Loved Koko Head Cafe! Came here on my birthday on Sunday and the staff were so nice! I tried their ricotta pancakes. They were delicious! I will def be craving these when I return home. I'm unsure of what they mean by "island style". I think that a more appropriate term would be hapa fusion. The music provided the island vibes, but the food gives me the impression that a haole aunty made it. I went in this morning and ordered the chicky and eggs. I am a foodie and I must admit that it made me sad. It was bland and lacked flavor, especially the eggs. Overall the composition of the dish was interesting, giving me the impression that the direction of flavor lacked a destination. Aside from the food, the service was great. I was aware of this place because of watching LeeAnne Wong on Top Chef. It was so good! What a wonderful brunch experience. Flavorful and quality food. The cornflake French toast was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The creamy maple syrup gravy was a different take. Then the Frosted Flakes ice cream was the icing on the cake. Not too sweet and the cereal ice cream is what we need. Also bacon was such a great touch. The Koko Moco was great. Wasn't my favorite but a lot of food. The crispy rice on the bottom was solid. I have been looking around for a really good loco moco from Honolulu to Sacramento with that special gravy flavor and I might have found it here. We drove by Koko Head Cafe on the weekend, but the lines outside were too long so we were driving around on our final day of our Honolulu vacation and saw the the traffic on Tuesday was a lot better so we gave it a try. The rice was crispy and not like anything I have ever had and the burger was great, but the gravy hit the spot and got rave notices from all three of us. I may have tasted something as good years ago at the Big City Diner at Ward Village, but I have tasted nothing like it since. I don't know if it is the fat, spices, seasoning or what, but I have never been able to replicate it since at home. The cafe was not crowded and the staff was excellent with very good service and friendliness. We also had an excellent salad and some good coffee so we will definitely come back next year. read more

Came here this past weekend w one of my gfs and my son. There is parking in the lot (you need to pay) and the restaurant itself was bigger than I thought Food: my friend got the kimchee fried rice skillet, I got the loco moco skillet, and a fruit plate for my son. Everything was pretty good but the portions were way too small. Usually I can get away with sharing a plate w my son (he's 4) and ordering him a small side but us sharing the koko moco and the fruit platter was not enough for either of us. Also the fruit plate is a plate of exotic fruit not really the typical grapes pineapples etc. Luckily my son isn't picky so he still tried and ate most of it. Overall the food was okay, nothing crazy good but not bad either. Price: I think the price point was also pretty steep for the skillets. It was about $20-22 and it wasn't that big so I don't think it's worth it. Also, you have to pay for parking (about $2). Not a whole lot of $ for parking but that plus the kitchen fee (5% of your total) plus a tip for the servers adds up. Overall the place itself was pretty cute and clean but I don't think this is going to be a place I frequent often maybe just when I'm in the area read more

Unfortunately my party of five was very underwhelmed by our early morning breakfast here. I know it's wildly popular and often has a long line out the door, and none of us had gone before, so we didn't expect this. I'll start by saying there was no wait at 7:30am, our server was great, and it's cozy and tidy inside! But the food was a letdown. I often find the risk with Asian fusion brunch is that the portions are small, the price is high, and I often find it a downgrade from the original inspiration, and unfortunately that was the case today. The weekly special adobo tempura fried chicken comes out in a pretty tiny skillet, and all the skillets ate generally $25-$32 a pop depending on market prices. The flavors were not as strong as classic adobo and I only spotted two small pieces of chicken. The garlic rice was deliciously crispy from the cast iron though! The Illy cappuccino I got was $5 and was absolutely a hotel lobby single-press button machine coffee, which was crazy for the price. The rest of my party did not enjoy their food for the prices either- breakfast congee looked gorgeous but ended up also somehow being quite bland despite all the bacon bits and umami looking toppings. The fresh fruit juices were tasty for $8 but you don't get a big glass either. Dunno! Felt like misses all around, and I don't think I'd try again for how much we ended up paying, but I can appreciate that they're trying to highlight local brands like Hispice and source locally. Doesn't alleviate unsatisfying expensive food though. read more

Here is what was ordered: Volcano Eggs: These eggs were decent in terms of taste, but the eggs overcooked a bit, and the bread was burnt. The Loco Moko: Was undercooked and the flavors weren't all there... i've had way better elsewhere. The Crusted French Toast: This was the best thing they had to offer. This was a sweet treat and was enjoyable especially with the crunch. 4/10.- If you'd like overpriced food that its taste doesn't match the price tag, come here. We've eaten at Koko Head Café many times and supported them countless times over the years. Unfortunately, after tonight, we won't be returning. After enjoying dinner at Oahu Grill, we were walking around the shopping center and decided to stop by Koko Head Café for dessert. As we entered, we were greeted by the host, Kailey -- a sweet young woman who was likely just following management's policy. I asked if I could use the restroom to wash up before we ordered, but was told we couldn't use it unless we had already ordered food. That response left a really poor impression. We decided to walk across the street and get dessert elsewhere instead. It's incredibly disappointing to be treated like that, especially as long-time patrons. Whether it was a strict policy or how we looked -- in tank tops and surf shorts -- the lack of customer service was clear. Sadly, we won't be returning. read more

Hands down a must try! Our party of four stopped by for lunch and this way the meal we couldn't stop talking about our whole trip. We had excellent service all the staff were pleasant helpful and our glasses were never empty. They even came around to check in on us and offer hot sauce! Do yourself a favor and order anything in a skillet with rice, either the bibimbap or the koko moco. If you're a fan of crispy rice you won't find a better place. The rice comes off so cleanly from the skillet and crisp to perfection. Honestly the bibimbap could have used more sauce or if they left a bottle of sauce to allow customer to adjust to taste would have elevated the experience even more. We also ordered the French toast which was as amazing as the skillet dishes but not bad for a sweet breakfast item. We tried: - Coffee Plus - the whiskey and Kahlua were overpowering the coffee and was stronger than preferred for brunch - Strawberry Guava Soda - tasted like a shrub so slightly vinegary. Not bad but not as expected - Cornflake French Toast - okay but overly sweet and majorly overpriced - Koko Moco - the gravy was good and the egg was nice. However I ordered it was a medium patty, and was given one that was very well done. Although I love crispy skillet rice, I don't think it goes very well with loco moco. - Chicky & Eggs - I wasn't a fan of the maple Tabasco (overly sweet) so I'm glad that was on the side. The French style scrambled eggs were nice, light and fluffy. The service was just okay. Everyone was nice but they weren't the most attentive and a bit disorganized. We had multiple servers come over trying to give us food we hadn't ordered haha. The service was quick though which is always appreciated. Overall I'm glad I tried it again, as I don't remember much from my initial visit years ago (guess that should have been a sign). About a 2-2.5: Koko Head Cafe has been around since '14, and they seem to be a popular brunch spot - They describe themselves as an 'Island Style Brunch House', and their menu is pretty extensive, with daily specials that include baked goods and food specials. We ordered: +a Cinnamon Roll - which seemed to have some lilikoi filling and a very thick and creamy cream cheese icing; the roll itself wasn't dried out, but actually warm and slightly fluffy; definitely a decadent treat +a Koko Moco - a beef patty with a mushroom gravy, a sunny-side up egg, tempura kimchi, and set upon a crispy garlic rice; unfortunately, it seemed as if whoever was preparing or seasoning the patty was very heavy-handed with the sea salt, as you could literally taste rocks of salt on it, making it extremely salty; the gravy itself was savory, but we didn't find any mushrooms in it; the egg was runny, and the tempura kimchi was interesting (just wish there were more pieces); the 'crispy' garlic rice didn't have much garlic flavor, and while some parts were a little crispy, it was overall soggy and saturated with the oil/grease +a latte with almond milk +POG (passion fruit, orange, and guava) - refreshing, but costing $6 for a small glass was a bit too much Service was kind and friendly, and the interior is actually spacious. First time at the new location, so I thought we were lost for a hot second! Glad we found it. Came on a weekday, after a sunrise hike at Diamond State park, and Kokohead wasn't that busy yet. Host gave us a tip to park next to the restaurant as the rates are better than the metered parking. We always get the dumplings of the day, and it was sooo good. Got a zero proof and two cocktails: Mai tai and strawberry kula - so refreshing. Had the ricotta pancakes, loco moco, and scrambled eggs. Everything was yummy. For ambiance Koko Head cafe is nice and bright with high ceilings which make it feel very open and lot of space inside. Aesthetically the dishes look great and the service is very like and punctual. Unfortunately I feel like the food sometimes sounds or looks better than it tastes for the price point. The triple garlic noodles sounded unique but the noodle quality tasted like packet instant ramen, the garlic taste was prevalent but I wouldn't be able to tell you the three ways it was used, and as a whole became quickly gummy and a giant glob of noodles so it was hard to pull or get actual bites. Their menu is pretty extensive and the waiter explained many items for us. He also told us the story of the head chef who was a contestant on Top Chef. The 2 of us shared: Cornflake French toast - I wish this had a half order option. But it was a bit too sweet and thick. It had bacon and ice cream on top, so it was a meal itself. I ordered a side of portuguese sausage as I missed the part of the included bacon. But I much prefer the Portuguese sausage over the over cooked bacon. Ohayou Eggs - this was quite delicious! Especially when you also order the hash brown and eat it together. The eggs were savory with parmesan, mushroom, ham, cream sauce and various cheese. I would come back and order these 2 items again. I absolutely love this place. Everything about it is chefs kiss. All the food items is curated to perfection. I haven't tried a dish I didn't like. For example, I'm not a potatoes person but the hash browns are ADDICTING. I don't know how they make it but it's perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It's not over seasoned either. I feel like my description is not doing the hash brown justice so you'll just have to order one yourself. The volcano eggs is their spin on shakshouka and it's spectacular! You have the option to add on Portuguese sausage and/or veggies. I have had both and I prefer the veggie volcano eggs with the meat on the side. The reason being is that if you get the Portuguese sausage in the skillet, the excess oil from the sausage becomes overpowering (in my opinion). This is also my favorite dish on the menu. The bibimbaps presentation is great but the taste is even better. It looks intimidating just because there's a lot of elements to the dish but trust me, it's so good. I don't have pictures of the poke omelette but that's also a crowd favorite. You gotta get it w the garlic rice. So incredibly good. In terms of service, the service is amazing and food comes out so fast. The only downside is that it is so crowded, so make sure you call ahead for reservations or just sit at the bar. Parking - there's a parking lot but you gotta pay for it. Otherwise you can find street parking. I highly recommend this place. It's my favorite place to take any of my visitors. read more

We looked for a place to eat in the Kaimukī area, and came across Chef Leeanne Wong's Koko Head Cafe. Great choice! This location used to be a Columbia Inn up until 2014 (or so) ... went there a few times with my grandparents for dinner, then a couple of times in the 90s with friends. It's amazing how this place was transformed into the Koko Head Cafe. The food we had was excellent, and so was the service! Definitely will go back to try some of the other dishes on the menu. read more
