Small shop with delicious ramen. A bit pricey but personally think it's totally worth it. Would recommend.

This review is for their OYSTER ramen. It is amazing! Also, I've never even seen oyster ramen on the menu at other ramen spots in jersey. The oysters are fresh and really add to the flavor of the broth. I literally crave it at least once every few months or so. Always pretty empty during lunch time on weekdays. Ramen doesn't come with the egg, you have to pay extra for it though. The actual noodles are excellent too. read more

Shokudo - Oyster ramen!! - Ramen Near Me - Piscataway Township, New Jersey

This is pretty simple, minimalist, no frills kind of place. What we ordered: - Chicken Karaage - Japanese deep fried chicken w/ garlic soy sauce - Agedashi Tofu - deep fried tofu in yuzu fashion with Katsuobyshi, scallions, and Japanese mayo - Tonkotsu Ramen - Shoyu Ramen The service was fine. The woman helping us was sweet but couldn't really explain the dishes well but was helpful if we wanted to make adjustments. We did not know what the tofu dish was and asked for some clarification but was just told it was fried tofu and that it was good. We didn't know what was really on it but we ordered it anyways. We didn't enjoy it but were happy we tried it. I thought my ramen was fine, not my favorite but no complaints. My friend didn't like her ramen so she asked for hot sauce, sriracha, and soy sauce to spice it up and the server was confused at first but was fine bringing it over once we clarified what we wanted. We also didn't love the karaage chicken. All in all, we enjoyed our visit there and appreciated trying something new. They give cute little cat shaped chopstick holders. We will not likely be back because it wasn't to our liking but think it is just personal taste not that the place was bad so we do recommend trying it for yourself. A lot of other people were there and seem to all enjoy their meals and said they come there often. read more

Tonkotsu ramen added Spice. 5* Chicken karaage and pork gyoza for the kids was a hit. 5* Oyster ramen per my wife was great. 5* Agedashi tofu wasn't as good as I remember. 2.5* Awesome music . 10* Anime on for the kids was also good. read more

We were down at Rutgers and the Boy wanted a late lunch, but of course had no idea what he wanted...so I chose Shokudo. Having never been there before we kind of played it safe. We started with edamame and some steamed shumai. For our entrees Wifey and the boy each had rice bowls (one chicken one pork) and I had the Shoyu Ramen with chicken. The food here was very tasty and the servers were friendly and helpful. If I lived closer I'd definitely go here frequently... read more

Came here for spicy miso ramen since I was craving ramen all day. I had chicken karaage and spicy miso ramen. My friend got Kontonsu Ramen. Both tasted amazing. Loved the subtle decoration of the place with anime posters and kitty chopsticks holders. The server girl was very hospitable and friendly. I'd definitely come here again if I ever crave ramen again. read more

Small restaurant in a strip mall w a Walmart. 15 or so tables, lots of decorations involving anime characters and show. Menu limited to apps, ramen, udon and donburi rice bowls. We had a chicken kaarza app which had like 5 pieces of chicken, fresh fried and very hot with a sweet dipping sauce. We ordered a ramen and an udon noodle bowl. Came out nuclear on a tray with soup spoon, napkin and spicy condiments. Nice flavor, lots of noodles, seaweed flakes, sliced fish cakes. Nice, hot and filling. We ordered a chicken donburi bowl for takeout for my son. It was good according to his testimony. Place is nice, one server and one chef, So on a busy day it may take awhile, but otherwise place is nice. A more extensive menu would be nice. read more

Shokudo sits in a little strip between a Rita's and a UPS Store. A cutely decorated resturant with a sweet older lady to greet you. But the issue I have lies with the food, which is the most important element of any resturant. My fiancee ordered a Tonkotsu Ramen while I ordered the Chicken Donburi. My rice bowl was flavorless, I needed to add siracha to finish half of it, the other half I left. As for the ramen, the broth was creamy but not rich with flavor as you would expect which was highly disappointing. The food lacked flavor and substance. We will definitely not be coming back. While it's sad to make this type of review, I hope the business will take this as constructive criticism. read more

I enjoyed my meal at Shokudo. The vegetable miso ramen was flavorful and came in a large bowl. My only request next time would be for more toppings, the pieces of tofu were very thinly sliced and I would have liked to have some more. My friend got the tonkotsu ramen and enjoyed her meal as well. The service was fast and friendly. The interior had plenty of seating. read more

My Fiancée took me here because she figured ramen would cheer me up! I am glad she did because the ramen was amazing. The service was great, the lady there was extremely patient and kind. I decided to have the miso ramen with the spicy paste on the side. The ramen was straight noddles (which I love) and the broth was silky smooth. My fiancée had the spicy pork bowl which she loved. We will definitely try this place again! read more

I came by Shokudo to grab dinner with a couple friends! I love the general aesthetics of the restaurant from their wall art to the cat chopsticks holders!! I've been here before and have tried their ramen dishes which I've enjoyed. I was craving some udon this time so I got the shrimp tempura nabe udon while my friend ordered the chicken donburi. I liked the flavors of my udon and how crispy the shrimp tempura was even after sitting in the soup for a while. However, it didn't really feel like anything too special. My friend was super impressed with the donburi and really enjoyed it. read more

Shokudo - Kimchi w/ (Tonkotsu Ramen) - Ramen Near Me - Piscataway Township, New Jersey

We're looking for a ramen place in Piscataway, NJ and our son told us to try Shokudo. My wife phoned them and asked if they're open for dine-in, they are. We went there during lunch and wow they're not busy. Just the four of us arrived for lunch. We ordered Edemame, tofu rice bowl, Vegie Ramen and Shrimp Tempura Nabe Udon. Our order came in fast and presented well. Ingredients are fresh and both our appetizer and entrees are delicious. Their serving staff is polite, respectful and kind. The place is very clean, well lighted and have nice decor. read more

This is a good ramen spot. Pretty quiet when I entered early Fri evening. The walls have anime posters and they play kpop and jpop. The waitress was attentive and friendly. Got a tonkatsu ramen, which had a fairly light broth. Interestingly I believe they used Chinese cabbage in the broth, which added a nice crunch. Noodles were wavy and firm, which I liked. Got soft boiled egg as an add on, which was also good but not great. I wish the broth was a bit heavier flavor wise and chashu pork was decent but kinda thin. Got a hot green tea as well, which used a yamamotoyama tea bag; pretty good for $2. Overall, I'd recommend checking this place out, especially if you prefer a lighter ramen read more

I went for the takeout miso ramen. It was packaged so that the noodles, meat and veggies were separate from the broth. The broth was tasty and the vegetables were fresh. Compared to other ramen I had it was okay, there was less pork in this ramen than I have had from other restaurants. This restaurant charges an extra $1.75 for the soft boiled egg which is a bit pricey. Other restaurants that serve ramen often include the egg but up-charge for an extra egg. read more

I came here with some friends since this restaurant is near Rutgers. The restaurant is very clean and has it's cute aesthetics that remind me of home. One of the walls have a television that plays Naruto is the background which I thought was pretty interesting. The waitresses and staff members were all very welcoming and friendly. I ordered a Miso ramen when I went. Even though it was one of the simpler dishes, it took around 20-30 minutes to come out. All my friends already got their ramen and we're half finished, but I did not receive mine yet. A waitress came and apologized saying that they are making the ramen now and it will come out shortly. They didn't realize my dish was still missing. They were very apologetic, and gave a choice of a free side dish on the house. The ramen itself was alright, I definitely had better miso ramens elsewhere. Although the ramen doesn't look like a lot in the photo, the bowl was pretty steep. It was a lot, and I thought it was pretty worth it for the price. Overall, I like the vibes to this restaurant and I like how they noticed my ramen was missing and was very accommodating. I will definitely recommend this place and will come back in the future. read more

On a cold and rainy evening I found myself in the mood for Ramen. This place was nearby and has great reviews so I gave it a try. The ramen menu is short and sweet; nothing over-the-top or exciting. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. It came to me and looked delish. The broth was silky and divine. When the woman came over to ask me how it was, I told her the broth was delicious and she smiled. She said it's a 3-day process to make it. She was clearly very proud of her homemade broth. And she should be. Amazing. The noodles were fresh, the charsui was tender - it was a perfectly balanced bowl of ramen. I would definitely come again! read more

What a great Ramen spot. A total hidden gem in my book. I love that they have a super focused menu, not overwhelming to choose. The Tonkotsu was perfect - if I were to critique, would have hoped for thicker cuts of cha su pork, and that the soya egg was included - like most other Ramen spots in the area. The Karegare chicken was spot on, crisp, and flavorful - a great app. Definitely would be coming here again to try thier other menu items. read more

4 stars for tonkatsu ramen I ordered regular amount of ramen. The egg is optional for additional fee (i skipped it) Bone broth : very tasty, traditional and authentic umami flavor. I love ramen with good broth and not too salty and this one passed the taste test. The 2 pork belly pieces are thinly sliced and vert tender. I don't think they use MSG in the broth because I didn't feel very thirsty post meal. The noodle is al dente , just the way I like it. Free parking 5% discount if you pay in cash read more

This is the place to go for a restaurant with great tasting food, great decor, excellent customer service, great value and very good food. The gyoza was nicely steamed and pan fried, chicken karaage was dark meat that was nicely fried and good flavor (not seasoned as much as I prefer but good), the spicy ramen used thin noodles and were good, and the pork bowl was excellent with a very nice sauce with a hint of garlic and I think ginger. The pork bowl was a solid 5 and the other dishes were solid 4's. Definitely an overall nice experience. read more

What an adorable restaurant! The walls are decorated with classic Japanese anime/movie posters, and the restaurant as a whole has a very inviting and relaxed vibe to it. I tried the oyster ramen, which had a creamy and flavorful pork broth and included delicious little raw oysters in it to give it an even richer flavor. I also shared the karaage, agedashi tofu, and small chicken donburi with a few others, and we enjoyed them all! We particularly liked the agedashi tofu, which came with six fried tofu cubes in a light yuzu dashi broth all topped with bonito and seaweed. Also, the chicken donburi is definitely worth sizing up as an entree option - the small made for a good side to share, but I would happily eat a larger portion as a meal next time. Very affordable and tasty meal overall. Looking forward to trying other dishes here! read more

Stopped in for dinner last night for the first time since the restaurant changed over to Shokudo, unfortunately they still have the old sign from Soyokaze our front. Hopefully that doesn't confuse many people. We were immediately seated as they weren't very busy. For apps we started with some fried Gyoza $4 and Shumai $5 and also the Agedashi Tofu $5 The Pork Gyoza was my favorite 5 Fried dumplings served with a sweet and sour soy dipping sauce. The Shumai was good as well 6 pieces with a house made soy sauce. The Tofu I didn't personally try as I'm not a fan but my fiancé loved it and it did look delicious... 6 deep fried tofu pieces in Yuzu dashi with Katsuobushi, scallions, and Japanese mayo. We both had Ramen I had their special Tonkotsu Ramen $10.95 It had a rich and creamy pork broth that was very flavorful (I just added salt) The Pork was also very tasty and it had a nice amount of noodles. I think it was a good portion size. I would definitely order this again. My fiancé had the spicy Miso ramen $11.95 he said it was very good with the right amount of spice. He said he just missed the soft boiled egg that ramen normally comes with. I told him I saw it on the menu as an add on but he must have missed it. Either way he was very happy with his dinner. Plus I loved the cute little cat chopstick holders they used... I was tempted to take them home... ;) Definitely recommend... read more

My best-friend and I came here to try out this new restaurant. The staff is friendly and nice; they do not rush you to order your food. Edamame: It needs some work because it was too mushy and not enough salt. Spicy pork bun: Has enough flavor and just the right taste. Seaweed salad: tastes good just like any where else that has seaweed salad. Pork donburi rice: Pork is cooked right and delicious when mixed together. Tonkotsu ramen: Has just the right flavor and delicious in every way. The creamy broth gives it a kick and drank all of the soup base. Shoyu Ramen: This was very delicious to me and has just the right flavor as well. It definitely has the soy sauce taste in the soup base. Overall: This place was actually better than I had expected when my friend told me about it. I would probably come back again to try out the other ramen flavors. read more

Very good ramen! Got the spicy miso - would say it probably is better without the hot chili oil - I'd order the regular miso next time so I can taste it for real. Tiny unassuming ramen and udon place from the outside, went in looking for a snack. Ordered a small pork rice bowl, and was told it would take 15min. I wasn't allowed to wait indoors, but the staff was nice enough to come out and find me in my car to let me know it was ready. Pork was savory, grilled with the a solid touch of char, and was simply garnished with sesame seeds and nori over rice. Pretty tasty, and definitely warrants a future visit for ramen sometime (when it's not 95 degrees out). Sorry picture was half eaten... it was much prettier (even in takeout form) before I dived in. read more

When looking for Japanese on a random Friday, we were glad to find Shokudo on Yelp with some availability. They have all the right anime adorned on their walls, which is always a good sign. We came here on a Friday it was quite empty and it looked like a traditional Japanese ramen restaurant but the soup that came out was nothing close to. A bit hard to find because the sign on the top of the restaurant is not Shokudo. We ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen with extra noodles, as well as the pork with rice and the fried chicken. Everything was delicious. Starting with the ramen - the serving size is small, but you can get it with the extra noodles (~$3 more), and other additions. The 24 hour broth was the best we have had. The pork was flavorful (it came with only 2 small slices...it would have been nice to have more. Ramen was perfectly done. They make up for the quantity with quality. The fried chicken is pieces of dark meat, nice flavor and comes with a dipping sauce. The rice bowl was also delicious. Prices were fair, but the portion sizes were a bit small. However, one of the best ramen we have had, so that more than offsets it. read more

A great place to go to for good ramen for a decent price! Came here for dinner one night with a small group of friends and it was such a nice time with the quiet ambiance, the great decor and the excellent service. There is a good amount of seating and did not have to wait long at all to be seated. They have a solid selection of different ramen broths and some additional toppings (for extra charge). I've tried their Kimchi Ramen, Spicy Miso Ramen, and Spicy Pork Donburi. Definitely one of the best ramen places near here. I highly recommend all three of these dishes if you are good with spicy foods. If not, it's okay because my friends seemed to have liked their other ramens! Keep in mind that egg costs extra at this place. They will always ask you after you order your ramen, and the egg will cost extra $1. The service is always good, and the place is really clean. Not bad, the rice plate egg is soft but flavorless mainly texture, the chili on top is a nice spice but not too much, and the vegetables on top were a nice touch, chicken is nice and soft a little flavorless. The only issue is that there was too much rice. Pork buns were soft, nice amount of veggies, just a little bit too spicy leaves a burn. Pork is nice and soft fresh made. Overall Rice plate = good but just too dry needs a sweet sauce to it or any sauce and too much rice Pork buns = super soft and flavorful just a little too much spice read more

I'm gonna start by saying if you remember ramen noodle ( a ramen shop over by Middlesex county college that closed down earlier this year) you're going to get very familiar videos from this place, but way better. The menu is easy to understand so you can't stay looking forever at what you want to eat and the food itself didn't take long at all to be made and delivered. Anika( sorry it I spelled it wrong) made the experience so enjoyable and recommended me the chicken karaage and tonkatsku ramen and it was delectable and perfectly prepared. The ramen doesn't come with egg but it's 1$ extra and it's well worth it. The spicy sauce you order on the side is top notch nose-hair burning goodness and the sauce for the karaage chicken makes you want to keep eating more and more. I think I've found my permanent ramen spot again and thank god it's so close to home this time around. Side note they're playing anime or other things in the background on the tv so you can also enjoy that haha. read more

This was me and my family's 1st time here . They are located in a small strip mall in Pway close to Walmart. It's a cute little spot with nice decor. It's not all that big ,but average to most Ramen spots I've been to. Now I have had many and I mean many bowls of Ramen and although they serve a decent bowl it I wasn't all that impressed with the bowls. Tonkatsu bowl wasn't that flavorful and the pork wasn't that "fall apart piece of meat" like it should be. The shio Ramen was ok but also lacked that salty flavor and the pork also was a issue. The Spicy Ramen was good and had a fair amount of heat . The oyster Ramen was pretty good with a fairly flavorful broth with some raw oysters on top. All in all it was fairly good place and a good addition to the area considering Pway doesn't have too many noodle spot. read more
