor". The "fi-yah chicken bowl" is super spicy and comes topped with melted mozzarella cheese, a trendy new dish that's popular in Korea right now. All of the food comes in pretty sizable quantities and is affordable, even for a college student. The fat cup is only $8.50 and most of the bowls are under $10. Sushi is no longer 1/2 off weekday evenings like before, but the normal prices are reasonable anyway. I definitely recommend swinging by Edo's new joint! Although I am a tad bit sad that there's no more happy hour/half off everything at this place (I'm going to miss that inexpensive sushi and ramen!), I'm glad to know that they aren't gone entirely! This is now located about a minute away from the former location and specializes in takeout foods (mostly Korean-esque)! You can get a "fat cup" for ~$8 with your choice of meat, sides and topping, or opt for one of the combinations they have. They also have chicken wings (soy garlic or spicy). The ramen tasted fine, but there was nothing in it. Each ramen has ONE SMALL piece of pork belly, ONE piece of imitation crab meat, and HALF of an egg. Then they just filled it up with ramen noodles.
