I had thee best experience i've ever had tonight in this amazing restaurant. The service was top notch, and the food was incredible! Not only was everything hot with intense flavor, but when i needed my soup extra spicy there was absolutely no fuss whatsoever. Absolutely Terrible Experience This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. We waited over an hour for our food, and unbelievably, the waitress didn't even bring us straw or water. Not once. The service was completely unacceptable--no urgency, no communication, and no basic attention to customers. Waiting over an hour is bad enough, but being ignored the entire time made it even worse. If you value your time or expect basic customer service, I would strongly recommend going somewhere else. We were driving through and looking for a place to eat. This place popped up and decided to try. As we walked in, no one was there to greet us. We thought it was closed. As we said hello a gentleman peaked out and asked if they were open. He then told us to have a seat. I had the salmon bimbimbop. The food was served in a sizzling bowl. The food was very good and delicious but it was too hot. The place was quiet which I liked because i like to have my meals In peace. Overall, I would recommend this place. I ordered from DoorDash, I'm here for work and this place was sooooo surprisingly good. I was in the mood for something light and refreshing and I ordered the lollipop roll and the beef bibimbap. Unlike other bibimbap that I have tried this one had tons of veggies like organic green salad, woofers mushroom and savory beans out. It's light crunchy and refreshing. It also comes with miso soup and banchan which I didn't expect. I live in San Francisco where there are tons of Korean restaurant so I feel my standard for Asian food is very high. The flavor is very authentic and comes with different sauces. I would order from this place again in a heartbeat. The meal even sat at the front desk for an hour before I was able to eat it and everything was still perfectly cooked. I am happy that I recovered such amazing food through DoorDash. read more

Writing this as the reviews for this place blow my mind. Came based on the reviews and left in a bad mood because the food was so bad. Interesting ambiance. Dark and moody vibes. A TV was playing to show the streets of Seoul. Seems like there is one server/waiter and one cook (a Korean couple). The service was slow. We waited at the front for a few minutes before we were seated. Food took a while to come out as well. The spicy pork bulgogi was the SALTIEST thing I have ever tasted in my life. It wasn't even spicy in the slightest bit. It was quite frankly the worst spicy pork bulgogi I have ever had. The miso soup also tasted like soap. The seafood dolsot bibimbap had no seafood and no real flavor. Wouldn't say it was terrible, but it wasn't amazing. The seafood tofu soup was not an accurate representation of what tofu soup should taste like. Had no spicy flavor to it. Tasted almost like a sea water soup with nothing impressive about it at all. There was also no banchan served. Near the end the man gave us kimchi and some soybean sprouts, but again disappointing since side dishes are a big part of any Korean restaurant. This is not authentic at all and a very BAD representation of Korean food. Would not recommend! Go somewhere else. Honestly a meal at Subway would have been more satisfting. read more

My experience at Soo Rah was mixed. The food tasted great, but the service left a lot to be desired and the echoing chamber of a venue decorated in an eclectic mix of finds was a bit odd. Honestly, if the people working there had been even a hint warmer I would have been much happier. Read on. I took my daughter to this place for a birthday lunch. It's one of her favorites, and I'd never been. When we arrived on a Sunday at noon, there was one person at the bar, waiting for a to-go order and one large table of guests, apparently waiting for their food. There was no waitstaff visible, and we were not greeted by a host. We waited about five minutes and a man appeared (owner/waiter), asking us "How many?". We were waiting for two other people so we shared that info and were then told to sit anywhere. Seating options were plentiful and we chose a table at the end of the bar, closest to the cash register and entrance for our friends to see us. The man who had seated us brought us four glasses and a container of water for the table along with four menus. We looked at the menus and discussed what we would be ordering. I had looked online and thought I'd have a bento box with beef bulgogi, but those were not on the menu and so I planned on ordering the single entree'. Based on the photo, and fairly hefty prices I assumed it was family-style. I asked the man who had seated us if there was a smaller portion of that dish and he seemed to balk at the question saying "You can share it." He then turned and walked away. Our friends arrived and the man returned, asking if we were ready to order. They had just arrived and had not looked at the menu - although they love the food and had been there many times, they like to order different items each time. They asked for a few minutes and he left. When it came time to order the man started with our friends who ordered pork belly, spicy pork bulgogi, and some dumplings. He then asked my daughter, who ordered kimchi soup, and then turned to walk away. He ignored me completely, and started walking away - not looking at me at all. It was weird. I called to him and said "I'd like the beef bulgogi". He then turned and wrote something down on his pad, and walked away, never looking at me. I'm not a fussy customer. I'm not picky or rude. I didn't get mad or become demanding. This was just odd and everyone at the table thought so too. Our first delivery of food arrived about 20 minutes after ordering. Portions were smaller than expected for the relatively hefty prices per dish. Beverage prices were also more expensive than expected, but they did have a wide selection with some unusual offerings. Everything was delicious and hot upon arrival. Our second arrival of food (for two people at the table) arrived about 5 minutes after the first delivery. The large table that had been in Soo Rah when we arrived left about that time and we were the only table with customers for about 45 minutes. No one came back to the table to check on how things were or to ask if we needed anything, but the man who had taken our orders stood about 8' away and stared at us multiple times and stared at us, so maybe that was the check-in? Two different couples arrived about the time we were finishing up our meals. They sat in two booths. Our bill arrived and I paid it with cash, putting in a tip. The man took the bill and went to the cash register, not asking if there was a tip included. We sat and talked for a bit after our meal - it wasn't crowded and we weren't loud - but I got the vibe we were expected not to linger after eating. I didn't like how dark the interior of this place was without any addition of light for warmth. The wood floors are beautiful, but between those and the brick, the contemporary urban loft aesthetic they were going for is lost because it's too dark to see it. I was born in Medford and raised by parents who frequently took me downtown. This place was formerly part of a department store that I went to as a kid. I was excited to be back and see this place. I loved the idea of the revitalization of the space being a Korean restaurant - adding fresh diversity to the town. In conclusion, I was very disappointed by the service and the lack of courtesy by the owner/waiter that I received. I've never had someone not look at me or take my order, despite having spoken with me only moments before. I would agree with Dw W.'s review which mentions "arrogant and rude" describing who I assume to be the same person I dealt with. Sort of reminded me of a Seinfeld episode with the Soup N**i. The food tasted good. It was a little greasy, but I kind of expected that, so no surprise. Portions were small and at higher-than-average pricing with no lunch menu option. I'm not sure if my dish didn't come with kimchi or not, but everyone else was given some and I didn't receive any as a compliment to my meal. Just one more thing I guess. Been wanting to go try this place out, I am disappointed. The ambience is nice, a little dark for my taste. I don't like using a flashlight to see the menu..... service is Horrendous!!! Painstakingly slow.... Even when there are minimum to no customers. Having to continuously ask for more napkins, more water is not OK. They brought one tiny soy sauce dipping dish for 4 people!!! What a hidden gem! Such a unique ambiance with delicious Korean food. There isn't much signage so we didn't know this restaurant was downtown until recently. We enjoyed the bulgogi, short ribs, pork bibimbop, and a sushi roll. Amazing service by all staff. We will definitely be back. read more

We came in as the last customers on a seemingly quiet Sat night, which was great for us as we had 3 young kids in tow. The restaurant was clean, spacious but cozy, and nicely decorated. We were warmly welcomed upon arrival, and the nice gentleman who served us, as well as the owner who came by to greet us, were very accommodating and kind. Service was simply wonderful, and we couldn't be more appreciative esp given our 2yo twins were quite chatty and a bit disruptive. For the food, the kids' menu was perfect for our kids (and at such a good price!) They ate all their rice and nuggets. I had a lovely Korean ginger tea that really hit the spot on a chilly night. Highly recommend. As for our meal, I enjoyed the dolsot bibimbap, though I did wished their gochujang was spicier (understandably, they were catering to a more local palate). My husband enjoyed his curry rice, which was comforting and reminded him of home cooking. Having grown up in Annandale VA, I do appreciate good, authentic Korean food. While this was not to the spicy palate I was craving, it was still good cooking, and given the amazing service and nice ambiance, I would definitely return next time we pass through Medford. read more

I've been here twice now. The first time, my husband and I really enjoyed our food. Today I was solo, and...the yakiudon dish was just so wonderful. It came out sizzling, noodles perfect, loads of assorted veggies tender crisp, and even some more exotic type mushrooms in the mix. It was obviously crafted with care. They bring you assorted side dishes and miso soup, all of which have such different textures and flavors...just so good. This place makes me want to visit South Korea! My food was fine, nothing to write home about. The service was polite enough, what there was of it (seated, food out down, check brought). But nothing arrived for more than 50 minutes after I ordered, and then it was kimchi and soup. My meal came out ~10 minutes later. Strongly suggest that if a meal is going to take so long, you bring the cold kimchi or something else sooner rather than letting a person sit there with nothing and no contact for almost an hour. I was extremely hungry and wished I had just gone to a grocery store for a pre-made sandwich or something. I understand that while there were only a few full tables in the restaurant they had ordered ahead of me and I'm sure the kitchen staff is small, maybe one person. But you can put kimchi in a dish and bring it out. Or tell the customer when they order that it will be a long time so they can choose to order an appetizer if they're starving. At first, I thought the portions were slightly on the small side, but after seeing the check, it's totally reasonable - the prices are low here for what you get. Good value in that sense. I got the kimchi dolsot bibimbap, and we were also served the classic banchan (braised potatoes, kimchi, cucumber, and seaweed) along with miso soup. The dolsot bibimbap came out sizzling which was great, and had plenty of all different sorts of veggies! There was fresh spring mix salad mixed in which I've never had in bibimbap before, but it wasn't bad by any means. The crispy rice on the bottom of the bowl is my favorite part of the dish. It has been many years since I've had Korean food, so I was excited to try this restaurant. I ordered the Spicy Pork Bulgogi, which came with rice, miso soup and some small pickled/fermented sides. I asked for less spice, if possible, and they were able to do so. I loved everything! The pork was delicious, with the sauce carmelizing the bottom pieces of pork making them extra tasty. The sides were yummy and a nice cleanser between bites and the rice was the perfect amount for me. They provide less rice than most restaurants but I prefer that. They did ask if I would like more rice which makes me wonder if they get that request a lot. I look forward to trying more dishes. read more

I was in the mood for soondubu, a tofu stew that usually cost about $11 in Maryland and Virginia, but here a beef one was $18. That's pretty overpriced, but I went with the dumpling soondubu. There was plenty of the dumplings, but lacking of tofu for a tofu dish. It was mostly sliced veggies and was alright. They didn't have white rice when I was there. Instead, they served a 28-grain mixed rice, which I did not like. The restaurant is pretty big and has nice decor. It wasnt busy at all on a Sunday afternoon. read more
