I wish I had something positive to say about my experience here, however it was unsatisfactory. I asked for recommendations and was quickly told "everything here is good." It wasn't My family ordered the chicken cutlet ramen, teriyaki chicken bento box (came with chicken, rice, gyoza, california roll and edamame) and a few other things that I can't remember. I am typically not a picky eater, but I couldn't finish my food... the chicken was dry and had a foul taste as well as the california roll. The gyoza was tasteless and needed soy sauce for flavor. The ramen was okay, but $80 for food that I didn't enjoy at all... I left disappointed and hungry. I'm hoping that this was just my experience, but an empty restaurant at peak lunchtime is not a good sign. read more

If you go anywhere else, you are paying too much and not getting your moneys worth. The sushi is made well and tastes great, all for $4-6 per roll. You literally cannot beat that price. I typically order: Mainly tofu terriyaki, or their chicken terriyaki on rice and these come with miso soup Avocado sushi roll Sweet potato roll Vegetable ramen no egg The staff is super accommodating. As a family we request a lot of customizations i.e extra teriyaki, extra ginger, low sodium soy sauce, etc. and they always kindly meet the request. Tofu terriyaki is like a little crispy tofu, and with extra terriyaki it really soaks up the flavor with the grilled onions. The chicken version its like well cooked tiny pieces. Stopped by for the first time on a Saturday night for dinner around 8:00 and we able to immediately seat ourselves at a table. We were given some menus to look over and ordered some hot tea to drink. This is a small place with a handful of tables but it's a cute setup with the sushi prep station in the back. We ordered many things to sample since everything was so reasonably priced. For starters we had some spring rolls, pork buns, and three sushi rolls... Also a miso soup came with my entree. I really enjoyed the sushi rolls... I ordered a chicken teriyaki, shrimp tempura, and California roll... All of them were really good... I especially enjoyed the shrimp tempura and they were a bargain at around $3.00 or $3 and change each. I was told the spring rolls and pork bun were delicious as well. For the entrees we had the Taiwanese beef noodle stew and the chicken teriyaki. The stew was very flavorful and the chicken teriyaki was good as well served over white rice. Very low key place but very clean and friendly. We had a sample of many items on the menu and were very happy with the overall food. Highly recommend taking advantage of their Sushi specials where some rolls are 50% off. We had some traditional and Maki rolls. My go to is the Volcano Roll. Appetizers we tried the Noodles w Black Bean Sauce which were a little overdone for my liking and needed the help of some soy but fairly priced. The Salt and Pepper Chicken is the clear winner here if you're not looking for exotic appetizers. The Ramens have many soup bases and today I went with the Tom Yam Beef and because I like hell fire spicy I asked for Hot Oil and Siracha and dashed a bit of Soy into the mix. The broth before the additions was middle of the road but still had more flavor than others I've had. This was the second time here and first review to test consistency and they have been very consistent in their food service and quality. Why not 4 stars? Only because a Ramen needs to stand out with a flavorful broth that shouldn't need to many additions. We stopped by here since it was in the same shopping plaza as mini golf and that's where we were going later. The place is small but cozy! We were seated immediately and the servers brought out menu and were pretty attentive all night. This was my first time trying ramen and it was pretty good here! I think the difference was that it was made in a curry base and the flavors and smells were very aromatic! The portions here are also huge! I was not able to finish even half the bowl and ended up taking the rest home! The chicken one had a lot of favor and i would highly recommend it. My favorite part was that you can add on a sushi or bao bun for just $3/$4 on to a ramen order! the sushi wasn't amazing though, so i would say you can skip it (the chicken teriyaki was not fried like in other places so the chicken was bland and the fried calamari roll was too oily) and chicken bao bun was also not amazing. They put dark eggs into the soup which is not something I generally enjoy, my fault for not asking. The shrimp were normal boiled shrimp, the crab meat was the artificial kind and didn't taste like anything special. The noodles was cooked correctly, the broth wasn't as flavorful as it could have been. I will be going back to update and provide a better review. A Xerox poster on the wall advertised about the $1 Rice Noodle Soup weekend special and we didn't regret trying it. Also tried a 6 piece Avocado Roll for $1.99 just to see if anything is compromised for the cheap ticket price, and we weren't disappointed. The $3.95 Pork Belly Bao (a.k.a. Taiwanese Burger) was the best price we've ever seen outside of Taipei. While it was of good size and taste, the buns were soggy (due to improper steaming) for all three that we ordered. So that was a bit of a bummer. The Beef Noodle soup was a disappointment. Not much favor and the beef chunks were few and far in between. On the other hand, their $7.95 Sukiyaki Beef Ramen was the *BEST* ramen noodle soup we've ever had, even surpassing our experiences in NYC and Tokyo. The big portion of ramen was served in a giant stainless bowl, garnished with a variety of ingredients (beef slices, mung bean sprouts, fish cake, simulate crab leg, soy sauce egg, etc). I usually get the ramen here, even though the waiters (one in particular) regularly recommend against it, saying "We don't really specialize in ramen." THEIR RAMEN IS FINE. Maybe it's not the best in the world, but really, that's okay. And it's better than that ramen place on 3rd Avenue back where I used to live on the Upper East Side that actually called itself a ramen shop. Anyway chalk it up to modest Taiwanese culture. I do the same thing when talking about myself or considering myself for things. They serve Taiwanese food, which I should probably learn more about since I'm Taiwanese. I think the oyster intestine noodles were good. And familiar to me, somehow. Too bad they gave it such a literal name, which I think can be off-putting. They should've kept it in Chinese. Like "foie gras" instead of goose liver. Anyway... it's not the type of dish that you eat by yourself- you would want to split it with some people. I've had the oyster pancake by myself, and that's pretty good. But ideally you would also split that with someone. This is an interesting sushi bar/noodle joint. Oddly, I have not eaten noodles here any of the times I have visited, so I will only comment on their sushi and Taiwanese street food dishes. I am a sucker for chirashi and was really happy the first time I ordered it at Noodles Plus. I got it to-go and they were EXTREMELY generous with the portions. The octopus, tuna, and yellowtail in particular were great and they topped off the dish with roe, avocado, seaweed salad (a fav of mine), and grated radish. Non-traditional, but very tasty and pleasant. All the cuts of sashimi were fresh and well-prepared. The second time I ordered was in-house and the dish was very different to say the least. While I understand the sashimi may vary depending on what is available, putting in a lump of spicy mayo-laden tuna is just not appetizing to me. The Taiwanese dish of minced pork over rice is very authentic and well-priced. The portions are decent and flavored well, complete with tea egg and radish. My SO is from Taiwan and he loves their food. Authenticity is always a win in my book. The servers are also very nice and polite and serve things fairly quickly. Pretty solid Taiwanese joint serving a mix of TW street foods, sushi, and different kinds of ramen. It's a small place next to ShopRite--look for a white sign with red lettering. My group and I were one of only two tables during our 1.5 hour lunch here. Pork Belly Bao ($2.95): Solid gua bao. The pork was tender, flavorful, and still a bit juicy when it was served. There were plenty of crushed peanuts that pretty much overpowered the pickled mustard greens, but it's still good. I could hardly taste the sauce, though, since there was only half a spoonful spread on the bao--which was a bit on the dry side, by the way. Salt and Pepper Fried Chicken ($4.95): I definitely enjoyed these. I've had S&P chicken from other Taiwanese restaurants in Edison, but they tend to be a little too salty at times. The chicken here is fried to order, juicy, crispy, crunchy, and relatively light on the saltiness. Each bowl has maybe five to seven pieces depending on the size of each piece. Taiwanese Slice Pork Over Rice w/ Assorted Vegetables and Soy Egg ($7.95): Unfortunately, the sliced pork was pretty disappointing; I should have picked the chicken or tofu. Portions wise, you will be pretty full--generous serving of rice, pickled bamboo shoots, and braised tofu slices; it also came with a soy egg. The sliced pork, however, was borderline bland/almost flavorless. It is just slices of boiled pork with barely any sauce. In fact, I think all of the sauce was added to the rice. The vegetables were tasty, as was the soy egg, but the pork--the star of the dish--was a turnoff. We also ordered the following: Minced Pork w/ Pork Belly Over Rice ($4.95) Beef Sukiyaki Over Rice w/ Miso ($7.95) California Roll ($3) Blue Ocean Special Sushi Roll ($12) The sushi were made well and tasted as I expected--standard but still good. I went Sunday 8pm 3 weeks ago & ordered off only the Taiwanese small/street food menu: fried tofu squares, fried oyster pancake, fresh bamboo shoots in vinegar, green vegetables (translation eludes me) in garlic & 1 other item (forgot). This Taiwanese menu is a real delight as central NJ offers really no such menu closer than Flushing, Queens. All 3 were delicious with special mentions to the cake's sauce (the key ingredient) & the tofu's freshness. The lady chef was nice enough to come out to greet us. If you want fast, easy, and fresh tasting sushi, then this is the place for you! This seems to be a rteam of women running the place, with the head woman running a tight ship. She seats you quick, or if it's take out, she gets you in and out with everything you need - I like that! The cooks and the leader seem to have good communication, and all flows properly. The sushi is all 50% off, really great prices, the rolls are not big, but also not too small and skimpy, they're just right. The best part is how tasty it is due to the balance of the ingredients --- the rice is warm, not hot, and the fish they use tastes fresh, the seaweed is not too chewy or tough, it's perfect. Overall, their sushi product is a well balanced tasty meal. I've been here twice and they do not disappoint - ordered 4 rolls (6 pieces each) for like $16... Do you know that Whole Foods or Wegmans on average charges you about $13.99 for a 6 piece sushi, almost similar in price for a third of the amount, and for cold rolls that have been lying around since the morning.... It's a Soso place. Advantage: next to shoprite. So when you come for your grocery shopping you can consider eating here but I wouldn't come just for it. Disadvantage: mediocre food. I tried both the signature Japanese (house special kimchi pork ramen) and Taiwanese (braised pork over rice) dishes and one my favorite Taiwanese appetizer/snack shrimp pancake and they were all mediocre and kinda disappointing. And dish presentation aesthetics is lacking....I took the pics without any rearrangement to illustrate the need of more work on presentations of their food. Ramen dishes here are ok, but not much more than that. Ordered the Goyza, asked for it fried, assuming that it would be pan fried, like every other place. It came out deep fried, and without any flavor. Ordered the fried squid balls and they ended up just being like fish cakes. The only thing that I recommend is the Pork Belly Bao, which tasted fantastic even though the pork belly didn't have the proper texture, the combination of flavors was awesome. Wish I just ordered a few of those instead of the Pork Ramen. Staff was friendly and attentive though.
