Dining area for the restaurant
P E.

We stopped here for some Thai food as we were in the area and saw the 4.8 rating. While there were some high points, generally we were disappointed compared to other Thai places we have dined at. We stopped in for lunch. The small complementary salad was not worth the effort and was pretty unappealing. The spice fish cake appetizers were a bit spongy in texture but delicious in flavor with its accompanying sauce. The star was the papaya salad. Very fresh and refreshing and I would order this and the fish cakes again. The pad Thai with tofu and vegetables was a bit too sweet and came out super hot. The massaman chicken was somewhat bland. Thai ice coffee was large. We ordered one for everyone at the table and they all came out with different shade of brown Decor is tired Chinese restaurant furniture and booths with Thai decorations. The front entrance leads you to an ice cream counter. The hall winds around back to the restaurant. Off street parking is limited to three spots in the back. Street parking is available across the street. This place is NOT handicapped accessible. There is no ramp at the front OR rear even though there would be room In front for an indoor ramp. Restrooms are also NOT handicapped accessible. Don't know how Sayreville thinks this is OK.

Pad See Ew

The pad see ew here is very good and delivery is speedy. I obviously can't speak to service or ambiance since I ordered delivery, but I would definitely order from here again. It was a bit on the pricier side but the servings were very generous and everyone had leftovers.

Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles)

We ordered takeout and our food got to us pretty quickly and everything was still piping hot. We got Spring Rolls, two of us had the Pad Kee Mao with Beef and one of ordered the Pad See Ew. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The Spring Rolls were crunchy and the filling was delicious. The Pad Kee Mao had the perfect amount of spice and a good proportion of beef. I get the Pad Kee Mao almost every time I get Thai food and this was definitely one of the best I've had. Would definitely recommend!

Pad Prik Khing

We eat quite a bit of Thai, but this has been our very favorite to date! We came for lunch and ordered two appetizers and four lunch specials to share between just the two of us because we wanted to sample the different dishes. We ordered the spring rolls and Tom Yum soup, the barbequed special, Pad Kee Mao, Chicken with cashews and Pad Prik Khing. Every dish was better than the next! The flavors were so intense, yet perfect! The wait staff were truly personable and accommodating too. The place was comfortable and clean. The decor wasn't anything special, but I have no problem with that because the food and service is what matters. I'm drooling just thinking about it. ready to go back NOW!!!

Chicken Satay and Moo Ping
Lawrence D.

My wife and I ordered take-out this past Saturday evening from Truly Thai. The front of the building faces Main Street and appears under construction. The main entrance is on the side street, up a few steps and you are inside. The counter and this room is neat and clean with about a dozen tables. There was a party of six obviously enjoying their meal. The staff is friendly and courteous. They said 20 minutes to be ready and it was a little less than that. Returning home we had our appetizers, Chicken Satay and Moo Ping (pork BBQ). The peanut sauce with the Chicken Satay was fabulous while the Moo Ping had a delicious sweet and sour sauce. For our entrees, my wife had Pad Gra Tiem, her choice of protein was crispy duck and she said it was so good. The garlic sauce matched perfectly. I had Pad Gra Prow, my choice of protein was chicken. The Thai Basil sauce was fragrant and delicious. Each dish came with Jasmine rice. Sayreville and the surrounding areas have been bereft of good Thai food. Truly Thai is a breath of fresh and delicious air. We will be returning. One note, I only took photos of the appetizers. Those were so good that we both dug into our entrees with delight and I forgot to take photos.

Ice cream

Truly amazing food! We had the calamari, the green curry, chicken satay, mixed seafood pad kee mao and Thai Ice Tea. Everything was fresh and hot. The atmosphere is great. The owner was very friendly and knowledgeable and gave us some great recommendations. We had food left over and ordered dessert to go. We also picked up ice cream from the parlor in the front. We ordered scoops of caramel apple pie, pumpkin and chocolate pretzel.. which we rich and decadent. We're planning a trip back soon.

Fried Iced cream (Left), Fried Banana Rolls (Right), Mango and Sticky Rice (Bottom)

First of all, entrance for the restaurant is on the side street and not on Main. Stopped in over the weekend to dine in. They have a very small parking lot on the side street. 3 cars if you're lucky. Believe they opened less than 2 months ago. It's a pretty small dining area inside with only about 10 or 12 tables total including booths. We shared 3 apps... Spring rolls, edamame & Thai dumplings. Entrees were... Pad Thai,Pad cashew (spicy), and Thai bbq with pork. You will have leftovers on these if you're coming for dinner. Save room for dessert. We shared 3. They were, fried banana rolls with ice cream (our favorite), mango & sticky rice, and fried ice cream. Those banana rolls were served warm with vanilla ice cream. That was sinfully good and not too sweet. Just wish that there were more than 4 small ones. :) Service was excellent. We met one of the owners at the end when settling up our bill. He showed the 3 of us the front part of this property. Which is going to be serving bubble tea and ice cream in a few months. Prices are very reasonable here. And yes, welcome to Sayreville.

This spot was super busy, and while service was on the slower side, our server was super friendly and had plenty of recommendations. We thought the apps here far outdid their noodle dishes! 4.5/5 Fried Dumplings -- these were so good! The dumpling skin was super crisp, filling was juicy and flavorful! 4.5/5 Shengjianbao -- super fluffy with a crisp bottom, filling was great too, could have been more generous. 3/5 Original Crossing Bridge Noodle Soup -- the pork broth here was done better than their chicken broth, and the variety of toppings was nice. 2.5/5 Chicken Rice Noodle Soup -- I order this quite regularly at many other "crossing bridge noodle" spots but unfortunately cannot recommend this here. The broth had this unpalatable flavor and poultry odor. The chicken meat was also very dry.

I highly recommend the hot and spicy Szechuan broth with beef ($16). It is super flavorful and has a mighty kick to it. The beef was also perfectly tender. The noodles picked up a lot of the flavor. I also tried the original broth with fatty beef slices ($14), which was good! the flavor of the pork broth is much more subtle though, so my preference is the Szechuan one.

If you're in NJ and craving Hong Kong-style wonton noodle soup, head to Wonton Guy in Edison. It's a no-frills local gem tucked away in a tiny strip mall off Route 27, with a few parking spots out front and more in the back. The space is small (only 10 tables!) and nothing fancy, but the value is hard to beat. It's always busy, and after you take your first slurp of the soup, you'll get why. Service is fast, so the tables turn over quickly. I was able to grab a seat when I walked in on a Saturday evening. The menu is simple and offers 3 main options: 1.) noodle soup with toppings 2.) soup with toppings (no noodles) 3.) lo mein with toppings served with soup on the side From there, you pick your noodle type (egg, flat rice, vermicelli), as well as up to 3 toppings (wontons, dumplings, beef brisket, etc.). There are also a few side dishes like shredded pork in chili tomato sauce, deep fried fish skin, and curry fish balls. They even sell some items raw like wontons, noodles, dumplings, and sliced beef. And the best part is... the prices are very affordable! Most of the dishes are around $11-$16. My order: *Two Toppings (wonton + beef brisket) Noodle Soup [$12.75] - Where do I begin? Every single part of this meal SLAPPED. The wontons were MUMBO JUMBO and generously filled with fresh, plump shrimp that were sweet and juicy. The noodles were soft and springy. The beef brisket was SO tender with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. And the broth? Super rich, aromatic, and savory. It's made of shrimp skin, pork bone, dried flounder fish, dried shrimp, and dried monk fruit, but it doesn't taste fishy at all. Each table is stocked with condiments like vinegar, homemade chili oil, and soy sauce to customize your soup. The chili oil packs some SERIOUS HEAT, so watch out. This was hands down one of the best noodle soups I've had. I was sad when I finished it :-( *Hong Kong-style Milk Tea [$6] - I really enjoyed this! The black tea was bold and strong--almost too strong for me, but the milk balanced it out nicely. I only wish it had boba! Everything tasted authentic. Quick backstory: The owner comes from a family with GENERATIONS of experience making wontons and running noodle shops in Hong Kong. He grew up there and brought those family traditions to his own restaurants in Toronto... and now Edison. All those years of experience clearly show in his food. The broth is simmered overnight, and the wontons are freshly prepared every morning. No shortcuts here--just decades of tradition, skill, and a whole lot of love in every bowl. Ugh, I wish I lived closer because I'd be a regular. It's hard these days to find a place that REALLLLLLY delivers a memorable meal that's both tasty, reasonably priced, and served in generous portions. If you're within driving distance and debating whether it's worth the trip--DON'T! Wonton Guy is absolutely worth a visit, even if it's just once. I drove an hour to try it, and I still think about those wontons all the time... no joke LOL.

It's not quite as hectic and crowded as you might find in Hong Kong or other large city, but it's an intimate space. The menu is really easy to read and order from - if you're not sure where to start, the A1 with Egg Noodles is the classic choice. My personal preference is the flat rice noodle or the rice noodle. I've tried almost all of the toppings. Wontons and dumplings are definitely the classics and what will be most familiar if this is your first time. The other meats tend to be on the fatty side (which is how they're supposed to be!), so if you really prefer lean cuts of meat I would recommend against them. Special shout out to their house chili oil. IT IS FIRE. I believe it is a guilin style chili oil (it doesn't have the peppery numbing of sichuan chili oil). Really delicious in soup and on literally anything else. It is actually quite spicy to apply with caution. There is additional parking in the back, but be careful in this area and carpool instead of everyone driving themselves if you can.

Soup dumplings- the good thing is here they give you 8 pieces (vs 6 pieces in other NJ places). The skin is too thin. It was difficult to pick up with a chopstick or spoon and not 1 piece stayed intact while picking it up. All of the soup leaked out before it even reached my plate. The texture of the skin was "slippery" vs the bouncy kind I usually see with soup dumplings. My husband said he bit into a small piece of bone which is weird. Sweet soy milk- it wasn't a smooth drink. There were lots of soy grits Savory soy milk- tasted very watered down. Didn't have much soy milk flavor Pan fried dumplings- the portion was generous with 6 huge pan fried dumplings. These are the largest I've seen anywhere. They look more like buns than dumplings!! It was ok but overall it didn't taste like a pan fried dumpling. The owners seem really nice and friendly, chatting with some of the customers. Their service was good too. It's just the food isn't authentically Shanghainese.

Their website promised pickup in 20 minutes. I left the The Heldrich Hotel and made the ten minute walk, only to find my order already being bagged. Efficiency like that gives a person hope. Hope, as it turns out, is fragile. Back in the room, I opened the containers immediately. Spicy beef noodles with hand pulled noodles in a beef and pork broth, along with steamed pork soup dumplings that had been spoken of with reverence online. The dumplings were cold. Not warm, not cooling. Cold, like they had been waiting longer than I had. They had fused together into a single tragic mass. When I tried to separate them, the dough tore open and the soup filling spilled out into the container, abandoning its purpose. How this happened during a ten minute walk is a mystery. The more likely answer is that it did not. The noodles were at least hot. The flavor was fine. Not offensive, not memorable, just present. You eat it, and it disappears from your mind almost immediately. This is a place people seem to love, which makes the experience feel like a clerical error in the matrix. Perhaps it was an off night. Perhaps I caught them at the exact wrong moment, but on this particular evening, dinner felt less like a meal and more like a misunderstanding.
