I've been eating here since 2019, and it's been really cool seeing them grow from a tiny spot in Kaimuki into the much larger space they have now. This year was actually my first time trying dinner, and I have to say, I really enjoyed it! Dinner: Garlic Shrimp Dumplings: Flavorful and a good start to the meal. No King Salad: Surprisingly tasty! I liked adding something healthier and different to the meal. It was fresh and crunchy and gave us a nice break from some of the heavier dishes. Canoe Party: I really enjoyed this one too! Steak Ramen: Pretty filling, flavorful, and definitely meaty. Crémeux: This had a passion fruit topping that I really liked. A nice way to end the meal. Ulu Vanilla Cruller: I liked the warm dough with the ice cream on top. Something about the warm and cold combination was just yummy. Breakfast: Cornflake French Toast: Always a win and probably my staple here. Something about the salty and sweet, hot and cold, crispy and soft combination is just SO good. As you can probably tell from my photos, I get this pretty much every time I come Fish and Eggs: Tried this recently and really enjoyed it. Everything tasted fresh and light, and I loved the combination of flavors. My only thing is that sometimes the portions here can feel a little small for the price. Dumplings: They were good, but I honestly don't remember anything particularly special about them. Breakfast Bibimbap: Good, but for what it is and the amount you get, I'm not sure it feels as worth it to me. Koko Moko: Similar thoughts to the breakfast bibimbap. It was good, but the portion and price made it less of a standout for me. Benedict: I've had this in the past, although I'm not sure if they still have it on the menu. Overall, I've clearly been coming back for years for a reason The Cornflake French Toast is still my tried-and-true favorite, but I'm glad I finally gave dinner a try too!

My friend and I came to Koko Head Cafe for brunch after a hike, and we really enjoyed it! We ordered the Ohayou eggs and the cornflake French toast to share, both dishes were fantastic! We were especially impressed by the Ohayou eggs. All of the ingredients together in that creamy, savory sauce were so good, especially paired with the baguette. We even ordered extra baguette to make sure we could soak up every bit of the sauce from the skillet! The cornflake French toast was sweet and decadent. With the gelato on top, it almost felt like it was a dessert. Even though the restaurant was quite busy, we were seated right away. Our server was friendly, and our food came out within a reasonable amount of time. I really liked this spot for brunch and would come here again!

Want to start by saying I took way more photos, for some reason by the time we were done eating and I was ready to write my review most were all zapped out of Yelp. Been wanting to try this place for awhile and glad we did. Everything was good and had a certain nuance to it, but I wasn't wowed by anything. I think from me it was a little under flavored, but well executed. Liked the casual ambience and service. It's in a part of town that can get busy and mostly paid parking, except for free street parking on Sundays.

You're doing too much. We were excited to try this spot, especially knowing the owner competed on Top Chef, but unfortunately almost every dish felt overcomplicated. Sometimes less really is more, and in this case, the fusion and number of competing flavors seemed to overtake the dishes themselves. We ordered the Volcano Eggs, Chicken & Eggs, and Ricotta Pancakes so we could try a little of everything. The chicken itself was good, and so were the pickled onions, but the Chicken & Eggs as a complete dish just didn't work for us. There was so much happening on the plate that the individual components seemed to fight each other rather than come together. The Volcano Eggs had a similar issue; lots of bold flavors, but they didn't blend particularly well. The ricotta pancakes probably had the most potential. The pancakes themselves were delicious and, with real butter and maybe a light jam, could have been amazing. Instead, they were buried under a complicated sauce that overpowered them. I kept thinking: just let the food shine! A couple of other things took away from the experience. Each time the kitchen staff received a tip, there was loud yelling/celebrating from the kitchen. It happened about four times during our brunch and became excessive and disruptive. The suggested gratuity also starts at 19%, which felt a little off-putting given the already higher price point. Our waiter was very nice and provided good service. Just be aware that dining times seem to be fairly strict , once your allotted time is up, you definitely get the feeling that it's time to go. There are some genuinely good components here, and clearly a lot of creativity and thought goes into the menu. For us, though, simplifying the dishes and letting the quality ingredients speak for themselves would make a huge difference.

Came here after hiking Diamond Head. We got here when it opened and were seated right away. Service was welcoming from the start and our waiter was very helpful and friendly. We got multiple things and everyone was very pleased with their dish. My daughter absolutely loved her fish and eggs. My koko moco was so amazing. A very generous and fresh patty and all the flavors were just heavenly. The haupia pancakes were an absolute favorite as well. The restaurant is cute, modern and bright with spacious seating.

Our big group walked in on a Tuesday for lunch and they accommodated us right before the kitchen closed, which we really appreciated! Highlights were the cornflake French toast and Koko moco. Also loved the POG juice and breakfast bibimbap. Can't recommend this place more!

The whole place is an experience! Unique Hawaii flavors with an Asian twist. Delicious! Service was good and the place was nice and clean. They kitchen it open and if you tip them, they'll cheer for everybody. The shoyu chicken tempura style is AMAZING!

Okkkkkk first Hawaiian stop! And it was amazing! The service was great!! Our waitress was super friendly and the vibes at the restaurant were super great! We were thought of as locals! Always a great feeling when we blend in a bit! But overall the food was delicious, service was great and I didn't think it was overly priced either It was also a pretty busy place.

Came here with some friends for brunch and had a great experience. Everyone enjoyed the meal. We ordered the breakfast bibimbap, volcano eggs, ricotta pancakes, and pickle plate. Had a Bloody Mary to complement my meal. Service was excellent, someone was always refilling and taking plates away as we finished.

It's been a while since I've been to Koko Head Cafe and I'm happy to report it's just as good as it was years ago! I decided to book a table here because this restaurant is one of the few places that accepts reservations for weekend brunch. Love that! The restaurant was lively on a Sunday, yet service was still good. I ordered the volcano eggs skillet, which was a little salty, but it was great for dipping my bread into. The restaurant also had a few specials and we ended up ordering a biscuit with guava jam - star of the show! The biscuit was amazing!! I liked that there were a lot of local ingredients featured and dishes were very unique, and not your standard pancakes, French toast and eggs and breakfast meat type of place. Overall, a great spot for brunch.

Mapo Tagliatelle

Unique flavors with a local twist, beautiful presentations, and generous portions. We received a lot of awesome tips from the server who was friendly, helpful and gracious. We ordered a variety of entrees to share family style for dinner Every dish was packed with flavor. The top five: 1. Garlic Butter Shrimp Dumplings 2. Lamb Special 3. No Kings Caesar Salad - literally a showered with parmigiana 4. Mapo Tagliatelle 5. Desserts - Chocolate Lilikoi We also enjoyed the Fried Jidori Chicken, the Pork Katsu, Canoe House appetizer and the garlic rice skillet. A relaxing and delicious dining experience with great friends!

Everything about Koko Head Cafe was top-notch -- the staff, the food, the location, all of it! I tried the lavender sea salt biscuit, which was their special, and WOW. It was amazing! It came with honey butter and jam, and everything is house-made. You can absolutely taste the difference. Such a great experience from start to finish. The food was delicious, the staff was wonderful, and this is definitely a place I'd come back to!

Strata (07/03 Special)
Angeli M.

Came on a Friday morning to try Koko Head Cafe for the first time and got out of the restaurant feeling satisfied. The interior of the restaurant felt homey. The menu boasts unique & well-executed twists on your familiar breakfast items. Their Specials menu also seem to change everyday. I ordered the Breakfast Congee, my boyfriend ordered the Koko Moco, and we had the Strata from their Daily Specials, to share. Breakfast Congee: 9/10. Comforting and yummy. I wasn't expecting that all of the toppings would mix well together and elevate the seemingly simple taste of congee. I could taste a bit of spice due to the chili oil, which added to the combination of many other flavors. I needed something comforting in the morning so it really hit the spot. Koko Moco: pretty good in terms of the taste but the portion was a little smaller than expected, but we had the Strata to share and felt satisfied after having that. Strata: Reading the description on the menu sounded very interesting, but all the ingredients really blended well together! I found myself eating the congee and strata alternately during our meal. Although there was a bit of a wait for the food to arrive (it was a busy Friday morning with a 25-40 minute wait to be seated), the service was great and the staff were attentive to our needs. Ample parking at the Kaimuki Municipal Lot with entrances by 12th Avenue.

Ask the Community - Koko Head Cafe

Do they have happy hour for drinks?

Yea Thursday and Friday this month

Do they take reservations?

They do not. They have a waiting list you can get on online up to 6 persons. More than 6 you have to call and they ask when you plan to arrive and will get you on the waiting list closer to the time you plan to be there. I called that morning for…

Menu clearly states "no substitutions" which makes it very limiting for those of us who are vegan. Any plans to offer vegan versions (not fake meat--just using things like tofu or beans instead?

We have our Westie with us. We were wondering if the 'Dogs Allowed' was only for service dogs or all dogs?

I am certain they allow dogs on the outdoor patio!

Do they do takeout?

yes, you can call ahead!

Do you need to bring a huge bag of $$$? Asking for a friend.

Check the menu on line. Prices seemed average.

See that they have an 18% service charge for parties of five or more...is there an additional 5% service charge for the back of the house on top of that!?

Yes, that is correct.

Does anyone know when the restaurant will open? The website is listing both Wednesday the 16th and Friday the 18th as the opening date?

They reopened on the 18th of March at their new location, just 1 block away (former restaurant was 12th Ave Grill)

Closed bc they're moving?

I just saw the sign at their restaurant. They're moving to 1120 12th Ave. tried to scope it out, but only 12th Ave grill seems to be there still.

Do they deliver?

I believe they are on Grubhub and door dash for delivery options

How is parking in this area?

There is a large paid parking lot in the center of Kaimuki about a block away and metered spaces within a block as well. Pretty decent parking depending on what time of day you go.

Do they sale Gift Cards?

Yes they do! I bought one😊

Do they take Reservations for Mother's Day Breakfast?

As far as I know they do not take reservations, easiest way is to send someone ahead to put name on list. They do sit quickly though even when busy. Normally no more than 20-30 min wait at it's busiest

Any vegan options?

Yes Avocado toast!

I ordered Dorie Greenspan's Chocolate Cake with ice cream. The sauce contained alcohol, so I asked for it on the side, which they were happy to do. I ended up enjoying the chocolate cake with the ice cream, and it was really good. My husband ordered the Rocky Road, which I know is a popular dessert there, but we both thought it was just okay. The restaurant itself is really cute and had a great atmosphere. It was pretty busy when we went, which definitely gave it a lively feel. Overall, I'm glad I got to try Fête, but based on the pastas and desserts I've had elsewhere, it wasn't a personal favorite. The chocolate cake was definitely the standout for me!

It's the table and space is very spacious that you don't have be afraid of been squished with other people. Besides that, they have a pretty good selection too! Price is reasonable with the portion of the food is serve. Miso Butter Fish 5/5: I will never be tried of eating & ordering the miso butter fish. It's definitely one of the best butter fish in a non-Japanese restaurant. It's buttery, with the perfect level of the miso flavor that's not salty or blend/no miso flavor. The fish it's cooked into perfection that's not overcooked. Although it's pricery compare to other dishes, but it's worth it; especially the butter fish is a pretty big size that comes w/ salad and rice. Grilled Garlic Chicken 4.5/5: The garlic chicken is not the same as a regular garlic chicken that you get from a barbecue restaurant; it doesn't have that barbecue sauce flavor. However, it's still taste pretty good. The garlic flavor is there, but not so strong that over power the taste of the chicken. More importantly, chicken is not overcooked as some restaurants can overcook the chicken. However, it comes w/ gravy on top of the chicken. If you eat it w/ the gravy, you probably will it be able to taste the garlic. Mac Nut Waffard 4.5/5 This is not the regular waffles. This "waffard" it's the Mac nut waffle that comes with their iconic custard, fruits and whipped cream. The waffle is super soft & fluffy with a crispy outside edges. Also, the waffle is not mushy, rather, it has a slightly mochi/chewy texture. The waffle is also not over sweet that actually can be pair with their famous custard fillings. Pancakes 5/5 I normally not a pancake person because I am afraid that it can be over sweet or very bland that has no taste but a flour flavor. But I fall in love with the pancake at first try because it's soooo fluffy and soft! More importantly, it's not sweet that actually can be paired with syrup and butter. However, it's also not bland that can be just eaten by itself without syrup or butter. Hands down on it! Plus, the size of the pancake is actually pretty big.
