Sawadee is my favorite Ashland restaurant which makes our experience tonight even more distressing. As always the service and ambience was wonderful but ..... It was J's birthday dinner and she ordered Pad Thai adding vegetables. As I enthusiastically enjoyed my favorite sushi, she struggled to find a bite of Pad Thai that wasn't overwhelmed with onions (three kinds, she said). The vegetables she ordered in place of chicken or tofu were practically non existent. Hoping she was exaggerating, I took a couple bites. She was not!! I was in the mood for Thai food and saw all the great reviews so I decided to eat at Sawaddee. This was a Monday night so it wasn't busy at all. I walked in and a staff member looked at me and continued with whatever he was doing in the kitchen area which is right to the right of where you walk in. I moved closer to the cash register and this staff member and I said "Table for 1 please". Then, he grabbed a menu and seated me. I would say the restaurant was 25% occupied. There seemed to be three staff members: One cooking, the guy who seated me, and then a lady taking orders and checking on people. I sat there and sat there watching others get seated, their orders taken, and then others receiving their food. Finally I walked up to the lady who was standing near the cash register and I said, "I've never been here so I don't know how this works so do I come up here and put in my order?". She said "Oh are you ready?". I put my order in and sat back down at my table. Shortly afterwards, my drunken noodles order came out and it was delicious. This review got two stars because the food was good. The service was terrible. I think maybe the lady checked on me once during my meal? I don't know why I got this treatment and maybe it was because I was a solo traveler but I have never been treated like this before even though I have solo traveled for years. I usually always leave a good tip too as a solo traveler but to be completely ignored was not good service. I even had to go up to the cash register to ask for my check when I saw the check being delivered to other tables. Great food but if you want the whole pleasant dining experience, skip Sawaddee and find a different Thai restaurant. read more

I keep forgetting to ask her name but one of the lady servers here always seems to be the one taking my groups order, and she is incredible! Funny, nice, and feels like an actual person talking to you in a way that feels they actually care how their food tastes! They absolutely deliver. Everything I have tried here I love. I am especially a fan of the mongolian beef, their miso soup, and the thai iced teas! The environment is a touch unorthodox as far as restaurants in america are by standard, but I really enjoy the open kitchen and large lobby space they have for events. This is my go to place for Thai takeaway in Ashland! Their service is fast, friendly and very easy to put in an order. My favorite menu item is their drunken noodles and any of their curry. A true family affair with amazing food. We're traveling up from So Cal; final destination, Corvallis. I saved a few places in our stops along the way and am so glad I bookmarked Sawaddee. The place has a relaxed vibe and you can tell that the locals know it's the place for good Thai food as the owners greet everyone like they're family. We had the crab rangons and a couple of drinks (love those Willamette pinots). The yum yum sauce is just that. For dinner, we dove into the yellow curry with tofu and drunken noodles with chicken. The spice of the noodles was spot on and the curry brought the heat down beautifully. The initial greeting was rude. Guest was 2 minutes early 4:28 pm and it was not appreciated by the staff. I love Thai food and have been to many Thai Restaurants all over the US. I had high hopes after reading reviews. Food was okay. Very sweet. I ordered the Thai basil, spicy. My guest ordered the curry without eggplant. I was charged an additional $1 for my entree because I said spicy. It wasn't. The guest was charged an additional $3 to eliminate the eggplant. I will not be going back. What a find. Traveling through Ashland with a bad cold and needed some good soup to fix me up. The Tom Yum here is amazing. Not too spicy and sour with lots of ginger. Perfect. Yellow chicken curry was also excellent. The owner was our Server and was super friendly. Very nice little restaurant. Can't wait to go again on the way home. I have been waiting for this place to open and now that it is I am stoked. I've been following this restaurateur for years and am so happy to see he and his wife opening their own establishment. The restaurant is clean and organized with a friendly staff. In addition to their Thai offerings, they also have a small sushi case. I tried the Drunken Noodles, Yellow Curry, Salt & Pepper Calamari and the J-Pops. Everything came out hot and tasty. My favorite on this day was the calamari. Ever since my daughter brought me here for lunch, I have been hooked! Most Pad Thai I have had in the valley has a sweetness to it. This does not. It's authentic Thai in every way. The owners are hands on and it is truly a family affair. Warm and welcoming. I have been back with new people numerous times now and they all loved. I think this was because they were preparing door dash collections. Staff were friendly. The food was average at best but the rice was really over cooked and soggy...had to leave it. We visited Ashland as our yearly vacation when we, on a whim, decided to visit Sawaddee for lunch. We ordered: potstickers, J-pop, salmon with mango salsa, thai basil chicken, and tom kha gai. We loved everything! The chicken was tender and succulent... my personal favorite was the amount of mushrooms they put and the giant slices of fragrant galangal. Another thing that I love was their J-pop. It is fried stuffed jalapeño peppers that, if not made correctly, could come out greasy and mushy. This one was amazing! It had the crunch of jalapeño still and the slight heat! Even my daughter, who screams bloody murder at any hint of "spicy" enjoys the filling!l while I happily munched on the peppers! The salmon was also delicious, nice char on the outside and the tangy/spicy mango salsa on top of it was a nice welcome addition. My one year old daughter finished an entire dish of potstickers all by herself. Saved only the fried skins because, well, she has only 4 teeth! But she loved it, even nibbled on some salmon and mango salsa! (That's how tender the salmon was) Portions were generous, we have leftovers enough for dinner for two after everything! Plus we got a nice banana treat at the end that was so yummy! If you're going through Ashland and are looking for a Thai-fusion place, definitely give this place a try! read more

The food is pretty good! I wouldn't say it's awesome, but it's good. The service is friendly & they give you a cold pitcher of water with a couple small slices of cucumber in the water, which is nice. My friend's order came out about 5-10 mins before mine, which was weird. She was halfway to finishing her meal before I got to start mine, so that was kind of a bummer. Other than that, they let us hang out well past closing to catch up & chat which was really cool. To be fair, there were a couple other tables doing the same thing. It was their close time between lunch & dinner. Overall, it's not somewhere I am itching to eat at again, but I would definitely go back in the future & probably try another dish. read more
