Had a late lunch on Sunday when dim sum carts were no longer available. The restaurant was very quiet. We had pork chop in Peking style and fish filet and beans curd casserole. The pork chop was tasty but it was on a sweet side. The casserole came with fried fish and fried bean curd without much vegetables. The service was ok but it seems like price of the menu went up.

This review reflects our experience with weekend dim sum only. I have not dined here for dinner, so I can't speak to that aspect of the restaurant. Dim sum here follows the classic weekend tradition: ladies and gentlemen push carts through the dining room, and you select dishes by peering at what's stacked on their trays. Unlike Chinatown, nothing is announced aloud. You have to ask them what they have before they tell you. With a packed house, the resulting cacophony makes conversation a challenge. You often have to strain just to be heard. Here are the dishes we ordered: Deep-fried shrimp w/salt & pepper - Flavor was decent but messy. (3/5 stars) Baked sweet egg yolk bun - Best enjoyed when piping hot. (4/5 stars) Steamed sticky rice with pork sausage in a lotus leaf - Lacked filling. (3/5 stars) Steamed spareribs w/black bean sauce - Not enough black bean sauce, and the meat was tough. (3/5 stars) Steamed bean curd roll with pork - Rubbery skin texture and barely any pork. (3/5 stars) Steamed chicken feet in black bean sauce - Again, not enough black bean sauce. (3/5 stars) Steamed beef rice noodle Roll - Flavorful, but eat quickly as it gets cold easily. (4/5 stars) Roasted pork pastry - Too doughy and dry. (3/5 stars) Deep-fried squid w/salt & pepper - Skin membrane wasn't fully removed before cooking. (2/5 stars) Service was noticeably lacking. After being seated, we were largely left alone. Empty teapots went unnoticed, and many diners had to flag down any available server just to get their check, often unsuccessfully. Eventually, people began walking up to the cashier to pay. Those needing takeout containers often helped themselves from the back. From conversations with friends and after trying several dim sum spots in the Edison area, this is considered one of the better options. That said, while this place may once have been excellent, it now feels a bit too relaxed--almost complacent. For us, the search for a better dim sum experience continues.

I went to Golden Seafood in Edison, and I was really impressed with how many options they have. Whether you like seafood, chicken, pork, beef, or even vegan dishes, there's something for everyone. The place was super clean and not crowded at all, though that might be because we went on a Thursday night. We ordered hot tea, steamed dumplings, egg rolls, garlic beef with green beans, and Kung Pao chicken. Everything was really flavorful and delicious without being too salty. The only thing I wish they would change is that the dinner meals should come with rice.

Japanese beckoning cat maneki-neko 招き猫 and golden Buddha

Immediately following a visit of a beloved family member in New Jersey my party decided Dim Sum within New Jersey state since we have already entered two (2) bridges, through the New Jersey Turnpike toll and, in addition, to avoid the standard Saturday lunch peak Dim Sum hours of Brooklyn, NY. We awoken very early for preparation and the long-haul drive for this visit with our respective small breakfasts which later hunger pangs strike. My family member found Golden Seaford Restaurant via Google search. Golden Seafood Restaurant is a Chinese banquet restaurant located in Edison, NJ with a large free parking lot shared commercial space with neighboring businesses in a shopping plaza. This Dim Sum restaurant also serves neighboring New Brunswick locale. There is a Japanese beckoning cat maneki-neko 招き猫 in this business to welcome patrons or to bless this business for prosperity. There is also one golden laughing Buddha holding alms bowl and prayer beads. There are free fortune cookies located at the register counter and business card also available for grabs. We entered early approximately 11:00 am and were promptly seated. There were many standard Cantonese Dim Sum dishes lacking as 鱼丸 jyu4 jyun4, fish balls. The staff speaks Cantonese which is very good to hear Cantonese spoken as it is mellifluous... at long last to continue this vernacular Chinese language. We found the quality of food average. There is a dine-in menu to order platter entrées if the Dim Sum dishes does not eat your fill. My foodie analysis: 蝦 餃 haa1 gaau2, shrimp dumplings Good consistency. The dumpling skin is not hard nor thick. 燒賣 siu1 maai6/2, pork and mushroom dumpling Good consistency. 珍珠雞 zan1 zyu1 gai1 mini sticky rice wrapped in Lotus leaves Good consistency. 蒸排骨 zing1 paai4 guk6, steamed spare ribs The spare ribs were swimming in oil and contained very minimal meat for paucity. 牛腸粉 ngau4 coeng4 fan2, beef cheung fun I really enjoyed this dish. The rice noodle was a delight. We ordered two of this dish. 蝦腸粉 haa1 coeng4 fan2, shrimp cheung fun I really enjoyed this dish. The rice noodle was a delight. 牛肉丸 ngau4 juk6 jyun4, steamed beef balls The Dim Sum trolley woman did not cut these in half. It was somewhat easily to break in half using chopsticks. Thankfully, these balls were not annoyingly wrapped in bean curd like other Dim Sum restaurants in NYC. Sans the bean curd, please! Unfortunately since we arrived early morning before 12:00 pm noon on a Saturday, there were no desserts in the Dim Sum trolleys in plain view. Disappointedly, my default favorite Dim Sum desserts were all devoid: 芒 果 布甸 mong4/1 gwo2 bou3 din1, mango pudding 杏仁豆腐 hang6 jan4 dau6 fu6, almond pudding 椰汁糕 je4 zap1 gou1, coconut pudding I was baffled that 芝麻卷 zi1 maa4 gyun2, black sesame roll was also devoid as this is my family member's favorite dessert. Subsequently, I munched on ice cream upon returning home for dessert. Facilities are available and relatively clean. Customer service is attentive as we were promptly seated, our plates were changed, the finished Dim Sum plates were removed, our tea pot were refilled, flagging a wait staff associate and our claim check bill were hand written tallied in a timely matter. My desideratum is for more food options of Dim Sum trolleys to circulate within the restaurant including dessert. No one in my party became ill as a result of our dining experience. As per this Golden Seafood Restaurant's business card, there is a private room for karaoke TV where patrons can sing and eat Dim Sum. Price is high which is standard that accurately aligns with inflation/ tariff era. Unfortunately Chinese soy sauce are subjected to No. 47's plaguing unrealistic excessive exorbitant tariffs from China.

Came on a Tuesday afternoon at 11:00am the day before NYE. A few large tables but no wait and not too busy. Interior was cute with an AI holiday youtube video playing on silent. We ordered veg lo mein, veg spring roll, steamed shrimp dump, steamed beef tripe with ginger and scallion, sweet egg yolk bun, beef rice roll, pork bun, shumai, chinese dough with rice noodle, turnip cake, shrimp with snow pea leaf dumpling. No carts but everything was fresh except for the deep fried mochi pork dumpling (ham sui gok), would 100% pass on it since it was cold (and oily because it was cold) but not the first restaurant to do this. Otherwise the shrimp with snow pea leaf was a big winner. No carts on weekdays. Service was hard to get hold of in the beginning but after our order was in food kept coming out, tea was refilled. Had to pay attention though since servers brought us things at the end that wasn't ours!

I came to Golden Seafood Restaurant to celebrate a wedding banquet and they were able to service ~200 people successfully. In my experience, all the dishes were served in a timely manner and with quality standards. A great Cantonese style type restaurant for Edison, New Jersey.

Weekend Chinese dumpling fix! Always busy on the weekends but if you come a little before 11, it's not that bad but after 12 noon, there's a line waiting at the door Food is always good and if you don't see what you want, you could always order it

This spot gets the job done if you're looking for no frills dim sum! We were able to get in during peak dimsum hours on a Saturday (with plenty of parking in that particular commercial area), though as a smaller group we had to share a round table with other parties. There is a good selection of typical dim sum plates, and some of my favorites are the golden egg yolk buns, the shrimp in peppers, the congee, and shrimp scallion buns. Unfortunately almost all of the soup dumplings we ordered were split so we weren't able to really enjoy it the way it was intended to. The service is pretty fast and it's in the traditional dim sum format with carts containing various dishes that circulate around. We left feeling pretty full for three people, and the prices were reasonable.

Authentic Cantonese food served here. Service is what you would expect for an authentic restaurant (polite but expect to flag down the waiters for things). We followed a general rule that has served us well and ordered one dish per adult +1 and it was the perfect amount. Ambiance is a good place for going for a family style dinner, perhaps not great for date night.

Our party of 12 came here with a Friday night reservation for 6:30 PM. We weren't celebrating anything in particular but we did order a lot of the classic birthday dishes, including fried flounder, lobster, abalone, chicken, conch with fried tofu and shrimp, fried shrimp with mayo, sweet and sour pork ribs, longevity noodles, and fried rice. I haven't had this type of traditional Cantonese food in years, so this was very nostalgic for me. My favorites were definitely the fried flounder and the lobster. The shrimp with mayo was a little disappointing because it was just a lot of batter. Typically, it should just be a light coating, so that was a bit different. Although this is a bit far for me, I think I would still be willing to make the trek every once in a while, especially since there isn't really any authentic Cantonese food by my neighborhood.

Super busy on weekends as everyone comes for dim sum - expect a little bit of a wait. If you are willing to share a table with another group, it'll move faster. There is decent variety in terms of dim sum offered and you can order off their full menu as well. There is ample parking as this is located in a plaza with several other restaurants.

Came in for a short dim sum breakfast with our daughter a senior at Rutgers. Place was pretty busy so we ended up sharing a table with another party. Dim sum carts started pulling up next to us with their various foods and we went to find some good things. Tea was hot place was lively, and the food was good. Our go to place for Chinese cuisine.

A dim sum staple for anyone in the Edison-New Brunswick area. The food was fresh and the options plentiful. I went with a friend who speaks Cantonese and that definitely made the whole ordering process smoother. The dining room is spacious with plenty of round tables that looked like they seat 8. But it sure fills up fast!

Tofu and Fish hotpot: Fried white fish, fried tofu, string beans, bell peppers in a sauce that is probably reduced chicken stock. I'm biased since it's one of my favorite chinese dishes. I don't know when this specific dish is amazing, but I can tell you when it's bad. Green Lake's version is anything but bad. Shrimp Stuffed Tofu: We were given a sample since they were trying something new. The sauce is similar to the tofu hotpot but has a porkier feel because of the ground pork within the dish. The tofu is the same, but the way they fried it is different, so it took a step up. The shrimp was fine, and I think they should have this on their menu. Whole Fried Chicken: It's fine. Didn't love it. There's no batter to speak of at all, and you're reliant on the spicy sauce and ginger sauce provided. Stir Fried French Beans w/ Salted Fish: Crunchy French Beans, and very salty salted fish. Not my favorite, but it keeps things different. Hot prawn salad with broccoli: The broccoli was just boiled. It is no-frills, but not exactly "hole in the wall" type that lack in aesthetics for upscale lavish atmosphere but the deficiency is resolved in the food quality. There is one sole functioning restroom in the whole business, ergo, stand in line and wait. We entered hungry in a lugubrious sense of deep sorrow, but exited hunger pangs fulfilled. It's in a quiet area, so the crowd wasn't too crazy.

It can be better. The restaurant is in decent condition. As for me, there are many other better dim sum restaurants.

My typical go-tos are: [Apps] soup dumplings, shiu mai, spicy wontons, vegetable spring roll, shrimp and vegetable pot stick, shrimp dumplings; [Soups] fish rice noodle, spicy fish rice noodle, spicy seafood, Shanghai wonton, shrimp and pork wonton, beef (I forget what it's called - it's the #1 ordered one there); [Mains] beef chow fun, fish fillets with scallions, salt and pepper pork chop, salt and pepper fish, fish fillets in wine sauce, young chow fried rice, and the standard chicken and broccoli. All delish! I think I've been going there long enough as to where they probably know it's me when I call in an order. Highly recommend for authentic Chinese food.

I actually visited here early last month while on a trip to visit family friends and friends in…read moreNY/NJ. I was flipping ecstatic when I saw this place was still open and survived the C-Word. I felt so at home eating the food I had back in my college days with my original order. I will say that the restaurant did downsize, however I'm just happy that they're still there to begin with, just in case I haven't elaborated. The decor did get a nice lift and more modern than the back of the day set up. I think it's cute. I believe the young lady that's been there for years may have been the owner the whole time and I was just too oblivious to actually pay attention. The server herself... I felt bad that she couldn't really understand me as my order was incorrect on what I was missing in my soup. My usual from back in the day was Beef and Beef Tendon Noodle Soup, and I would always ask for tripe with mixed beef intestines... so I was missing the intestines but genuinely didn't really think of it as a big deal since I just wanted to taste the food again. Overall, soup, 15/10. The XLB's are just goodness and warms my soul and lord have mercy how much I have missed these little puppies. I need to let everyone know that there is no good XLB's in the San Jose or East Bay Area of California. Complete disappointment. But that's just my opinion. Shanghai Noodle House's XLB's 20/10

We decided to come here again after many years. I remember when the line used to be out the door…read moreand the wait times were long. We came on a Sunday around 1pm and about half the tables were occupied so there was no wait. First thing I noticed is the inside is all different, maybe newer looking. They must have changed ownership from when I last came. The food wasn't authentic and wasn't good. We ordered soup dumplings, sweet soy milk, savory soy milk, and pan fried dumplings. Soup dumplings- the good thing is here they give you 8 pieces (vs 6 pieces in other NJ places). The skin is too thin. It was difficult to pick up with a chopstick or spoon and not 1 piece stayed intact while picking it up. All of the soup leaked out before it even reached my plate. The texture of the skin was "slippery" vs the bouncy kind I usually see with soup dumplings. My husband said he bit into a small piece of bone which is weird. Sweet soy milk- it wasn't a smooth drink. There were lots of soy grits Savory soy milk- tasted very watered down. Didn't have much soy milk flavor Pan fried dumplings- the portion was generous with 6 huge pan fried dumplings. These are the largest I've seen anywhere. They look more like buns than dumplings!! It was ok but overall it didn't taste like a pan fried dumpling. The owners seem really nice and friendly, chatting with some of the customers. Their service was good too. It's just the food isn't authentically Shanghainese.
