My husband has always loved Spice 24. They recently reopened after renovations and my husband was quick to jump at the chance of eating lunch here. They now control their ordered system through QR codes and it's all completed on your phone. My husband and I both opted for a dry pot. It's $1 for the sauce/seasoning, $4.95 for each meat and $3.95 for each vegetable or starch. As you can imagine this adds up quickly. I ordered the ginger and scallion with beef brisket, pork belly, prince mushrooms, corn, sugar snap peas, and udon noodles. There were a lot of issues with my dish in particular. I ordered mild but my dish was very spicy. I can handle spice but I feel bad if anyone orders this who can't. I'll include a picture with the amount of Szechuan peppers in this dish. The menu says pork belly but what they actually mean is thinly sliced pork which is not the same. Additionally the menu indicated corn so I was under the impression I would get loose corn not corn on the cob. Otherwise, we probably only waited about 5 minutes for our food and all the wait staff was very attentive. My husband loved his dish though so we have very opposite opinions lol. We randomly went to this spot on a Friday night while we had some time to while away.. but what a delightful find it was. We didn't have reservations but luckily we were able to find a table for 2. The spot was super crowded and really busy. The service was quick and friendly and the food was out pretty quick. They do have a good amount of seating too. The menu was a little hard to read for me buttt we landed on a seafood fried rice and the cumin beef to share between my husband and I. The cumin beef was sensational. We keep coming back for it. I've also tried their Chinese szechuan fried rice and that was pretty good too. i came here with a group of 6 people & there was so much food, i really thought i snapped a pic of it all! unfortunately i didn't, so ill recap on the tastier selections. i ordered the mala soup w/ ramen noodles and added beef, broccoli, cilantro, corn, & bok choy. You have a QR code on the table that let's you look at the menu and start a tab (very introvert friendly). When you order through the QR code, they just bring everything out. The bacon fried rice was AMAZING. Super flavorful and savory. I'm literally still thinking about it. Its big enough to be shared with another person. It was my fave dish that I got. The dan dan noodles with pork was alright. It didn't have enough pork and sauce in my opinion. I like the pork wonton in the chilli oil. The black pepper wings were also a favorite of mine. It was fried well and seasoned really good. My only issue is that the plate was covered in unnecessary peppers and veggies and it came with some potato pieces that were bit undercooked for my taste. Stopped by after the new renovations and I can say that the place looks completely different. The decorations and atmosphere is much more brighter. We were greeted by a young lady who was very nice and she was very attentive. The food selections are good. The spicy sour potatoes are good, but would prefer it as a cold dish instead of hot. A staple place I've gone to the past few years from my years at Rutgers that is always a guaranteed good lunch/dinner. They renovated the place since and it definitely looks more inviting and organized than before. The 'free' appetizers when your total is beyond $50 is a nice touch and these appetizers are not stingy at all either. Thank goodness they are open again! Spice 24 underwent some new reconstruction for a few months and they have finally reopened. Previously it was a dimly lit dining area with a bar in the back but now the space is so much bigger and brighter! The food is still just as flavorful especially their signature mala pot. Awesome authentic Chinese cuisine. I have only eaten the design it yourself dry pot, but it always hits the spot. Mala flavors, and everything you could ever want cooked in a dry pot is available. They give you a sheet of paper and a pen, then you indicate on the paper which of the listed items you would like in your pot. The prices per item are also on this sheet of paper. Recommendations for pot items off the topic of my head: Lotus Root, Egg, Lamb, Beef, Fish Ball, Tofu Be warned of the mala flavor and the spice tolerance level you have as well as anyone coming with you when you check out this place. You can also design a dry pot without the mala flavor, although it could be argued that that defeats the purpose. That said, there are also menu items that aren't dry pot, so there is something for everyone here. Will return! read more

I've had good and bad experiences at Spice 24, but every time I come here one thing stays the same - the bill is more than I anticipated. $4.75 for a few slices of pork belly is just insane to me. It's a real bummer that you have to choose a minimum of 5 ingredients for the dry pot option. Also, I opted for the Asian Fusion, sweet/spicy seasoning, but it did not taste at all like how it sounds. It had more of a fermented shrimp paste taste and an atrocious stench. Like baaad B.O. I powered through it because mama didn't raise no wimp, but man...I had the WORST smelling breath, burps, and farts for a full 24 hours. Literally felt like Spongebob from the "Sundae" episode (iykyk). Wouldn't recommend on a romantic date, it will definitely kill the mood. I wish they had a set price for the dry pot and allowed you to choose a specific number of ingredients from a tier list. (I.e. I went there with 2-3 of my friends on an early Sat evening a little early before 6 pm. I was glad to see it packed and that there was a wait...but not too long of it. Signs of a good restaurant which is busy even at 5:30-5:45pm for dinner. The restaurant is not huge, but clean, neat and busy. The staff seemed quite friendly and helpful. I have had some of the best Chinese / Sichuan food here. I am a vegetarian and got the eggplant starter which was delicious. But the killer of a dish was the entreè which was a veggie hot soup bowl of spicy creamy mala sauce with tons of veggies and rice on the side. This, my friends felt like soul food! :-) i love spicy food and this one satisfied to the T...and some more! My friends who eat meat tried the calamari starter which they said was okay, but their entreè also was a winner. We were seated right by the window and placed our order on a paper. I enjoyed how we could customize everything that went into our noodle dish, from the type of noodle, to the toppings, to the sauce or broth. There is a minimum number of items for each dish and I admit that it is pricey. We also ordered the scallion pancakes as an appetizer, which were pretty good, but I wish they were thicker and flakier. I had the stir fry udon noodles with fried tofu, broccoli, bok choy, and beef. You get to choose what you want in your hot pot and the price varies based on what you get. So this place is pretty yummy and the portions are large, but three stars because: 1. Price & minimum -- protein options are $4.75 each and vegetables/other add-ins such as noodles are $3.75 apiece, and you have to get a minimum of five components for an individual order. That means the cheapest meal you can get is almost $19 right off the bat, and that would be without protein. I feel like this should at LEAST be reduced to a 4-item minimum because that would still be plenty of food and would put you in a more reasonable price range. While my portion size was large, it was also mostly noodles -- I did the build-you-own-stir fry and I selected broccoli and cauliflower as a couple of my add-ins and got just a few stalks of each. I was definitely hoping for more at $3.75 each. I also selected double beef -- you get a good amount, but it's very thinly sliced -- and udon noodles. 2. Spice level -- I recognize they literally have "spice" in their name, but when you select a mild-level spice, you're not expecting to have a runny nose through the entire meal. Almost everyone at our table chose a mild spice level and was shocked by how spicy the food was. My fiancé selected "none" for the spice level and his nose was STILL runny (he offered me a bite, but my food was so spicy that I couldn't even taste his).
