Double Double Roll, sunset roll, Alaskan roll, edamame, cheese wontons
    Monica H.

The food here was amazing! I came with my friend and we were seated and brought waters right away. They brought out appetizers, rolls and entrees out as they were ready, which I really like (I am a hungry gal all the time). Everyone from the waitresses to the sushi chefs were incredibly friendly (service is super important to me). We got an Alaskan roll, double double roll, and a sunset roll and they were all so pretty and delicious. We got edamame and cheese wontons for appetizers that were both really good and my friend got soup which I didn't ask about, but she devoured it so I'm assuming 10/10. (Sorry the picture is chaotic. I wasn't planning on making a review, but I was having a really nice experience and became inspired late in the game).

    Salmon roll bones

Food is good enough taste but my seafood udon had a nasty looking shrimp in and then my salmon roll had bones in it! Normally I would never waste the energy to write a review even if it was bad but ... Fake wasabi, and plastic containers also suck. Not goin back

    Beef Teriyaki Bento Box

Driving through Ashland and stumbled on this . Pleasant servers . Ample parking. We ordered the lunch bento boxes and it was more then enough food . The chicken teriyaki was good but the beef was more like a Chinese stir fry. It was not teriyaki and the bill actually said we ordered bulgogi beef !!!. Enjoyed the two gyoso. Rice was a little dry . Would still recommend this place .

I walked in and a staff member looked at me and continued with whatever he was doing in the kitchen area which is right to the right of where you walk in. I moved closer to the cash register and this staff member and I said "Table for 1 please". Then, he grabbed a menu and seated me. I would say the restaurant was 25% occupied. There seemed to be three staff members: One cooking, the guy who seated me, and then a lady taking orders and checking on people. I sat there and sat there watching others get seated, their orders taken, and then others receiving their food. Finally I walked up to the lady who was standing near the cash register and I said, "I've never been here so I don't know how this works so do I come up here and put in my order?". She said "Oh are you ready?". I put my order in and sat back down at my table. Shortly afterwards, my drunken noodles order came out and it was delicious. This review got two stars because the food was good. The service was terrible. I think maybe the lady checked on me once during my meal? I don't know why I got this treatment and maybe it was because I was a solo traveler but I have never been treated like this before even though I have solo traveled for years. I usually always leave a good tip too as a solo traveler but to be completely ignored was not good service. I even had to go up to the cash register to ask for my check when I saw the check being delivered to other tables. Great food but if you want the whole pleasant dining experience, skip Sawaddee and find a different Thai restaurant.

My co-workers and I were in town for work and were thoroughly impress at how fresh their sushi tasted. For starters, we had their lobster tempura, yellowtail carpaccio, Sunshine roll. and edamame. I probably would have preferred their regular tempura, but their yellowtail carpaccio was delicious. Another standout was their sunshine roll. For main entree, we each ordered a sashimi/nigiri set. Their selection of nigiri fishes were standard but good. As for dessert, we had shared their creme brulee which was perfect to end our meal.

In the rolls, the chef had an ability to pair ingredients that emphasized texture, all the while working in excellent flavors. The darru and surf and turf rolls were a highlight. The sea urchin roll was out-of-this-world, like a bite of delicious ocean. Starting with the wagyu sliders was a great contrast to the cold sushi dishes. Fatty beef, seared, with salty seasoning and pickles. Excellent! The service was struggling the night we went. They held us up at the bar 20 minutes past our reservation time. They only seated us because we gave up on waiting for an outdoor table. It then took 20 minutes to meet the server and order, and another 45 minutes to start eating. Ultimately the food exceeded the flaccid service. I will be back, but not on a night when I'm in a hurry.

My benchmark to drop a 2 star review is if you're at risk for ordering a dud meal. With a menu as…read morethick as a Tolstoy novel, the restaurant struggled with perfecting each dish, especially in a dinner rush situation. Let's start with the positives. The sushi side of the kitchen was their best feature. The sushi chef had flair and the rolls came out plated well with excellent presentation. We ordered the dragon flame roll and the volcano roll. The dragon roll was the better choice, with the spicy mayo and jalapeño accents lifting the experience. However, the sushi rice wasn't seasoned with enough rice vinegar, and that showed in the volcano roll where the flavor of plain rice intersected with the under-seasoned cooked fish. A lot of plain, mushy texture. The hot items from the kitchen were the bigger problem. They had several Korean items listed, which are some of my favorites. I was expecting the spicy pork entree to deliver that kick of flavor you normally expect, but it was more of a salty/soy experience intermixed with softened stir-fry vegetables. It tasted like a dish you would throw together at home on a weeknight. By far the lowest point of the meal was the chicken ramen. It was so flavorless and unseasoned that you could taste the local tap water in the broth. My wife commented that she would have preferred instant noodles. The service was very slow. One server doing his best to cover the entire restaurant at dinner rush. We also received an awkward apology from the waiter because he was instructed by his manager to skip our table and take care of a few others who had arrived after us. It initially felt alarming and discriminatory, but it ended up being the least of our issues. Overall, I think this restaurant's menu is its own worst enemy. They need to simplify and perfect a smaller number of dishes and get the flavors where they need to be. If you need to dine here, I would recommend sticking with the most popular sushi items. That could end up being a 3 or 4 star experience.

He had never been. It quickly turned into his favorite also. One and half years later he proposed there. Our grandson now claims it as his favorite restaurant also. Even though we live in Medford and my son has passed away, I go over (hubby gets to join us sometimes also) and take my teenage grandson out to Matsukaze. The food is always great no matter what you order. I have to say the combination dinner of Beef Teriyaki and Tempura is my favorite. For us Matsukazu is worth the drive to Grants Pass and no other restaurant in the Rogue Valley beats it. Their teriyaki sauce is the best. We buy a few bottles of it whenever we eat there. If we run out we grab some at Cartwrights. We do blind test tastes with multiple teriyaki sauces. Hands down Matsukaze teriyaki is the best. It isn't as salty, it is sweeter.
