I've been a fan of Kobe for years. The food is always good. Service is hit and miss but that's all restaurants. The ambience is not too stuffy, more of a cool chill atmosphere and always impeccably clean. Kobe has my favorite drinks in town, they just need a spicy margarita on the menu. It's difficult to find this place! I wandered in confusion, not seeing it at the address. I called and was told to go down the stairs. The ones by the totem? Yes. More wandering, more confusion. I asked the bartender at the little bar down there. She pointed out another set of stairs to go up! Ah, so! Worth it! I sat outside on the patio and had miso soup, Yakuza roll. Both delicious. Stumbled upon Kobe as a restaurant recommendation from the front desk as I checked in to my hotel. Without a doubt Ashland always seems to impress me with their restaurant/food scene. My co-workers and I were in town for work and were thoroughly impress at how fresh their sushi tasted. For starters, we had their lobster tempura, yellowtail carpaccio, Sunshine roll. and edamame. I probably would have preferred their regular tempura, but their yellowtail carpaccio was delicious. Another standout was their sunshine roll. For main entree, we each ordered a sashimi/nigiri set. Their selection of nigiri fishes were standard but good. As for dessert, we had shared their creme brulee which was perfect to end our meal. read more

I didn't expect to run into such a top notch sushi spot deep in southern Oregon. The fish was fresh and high quality. In the rolls, the chef had an ability to pair ingredients that emphasized texture, all the while working in excellent flavors. The darru and surf and turf rolls were a highlight. The sea urchin roll was out-of-this-world, like a bite of delicious ocean. Starting with the wagyu sliders was a great contrast to the cold sushi dishes. Fatty beef, seared, with salty seasoning and pickles. Excellent! The service was struggling the night we went. They held us up at the bar 20 minutes past our reservation time. They only seated us because we gave up on waiting for an outdoor table. It then took 20 minutes to meet the server and order, and another 45 minutes to start eating. Ultimately the food exceeded the flaccid service. I will be back, but not on a night when I'm in a hurry. read more

Went here for a birthday dinner with friends and the auto gratuity they print is sooo small to see that the waiter got 40% tip from the whole table.the bald server didnt mention auto gratuity at any point. Will never go back here and the quality of food went downhill from a few years ago. Fish was not very fresh and the lemon slices on the roll were so thick they were inedible. There are much better options out there from less greedy businesses. I steer many people away from here since then, TEKKAMAKI SUSHI IN MEDFORD IS WAAAAAAY BETTER!!! read more

When you come to Kobe, you're really just coming for the atmosphere. The food is priced for the patio seating next to the creek. Very nice for a date, family time, or solo. Service can be hit/miss, but at least everyone is friendly. The menu description is very enticing, but the delivery somehow falls a little short for the value. I may be a bit harsh, but for the price (even with the ambiance), I would like for the sushi rice to be seasoned appropriately. Probably one of the most difficult things to achieve when making nigiri. Again, for the price point, I am expecting the rice to shine. I will be back as all of the above are not deal breakers due to the location, but wanted to help manage readers' expectations. read more

Staff was friendly here and food was OK- not sure if you'll get better in this area but if you've had sushi anywhere else on the west coast you probably won't be blown away. Fish was fresh but rolls in general lacked flavour. Tempura was piping hot but again not much flavour, but by no means bad at all. We got a bunch of rolls to try and food came out VERY slow for a Monday night but servers were attentive to water refills. Probably won't come again but only because I'll probably just give up on Southern Oregon sushi for the time being. Not bad overall read more

The food took quite a while because I believe they had someone in training, however the wait was totally worth it. We had walked in without reservations and they sat us right away. The location is interesting you end up sort of under this bridge but the decor and landscaping and sounds of the creek rushing near by you feel like your in a very secluded get away. The service was excellent and we had several rolls and some sashimi. Some very good small batch sake from Kyoto that was the smoothest I'd ever had. We finished it off with their flourless chocolate cake which was super rich three of us couldn't even finish it. read more

We've been coming to Kobe for years and loved it. COVID seems to have hit it hard but, thankfully, Kobe made it through that challenging time. We want to support them but the last several times we were disappointed. The last time was the worst. My lobster tempura salad was MUCH smaller than usual. I ordered a sky diver roll because if I didn't I knew I'd leave hungry. It had very, very little crab -- actually none that i could taste or see. It appeared to be only rice and fell apart. Basically inedible -- unless you have a fetish for white sushi rice. I don't. After that, we decided to stop going for a while in hopes that they would get their act together. Based on the current reviews on Yelp, it doesn't look like that has happened yet. Please, please, PLEASE get back to your former greatness. We love you!!! read more

We eat a lot of sushi in San Francisco. So a week into our trip north to Oregon we were ready to see what Ashland had to offer. And it was good. Not great, but good. The nigiri and rolls were good, the ambiance (we sat outside on a nice warm evening) was good, and the service was really good (the food didn't come out until almost too late for us to make Lizard Boy, but the server was really good). Next time in Ashland I'd go again. But I'm glad I live in SF. read more

With a wide variety of sushi and related food available alongside a great atmosphere it's no surprise that this place has become a staple of Ashland. Personally I absolutely love the crunch cheese sushi and the California rolls. The only thing holding Kobe back from having a full five-star rating in my book is the often long wait times for food and the occasionally loud crowd at the restaurant that can ruin the atmosphere slightly. We had a lovely dinner at Kobe! The service was spectacular. We asked for several small orders and the staff were always quick, courteous and very helpful. The checked to make sure we were enjoying the dishes, and were quick to clear dishes as we finished them. The atmosphere was elegant. Patio seating over a lovely creek with bamboo and other greenery. Candles and soft lighting made an outdoor busy space feel intimate and inviting. They had indoor seating as well, but the outdoor seating was much more appealing for us. We really enjoyed our drinks. I understand they have very good alcohol options, and was excited that they had a good selection of nonalcoholic drinks as well. We had the blueberry lemonade, lavender lemonade and homemade ginger ale. They were all tasty, and the ginger ale stood out. We are a ginger ale loving family and this was one of the best we've had! The food was excellent! We had their pepper appetizers which was shishito peppers a mix of tempura and, I think pan cooked, and they were crunchy with just the right balance of heat. We shared 5 of their rolls, and the peach ceviche. The fish was excellent and the combinations in the rolls were well selected. I especially liked the salmon roll, and the eel on another roll really brought the roll together. Their peach ceviche made me want to learn how to make ceviche because it was so good! Stay for desert their 3 flavors of crème brûlée were devine. KOBE could be under new management? Their menu has somewhat changed. The Zen Roll and the Mushroom Salad are no-more. Instead they offer a $16 salad, and you can add mushrooms for an additional $5. The salad is much smaller now. They also eliminated the vegetarian Zen Roll, which is a total bummer. Don't be deceived and get the other mushroom roll, it's terrible. There are two small beef sliders now instead of three. Sadly, Shrink-flation has struck KOBE. I will not return. read more

Kobe is the only sushi place that i really like around here (especially since little tokyo shut down). I'm not sure why people say it's expensive when it's the cheapest option for the best quality. $15/per roll is pretty standard and other places (that are lower quality) are pushing $20+/ per roll. The food is consistent and the portions for salad and tempura are large so it's nice to share. The drinks are ok and the staff is hit or miss but overall kind. I think the ambience is inviting and it feels upscale without breaking the bank. It's always worth it for me and it's a great spot for a night out that feels special. read more

One of my favorite restaurants to visit when I'm in Oregon. The sliders , rolls, and everything else are amazing. The server was super nice and surprised my wife with a candle on her dessert for her birthday. Love their Japanese whisky choices and their style of old fashioned! Everything from the oyster shooters with champagne to start, to the grilled shishito peppers with yellowfin carpaccio with an Old Fashioned and Mezcal Margarita, then to the Sunshine and Red Dragon rolls KICK F-ING A$$!!! The thin sliced lemon on the Sunshine roll was amazing. For dessert the Matcha Creme Brûlée did not disappoint at all!!!! We caught ourselves saying the carpaccio was cut into thick slices almost like chunk slices of meat at the end as we capped off the night at the table.
